MS6524G Cannot start PCI Firewire card

A customer of mine has the following problem:
He has a 2yr old system, purchased from Tiny Computers with the above MB. He has now tried 3 different OHCI-compatible Firewire PCI cards using 3 different chipsets and gets the same problem each time.
On boot, the card appears to be recognised & installed correctly by Win XP but is unable to be used. Checking device manager shows code 10 error, device cannot be started. Have tried Firewire card in all 3 pci slots with same result in each case. Used MSI liveupdate to flash BIOS to latest, with no change in symptoms. Win XP completely up to date.
Is there a fundamental incompatibility between this MB & PCI-based firewire?

Cannot see PCI firewire card in MAX

Hi
I have a firewire camera connected to my computer via a PCI card. Using the software that came with the camera, I am able to capture images easily so there is clearly no hardware problem. However, I cannot seem to access the camera using MAX. If I go to the configuration tree and select My System > Devices and interfaces, all I see is PXI system (Unidentified) and Serial and Parallel. ie. I do not see NI-IMAXdx. If I select Software, I see all of the following on the list (and more) NI Vision, NI-IMAQ, NI-IMAQ for 1394, NI-IMAQdx.

FireWirer 400 Ports not working, Fix and/or Add PCI FireWire card

Here are some details about my G5:

I have two FireWire 400 ports that aren't working. I normally use the FireWire 800 port, which works fine.
I've tried:
- Resetting the NVRAM
- Resetting the PRAM
- Resetting the SMU
I haven't been able to run Apple Hardware Test, it is not on my install disc and I must have lost the separate Apple Hardware Test CD... annoying!
1) First Question - Can I do any more to fix the FireWire ports?
I also have a FireWire PCI card, which looks like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815150103 though I can't be for certain that is that one (PCI card purchased by my business partner 4 years ago and was originally in a PC). It's got 3-ports (2x 800 and 1x 400).
2) Second Question - am I ok to install this FireWire PCI card into the G5?
(how do I identify for sure what make of PCI card it is?)
If so, which slot and how should I go about doing it?

What to do if your computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device...
If the issue persists, try these steps:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Disconnect all devices and all other cables, except the keyboard and mouse cable(s).
3. Disconnect the computer from the power outlet and wait for 3 to 5 minutes.
4. Plug the computer back in and turn it on.
5. Reconnect the device(s) (one at a time if there is more than one) and test. Test with each port if you have more than one.

Not sure about yours, but it does say...
PCI 2.2 compliant and works in 32-/64-bit PCI slot
Works in 3.3v or 5V PCI slot
The one that doesn't work in yours above is also PCI 2.2 compliant.

FIREWIRE CARD

I have just purchased and installed in my G4 a Belkin PC/MAC 3 port PCI Firewire card
but cannot get my Lacie drives to mount.

1) Do they mount using the native FW ports?
2) Any historical problems with the drives?
3) Have you tried all combinations of testing them now? (Have them plugged in when machine starts, plug them in when machine is already running, and then on/off states for the drives for both of these)?

so now i wanna know if its smart to plug my drives in there so as my isight or just stay with daisy chain or buy firewire hub ?

The Firewire PCI card i got has like a power connection port on it
I was wondering if i needed to connect it to anything or it gets enough power from the motherboard
I mean they didn't supply the cable to connect it to the power supply
and the G5 doesn't have any extra cable lying inside there to connect to it
and so far all hard drives including the isight is running smooth

Booting a B&W via PCI Firewire?

I know the B&W won't boot from the on board Firewire, but can it boot from a PCI Firewire card? I know the Beige can't but can the B&W?

The end result I'm seeking is to dual boot OS X and Ubuntu 7.04. OS X will not install on the on board HDD. I was hoping to test the ability to boot OS X from a Firewire drive. If I could boot OS X from something other than the on board HDD, than it would isolate the ATA bus as being at fault. However, if I have to boot OS X from the on board HDD before I can boot from the Firewire drive, and I can't boot OS X from the on board HDD, then I'm back to square-one.
300 MHz B&W Rev. 1, 6.1 GB HDD, 128-512 MB RAM, good PRAM battery.
Steps:
Installed OS 9.1 on Partition 1 (3 GB) of onboard HDD. Booted
Installed Ubuntu 7.04 on partition 2 (3 GB) of onboard HDD. Booted
Lost OS 9 partition. Separate issue.
Reformatted Drive.
Installed 10.2, disk 1, on Partition 1 (3 GB) HDD. Failed to boot.
Flashed PRAM. failed to boot.
Reset NVRAM. failed to boot.
Installed OS 9.1 on Partition 1
Ran firmware update 1.2. Says Firmware is up to date. failed to boot to OS X.
Replaced RAM with known good RAM. failed to boot to OS X.
Booted to OS9
Connected Firewire drive with Tiger installed to on board FW. Didn't show up.
Installed PCI Firewire card. Connected FW drive. Showed up, but still can't boot to OS X.
Booted to OS 9. Downloaded and installed XPostFacto. Says No OS X on Partition 1. but shows Tiger on the Firewire Drive. Chose Partition 1 as helper (The OS X files are there) and Tiger as the boot. Failed to boot.
Using XPostFacto, chose 10.2 on CD-ROM. Failed to boot. Not sure why. Will try another PRAM flash.
Gave up for the night.

Best Firewire card for PC?

Hi Folks. What would all of you suggest as the best PCI Firewire card out there for a PC? Mine only has one port working and I need at the very least 2. So, I will be ordering one pretty soon.

I've bought many cards from this source (all sorts of configurations), and they have been a pleasure to deal with. Their prices seem fair, but I usually shop for product specs. and good service, before price.
They offer some configurations, that I do not see from most card mfgrs. and several of these have fit my particular needs perfectly. Ease of ordering in nice, shipping always quick, but I've never had any problems, so I do not know about returns - would guess that they are good, but just have never had to return anything.
I also recommend the FW-800 connections, as does Chuck. If one's BIOS can work with IEEE-1394b, and so can one's peripherals, it is a really fast connection.
One comment on multiple devices on one FW connection: I have had great luck piggybacking (both FW-800 & 400) for HDDs. Though I have never experienced a problem, I do not do this for any camera, A->D converter, or even external DVD burners. OK, I did piggyback an external burner, with no problems once, or twice, but do not do this on a regular basis.
Luckily my workstation has 4 separate FW busses on the MoBo and I use one of the FW-800 cards (from above source) for those 1394b connections. Never a complaint on any from a wide array of peripherals.

Thanks for confirming that. I'm disappointed - I have a video camera with a DV interface that I would not be able to use with a Touchsmart.
Seems like most of the current crop of All-In-One systems are coming without firewire these days. Is that interface dropping off the scene?

Xw6600 & FireWire card

I need to add a Firewire card to a XW6600. The XW6600 has a Firewire connector on the front, and from this connector is a wire that goes in the direction of the motherboard. That wire has a connector on the end, the connector has two rows of pins - 7 on one row, 5 on the other. I believe that 12-pin connector is supposed to plug into a Firewire card. However, I cannot find a firewire card that has a 12-pin connector on it.
Anyone know what to do, have a solution for this? I want a firewire port on the front of the XW6600, not just in the back of it.

I need to add a firewire card to my
HP Pavilion Series Desktop, Model No. P-7-1240
Firewire, also known as IEEE 1394 or iLink
the Firewire card needs to have at least one 6 pin port, or possibly a 4 pin & a 6 pin port, or other ports etc.
The most important thing is to get a good reliable card that will work properly with my machine, & give me the ability to connect at least one 6 pin cable into it.
The machine at this time is factory correct & no other modifications have been done to it.

Firewire Card Recommendation for Duende and/or Ensemble

I am in the process of moving from a PPC to a Quad core 3.0 machine. Can anyone recommend a PCIE firewire card for running the Duende or the Apogee card?
I'm looking for something with 800 and 400 ports.
I've loaded this machine up with 16gb ram and 4 drives, is there anything I need to know as far as tweaks, any specific pcie slot to install the fw card as well as a UAD2 card?

I don't know about Ensemble or Duende but my Motu works on a LeCie D2 connected to the FW800 port of my G5 without problems...
seems to be more faster... but in any case just an adapter to be sure about stay close to FW800 commectors.

Z68A-GD55(B3) Having problems installing firewire card with TI TSB43AB23 chipset

Hi,
I have a firewire audio interface and two PCI firewire cards from different manufacturers that both have the TI TSB43AB23 chipset which is generally considered one of the best to have.
I originally had issues with one of these firewire cards in that the windows drivers wouldn't load properly so I bought a new PCI firewire card.
The new card was slightly better but this is what happens:
if i boot the system 10 times then:
- one of those times the card isn't detected at all, even if it was detected fine and drivers loaded without error on the previous boot
- two of those times the driver reports errors with the card and i have to uninstall then reinstall the driver
- 7 of those times the card is detected and there are no problems with the driver but the firewire device connected to the card isn't detected on the system which means the PCI firewire card isn't working properly
Then, one day it worked. And it worked for a week and it worked on the three different bootable partitions on my PC (all running win7 pro).
Then, it stopped working, on all 3 operating systems all at once, and i'm now back to the scenario i described earlier.
I know the firewire device works 100% because i've tested it on another MSI MB that has inbuilt firewire. I'm not 100% sure about the firewire card but it is new and this has happened with two different firewire cards.
Live update says everything is up to date.

It could well be an incompatibility with the card.

Portege A600-175 - Card reader device cannot start

I got a Portege A600-175 running windows XP SP3 with a problem in the card reader device. Inserting a SD it makes the sound that usually USB devices make when inserted ( and also when it is removed) bur it doesnt appear on my computer. Getting to device manager It appears as a disk with an exclamation point over it and in properties I see the error This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Ive already removed the device and let windows look for it and install it again but the problem continues.

As I'm in Potugal some terms appearing blow are in Portuguese. So I've download the driver (carc-20081103175358 - Card Reader Ricoh) uninstall "Ricoh- Controladores anfitres digitais seguros", run the setup in the downloaded driver folder.
Restart the machine (prompt by the setup) as the restart takes place I got the balloon "new pci device found". After the complete install the problem continues
By the way in the properties tab of "Ricoh- Controladores anfitres digitais seguros" I still got under detailes Publisher(fornecedor) Microsoft corporation Version 6.0.4069.5512 xpsp0850413-2111

Satellite Pro A10: New Atheros/Askey WLan card but 'This device cannot start' code 10

I have a Satellite Pro A10 and have purchased an internal mini pci wireless adapter. The following information is displayed on my card:
Askey WLL3070-D4(MOW)
Atheros AR5BRB-43
I installed the card, hooked up the ariel's and turned the laptop on...the switch at the front now lights up and windows xp finds the new ethernet adaptor. My problem is this...
No matter what driver i install (and ive tried every Askey/Atheros etc driver from the first 20+ pages of yahoo/google) the card installs fine but then in device manager has a yellow ! next to it and says This device cannot start (code 10)
I'm really stumped. I have some more ram coming in a few days at which point i shall be installng Vista which im hoping sorts my problems out but does anyone have any ideas?
I've yet to find a driver which specifically refers to the AR5BRB or the model number WLL3070-D4.
Does anyone have a location for a driver etc?
