MSA HIgh Time data transfer

Hi All,
Here are the configuration
- 2 servers DL 580 G3 fully firmware updated + PSP installtion + new RHEL 4 x64 installed
- 1 MSA 500 G2 with 2x36.4 GB, 4x146GB & 4x300GB also firmware updated (all Raid 1+0)
Note that the MSA contained before 2x36.4 & 2x146, after expension we added the new disk
the problem is:
when i do a copy of a test file amount 6.1GB from disks on the MSA to another disk on the MSA with different mount point, i need about 8 min, which is a high time
I tested the same transfer on the a same enviroment identical to this one, the time i get is about 6 min and note that this enviroment is in production so he is loaded not the one he's facing the problem he's still under test
So if someone have any idea about thgis problem, and may know any solution please i'm waiting your answer, i need please fully detailed answer to know what i should do exactly because it's to urgent to solve this problem
I appreciate your quick answers. Thank you

Sorry I don't know how fast the transfers are but it would be limited to the person with the slowest bandwidth and the internet traffic with respect to where you are both located at the time you do the transfer. What you could do is send a smallish file (maybe a couple of Meg) and record the time taken and then assess the time it would take for the larger file. If you are both in the same area then do the transfer late at night (Off Peak) as I would have expected you will be less affected by nearby internet traffic.

  • Handling sequences in real time data transfer.

    Hi,
We are merging two databases (real time data transfer).
One is oracle 8i and other is 9i.
Both databases are having some tables with same structure.
We want to transfer data from table in one database to table in other database.
We are implementing this functionality by using Adevanced Queueing.
Both side tables are using different sequences for generating primary key values and currently contains large volume of data.
The problem in inserting is, when we will be transferring any record from one table to other, the primary key value (sequence value) generated in both tables will be different.
So, if any particular record is updated in one table, How can we update the same record in other table ?
(As the primary key value would be different).
    Thanks,
    Shailesh

There must be some common data in the two tables, that identifies the record. That is, ignorng the sequence generated PK, how would you tell that two records referred to the same thing? You need to ignore the PK values, since they are meaningless surrogate keys, and use the natural key in the data to match the two talbes.

  • Data transfer from planning to ASO.

    Hi,
    Like that:
Data load in Planning, and data retrieve in ASO. And we want a real time data transfer from Planning to ASO.
Transparent partition from BSO to ASO is a choice, but the performance is an issue.
If we user replicated partition, data cannot be transferred to ASO instantly, since there is a step to replicate data to ASO.
And for Map Reporting Application in Planning, we got the mapping issue, since there are some dimension members totally different between Planning and ASO.
So, can anyone help to show other ways to do that?
    Thank you.

iTunes does transfer files like pictures, music, video, and I believe under the apps section it should transfer specific app files too.
otherwise I don't know. I tried to get my ipad to link to my computer with bluetooth (it saiys it is linked now) but when I try to transfer a file or browse the device it won't work.... I dunno!

  • Faster ethernet data transfer time than 2ms

    Dear all,
I'm using labview 7.1 based on a standard laptop communicating with a LabVIEW real time maching running the standard real time operating system. The two machines are connected through a dedication ethernet switch  (rated to 1Gbs), and both have ethernet cards (rated at 100Mbs or greater).
The aim of my project is to have a fast distributed control scheme going. This basically means that small amounts of sensor data have to be transferred very quickly between the two machines. The aim is to then scale this to have more machines on the network.
I use a UDP data transfer method, using the standard labview UDP read and UDP write vis.
I would like to acheive a major frame rate of around 500Hz. The problem I have restricting me with this is the speed of the ethernet connection. It would appear that the vi wrtes to buffer instantaneously, but it is taking as much as 2-3ms for the data package to be sent and received by the other machine. This is a ridiculously long amount of time. I'm sending approximately 100bytes, so the time on the network should be 0.01ms. This would suggest the time delay is in the reading or writing of the data from the Ethernet card over the PCI bus to the program.
Does anyone know why its taking so long? Do the UDP read vis only check the ethernet hardware every ms? I've taken great care to ensure that this is not a synchronisation or timing problem and I am certain it is not that.
I could really do with making this data transfer quicker as it is clearly the slowest part of the control loop. If anyone has come across this before and found a solution I would be grateful to know about it. I'm really hoping that I won't have to write something low-level in C or anything like that and try and integrate it with the code I have.
    Many thanks,
    Pete

Finally found some hard numbers for data transfer rates. From this website. http://www.intellicom.se/ModbusTCP_overview.shtml
Performance from a MODBUS TCP/IP system
The performance basically depends on the network and the hardware. If you are running MODBUS® TCP/IP over the Internet, you won't get better than typical Internet response times. However, for communicating for debug and maintenance purposes, this may be perfectly adequate and save you from having to catch a plane or go to site on a Sunday morning!
For a high-performance Intranet with high-speed Ethernet switches to guarantee performance, the situation is completely different.
In theory MODBUS® TCP/IP carries data at up to 250/(250+70+70) or about 60% efficiency when transferring registers in bulk, and since 10 Base T Ethernet carries about 1.25 Mbytes/sec raw, the theoretical throughput is:
    1.25M / 2 * 60% = 360000 registers per second and the 100 Base T speed is 10 x greater.
This assumes that you are using devices that can service Ethernet as fast as bandwidth is available.
Practical tests carried out by Schneider Automation using a MOMENTUMTM Ethernet PLC with Ethernet I/O demonstrated that up to 4000 I/O bases could be scanned per second, each I/O base having up to 16 12-bit analog I/O or 32 discrete I/O. Four bases could be updated in one millisecond. While this is below the theoretical limit calculated above, it must be remembered that the tested device was running with a lowly 80186 CPU running at 50Mhertz with an effective computing power of 3 MIPS (compared to the 700 MIPS of a 500MHz Pentium). Also, these results are nevertheless faster than the proprietary I/O scan methods used to date.
As low-end CPU's get cheaper, Momentum-type devices will chase the theoretical limit, although they'll never reach it because the limit will be continually pushed further away with 1 Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, etc. This is in contrast to other field-buses which are inherently stuck at one speed

  • Low data transfer between my iMac & Time Capsule

    Hello,
I have just purchased 1GB Time Capsule yesterday to get a back-up of my iMac HDD, and also to use it as an external HDD. I was much interested by the wireless functions.
After the installation, Time Machine started to save a back-up of my HDD (more than 200GB). But after one full night, only 7GB out of 220GB was transfered wireless.
With a so low data transfer, it will take 20 days for the full back-up.
    Is it normal ?
Do I have to make the first back-up though ethernet (wired) ?
I am working on big video files (xx GB), so I really need to increase the speed of data transfer. Is there someting to change in the settings ?
Thank you for your help, it will be highly appreciated...

  • Time Capsule only runs with 1,1Mbit up/down during data transfer, internet speed is ok, TC is used to extend an existing network

    Hello Everyone,
I have a new 2TB Time Capsule running with a MacBook Air. I want to use the TC to access data (Aperture library, iTunes library, other Files) and to backup my MacBook Air via Time Machine. I set it up, integrated the TC in my Network (FritzBox) by choosing "extend existing network" and it works. BUT only with 1.1Mbit/second while writing or reading Data to/from it. Internet speed is very good, like it was before. While the 1.1Mbit/second seem to be ok with Aperture and iTunes (streaming music and movies) it is still painfully slow and I'm not realy happy with that
    I've read that:
The 1.1Mbit problem is pretty common when Time Capsule is integrated and used to extend a network (bridge modus), it also looses all ethernet connectivity then (that woul explain why connecting it by ethernet didn't help during initial setup and data transfer)
Is there a solution besides ditching the Fritzbox and using the TC to build the network? Because basicly I still need the Fritzbox for its DECT features.
Thank you for any help in advance and have a nice day,
    Olli

You have double hop wireless with this setup..
You should bridge the TC.. that is router bridge not wireless bridge, and plug the TC into the Frizyboy by ethernet.
Then you can setup the TC wireless to reinforce the fritzy..
    Same wireless name as SSID.
Same security settings... really should be WPA2 AES or in TC personal.
    Same password..
    Just different wireless channel.
Then you can use 5ghz on the TC if you are up close and personal.

  • Time Machine Data Transfer - From FireWire Drive to Time Capsule - HELP!

Time Machine Data Transfer - From FireWire Drive to Time Capsule - HELP!
I've been searching for weeks for a solution to my problem. Here's the story I've come across since I installed Leopard on Oct. 26, 2007.
I first installed Leopard on my Early 2006 MacBook and set up Time Machine with a 200GB external FireWire drive. Since then, things have been fine, until Time Machine started deleting the oldest backups. I'm a pack-rat and hated this feeling of losing data. So, I now have a few months worth of backups on my 200GB FireWire drive.
The Time Capsule is released, I finally talk myself into getting one and transferring my old data from the 200GB drive to my 1TB TC.
I did some researching through forums about how to move data from one Time Machine drive to another, so I took the concept and wanted to apply it to my Time Capsule. I made a DMG image of my 200GB drive, in order to move the data. I figured if I can make an image, copy it, and open it on the Time Capsule - all will go smoothly - just as some had mentioned they've done with external drives.
Now, I have a 164GB DMG image of my Time Machine, with no hope in sight of gaining it back. I've tried taking the image, using Disk Utility, and restoring my original 200GB external with the imaged Time Machine data, but whenever I do, I come across error messages.
In Disk Utility, I've done the following steps:
    * Disk Image is found on Time Capsule
    * I select the 200GB drive and select 'Restore'
    * I drag and drop the Disk Image to the 'Image' field
    * I drag and drop the 200GB drive into the the 'Restore' field
    * Select 'Erase Destination'
    * Select 'Restore'
    * I get the warning message that I'll erase the drive - I proceed
    * I enter my password
    Error message pops up:
"Restore Failure: Could not find any scan information. The source image needs to be imagescanned/scanned for restore."
I select the image in Disk Utility, then proceed with the following steps:
    * Click on "Image" then down to "Scan Image for Restore"
    * I enter my password
After hours of waiting, I get another error message:
    "Unable to scan. (Broken pipe)."
I'm going to see, after transferring the DMG to the Time Capsule, if I can drag-and-drop the files from the Time Capsule drive onto the 200GB hard drive.
IF anyone has any more suggestions, please let me know!

32 updates on this Mac since December 2007 - Hardware, software, OS...
They keep coming at about 6 or 7 a month. Some of them I don't care about, but several are essential. 10.5.3 has been seeded to the testers a couple of times and will probably show up in the next few weeks. Jaguar wasn't worth a d*mn until 10.2.6, Panther about 10.3.4, Tiger about 10.4.4 - I'd say we are ahead or on schedule Too bad I can't get Apple to fix Spaces. I wish they'd focus on what I want but I guess some take more time than others.

  • Does the data transfer used in the back up in time capsule included in the data allowance from my service provider?

Is the data transfer used in the backup with airport time capsule included in the data allowance with my service provider?

As a trial I did interrupt the back up by turning off the TC, disconnecting the Ethernet cable, turning TC back on. The mac would not connect wirelessly with the TC without the Ethernet connection.
It is not using ISP .. absolutely for sure. Well 99.999%.. absolute tends to be only in maths.
But you did the test wrongly.. I said to disconnect the modem.. during the backup.. not turn off the TC.. obviously once interrupted the TC will not work again until everything is plugged in.. but it will work even bridged for a short time.. just unplug the WAN port from the modem.
The test is moot now.. as I can give you a 99.999% promise it is not using ISP.

  • Data transfer into partition table took more time

Scenario: We have a Staging table (consider it as Table A) which is refreshed Every month. Every month table A is truncated and inserted with 6 million records approx. Once the mandatory update done on Table A we have to move the records to main table (Table
B). Table B is Partitioned by month wise, which contains the complete history of records from the year 2010. Table B has 1 clus. index(month column) and 3 non clustered index. Currently table B has 180,562,235 records. While transfer i didn’t disable the index,
because it was taking more time for enabling the index again.
Question: Data transfer from table A to table B took 2.30 hours approx. Is there any way to reduce transfer time.
Any Suggestion to reduce the time will be helpful.

    Try with SWITCH Partition...

  • Unknown high data transfer on storage account

I have an Azure subscription from MSDN Ultimate (running on the old pricing model). There, I run two VMs (West Europe). Both have their VHDs stored in the same storage account (also West Europe). It is geo-redundand by default (didn't change it).
The first VM has been running fine for some weeks without issues. But since a couple days ago when I started the second one, something weird happend.
On my billing details I do now get rows like this:
    "All Services",...,"Data Transfer In (GB)",...,"Storage",..."mystorageaccountid"
    "All Services",...,"Data Transfer Out (GB)",...,"Storage",..."mystorageaccountid"
Today it said 171 GB in and 31 GB out! Note that it attributes this to the storage account and NOT to the VM. Also VM dashboard shows basically no in/out values (which is correct).
I do not use CDN or any other Azure feature (at least I'm not aware of it). I do not acces the storage account in any other way than by the VM. The VM itself may be writing/reading from its VHD in a quantity that fits the above figures, though. However,
I learned that there is no bandwith charge for GRS.
How can this happen / how can I prevent it?
My first guess is that maybe it's because I put the second VM's VHD on the same storage container. But on the other hand, it's all in the same region...
    Thanks for your help!

    Thanks,
AndrewYup. Use System.currentTimeMillis() to get time in ms just before the transfer and right after the transfer is done. If you want accurate data transfer rate, you will have to do more work than take the difference of the two times...

  • NI8451 SPI data transfer speed and SCLK setup time adjustment

I'm using NI USB-8451 SPI bus to do communication. I can not reach the speed of communication 4MHz (NI USB-8451 module advertises speeds up to 12MHz). Actrually the data transfer speed is much slower than 4/8 Mb/s. The 16k*16bit data cost around 800ms while it should be 128ms if the data transfer achieves 4Mhz speed. In the manual there is a SPI timing clock figure like this:
In the 4Mhz communication case,  the t2 should be 0.25us. I wonder whether the low data transfer speed is due to t1,t3 and t4 since they occupy too much "dead time". If my guess is right, is there any method to reduce the t1,t3 or t4, espetially t3? I know that in the advanced API there is a way to add delay while I did not figure out how to reduce delay(t3).  If my guess is wrong, what is the exactly maximum data transfer speed NI8451 can support? (not the clock rate)
     Thanks for help.

Hi everyone. Im using the SPI communication with 8451 and Im having the same situation., since the serial flash memory I need to program is big enough, t3 (SCLK Setup time) and other "dead time" which I think is the time when buffer on the 8451 needs to be re-filled those are killing my expectation on the final results. I can't see a way to decrease t3 (~10uSec) and in the same way Im seeing something like buffering up to 100~110 bytes then, a ~1.5mSec delay appears on the signal waveforms. Did somebody have good results trying to avoid this?
    Thank you.

  • How can I modify the High Speed Data Reader VI to show correct time information in x-axis?

I am just a beginner learning the LabVIEW programming currently.
I have a PXI 6115 DAQ card and have to make a hardware timed acquisition VI for maximum performance. Thus I use the High Speed Data Logger VI for data acquisition.
However, when I read my data by using the High Speed Data Reader VI, it doesn't show its correct time information in the graph.
How can I modify the High Speed Data Reader VI to show correct time information in x-axis?
I hope you can explain easily because I am a beginner.

    Hey Chunrok,
I've modified the High Speed Data Reader VI slightly so that it now uses the scan rate of the data (as determined from the file) to set the scaling for the data points. If you wanted the start time to be a specific time you could use the start time obtained from your file to set the xscale offset as well.
    I hope this helps!
