MSCS clustering for NW04s WAS Java
Hi,
I am setting up HA environment for a client in WIN 2003. This setup is one MSCS cluster with 2 nodes (active-passive) in it. I have installed SCS in node A and DBINSTANCE in node B, created SAP Cluster group and DB cluster group.
Now iam installing CI (Central instance) on server 3 outside the MSCS cluster nodes. While installing it say 'SCS instance not found'.
The WAS7.0 java installation guide has the option for installing CI & DI on seperate servers which is outside the cluster nodes. If any one done this before, can you give me the solution for this. I am using 4 server, 2 for MSCS nodes, 3rd for CI and 4th for DI
Thanks
Prakash
Hi Anand,
You will need the usage type BI Java for all new reporting features of 2004s (of which report designer is just one component), BI Java includes the EP and AS Java usage types.
Universal Data Connect or Web Services testing functions requires the AS Java usage type.
Please check https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/bifaq
for more answers to these kind of questions.
Please assign points if this was a usefull answer to you.
Best regards,
Olav

One SAP system in two MSCS clusters for R/3 Enterprise
Is the one SAP system in two MSCS clusters architecture supported on R/3 4.7 ( WAS 6.20), with SAP CI on one MSCS cluster and MSSQL on another pair of database MSCS cluster ?
Hi,
I don't think so. The supported architecture is SAP CI on one node and SQL Server on the other node.

Run SAPehpi for ABAP + standalone Java
I have run SAPehpi several times for NW04s ABAP+JAVA. Because ABAP and JAVA are on the same server,
the process is very smooth and easy.
Now I try the same thing on a NW04s with ABAP and JAVA on seperated servers.
Could you share your experience on how to coordinate the dual stack with each on different server?
Blogs and links are very helpful.
Thanks a lot!Why do you need a sequence if they are standalone systems?
I normally in any other scenario apply ABAP and then JAVA so I would proceed in the same way.
Don't forget the backups :-D

DB copy from non-clustered JAVA only to MSCS clustered JAVA only?
Hi!
We have 2 EP7.0 based on SQL server ready for DB copy.
The source EP7.0 is non-clustered
The target EP7.0 is MSCS clustered.
The guide called "System Copy for SAP Systems Based on NW 7.0 SR2 Java"
does not have any coverage on this scenario.
Could you direct me to some related documents?
Thanks a lot!Thanks!
However I want to give more details.
I have done DB copy between non-clustered systems many times. For example I just
finished 2 recently. The procedure is
1) export CI from the source
2) export SQL server DB from the source
3) restore the DB onto the target
4) import the CI into the target.
Now the challenge is the source is a non-clustered EP, the target is an MSCS clustered
EP. Both are running with the same SID.
My question is :
Do I need to do 1) and 4) in the current scenario? i.e. Do I need to do CI export /import?
If YES, becuase the source is a central system, I have to choose "DB and CI export".
But because the target is a clustered (distributed?) one, the import will match?
Thanks! -
Adobe Configuration for WAS Java
Hi
I am planning to configure Adobe on my WAS Java(J2EE) Engine. But my Webdynpro Java Application reads data from SAP R/3.Please suggest me, is it possible to install and configure only on WAS Java Engine?
Thanks
PrasadHello Prasad,
for NW04 you need to download and deplaoy two files:
got to:
http://service.sap.com/downloads
-> Entry by application group:
Support Packages and Patches -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NETWEAVER -> SAP NETWEAVER 04 -> Entry by Component -> Adobe Document Services
Here you can find the files for SP14 J2EE:
ADSSAPOFF14_0-20000262.sca
-> this needs to be deployed first in offilne mode
ADSSAP14_0-20000262.sca
-> this needs to be deployed second in online mode.
Please always update also the ADS together with the J2EE engine.

I am currently trying to install a 640 WAS JAVA add-in for ABAP on AIX 5.2 running oracle 9.2.0.6 for SAP 4.7 SR1.
I have successfully installed the ABAP stack, however, when I try to install the JAVA add-in, I get an error on step "Start SAP J2EE engine". The error is

I am new to JAVA, and I found some OSS notes (668606, 545422, and 943498) that might help, but they may as well be written in German for all I can make out what the notes are trying to say.
Any help would be appreciated.

Perform an export for both ABAP & JAVA in one shot with WAS 640 SAPinst ...
Hello,
I have to perform an OS/DB Migration of a SAP XI 3.0 (WAS640-SR1), an ABAP + JAVA addin configuration.
I would like to know if SAPinst for WAS640 (and SR1) could perform an export for both ABAP & JAVA in one shot as it seems possible in NW7.0 SAPinst version. None of the WAS 640 OS/DB migration guides gives these possibility.
And if not not, could U confirm that I have to perform 1st an export (with R3LOAD) of ABAB stack, then an export (with JLOAD) of the JAVA one ?
And apply the same way for installation with R3load and JLOAD downloaded files ?
Thks in advance
Bernard Accoce
SAP Basis Consultant - TeamWork in Toulouse (France)Hi Bernard,
No, both exports cannot be executed in one single step. You have to execute the procedure twice, once for ABAP and once for Java, like you already mentioned yourself..
For the import applies the same.
Kind regards,

Thanks,
VivekHi Vivek,
FYI :
JStartupICheckFrameworkPackage: can't find framework package D:\usr\sap\NW2\JC02\exe\jvmx.jar
The above message can be ignored. You will see that message often in perfectly up/running systems as well.
Also, the dev_jcontrol file shows that the server process was terminating !
You need to check std_server0.out file for the errors/exceptions as to why server0 was terminating abruptly. The reason should be apparent from dev_server0 and std_server0 most of the times unless its a startup framework bug where the error messages are not written to the log files.
So, whenever the server process or dispatcher process fails to start, you should check the corresponding dev_server<n> or dev_dispatcher and std_server<n> / std_dispatcher files. Also, usually, there will be some exception (if its application related) in the defaultrace file as well under server<n>\log or dispatcher\log depending on which one is failing to start.
e.g. if server0 is failing to start due to some UME issues, you will see the mention of it in std_server0.out (definitely) and more ellaborate info/exceptions in deafultrace under server0\log as well.
Hope the above helps. -
Best Practices for Defining NDS Java Projects...
We are doing a Proof of Concept on using NDS to develop non-SAP Java applications. We are attempting to determine if we can replace our current Java development tools with NDS/WAS.
We are struggling with SAP's terminology and "plumbing" for setting up/defining Java projects. For example, what is and when do you define Tracks, Software Components, Development Components, etc. All of these terms are totally foreign to us and do not relate to our current Java environment (at least not that we can see). We are also struggling with how the DTR and activities tie in to those components.
If any one has defined best practices for setting up Java projects or has struggled with and overcome these same issues, please provide us with some guidance. This is a very frustrating and time-consuming issue for us.
Thank you!!Hi Peggy,
In Component Model we divide software projects into small components.Components can use other components in well defined manner.
A development object is a part of a component that can be changed or developed in some way; it provides the component with a certain part of its functionality. A development object may be a Java class, a Web Dynpro view, a table definition, a JSP page, and so on. Development objects are always stored as sources in a repository.
A development component can be defined as a frame shared by a number of objects, which are part of the software.
Software components combine components (DCs) to larger units for delivery and deployment.
A track comprises configurations and runtime systems required for developing software component versions. It ensures stable states of deliverables used by subsequent tracks.
The Design Time Repository is for versioning source code management. Distributed development of software in teams. Transport and replication of sources.
You can also find lot of support in SDN for the above concepts with tutorials.

Hi all,
I have recently started learning Web Dynpro for ABAP.
I have worked in WebDynpro for Java.
1)I wanted to understand pros and cons of WebDynpro for ABAP and Java.
2)What are the functionality that are available in Web Dynpro for Java but not in Web Dynpro for ABAP.
3)What should be preferred when considering performance issues - WD for ABAP of Java?
Any Web Log or Link in this context will be helpful.
Thanks a lot,
RashmiHi,
OOPs ABAP uses Classes and Interfaces which uses Methods and events.
If you have Java skills it is advantage for you.
There are Local classes as well as Global Classes.
Local classes we can work in SE38 straight away.
But mostly it is better to use the Global classes.
Global Classes or Interfaces are to be created in SE24.
SAP already given some predefined classes and Interfaces.
This OOPS concepts very useful for writing BADI's also.
So first create a class in SE 24.
Define attributes, Methods for that class.
Define parameters for that Method.
You can define event handlers also to handle the messages.
After creation in each method write the code.
Methods are similar to ABAP PERFORM -FORM statements.
After the creation of CLass and methods come to SE38 and create the program.
In the program create a object type ref to that class and with the help of that Object call the methods of that Class and display the data.
see the links below, Understand them and start developing.

Time out parameters for ABAP and JAVA instance
Hello All,
We are looking for Time out parameters for our ABAP and JAVA instances.
As users are complaining that they are getting time out error
while they are trying to access Cprojects from Portal.
I was able to check/collect the ABAP instance parameters from SMICM Tcode.
Can anybody tell me which parameters we need to look for JAVA instance.
Thanks in advance.

Multiple WAS Java on AIX/Oracle
Hi,
We tried several WAS ABAP on AIX/Oracle but recently tried to implement several WAS Java on AIX/oracle.
Has anyone did something like this?
What are the constraints?We have done this on HPUX/Oracle environments and our sandbox runs with EM (NW04S), WAS (NW04S), R3, SRM (WAS640); no problems reported;
please make sure you size these systems and have enough resources on the box;
thanks,
Hari Peruri
