MSCS on Windows 2003 EE Server and x64

Hallo Peter
I was told on the Fujitsu-Siemens SAP Competence Center that you are the only one who can answer this question regarding compatibility of MSCS with ECC 4.7 Ext2.
One of our customer wants to install the following on an x64 Intel Machine:
SAP BASIS 6.20; R/3 4.7 Ext2.0 (SAP Kernel 6.40)        Release for x86_64 64bits Windows Enterprise Server 2003
SQL Server 2005
According to SAP Note 106275 this is only possible with Itanium Servers but I heard it should be possible already with x64 Servers. That somehow, this note is probably outdated  (see answers from the guys of the Microsoft-SAP Alliance adn note below)
Question is :
1) Is MSCS released for x64 and ECC 4.7ext2 ?
2) If yes, I guess the MSCS configuration would be a Classic two node one , just as Peter Simon indicates in your slides:
3) And Last but not least, do you know of a certified partner who is able to implement such  a cluster with SAP ?

Hi Javier,
Before answering directly to your questions....
Why clustering the applications servers (Dialog instance) ?
App server are not considered as SPOF (Single point of failure), as yours DB+CI is protected by a cluster, the CI will take over when app server is failing.
If you have additional servers, i would prefer to install 2 app servers then one  protected by a cluster. When 1 app server is failing you still have the other, giving the same "protection" than it would be in a cluster, but in normal operation you will have 2 app servers giving quit better utilization of servers then the cluster would give....
So if i should answer your questions it would be:
1) Maybe it is possible / supported to cluster a app server, but it makes no sense to do this.
2) No do not install additional app servers into the same cluster protecting your DB-CI instance, use additional (stand alone) servers for the app server(s).
Regards
Rolf

  • Active Directory, Windows 2003 SP2 Server and SMB shares

I have 10 new iMacs that will be returned and exchanged for 10 HP wintels if I can't resolve an issue with SMB shares in Mac OS X 10.4.9.
We had an old win 2000 server, and all the macs could mount their smb shares without problems.
Recently we upgraded to two new 2003 sp2 servers, one of them the domain controller, and we can't mount their SMB shares. I followed this http://weblog.bignerdranch.com/?p=6&page=3 and/or this http://allinthehead.com/retro/218/accessing-a-windows-2003-share-from-os-x to allow AD authentication, but still, I can't mount the 2003 shares (but can with the 2000 ones!!!).
If I enable SFM (services for macintosh) then I can mount the shares, but:
    1) the network is slower (I supouse is due to appletalk implementation)
    2) and worse, names with more than 32 characters or with some special characters are not allowed. This renders 30% of our archives unavailable with the AFP solution.
I also used all the authentication methods (Plain text apple, plain text windows, etc.) but no one works.
I have now 10 days to find a solution, or all "my" macs will dissapear forever.
Please, some advice or point to documentation.
G4, G5, iMac Intel, Mac Book Pro, etc   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Do you just want to mount arbitrary share from the win servers or do you want the macs to be bound to AD?
The first requires the steps from your second link (allinthehead.com) but the latter (bind to AD) requires things like proper use of DNS, time synchronisation for kerberos to work and proper configuration as described in your first link (bignerdranch.com).
Here are some more links for the latter (AD intergration):

    Hi,
I have configured Microsoft CA server on the same ACS 4.0 for Windows 2003 enterprise server which was configured earlier using the self generated certificates for EAP and PEAP authentications.
After I change the certificate from self generated to the new CA certificate that can be viewed under install ACS certificate option on ACS server but having the following problems
    1. SSL is not functioning while internet browser access to the ACS server and going through http instead of https.
    2. Wireless clients are authenticated successfully even after the certificate is uninstalled.
Any help on these problems will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Best Regards,
    Ahmed

    Hi Rohit,
Thanks for reminding the HTTPS option under Administration Control on ACS.
I have some doubts pertaining to installation of certificates on Wireless clients though it is optional for Self Generated Certificates but what in case of Mirosoft CA as I tested wireless client authentications even after removing the certificate from microsoft supplicant WindowsXP SP2 having installed the patch KB885453 for PEAP. How the certificate on wireless client works.
Is it mandatory or optional to keep certificate on Wireless Clients as they could able to get authenticated through ACS after removing the certificate.
    Thanks

  • Windows 2003 Terminal Server, ZEN 7, and WSUS

    Hi,
We're having a problem getting a group policy to "Stick" in Windows 2003
terminal server. The server(s) have the ZEN 7.01 agent installed per
the TID's for a terminal server. We believe we've set all the Group
Policies of the users that login to these systems, yet once they are
rebooted, the WSUS update server location resets to the default
(update.microsoft.com). This is set in gpedit in:
    \computer configuration\administrative templates\Windows
    Components\Windows Update
Is this settable in a user package, or should this be done in a
workstation package? If so, could we "force" the workstation package to
override the Windows Update settings for all users, regardless of what
    user policy package they have?
    Thanks for any ideas!
    Greg

In the Properties of the WS Group Policy, there is an option to set "Loop
Back" so that the Computer GPO is set last.

  • Is is possible to add Windows 6 64-bit drivers to a Windows 2003 print server?

We are having some trouble figuring a way in which to support network printing for Windows 7 64-bit machines that we are starting to intermittently put out in what, as of this moment, is still primarily a native XP 32-bit environment.  Our concern has been that, if we replace the drivers on the print server to the Windows 7 64-bit drivers, then the XP machines will then pull down those drivers and then not be able to print any longer.  According to Microsoft, the way around this is to utilize the "Additional Drivers" area within the properites of the printer.  From there, in theory, you can add a new driver that uses "x64" as the print processor.  However, when we attempted to do this on our legacy Windows 2003 print server (which I believe to be 32-bit) we noticed that, in the "version area" of the selection for the x64 print processor, Windows 7 is not listed.  We then receive the following error message after we attempt to go forward and add the driver. . .
    -Selected printer driver not found
The specified location does not contain the driver HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL6 for the requested processor architecture
It looks to me that the problem is in that the server is Windows 2003 and we are attempting to make Windows 7 drivers work within that framework.  Can someone please confirm this suspician or instruct us further?
    Thanks,
    -Brian McKnight

    Gotcha!!
I am done with mounting a secondary HDD (thanks to ifixit) and installing Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on it without a worry. Charm, charm!!
Boot Camp 5 guide prescribes all needed steps and when read and used correctly, installation must be an easy task. And all the existing apple hardwares work so good in the Windows environment too.
I am going to help out a friend of mine in doing a similar thing on his mac too. If you got specific questions, please do shoot up here and i should be able to get a reply to it (if at all).
    Thanks everyone.

  • I dream of running Dreamweaver on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server

I have a "volume" license and attempted to install Dreamweaver CS4 on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server.  I get an error message right away indicating that the system does not meet the minimum install requirements, ie XP/Vista.
Adobe volume licensing team verified that it is the correct license for installing on a terminal server, but after one hour of what would a bad nightmare with adobe "no" support (Outsourcing issue, failure to grasp and process the basic error message) I got no where and am having to resort to the forums.  I have googled on this and got no where and nothing on the search efforts on this site.
If anyone has an idea of what is going on, bug, wrong install media, please clue me in.
    Thanks!

    pziecina
Thanks for the information.  We do have AppV here and tried that approach.  While this gets us past the install minimum requirements, it does not resolve the issue of running of more than one instance at a time, per terminal server, even though our volume license allows for it.

  • SGA_TARGET SIZE 3GB in 10g Release 2 server on windows 2003 E Server?

Is it possible to increase the SGA_TARGET greater than 3 GB on Windows 2003 Enterprise server(32-bit)?
OS version : Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition
    Service Pack 2
    Bit Version : 32 bit
    Computer(SERVER) : Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz
    3.59GHz, 15.5 GB RAM
    Physical Address Extension
    DataBase Version : Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0)

    hi,
As suggested earlier , please go through following notes as it will help you understand the concepts clearly
Note:342080.1. This note talks in detail on how to use more than 4GB RAM on Windows.
Note:225349.1 Implementing Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) or VLM on Windows Platforms
You can not set SGA_TARGET greater then 2.7 G on windows 32 bit machine. Yes , you can have SGA greater then 3 Gb but by using AWE which requires to unset SGA_TARGET and use db_block_buffers instead of db_cache_size.

    Hi
As mentioned above you will not find Toshiba drivers designed especially for the Windows 2003 R2 Server.
But dont worry and dont give up.
The simply Windows XP drivers should be compatible and you should be able to install the Xp drivers on the Win2003 Server OS.
    good luck

  • Locked files using a Windows 2003 File Server with Mac 10.6 clients running CS5

We migrated 40 Mac users from OS X 10.5/CS3 to OS X 10.6/CS5 back in November. Our InDesign files are kept on a Windows 2003 file server.
We have had fairly constant complaints of InDesign and Photoshop files being reported as locked when users try to save their work back to the server. This did not occur as frequently with CS3.
Has anyone else had this issue?

I'd suggest starting with iFelix's Sharing files between a Windows XP PC and a Mac running OS 10.4.x

Primary DC: Win2012.  BDC: Win2008. Clients: Win7, Win8.1.  Maintaining an old Win2003 terminal server to run legacy software.
Everything works fine for a look time until I added a new GPO to create a desktop shortcut on the client machines, Windows 2003 runs into Error 1030 (Cannot query list of GPO) and Error 1058 (Cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO, The system cannot find

Tried changing the GPO to target Win7 and 8.1 only.  Tried creating shortcut using Computer Config settings only as well as User Config settings only.  Deleting the GPO and creating it from scratch.  Nothing works, as soon as GPO is in place,
it disables the Win2003 from processing any other GPO.
No issue with the client machines or other Windows servers.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Roget Luo

    Hi Roget,
    Thanks for posting here.
Error 1030 and 1058 could be caused by many aspects.
Firstly, please run the command dcdiag on the command prompt of a DC to check if there are any error.
Secondly, make sure the DFS service is started on the domain controller, and set the Startup type to automatic.
What's more, make sure the TCP/IP Helper service  is started on the domain co, set it to Automatic and started it.

A bit of background. We are a Microsoft shop using SQL Server 2005 / Windows 2003 64 bit servers. We need to have ODBC drivers and Oracle OLE provider to connect and transfer data vis SSIS.
