  • Why is it that when I plug my Macbook Pro to an external monitor, the external monitor turns black and shows the mouse only

Why is it that when I plug my Macbook Pro to an external monitor, the external monitor turns black and shows the mouse only

Hi, yes preferences sees there is a second display it recognises what make of monitor it is etc but I just get a blank blue screen on the monitor when I change it to the hdmi setting! I have tried with mirroring on and off, rearranging the displays in the preference window and lots of different resolution settings but with no difference.
An old MacBook connects fine so the monitor and hdmi port must be okay. I'm sure we have used the cable before but it could have been with the previous MacBook Air. The current one I'm using is a mid 2011 version running lion and is (according to software update) all up to date.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!

  • How to monitor OSD TS failure and get alert or report?

How to monitor OSD TS failure and get some alert or generate an report?
    We have SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 with MDT 2013.
I have checked the OSD reports in SCCM and everyone is emty, where do SCCM get data to the what to activate?
(I thinking of "Task Sequence - Deployment Status" reports)
I am not sure people read report manually or lock at the MDT monitor view. So best I think that generate an email or incident in Service Manager when an TS fails.
We do have SCOM, SCSM, SCO.
Is there anyone that can point what way or what option I have?
    /SaiTech

Specifically you could use this Status Message Query syntax to monitor your Task Sequences for errors:
    select stat.*, ins.*, att1.*, att1.AttributeTime from SMS_StatusMessage as stat left join SMS_StatMsgInsStrings as ins on stat.RecordID = ins.RecordID left join SMS_StatMsgAttributes as att1 on stat.RecordID = att1.RecordID inner join SMS_StatMsgAttributes
    as att2 on stat.RecordID = att2.RecordID where att2.AttributeID = 401 and att2.AttributeValue = "DOJ200A1" and stat.SiteCode = "DOJ" and att2.AttributeTime >= ##PRM:SMS_StatMsgAttributes.AttributeTime## order by att1.AttributeTime desc
Just replace DOJ200A1 with the Deployment ID of your Task Sequence and DOJ with your SiteCode.
If you want to generate an alert if the TS fails then you could run a script that calls a utility (or similar) which sends a pre-configured email to a specified address (as an alternative to Torten's response). This could be placed in the built in error
logging section of the SCCM integrated MDT Task Sequence when it fails which I assume you are using (right at the bottom, called Gather Logs and StateStore on failure).
There are heaps of ways of generating an email from a TS and controlling error logging just do a search - as you have Service Manager you could even use your instance of Orchestrator and call a run book in your TS which does the email?
    Cheers

  • Dual Monitor versus External Monitor

Hi, I have a question that leads to another and I should have learned this along time ago, but the term Dual Monitor and External Monitor (such as editing in FCP and viewing work on a Third monitor, for example) are two different concepts, correct?
Having gotten use to working on my 23" Apple display, I no longer use a dual monitor setup, but I would like to view product through an external monitor. I just got an HDTV with HDMI connections. With a DVI to HDMI adaptor, theoretically I should be able to hook up my G5 to the the HD monitor via a HDMI cable on the second port behind my G5. Can I use the second port for external monitoring?
    Thanks,
    Gary

So you want to be able to direct FCP output to a second HDTV monitor full screen? I don't know the answer to that question but you might consider posting it to the FCP section of the Apple Forums where I am sure you will get a quick and concise answer.

  • Can I use my monitor and external speakers with apple tv

I have an extra computer monitor (DVI input) and external speakers (3.5mm male audio jack.) Is there  some combination of adapters that I can use to hook up an apple tv to them in order to stream from netflix, and my itunes library?

no but you can get tons of solutions where you connect something to your tv's minijack headset connector and then it wireless transfer the audio signal to a headset
there are both bluetooth solutions belkin have one I use and there are also solutions where the headset is included and they use their own custom protocol
but mind you there is no way to keep such setups in sync in terms of video and audio so if the system is poor in quality or pre-process the audio signal too much it cause audio and visuals to get out of sync

  • External monitor with external mouse and keyboard. what am I doing wrong?

I got a iBook G3 with 600 MHz , 640 RAM, running 10.4.10. I bought a external keyboard, mouse and got a free ViewSonic Monitor from school so I hoped that I would be able to use all of these while the lid of my computer was closed. I close it, wait a few seconds, press random keys on my external keyboard to wake it up and it at first appears that it works but then it just goes back to sleep after about 1 min at the most. If you could help me I'd appreciate it. THANKS!!!!

You aren't doing anything wrong; the iBook is supposed to sleep whenever you close it. It's designed to work that way, ostensibly so that it won't overheat.
Apple's word on the matter can be found in this Apple Knowledge Base article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88199
Others have addressed the problem by simply darkening the display with the F1 key and leaving the iBook open an inch or so.

  • FW problem with Apogee Duet, Yamaha monitors, and external FW800 HD...

Recently purchased an Apogee Duet and Logic Express 8. Love it so far but there's a cracking noise coming out of the Yamaha monitors when I turn on the external HD via FW800. The Duet is connected via FW400.
It'll be nice to solve this issue. The digital/cracking noise is annoying. It's almost unworkable. Additionally, I use the external FW800 as my recording drive so it's crucial. I guess the FW bus is overloaded. Is an express/34 card the only option? If so, any recommendations.
Besides this, the Duet sounds awesome w/out the FW800 HD plugged in.
    Thanks, mT.

I'm having the same issue -- lots of crackly digital noise coming through my studio monitors (but not through the headphones). The noise, I find, is particularly loud when the 48v is on. Is that the case with you? I initially discovered the issue while trying to record with an AKG C 451 B condenser. When the mic was getting phantom via the Duet, I was getting digital crackling. However, when I put a preamp between the condenser and the Duet (in this case a UA Solo/610) and had the preamp supply the 48v, the crackling was gone. So: is this an issue with the FW or an issue with the Duet's phantom power?
(I'm using the Duet with Logic Pro 8)

  • Monitor for external drive activity?

I want a monitor to see how maxed out my external fw400 lacie drive is when I am using final cut to see how much data is going through the system. Do they have such a thing?

AJA makes a free one you can download that will test a drives cabable bandwidth.  There are some live ones out there if you look around.  If you're editing video, FW400 is getting maxed out for sure, no question.  FW800 barely keeps up for HD, no question.  What is your exact goal in having a data read/write measurement?

  • Disconnecting built-in monitor - will external VGA allow higher resolution?

I want to connect an external monitor to an iMac 17" FP G4. I was told that if I disconnect the built-in monitor (on the logic board), then I can get more than 1024x768 on the external mini-VGA port. I'm hoping that someone in the forums has done this and can verify. I am thinking of getting a 20" external that supports 1680x1050. I was told by a service guy that this was a "little trick" you can do. By disconnecting the built-in monitor, then the machine assumes that the external is the primary monitor, and allows higher rez.
    Thanks in advance

A few iMac G4 owners, whose computer display had some issue
decided to remove the attached chrome arm and LCD; and then
run solely a single external display. The results varied and some
were OK with the mechanical and software patch/hack/mods
they did to make the computer work that way. Of those, some
still had to do other things to get the external display's resolution
correct or to a more desired setting, some old patches for that
are available; and some users say they still work in the G4 iMac.
You could also try the 'screen span doctor' and also' switch resX'
both are free; and to some extent, both are sort of hacks... With
these, you may be able to experiment without removing the iMac
LCD display; since that is very invasive and may be a big mistake.
You can adjust the resolution for an additional display and also
with the other software that allows screen expand, not just mirror.
And the screen span doctor is an older software patch/hack
which came with a disclaimer. Some computers failed & others
appeared to work in the different screen mode. The original
expanded desktop patch was for iBook; then eMac and iMac G4.
These have been posted with links to the download sites in
the Discussions forums, and are still in the site, with disclaimer.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • New macbook white monitor (LVDS cable failure)

My LVDS cable was failing on me, the screen was freezing and whitening out. A common issue.
I bought the cable from eBay and tried replacing it myself, since Apple would only replace the whole top monitor part for US$727 in my country (US$200 in USA).
My repair did not work, I removed the monitor and started using the macbook with an external monitor. Now a trip to US came up and I'm willing to take it with me to get a new monitor top attached to it.
Should I reattach the top part of the monitor before taking it to US to get it replaced or just take it as it is and get a new one attached?

Sound like your better off taking everything, since you already opened the device it might not be covered under warranty and they might just offer to replace the cable this time around.

  • Second Monitor and External Drive

Hi everyone, first..sorry in advance if this is in the wrong place but I felt like this covered two topics.
So I have an old ibook g4 thats just collecting dust in my closet and I thought to myself "why not put it to use" so my question is this; can I use it as an external drive and a second screen at the same time?
I already know that if I plug in a firewire cable to both my macbook and ibook and boot it hold (i dont remember what key) it will boot as an external drive and i found this; http://www.screenrecycler.com/ScreenRecycler.html
which looks like it will make my ibook into a second monitor, but how can i do those both at the same time.
    All help is appreciated
    Thanks!

Your old FW drive is FW 400. New Mac's come with FW 800 ports. You need an adapter from FW 800 to FW 400.
You will also need a Thunderbolt/Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter.
Both of these adapter should be available from your Local electronics store or online retailer, including Apple stores, Online and brick and mortar

  • Monitoring via external TV monitor

hey, i know i've done this before but I cannot for the life of me remember how to monitor my editing through an external TV connected through a deck to my computer via firewire. i.e. I am trying to get the TV to function as the 'canvas' window in FCP.
i tried messing around in Audio/Video settings, but I just can't figure it out.
    any advice?
    thanks in advance

Its covered pretty well in the manual, but here's a few tips:
Make sure the DV device (VTR, camcorder or converter) is set to Firewire in and to output the incoming digital signal to its analog outputs.
Connect the analog outputs of the DV device to the analog inputs (AV or line) of your TV monitor, then make sure the TV is set to the proper input.
Power up the DV device and TV, then launch FCP. If you do not see FCP's output on the TV, go to View->External Video and make sure its set to ALL FRAMES.
If that doesn't work, post back.

  • Monitoring 2 External Midi devices at playback

    Hi, I'm a "Newbie," I have a MAC G5, Logic Express 7.1, a MOTU 828
(first generation) and 2 external midi devices (Triton Extr, and a Roland JV 880) I
can only monitor one of the devices at a time at playback - wichever channel
I have chosen in the MOTU preferences.
I know it was a challenge to set up Cubase to monitor both at the same time.
Is it possible in Logic Express?
Thanks for any help that might be had out there!
    Borgy

Couple of things I don't understand about your question.
Are you running Vienna Ensemble on a separate computer? If not, why not use it as an AU plugin? If you have it installed on the same computer as Logic there would be no need to treat it as an external instrument. If you are running it on a separate machine double check the audio and MIDI hardware connections, drivers for both interfaces, Apple Audio/Midi Utility settings, environment, and finally the settings on your ext instrument (in the track.)
You mention being unable to hear VE when bouncing, but then you also mention that there is no signal from those tracks showing on the master fader. Is this specifically a problem when bouncing, or are you basically unable to hear and see signal from your VE tracks while recording, playing, mixing?
If VE runs smoothly from another computer (presumably to ease the burden on your main cpu) and you are able to hear it and see it at the master outputs just as you expect, and you ONLY have a problem when bouncing, then your solution is simple. Make sure that you bounce in "realtime" mode when including external instruments or fx. "Offline" mode will not include them.
Sorry if I'm covering stuff you know and have already tried; hopefully some portion of this info will help you.

  • Best monitor for external playback?

I have never used an external monitor before for playback, and now that I'm going to start color grading HD footage, I find that I'm probably going to need one.
I have heard that most computer monitors have their own "look" in terms of contrast, brightness, and color. My question is this: what should one get for external playback and color correction? I'm assuming an HDTV, or a 1920x1080 computer monitor, but what specifically should I look for in terms of specs? Affordability is also an issue here. Thoughts?

Thanks for getting back to me, Shane.
I'm a little new to all of this, so bear with me. It seems from what I just read about the Matrox MXO, and the like devices you mentioned above, that their main advantage is that they output broadcast quality, correct? Is there more to it than that?
Since that kind of thing isn't in my price range yet, I was thinking more along the lines of computer monitors/hdtvs that I would just hook up with the mini-display port. Nothing too fancy.
What should I look for in terms of inputs? From mini-display, what's best: dvi, vga, or hdmi? What should I look for in terms of contrast ratio? Is LED backlit a must?
Budget is <500. With a computer monitor/hdtv, will I have to have my display settings on extended desktop, and then drag my canvas over onto the new screen?
    Thanks for the help!

  • Powerbook monitor as external display for Macbook Pro

    Hello,
I have a powerbook G4 and a newer Macbook Pro. Is it possible to use the display of the G4 as an external monitor for the MB Pro?
    Thanks

Try ScreenRecycler - seems like this will do what you need by tunneling through VNC instead of a direct video connection.
