MSI 180 wireless LAN question (Cant connect to my linksys access point)

Hi all,
This is my first post, I couldn't find the answer, hope I am not double posting:)
I just bought myself a nice barebone MEGA 180 today together with 512Mb of memory, an Athlon XP 3000 and some other stuff.. Its up and running almost nicely now:)
The thing I cant seem to figure out is how to get my wireless network going. I've installed the driver but within my network setup I can't seem to set the security correctly. It can find my access point but it wont allow me to set the security the way I want. I use WPA Pre-shared Key with TKIP but the standard windows XP network stuff (which seems to be used here) only allows me to use normal WEP..
I had this problem with other computers aswell where the standard windows functionality just dont cut it but installing the drivers that came with those cards seem to fix the whole problem as they bypassed the standard XP stuff..
Is something similar needed for the 180?
Hope someone can help me out here, I dont want to go changing my network back to WEP.

would it be a hassle to convert to WEP encryption? at least just to see if that works?
have you looked for any updated drivers at www.msi.com.tw?

G4 (10.4.11) airport (9.52) wifi connectivity issue w WPA access point

I am struggling to resolve a wi-fi connectivity issue between a G4 imac with airport card and a netgear wireless-n access point.
The set up is as follows - the broadband comes into a Netgear router (DG834Gv5)which my Intel imac connects wirelessly to. Two daughter's den is away downstairs so I run an ethernet cable from the main netgear router to a netgear Pro-safe wireless access point (WNAP210) as an extender (we live on a houseboat so there are metal bulkheads and the like inbetween.
In the den older daughters G5 wirelessly connects to the Netgear access point easily through a WPA-PSK connection.
Younger daughters G4 running 10.4.11, with original airport card running firmware 9.52 (airport admin utility 4.2) refuses with the 'wrong password' error (it isn't - I have checked 50x) or sometimes just 'there was an error joining'.
It can see the network strongly (the airport menubar icon goes full, then cuts, then flashes on, then drops) but refuses any traffic.
This G4 can however connect, weakly, with my upstairs router which is also WPA-PSK protected (same password)!
I have read all the forums on this and despite some non-expert posts muddling the issue I believe that this SHOULD be possible. Not WPA2 I know but basic WPA.
In addition the options in the netgear extender are b&g (like upstairs which works), g or n. So I have selected b&g - no difference.
Currently I have had to set a separate channel for her and leave it unsecured which isn't a long term option (I am just hoping that even the cleverest war-driver cant sneak in through the extender, back up to the traffic between my Intel and the main router !!?)
Can anyone suggest what I might be missing in the conjuration (sic, ahem) configuration settings either on the G4 or the Netgear box ?
Is it enough to turn the broadcasting of the open channel name off and so render it invisible ?

OK, I´m currently downloading the speedport manual from their website and will look through it, in order to see if there´s something in there..
as a first guess I´d try looking at the wireless prefs of that speedport box. I guess it supports by default 802.11a/b/g, whereas the G4 only does 802.11b (the "normal" airport). Try selecting only the 802.11b portion from the speedport (that makes networking somewhat slower for airport express computers, but shoudn´t be a problem since it´s still at least as fast as basic DSL service (11MBit vs 2 or 6 MBit)

MEGA 180 Wireless LAN

Has anyone got the wireless LAN to work? You shouldn't need an anntena as it's mounted behind the front bezel. WinXP recognizes it but no matter what I do I can't activate it. My customer wants to connect to her wireless router. Arrg! This machine is driving me crazy!!!

It should not be a problem at all, but make sure you have a pair of tweezers at hand for reconnecting the antenna cables. I use the Realtek drivers from: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads1-3.aspx?lineid=2002111&famid=2002111&series=2002121&Software=True
This site also contains drivers for Linux, perhaps they will work?
With these drivers it is also possible to let the Mega 180 act as an Access Point (WinXP).

Cant connect IPOD to linksys WRT54G router

Hi, i have a LINKSYS WRT54G router .. i bought an apple ipod touch recently and i am unable to connect it to my wifi network. My ipod detects the wifi network but when i select it , it asks for password. now i dont know which password is this bcoz everytime i poer on my computer or laptop i never type a password b4 accessing internet.. it is auto connected. i know the admin password for my router but that is denied by ipod to connect to internet. Is there any other password we have to give for connecting deveices through LINKSYS or some changes i need to do in my connection ? PLzz help plzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Wireless bridging is not working in 1552 outdoor access point and 2602e indoor access point.

I am have been tested wireless bridging with 2 indoor Cisco 2602 access point by following the attached document and its working fine without any issue.
After then I made one Cisco 1552 EU-M-K9 outdoor access point as RAP, then connect to this RAP with one 2602 mesh access point. But its not working, mesh access point is just start scan the signal to get associate with RAP, but not getting established. Is there any specific configuration required to connect between outdoor and indoor access point. Kindly find the attachment and advise.

Can I use the Ethernet Port of the A1264 Airport Express to connect to the Ethernet port of a computer that does not have wireless capability when the Airport Express is also used on a wireless network with an Airport Extreme 5th generation as the access point for the network?

Bob, Thanks for the info. I have read different articles that said yes, but I wanted to make sure before I commit to buy. I have an older A1084 which I could not use the Ethernet port. I know at one point I was able to when I was on 10.4. Now that I am on an Intel processor and 10.8 I am going to have to upgrade some of my Apple wireless hardware.

Can I get Airport to automatically connect to a stronger Access Point

Hello,
I am running Leopard 10.5.3 and have 2 access points (not apple) on the one network. One AP is at the opposite end of my house to the other.
When I make it to the opposite end of the connected AP, I get only 1 bar and it usually drops. Can I set airport to automatically connect to the strongest AP automatically even if it isn't out of signal?
I hope this makes sense?

I have to Wireless access points on the 1 network yes.
I have one of the AP's set up as a preferred network.
However once I am far away from it, I only get 1 bar of strength and then the connection becomes inconsistent (will go to no signal and then back to 1 etc.) At this point when it is doing this no signal to 1 I want airport to change to the AP. Is this possible?

I cannot print to a p1102w if i am on a machine connected to the same access point as the printer..

I have two p1102w printers set up in a school, any time I try to print it will only work if the laptop i'm using is connected to a different wireless access point than the printer. This happens anywhere in the school, has anyone ever encountered something like this before?
The laotops are running xp sp3 professional by the way.

First thing to do is check your routing rules and tables in the network to make sure the type of communication you're wanting (printing via wireless on the same access point) is allowed. I'm betting something is off in those that's preventing communication.

Ok, so in had to do this to my iPad because it crashed. if you are okat restoring your phone, you need to put it into dfu mode.
1 Hold both lock and home button until screen goes dark
2 once I'd does, not immidietly but a little bit after (don't wait to long because it will restart) let go of the power button (still holding the home button)
3 hold old that for about 10 secs. Your phone screen will be black
4 plug into iTunes. iTunes will detect it and say "iphone in recovery mode" just press restore and if you have a backup, use that
When I first learned how to do this, it took me a few tries but it works really well and it is a nice thing to know how to do

Access Connections 5.61 - Which Access Point am I on?

I have 3 access points in my area (a mobility center), and it appears only one of them is working. When I go near that one I can get connected but when I logoff and walk near the other two, nothing. I see all 3 listed at 100%, but is there a way to specifically connect to one access point, as it appears to always choose the closest (whether it works or not). I am using Access Connections 5.61. I just noticed there is a field where I can put the preferred MAC address in, but that secion is greyed out. Can I at least determine which access point I am connected through when I do get connected? Thanks in advance.

You can do it in the way, that you configure 3 different wifi connection for each AP and then you configre the on, that you want to use to be always the prefered using following method:
in this situation please configure AC in following way:
- open Ac->Tools->Location Switching-> in the screen make sure, that the location switching in enabled and the key point is, that you specify the correct Wifi AP in the "Preferred WLAN profile".
Let me know, if you have reached to this situation and cold configure it in the correct way.

I deleted the c1130-rcvk9w8-mx. I also installed tftpd32 on the PC. I have c1130-k9w7-tar.default on the PC desktop. what is default? do I need to have c350-k9w7-tar.123-8.JA2.tar on the desktop to load the image? May I know the right file name?

VB Script to Disable Wireless LAN on Wired connection detection

We have few E6400, E4300, E6410 and E4310 in our environment which do not support
Disabled upon Wired Connect option. Is there a script which can disable the Wi Fi as soon as these machines are connected to LAN wired connection and enable the Wi Fi when Wired connection is not available. Please help it is very urgent.
If any script is available can it be run as a Windows service as we can't run it via GPO Start up script? Please help.

We have these same systems, so I also need a solution for this. I only have an E6420 available to me right now, and this model supports the "Disabled upon Wired Connect".
I believe that the best way to tackle this would be to look for the event(s) for the wired connection connecting and disconnecting. Looking at the event log on my system, I determined that the disconnecting event is Event Code 27, and the connecting event(s)
are 33 and 34.
With that information, I can setup a loop that waits and will only trigger on these events. Depending on the event ID, I then find the wireless network adapter and either enable or disable it accordingly.
The script below will need to be started during Windows startup or through a scheduled task to trigger at user logon or system startup. This is untested on the machines you have listed, I may be able to test this when I am back in the office next week.
The advantage of this script is that it is using event notifications as opposed to continuous loops (which are processor intensive). This script will simply sit idle in the background until the events are triggered, at which time the wireless adapter is
either enabled or disabled. The script will then wait for one of the events to occur again, and so on...
Please let me know how this works for you, like I said, I need this also and the more people testing it the better the solution will be.

just bought linksys wireless router 160nl i tried to setup the router up with the software provided and when its installing the router i get an error message
