MSi 2260 All-in-one: Removing the back cover

Does anyone know how to remove the back cover of the All-in-one? I've removed the stand, all the screws round the edges, and the plastic cover at the top, all to no avail. I don't want to force anything. The machine is out of warranty, and it's getting slow and noisy so I thought whilst I rebuilt it I might replace the main H/D with a solid state drive. Not a very good start then when I can't even remove the back!
thanks
qb

I just recently replaced the hard drive in mine.  You do not have to remove the stand.  Lay it screen down on a towel.  Remove 8 screws (1 under the warranty sticker).
The tricky part is removing the front of the DVD tray without breaking it, but it is possible.  Straighten out a paper clip and push it in the little hole in the DVD tray--the door will open--then use a small knife to release the hooks that hold the DVD tray cover to the DVD tray.  Careful, don't break it!

  • Removing the back cover

    Hi all,
Well, we have the ever-popular, iMac G5 that won't power up issue. No sound, no video, the light turns on. The one-year warranty expired on 2/17/07 and it's not in the first generation iMacs covered by Apple's extended repair for this issue.
We are interested in diagnosing in more detail but are having a hecka time getting the back cover off. Funny how the user's manual simply states: raise the foot and lift the back cover off. Sure.
Anyway, anyone have some back cover removal tips or tricks? We've got some old credit cards we can ruin but aren't having much luck with those either.
    Thanks.

Please advise which model G5 iMac you are trying to remove the back cover?

  • How can I remove the back cover for my ipod?

I need to remove the cover because my ipod seems to be suffering from a hardrive problem. It used to just cycle through all the songs in a playlist or randomly play 5 seconds and skip to the next song, but now it just makes a whirring noise when I try to turn it on and cannot get past the apple logo.
Sometimes I get the little unhappy ipod logo and the support website but thats it.
Iv tried going into diagnostic mode and attempting to run a few tests. It failed a USB test in this mode so i think that may be one of the problems with it.
Does anyone know of a fool proof way of removing the case so I can dis/reconnect the harddrive?

Before you remove the back cover of your iPod - which will loss the warranty
    Read the following
he Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

    Instructions for opening case:
    1. Place handset in left hand (screen down)
    2. Place left thumb just under groove that comes from camera
    3. Place right thumb at the bottom of case so that the top of the thumb can press the button but bottom of thumb will push very bottom of case down.
    4. with both thumbs working together push down and up with right thumb and up with left thumb.
Case SHOULD click open, if the button has moved up inside the back case the plastic springs have bent or broken and the unit needs to go into a CNSP.

Hi, I just tried doing what you suggest but am not quite sure what groove you mean in respect of the groove that comes from the camera. From the side this phone looks like it is three layers and I am not sure which bit/s are supposed to slide anyway now. My button is now half pushed underneath the back of the 'back' but is still sort of moving up and down if pressed on, but I just cannot budge the back or what I think is the back in any way whatsoever. My thumb is short and I cannot push the button down and push the back with the same thumb! Unfortunately taking the phone to a shop is not an option and I need the phone for business for Monday. I am scared of breaking it by using force. Someone has mentioned a knack and a way of getting it off but has not said how apart from yourself.Message Edited by binarycape on 03-Mar-2007

  • I want to know how to remove the back cover of my HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 to install new memory?

I want to know how to remove the back cover of my HP Product name: HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 to install new memory?  All the HP website shows is how to remove memory covers.  Unfortunately, with newer models like mine, the whole back cover needs to be removed.  I have tried unsuccessfully to remove it but so far all that I have succeeded in doing is to scratch my cover.  So can anyone help???
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
The procedure is detailed starting on Page 67 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Note:  I don't work for HP, but looking at the degree of disassembly required, I would say the procedure may well void the conditions of warranty.

  • How do you remove the back of an early 2008 model iMac

I need to replace my hard drive but can't locate the screws to remove the back cover.

Go to OWC or MacFixit (or do a Google search) and view their videos and/or help files to see how to open up an iMac. You've got it all bassackwards.

Ok.  Found something that said to shut down and hold the option, command, p, and r keys on restart.  Held them down for a few restarts and everything automatically signed in and works.  Woohoo!!!

If you enabled Find my iPhone then you should use that. If not, I'm afraid you're out of luck for finding it.

  • Help I can't removed the back of my 6288

    Hi
I have a new 6288 which I got today. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove the back to put the battery it. The guide says it should slide my mine is very firmly attatched.
Should the whole back (shiny black and sliver bit) or just the shiny black bit slide off?

I heard someone used a chisel - Not a very good idea!

  • Removing the back?

    hey,
any help on removing the back case of the iPhone 3g or do i have to take it to an apple store?
    thanks

Voiding the warranty simply mean that if something else breaks during the warranty period by itself, apple will charge you to have it replaced. For example, if my screen died tonight by itself (ie, I didn't drop the phone), Apple would most likely replace it under warranty free of charge. If they find that I have performed unauthorized modifications (ie. tried to replace screen by myself before), then they would charge me to replace it properly.
If you've already taken the cover off and messed up some thing, they will gladly fix it for you for a hefty fee and may deny any future warranty claims.
