MSI 280X Gaming 3G ZeroCore Power not working

Hi folks,
the AMD ZeroCore Power feature seems not to be working with my card. Fans are not spinning down when the Monitor goes into sleep.
Tested with Catalyst Drivers from 14.4 through 14.9
Tested with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1
No movement on screen when monitor-sleep kicks in. Tested from 1 Minute idle time to 2 hours.
Anyone having the same problem?

Power Options >> can't select High performance
Choose when to turn off the display >> Turn off the display: XX minutes
I have Catalyst 14.4
win 8.1 64bit
R7 260X Gaming 1G
Fans stop after the monitor auto goes into sleep, don't have this problem

Have tried differnt AMD drivers the latest Omega seems more unstable than the lastest beta, but crashing more with this one now.
Rolled back to 14.4 but the same.

  • MSI 280x Gaming 3G Safe Sustained Temperature

    Hi,
I'm new to overclocking and underclocking but since I have 2 cards that are close together and am running them at 100% usage 24/7 I've been unable to use normal clock speeds and have the card very underclocked (ex, 800,740). My question is how hot can I run these on a 24/7 basis without damaging the cards?  I realize this may be a relative question but these are new cards and I expect a 5 year lifespan.  From other forums I've been optimizing with a maximum sustained temperature of 89C, but I am trying to attain maximum performance. To do that I'll need to know how hot I can let them run, non-stop for 5 years.
The crossfire bridge is not installed, and I'm using the Z87-GD65 board with an intel i5-4670 (1100 Watt power supply).

Thank you, that is a good answer to my original question. These 280x's though would overheat within minutes, to be exact when I returned them the computer shop tested it and it took almost exactly 2 minutes to reach 90C at manufacturer settings. The 280x is rated at 1000mhz and being able to run them non-stop at 800mhz would be reasonable but I couldn't even run them non-stop at 600mhz without them overheating.  As for their intended purpose of gaming, including video and audio feeds with some voice recognition, object tracking, and object identification would probably be more than enough to create the same load that mining causes. I also intend to test neural networks and genetic algorithms on them, all things that could be included in a gameing engine for the purpose of enhancing difficulty based on player capability. If the cards can't handle a full load, than it's false advertising and the fully-loaded specs should be available to both programmers like myself, and consumers that are being mislead.
These cards are now in the hands of MSI, so I'll know more when I have normal 280x cards.  With this information, knowing the safe temperatures and expected operating ranges I should be able to utilize these cards, but stop lying to consumers. The specs on the box are clearly their peak performance, and not the performance they can actually operate at.
    Operating temp: 75C-79C
    Core Speed: 800mhz
The one spec you left out is the memory speed? Can I expect this also needs to be toned down 20%?
    Memory Speed: 1200mhz ???
memory speed is fine! at 1200MHz (4.8GHz effective as its 1200MHz x4) constantly that the chips are rated at they should function 8-12years without issue unless there defective and Mining also will not push the Chips very hard only the GPU as its mainly just plain data that being crunched (would expect no more then a 512MB load out of 2GB on each card or below) so there unstressed anyway (VRAM is only going to be stressed by games or benchmarks that have huge Visual Data sets of textures designed to cause a heavy visual load to be calculated) so the VRAM frequancy is nothing as the chips are usually rated for the frequancy 24/7 for 10+ years at a typical clock speed so do not worry about that but if your still concerned drop it to 1000MHz (4GHz effective) but it will make no difference really overall!
Quote from: rritoch on 27-February-14, 16:18:40
I'm also curios if these actual "safe" operational conditions are available via OpenCL, or if it is going to report 1000mhz. If so than any application written to utilize GPU (such as matlab) is likely  going to burn up the card if the user doesn't know that it needs to be underclocked.
it will clock the GPU under load to its set High Frequency (dependant on what you set the speed at) under a heavy load as its not the Application doing so its the Cards VBIOS detecting a load and ramping up the Clocks to make the load be calculated faster as that is what people expect in a game to happen (Like I said before 24/7 operation over a long time frame is the realm of Professional cards that have been validated for a heavy work load not what these are which is Consumer Grade items that are many times cheaper and are disposable commodities generally as gamers usually upgrade them quite regular) so underclocking a consumer Grade item like your R9-280x is a good idea as your using them outside of there Design standard that is much lower a load then your throwing at the GPU and applications unless they are designed to alter the VBIOS Frequency limit then it will just use the default setting that is held in the driver table! <--- if your doing 24/7 calculation loading on a card of this level and you do not know to underclock and undervolt them then you are probably not meant to be doing so as you have too low a understanding of what its doing so really people who do that and they kill it are on there own as there doing something they have such little knowledge about that there asking for trouble! (you yourself seem to be fairly Knowledgeable to this which is why i'm not being very harsh with you because you do understand that if its overheating and getting near the limits to back it off to try and stop it breaking!)
TIP: when you get your new cards back from RMA let then sit under a Gaming load for a while (30-100% for 3-4 hours with 5 mins between each 30 mins max time frame loads "Maybe use a benchmark") to cure the TIM on the card to help its performance long term as you may have Baked the TIM to fast last time (dried it out too much) leading to the High temps by just throwing it into ultra high load mining constantly at it before it had had a chance to bed in and reach its correct thermal conduction rate Ruining it!

  • MSI 270x Gaming tf - one fan not always start

    Hi,
i bought recently MSI 270x gaming and mine problem was high temperatures. I discovered that one of the fan doesnt work (it look like he had too less voltage to start). I touch him gently and he start work fine for few days (shut down pc for night). Sadly yesterday he wont start again on turn pc (it look like turn power up -> both fans start rotate few times, they stop and next they go on little higher rpm - this is moment when one of fans have troubles).
Fan look really fine, doesnt have any resistance to rotate when you touch him, its look more like problem with control from voltage system.
Its possible to change video card bios in way to give more power to fans on start (i think this will solve problem with not starting fan).
    Here is mine vbios h.ttp://www.filedropper.com/pitcairn

There have been several issues reported about fans on this card model. Seems a batch of this are simply bad. Contact MSI about it or contact reseller for rma. >>How to contact MSI.<<

Well, I crossflashed my 7970 TFIII OC to the 280X Gaming OC.
The card is cooler and runs faster, except for the "idle" bug, there is no other issue.
Maybe this BIOS would fix the idle bug, so I don't have to use the Gaming App.
Only problem with that BIOS is that it is old, from 2013., and does not support the GOP.

  • Power not working

    power not working

    Hello @Ohenebakwaku ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the power is not working on your notebook.
It would help to know which product you are using. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
If the LED indicator does not light up where the AC adapter connects it could mean a bad AC adapter or a bad power connector. If you have access to another AC adapter try it out and let me know if it works.
If the right lights up but the notebook is otherwise unresponsive try a hard reset. Disconnect the adapter and battery and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Reconnect the battery and adapter and try to turn on the notebook.
Here is some other documentation that might help:

  • 970 gaming usb 3.0 not work.

My USB 3.0 ports do not work, by that I mean when I plug in a device (doesn't matter if it's USB 2.0 or 3.0) there is no power supplied to the device. When I plug the same device into a USB 2.0 port it powers on.
I try to restart the machine and check the Device Manager in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
Sometimes find USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller. Usb 3.0 port, it will be used. But sometimes not. Usb 3.0 port is unusable.
    How to fix. ?
    Thank you.
    win 7 64
    latest bios v.22.2

When it is found USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller, can your device be detected and powered?
----Yes, it works. Front and rear.
Try enter BIOS and disable: Settings--Advanced--USB configuration--XHCI option and see if it gets any changes.
----Now, I'm working. If I go home, I will do as you are told. The results, however, will notice.

If this is a new laptop, I think I would either get ahold of MSI for warranty support or return it to the store you bought it from for repair or replacement.
it is new but it has now no warranty because i have open the under hdd.
And now i have a another problem. .!
the battery was at 6% so I went charging.
it says that the battery is charging but remains at 1%, and if I disconnect the adapter from the laptop, the laptop goes shutdown.
Without the adapter the laptop will not open.

  • MSI Gaming G Series Mouse not working with MSI GS70 2QE Stealth Pro

    Hi,
since i bought this notebook I had different troubles with this mouse (included with the notebook)
The mouse often stutters, lags, goes in idle not only in games but also in Windows 8, causing playing FPS being impossible. The pop-up "USB Device Not Recognized" appers sometimes, such as the sound you hear when you plug/unplug any usb device. All latest drivers have been already installed.
I tried to use another mouse and it works perfectly on the GS70. Same time I tried the gaming mouse on another PC and it works perfectly too. So, it's the combination "Gaming Mouse + GS70" that won't work at all.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my English.

Maybe uninstall and reinstall the drivers without the mouse connected? Are you using a USB hub? I had problems similar to what your describing with a MSI mouse while using a hub, before.

The interface is to tell you at what speed and voltage that it is regulating from the stock numbers. That is the way of power saving readings.
How come it doesn't report the "Total Power Savings" in watts?

  • Msi 270x 2gb BF4 edition , boost not working?

    Hello ,
i own a msi 270x bf4 2gb edition , the card itself is nice and since i was helping a friend troubleshoot issues with his 280x (also msi) i was checking my own stats in cpuz and noticed that it always stays on 955mhz.
now on the website it says the following :
1030MHz Core (Boost Clock:1120MHz) (OC mode)
1030MHz Core (Boost Clock:1080MHz) (Gaming mode)
1030MHz Core (Boost Clock:1050MHz) (Silent mode)
    - I can manually set the core to 1030 as max in afterburner and that works .
If i install the msi gamer app and run that , it does not matter if i hit quiet , gaming or oc the clock rate goes to 975 and not higher (+ the fans wont spin properly)
whats going on here , am i missing something or ?

checked the case, but the VGA freq. is fine,
this card is not suppose to have higher clock.
