MSI 5600 wavy video and lockups

I have been reading on the boards, but have yet to come across a problem quite like mine.  Let me give a quick rundown:
A few months ago, out of the blue, my older Geforce 1 card started having some problems.  Lockups were frequent, and oddly enough I was getting what I can only describe as "wavy video" and graphics glitches (Pretty much it looks like the horzontal hold goes crazy while jumbling the picture up and adding white and black lines).  At first, I only got these problems when running 3d games, but a few days later the Windows XP professional and CheckDisk screen started getting the same problems.  Strangely, the windows desktop was fine, so if I just let it sit through the wavyness at the spash screen, the desktop would come up with no problem... At least till I tried to run a game of some sort.
I tried a different monitor and found the same problems.  Then I tried another video card, a friends GeforceMX.  This card ran perfectly.  So I figured, okay, time to get a new card.  I ordered the MSI 5600fx card and was very happy with it.  It ran perfectly for about 3 weeks, when suddenly, it locked up on me.  No big deal, I thought and rebooted.
Boy was I wrong.  The wavyness is back in a big way, along with lockups, and somtimes on the first couple of reboots, no video at all.  ;(
I plan to try some of the tips I found here on the board (APCI, IRQs, AGP down to 4x, ect..) but I was just wondering if anyone else had any guesses, had heard of this before, or could point me in the right direction.
I am at work now (Still waiting for my DSL at home), so I am not positive on all my PC stats, but I do know it is a Epox Motherboard, a 8K3A, I belive, and I do have a 400 watt power supply, though I am not sure of the brand name.
Thanks to anyone who tries to give me a hand!

Isn't there a sticker on the PSU ? SOmetimes you need to unscrew the 4 screws holding it to the case and look at the other 2 sides that are blocked.
You can also consider heat, try runninc the computer with the case open and a fan directed at it.
Are there any large speakers or voltage adapters around the monitor ?

Recently my older GeForce 2 video card was fried and it had to be replaced.  When I replaced it I bougth a new GeForce 4 Ti4200  and put it in.  everything seemed to be going great until about two days after instalation it begins to give me strange video problems followed b my computer just locking up.  The video problems include long drawn out polygons, random dots and smears of coloration on the screen.  It only used to do this in Unreal Tournament 2003, However now it will just do it as I run windows aps like Word or Powerpoint.  I have done a few things to try to fix the problem,  I upgraded my power supply from 250W to the 400W one in it now,  I have reseated the card 4 times, I have tryed various driver versions, and have run the 4 in 1 Via upgrade.  Nothing is working and I am at my wits end, at this point the only thing I hope it might  be is a faulty AGP card and I could try to exchange the card for another. Please, someone please help me out here.
    Thank you

Does any body out there know if a MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU and a MSI FX5900XT 128MB DDR Video Card will work well together?

like the grayone say, is true. for more ensure, try and search the graphic cards support list for your board at MSI (Sorry cause i don,t no is  where the site located)
in my opinion, most is compability for your card, when is a AGP slot.
Except the new one like the AGP slot, call AGR( Accelaration Graphic Riser slot) that really need to find a compatibility graphic cards.....

Hi, a year ago I build my computer, a gaming PC, and everything works fine until a few days ago, exactly one year after the build, I was on mi pc when suddenly all freeze out, the video and the sound I just had to press the shutdown button, when I start the pc again it just start like 3 seconds and restart infinitely.
After a web search I start to think that the PSU was the problem but after more research looks like the motherboard was the problem so I take out the battery and put it back and start the pc.
The PC starts again, but another problem begin after that there is no video signal. The monitor doesn’t show any image I try to disconnect the Graphic card but nothing I press the button of the Motherboard to reset it but still the same I can’t solve the problem but there is more, after the PC start it stays ON like a minute and then restart again but the second time no restart anymore.
    Any suggestion ?

So now you can boot with no auto restart, but without display?
You tried with IGD (on-board display)?
Maybe try another monitor or cable,
and use only one RAM stick w/ different slots to boot.

  • I do underwater video and add still photos to the video I create. When playing the video the still shots show distorted lines in any design in the picture and as it transitions to the next photo it clears up for a split second. What is causing this?

The photos are clear for the firt instant the appear during palyback and for the 3 or 4 seconds they are on the screen any pattern or design in the photo, say a patterned tablecloth, the pattern goes wavy, distorted, and then at the last moment before moving on the photo goes clear and smooth. It looks like when the picture goes in the "freeze" mode it distorts and when releasing for the next photo it smooths out again. This is really messing up some very good underwater still shots and land photos. I'm using a transition between photos and not using Ken Burns effect. Could use some help on this. Thanks.

so. to summarize your workflwo in my own words:
you're applying 12Mpix stills to an iMovie project
(btw: what setting has the iM project…?)
    iMovie doesn't do interlaced internally…
    you then 'share to iDVD'
as far as we know, iM converts to some h.264 file…
iDVD has to convert that again, to finally create a standard DVD:
    720x480pix, interlaced = 0.3Mpixel resolution (yes, zero.point.three )
    and, you're watching via a projector - most projectors have a non-video-resolution e.g. 800x600, 1200x800:
    again, scaling effects.
so, tons of scaling/resizing, tons of comversions …
    a) use any graphic tool (your Mac's Preview.app?) to scale the pics BEFORE import to iMovie to your Projects resolution (1920x0180, 1280x720, 720x480); choose tiff or png as doemat, avoid jpg
=> this avoids lossy scaling effect in iM
    b) if DVD is your only delivery media, set iMovie's Project preferences to your TV-Standard (PAL/NTSC)
    c) from iMovie, use 'Export using Quicktime', and in its options, choose AppleIntermediateCodec as … codec
=> this exports iMovies internal timeline without lossy conversions
    d) set iDVD manually to same standard as your iMproject, 25/PAL or 30/NTSC
    e) stay under 60min of length to allow max. quality
    f) try to find a resolution on that laptop that comes close to DVDs res; synch res of laptop with proejctor
    g) consider iDVD solo to create a slideshow; avoids any lossy 'inbetween steps' due to iMovie; very limited in terms of 'creation' … creates a slideshow (with music and transitions)
    h) consider to avoid the DVD process at all; export from iMovie a 'file'; use a usb-stick to transfer to playback-computer; allows HighDef! DVD is SDef only ...
to create a file whic is compatible with any computer, follow my advice here:
How to create a video for playback with Windows/XBox/PS3/… etc?
    For maximum quality of stills, I would use iDVD only (disk, but SDef only);
or avoid disks at all, create a charming HDef iMovie project and transfer via stick

  • MSI TV tuner card and HDTV

I decided for grins to connect my Pioneer Voyager HDTV box from Timewarner Cable TV (AOL) into my MSI TV tuner card to see what kinda picture I would recieve.  Well, first I should say I am only allowed to use S-video and not the HDTV component cables (3), but it works.  Timewarner at this time only offers 10 HDTV channels and rest or either digital (DVD quality) or analog.  Some of the HDTV channels do not completely fill the screen and I have to adjust my screen to fit, but this is not to much effort.  Some HDTV channels fit the screen but are in wide screen only and not full screen, but this was still pretty cool.  I watched some of the wimbleton tennis in HDTV on my computer (awesome picture quality)
I am guessing that when HDTV becomes more popular and prices drop, that perhaps MSI might consider building a TV tuner card with HDTV outputs??

I have been seeing some amazing video using my msi TV-Tuner card (older card) and HDTV S-video inputs from my digital HDTV cable box.  I understand what SteveK is saying about how S-video is not capable of displaying 1080i, but dang it looks awesome using dscaler.  I did some searching and this guys says:
A better solution is S-video. Almost all players have s-video output. S-video looks much better than composite video, and only slightly inferior to component video. Hook an s-video cable from the player to the display (or to an A/V receiver that can switch s-video). The round, 4-pin connectors may be labelled Y/C, s-video, or S-VHS.
    Link found here:  http://www.home-theater-faq.com/whats_the_difference_between_composite_s-video_component_and_rgb_video.htm
Anyway I found some similar links that said about the same.  In any case, if anyone wants to play with the HDTV viewing using dscaler and an HDTV s-video connection, it might be of interest.

    Use the attached. TV271MH.301
To flash create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Unpack the provided archive (TV271MH.301.rar) and put the included file (TV271MH.301) on that stick.
Rename the vbios files to .rom (e.g. one to 301.rom).
Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 301.rom [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.

  • K7N2G-L Video and temps

    Gidday all
Is there any way to use the onboard video AND an AGP card at the same time? I replaced my Soltek motherboard with the MSI K7N2G. I use 2 monitors and can't get the 2 to work together on the MSI board. I have tried an nVidia 64MB AGP and a CM32 (32MB) AGP card without luck and using an 8MB PCI card in the meantime.
Maybe a dumb question - but the Soltek worked with the onboard AGP and the nVidia AGP card.
The PC alert panel shows my CPU @21 degrees and system@30 degrees.
However Sandra shows CPU@32 degrees and system@28. Is the PC Alert panel usually out by this amount?

No, when you plug a board into the AGP slot it cuts off the on board video.
    Try this Speedfan

  • MSI 745 Ultra mobo and XP 2400+ cpu problem

Well I just bought an Athlon XP 2400+ cpu as an upgrade for this computer. I am having a hard time getting it to work properly. My setup is as follows:
MSI 745 Ultra mobo (BIOS 1.6 and tried 1.5)
    AMD Athlon XP 2400+
    Samsung pc2700 memory (2x256meg sticks)
Asylum Geforce 4 Ti4600 video card
    Unknown 10/100 nic
    Maxtor 30gig HD
The first problem was, the XP 2400+ cpu was auto detected as an 1800+ running at 1.5ghz. I looked on the MSI cpu support page and it said to set the BIOS settings to 133 for the CPU FSB and 15 for the CPU Ratio. I did this (using 1.6 bios version) and the system would not boot. After some struggling I was able to get into the BIOS again. I messed with different Ratio's to lower the operating speed of the cpu. It turned out that anything I tried with the 133 FSB setting would hang the system. I looked in MSI knowledge base, it has my exact same problems listed and the recommended fix is to "upgrade" to BIOS 1.5. So, for kicks I downgraded my 1.6 BIOS to the 1.5 version. I still had the same exact problems, however, one different. When the FSB was set at 133 and Ratio at 15, for some reason the system booted but set the FSB back to 100 and the Ratio to 20 (which is not even an option in the bios). I found this information using Wincpuid once the system was booted. I really would like to get this cpu working as it should and be found as an Athlon 2400+ running at 2.0ghz. Anyone have any ideas?
Could the power supply be at fault at all? It's just a generic PS that came with the case. Maybe the 2400+ needs more power to run at the higher clock speed and FSB? My other thought is the memory. Something related to the ram maybe? TIA.
    Justin

Ok the trick is to do *not* as the MSI cpu support webpage says. The support webpage says to set the CPU FSB to 133 and the CPU Ratio (multiplier) to 15. My system would not boot this way. I set the FSB to 133 and the ratio to "H/W" and it works perfectly fine.

  • 890FXA-GD65 Video and USB Failure

    Hey guys,
After about an hour or two of gaming, my PC loses its video and USB signal, and the power buttons do not work on the case, yet everything internally is still running (all my fans, video card fan, processor heatsink fan). The row of LED indicator lights at the top of the motherboard only displays two bars AFTER I lose signal.  At first I figured it was just my video card overheating, but nothing is excessively hot to the touch, and alt-tabbing while gaming to check my AMD Vision Control Center has my video card running at about 70-75*C while in use, and about 48*C idle. Also, if overheating was the culprit, that wouldn't explain my USB devices failing either would it? And twice my PC has completely shut down on me mid-game. I noticed someone else had this problem (the video/usb portion at least), but the culprit seemed to be his ram was 1600, mine is only 1333. And I have never tweaked anything in my BIOS nor have I overclocked my video card. Any suggestions?
    MSI 890FXA-GD65
    AMD Phenom II X4 970

    Corsair 2x4GB DDR3 1333MHz (CMX8GX3M2A1333C9)
    XFX 6850 Black
    WD 750GB Caviar Black HDD

Temp. is fine for the graphics card. About the PSU "650 Watt" tells us very little, for many reasons. When it comex to Thermaltake, my own experience says they are usually over-speced and -priced, but have rather low efficiency. My system's power consumption went down from 110 to 74 Watt when I replaced my Thermaltake Toughpower.   ...But that was some time ago.
I find two current 650 W PSU models here, if it is one of them:

    Hello All...
Back after a brief absence, things look a little bit different.
I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.

Thank you for the replies.  Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems.  I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work.  I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic.  When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones.  This actually helped.  I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems.  I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac.  I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed.  Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU and S2K Bus Disconnect

    Hello
I have a MSI KT3 Ultra ARU and a AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (266 FSB version). I wonder if I have support for termal diode in both CPU and mainboard.
Is S2K Bus Disconnect and CPU HALT Command detection the same thing?

    Quote
KT3 ultra's I believe were the first boards capable of reading thermal diode inside of AMD XP (Palamino/T-bred/barton, etc) and higher cores.
Not the first, but they were up there as being among the first.  A few KT266 boards implemented the circuitry to read thermal diode.  Second or third revision boards, or new models, based on KT266A and even KM266 began implementing the thermal diode circuitry.
KT3 Ultra has thermal diode read circuit:

    what did i do wrong.

Did you update the firmware on the iPod? Supposibly if fixes a few bugs.

If you didn't then try that. Believe me your problem is not with not using that CD as I never even popped the disk in my CD drive untill after I had updated my iPod as the software was outdated before it arrived at my house.
