MSI 6178 Memory Upgrade Issue

Hi
I've recently tried installing a single stick of 128Mb PC133 RAM on to my 6178 but it only detects it as 64Mb.  All the chips are on one side of the stick.
I was hoping to flash my AMI BIOS (ver 1.9) with a Award 2.1 BIOS, but i keep getting a "The program files part number does not match with you system" message.
What am I doing wrong? Am i going about this the right way?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Jigsaw

I have the same problem with MS 6163by master. it is very difficult to find a sdram that will work good on our old pcs. I tryed so many different rams... now i have 512MB working ram. I was hope to get more but...without sucess. If you look in your book of motherboard you will find the information which rams are supported and how many chisps it must have attached on it.
Good luck !

  • HP Probook 6450b Memory upgrade issue

    Hi All,
I appear to be having a strange issue trying to upgrade the memory in a HP 6450b probook (i5-480m & ATI card). The laptop came with 2gb of p/n sps 598856-002 which is 1333mhz 1.5v ram with the manufacturer being ramaxel. I ordered and fitted a couple of 4gb kingston sticks
    http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/10473659/mfg_partno/KTH-X3BS/4G
Fitted them and all seemed to be well as the OS (win 7 32bit pro) showed the stick as 8gb recognised and 3gb usable, the bios also reports 8gb as well. However the moment a 64 bit OS (Linux or Windows) is attempted to be run the laptop just crashes or hangs
I previously attempted this upgrade with two sticks of crucial memory but had exactly the same problem, so thinking the crucial memory was the issue I returned them to the supplier and ordered the kingstons instead.
I have seen very similar issue noted here:
    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/328016-30-memory-upgrade-probook
    and
    http://superuser.com/questions/580512/hp-probook-6450b-not-booting-after-memory-upgrade
My gut instinct suggests this laptop may be very fussy about the memory chips, it may have to be a 16 chip 4gb stick as opposed to 8 chip 4gb sticks.
Any thoughts and help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    You're very welcome.
Glad the lower density memory worked for you, and now you know what to look for the next time you plan on upgrading the memory on any HP notebook made in the last 8 years or so.

  • Macbook Pro late 2008 Memory upgrade Issue

    Dear Gurus,
I have a late 2008 15" Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz  with 2 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 installed, I just brought a pair of corsair (2*4GB) DDR3 (CMSO4GX3M2A1333C9) memory upgrade and installed it in my macbook pro. I'm running OS-X Lion 10.7.1 before the upgrade now in About This Mac menu show that I have 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and everything seem to be ok only when I shutdown and power up again the boot time seem to take longer than it is with previous 2GB memory module installed, it took almost 2 minutes from the power button pushed untill my macbook display the login screen. Question: Is the Ram upgrade is OK or I need to return the Ram and get the 1066 Mhz to replace my 2 Gb Ram. How can my mac report that I have 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Ram while the system only at 1066 Mhz bus
    Best regards,

RAM will clock back to match the system bus as long as it's otherwise compatible. Reporting utilities tend to read the RAMs design speed.
    It it works, ignore it.
As for this part of your question:
only when I shutdown and power up again the boot time seem to take longer than it is with previous 2GB memory module installed, it took almost 2 minutes from the power button pushed untill my macbook display the login screen.
that's normal. The OS does a "power-in self test" or "POST" at startup that includes RAM checking. The more RAM installed, the longer the test takes. You quadrupled you RAM, so the increase in start time does not surprise me.

  • 16GB Memory upgrade issue

    Hello,
I just did a memory upgrade on my macbook pro 15-inch early 2011.
After I insert the 2 x 8GB memory cards, macbook was started OK.
Several minutes later I noticed on USB port and audio are not working anymore.
If I insert back the 2 x 2GB original memory cards, all works fine.
Do anyone have some advice on this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Ricardo.

Early 2011 models were tested with the best available RAM at the time ... 4 GB sticks.  Even last fall 8 GB sticks were $1000 for a pair.  Now it is inexpensive enough for us common-folk to buy it.  But that "it seems to work" only underscores the need for fully compatible RAM.
As to correct specs, just let crucial or macsales guide you by model/year.  They try very hard to be Mac-compatible and only sell what they are willing to stand behind.

  • 15-inch Mid-2010 memory upgrade issues

    Hi,
I have a 15-inch mid-2010 MBP running Mountain Lion, that I upgraded from 4 to 8 Gb of memory in Sept. 2012. The memory i purchased was a 2x4 gb set of Corsair Value rated at 1333 MHz. The upgrade went smooth, and i did not have any problems for a few months.
Then late in december or early in january, I had a few Kernel Panics. I didn't think too much of it, as I was busy with exams, and thought it might be a software issue or something, maybe related to VMware Fusion. The KP's started getting a bit more frequent, and suddenly one day the machine wouldn't boot at all, it just KP's at the Apple logo and then goes in a loop. I now suspected a memory problem, as my experience tells me that this is a usual cause of KP's.
I started fiddling with the memory sticks, and determined that one of the blocks would boot, so i went to the place i bought the set and talked to them. They agreed that the one block was probably faulty, and replaced my memory with a 2x4 Gb set of Corsair Mac Memory. This is 1066 MHz CL7, and should be compatible with MB,MBP and iMac, according to the packaging. The problem is that the machine will not boot with this memory either. It just goes for the same loop and KP's at the Apple logo. I can't even get this to boot with one stick in the machine, so it's arguably worse.
The machine works well with the original memory, It's been a rock solid main machine with 4Gb of ram for about a month now.
I tried PRAM and SMC reset to no avail. I tried booting into boot camp with the new memory, but it just never seems to load Windows. This also works with the old memory.
I'm a bit lost as to what i should try next. I suspect it's a problem with the Logic Board, i just don't see how, seeing as it used to work with 8 Gb, and that it still works with 4 Gb.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated

So, i've played around with things a bit more. 4 gigs of ram is still rock solid. I've had the memory in a friends computer, an HP PC, where it works just fine.
Also, the computer starts up fine in fail safe mode if i hold down shift during boot, but that's no way to live.
I should probably have mentioned in my first post that I have replaced my optical drive with a 64 gb SSD that i boot OS X from. Since Windows does not start up either, and i've had that part of the setup for about two years, I wouldn't think that is the problem.
The computer has been running 15 passes of Rember this night, and was still running when i got up, so it's clearly not entirely broken.
    Any suggestions?

  • MS-6183 Memory Upgrade Issues

Help, I am upgrading a PC for a friend and have replaced the standard 128Mb PC100 ram with a matched pair of 256Mb PC133 DIMMs but the PC refuses to see any more than 128Mb. I have flashed the BIOS to 1.7 without any difference.
Is there a setting in the BIOS or Jumper that restricts the memory available?
    Cheers.

So each one alone is 128MB and also both of them together are 128MB ?
    Try clearing the CMOS then.

  • IMac G3 600 memory upgrade issue

I have just acquired a Snow iMac 600mhz, currently using 256mb RAM (one stick). I want to install a 512mb stick in the open slot, but the computer won't start with it installed. I have upgraded the Firmware to 4.1.9, and the RAM is known good in another computer. It was purchased from OWC, and I have confirmed that the specs of the RAM match the specs set forth by Apple. I don't know what else I can do. I have attempted rudimentary things, like trying to reset the PRAM (not successful, since when restarting after the RAM install, it only beeps/bongs and sits there). I am looking for alternative reasons/solutions for this problem.
I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks!

Logical question. It was very well seated in the slot. It is PC100 CL2 168-pin 3.3v 64 bit SDRAM. I assure you it is the correct RAM. And I tried it in another iMac--a friend's 500mhz Snow iMac. It worked.
As stated above, I confirmed that the firmware is up to date. I am uncertain of what else I can do. If I install just the 512 stick, all I get at startup is that little beep--no HD spinup, nothing. If I leave the existing 256 meg stick in the "first" slot, and put the 512 in the "second" slot, I get the startup sound, and then nothing else--no HD spinup, nothing. I don't know what other recourse I have. I want to make this work, but wanting something doesn't make it happen...

  • HP Pavilion p7-1414 memory upgrade issues

I just purchased a HP Pavilion p7-1414 desktop. This system has an AMD A8 processor and supports up to 32gb ram. I recently purchased a new 8GB stick of Kingston KHX16C10B1R/8 1600MHZ DDR3 NON-ECC HYPER X BLUE. This memory will only clock 1333MHZ no matter what slot I install it in. This machine has 4-memory expansion slots. The machine runs fine but the memory will not clock up to advertised speed.
Any input is appreciated. The memory in brand new. I also have 2 new 4MB sticks of Kingston ddr3 1600MHZ memory and they both clock fine @ 1600MHZ.
    Thanks!

It seems likely that the HPSA isn't reading the information correctly.
If the BIOS shows the correct reading and passes the memory test, I would say that it's operating normally.

  • MSI GT72 memory upgrade/dual channel question

I just recently purchased a GT72 2QD laptop which has 12GB of ram installed (with 1x4GB module and 1x8GB module). The RAM is shown as running in dual channel, but it is asynchronous and I'm getting inconsistent memory bandwidth results when testing bandwidth with AIDA64. My question is, would I be able to buy an additional 4GB and 8GB module (I'm looking at the Kingston value ram), put them in the two free RAM slots inside the chasis and run the RAM in synchronous dual channel mode? If so, which slots should I put each module in to get the ram to run in proper dual channel mode? I would appreciate any help y'all can give me.

hope this information will help you...
    http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-011965.htm?switch=tw#flex
    quoted from Intel website above:
    Rules to enable dual-channel mode
To achieve dual-channel mode, the following conditions must be met:
Same memory size. Examples: 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB.
Matched DIMM configuration in each channel
    Matched in symmetrical memory slots
Configurations that do not match the above conditions revert to single-channel mode. The following conditions do not need to be met:
    Same brand
    Same timing specifications
    Same speed (MHz)
The slowest DIMM module populated in the system decides memory channel speed.

  • Mainstage 2: Apparent issues after memory upgrade

I'm wondering if upgrading from 4GB to 8 has caused some problems. After installing the proper memory upgrade (Crucial) I've had this result:
    1. The increased memory shows up in 'About this Mac'. So far so good.
    2. When I open a large Mainstage concert that used to show the RAM usage as very high, the RAM bar does not really look any shorter. This surprised me. I expected all sorts of headroom there that I'm not seeing. Disappointing.
    3. This is the real problem: more often than not, when I go to save a concert, I get the horizontal progress bar... forever. It will simply not save. Eventually I force quit it, and end up with an autosave version. This is a real problem.
    4. Another, lesser, new thing is that there have been occasional, sporadic display glitches. Sometimes a Patch name will be all scrambly, or I'll open an software instrument to edit and just get a white box in the shape of the window.
I guess my question is: although I'm indeed seeing 8GB RAM instead of 4, could there be an issue with the memory that might cause this? Any ideas as to how to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated.
    Mainstage 2.1.3
    OS 10.6.6
MacBook Pro 2 GHz Intel Core i7
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3

That did it, thanks. I think I had read about that a while ago, and forgotten entirely. Everything seems to be as it should.
This is not the frst time you've helped me out, Blue. Thanks again.

  • Memory upgrade fail - Kernel panic after put old memories back

I People, this is my first post here and unfortunately is to report a problem, not to help friends.
I did an memory upgrade last weekend. After this, he will not boot normally, only in safe mode.
I discovered that they sent me 1333Mhz memories, and my mac (mid 2009) supports only 1066Mhz.
I put the old memories again, however I believe that the system did not recognize.
As you can see below, the system recognizes two modules:
    Memory Module: BANK 0/DIMM0, 4 GB, DDR3, 1067 MHz, 0x80CE, 0x4D34373142353237334448302D4348392020

    It is not true, I' using now 2 x 2GB, DDR3, 1067 Mhz (stock)
I tried to reinstall the system, but when I try, I got crash again.
how can I solve this issue?

    Hi BGreg,
I already reset the PRAM as you said.
I've cleaned the memory modules as indicated by Linc above.
Today I formatted my harddrive to try a clean install, but system crashs after 5%, 10%.
There is something making me worried:
In one of my tries, I opened the system view to check my actual hardware configuration, and to my surprise, the system shows me 8GB installed. Cannot be. I have 2 x 2GB.
Where my system stores this information? There is a way to reset it? I tried last hour install the snow leopard, that cames with my mac, by DVD, but does not worked too.
    Thank you all so far.
    Giuliano

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro L40-15d

    Hi
I have Satellite Pro L40-15d with 512 memory (Samsung) but I wont upgrade to 1GB. I have Kingston ktt667d2/1g I have tray to put in to both slots but nothing work I cant switch on computer.
But when I change for old one laptop is ok. What can I do? Install special program or update BIOS or maybe the memory stick is broken.
    Regards

    Hi
    The notebook doesnt boot after the memory upgrade due to these different issues;
    - memory modules are not compatible together
    - memory modules are not compatible with the notebook
    - memory modules are faulty
    - one of memory slots is faulty
In most case the memory module replacement helps.
One hint; did you try to switch the memory modules in the slots? Sometimes this helps.
Several weeks ago I have updated my memory and the notebook didnt boot.
I thought its a memory malfunction but after module switching the notebook booted correctly.
    Good luck

  • MS 7309 Memory Upgrade

I have a question regarding a memory upgrade for the MS 7309 (K9)motherboard;  A60 BIOS, Upgraded to 800Mhz DDR2 memory from 5400, with WinXp OS.   I am experiencing system stability problems with both 2 Gb sticks installed,  the system is stable on one stick, total upgrade 4GB.  There was initially only 2Gb, 5400 installed.
Should I overclock my system or update the BIOS?  And if I need to overclock is there a process or utility to use to do this.  The currently installed overclocking center utility does not work, is there an updated one?

To figure out what bios version you have, >>use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<. After starting the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher it will automatically detect your board's current bios and save the details in a file on your desktop called MSIHQ_INFO.txt. There you can read up the exact bios version. You can quote this details here to make it easier for others to help you[/b]

  • Memory leak issue on Blackberry Torch 9860

I own a Blackberry Torch 9860 Os 7.0 Bundle 1465 for the last 5 months
Previously I had Blackberry Curve 9300 which I had upgraded to OS 6.0. It had memory leak issues wherein my application memory would gradually dropdown to merely KBs within a few days and I had to reboot it to restore the same.
When I purchased Torch 9860, I migrated my device settings from Curve to Torch using the Desktop Manager. I face the same memory leak issues in this new device as well. I have 3 email accounts configured on my device and some social networking applications which include facebook, twitter, and some messengers. I usually delete my emails and keep only a few useful mails for reference. Still I am facing this issue wherein I have to reboot my device to restore the application memory. It starts from 152 Mb and usually dropsdown to merely Kilobytes of memory. The phone freezes for around 1-2 minutes sometimes when I am on call, or accessing my contacts.
Also to let you know that I have a 8GB memory card on my phone which has around 1.6 GB free space. I have disabled Compression on my memory card as well.
Please advise as I am having a hard time using this time this way.

  • MacbookPro will not wake up from sleep after memory upgrade

I am restarting this topic as I have read thread after thread (many years old) and they all just die off with out any definite solution.
I have a 13" Mid 2010 Mac book Pro which originally came with 250gb HDD and 4gb memory
I have recently upgraded to a 256 SSD and a 1TB HDD optidrive replacement along with a 8GB memory upgrade and I am now running Lion 10.7.4
If I close the lid and open within approximately 1 minute it will wake up quickly as normal, if I leave it asleep for a minute or 2 it will not wake up with out holding the power button for several seconds and then I still need to wait a several seconds for it to respond and actually wake up. Sometimes I will need to completely shut down and restart. If I wanted a computer that takes forever to wake up I would have a PC!
The last thing I upgraded was the memory so I am sure it is the cause of the sleep problem and not the SSD conversion which was working fine with the original 4GB mem before upgrade.
I have read about resting the PRAM, resetting PMC as well as executing a line in the terminal, but all of these seem to have variable success. I have tried every thing but using the terminal to adjust the hibernate mode setting as I am not proficient with terminal and don't actually understand what changing this setting does (sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 7).
Has anyone resolved this sleep problem and what did you do? I would greatly appreciate some knowledgeable insight on the hibernation settings, and what running the line in the terminal is actually doing... even better what is the default so I can change it back if it doesn't resolve the problem.
A simple memory upgrade causing such a issues is very irritating.... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

But still, the sleep issue persists, so it is a more subtle timing issue. I upgraded my MBP with a Corsair 8GB kit ( http://www.corsair.com/us/corsair-mac-memory-8gb-ddr3-sodimm-memory-kit-cmsa8gx3 m2a1333c9.html ) and it indicated it had 9-9-9-24 CAS timing. It has worked flawlessly till now. Note that my Mac is a Late 2011, whose memory runs at 1333 MHz.
As far as I can tell, the 13" Mid 2010 models used 1067 MHz memory with 7-7-7-20 CAS timing: http://www.corsair.com/us/corsair-mac-memory-8gb-dual-channel-ddr3-sodimm-memory -kit-cmsa8gx3m2a106c7.html
