Msi-6701

My computer tech:
2,4 Intel Celeron (S478??)
768 mb ram DDR-SDRAM (333 mhz)
Geforce mx440 SE (128 mb ram)
MS-6701 Motherboard
Input max: AC 230-240V~3A 50Hz
It's a medion computer ... and i am wondering if i could get myself a new 3,0 ghz Pentium 4 (533)
Below is the processor i am planning on buying if it will work on my computer.
http://propc.e-butik.se/show_product.asp?artnr=dclp2&ref=%2Fshow%5Fcategory%2Easp%3Fcategory%3D35%26subcategory%3D31
All help is really appreciated

It´s an oem board ( medion computers) and not listed amongs the other MSI mainboard models.
There is no 3.0ghz / 533mhz cpu - only 3,06Ghz / 533mhz cpu.
You cannot use any 800mhz Northwood or Prescott cpu or 533mhz CeleronD cpu´s
http://processorfinder.intel.com/scripts/list.asp?ProcFam=483&NoNav=NO&CorSpd=ALL&SysBusSpd=5419&MfgTech=ALL&step=ALL&cache=ALL&PkgType=ALL&btnFOS=Filter+on+selections
Use only 2,8Ghz or 3,06 / 533mhz / 512cache Northwood CPU for 478 socket,  if you want something better then you have today.
This is max speed for your motherboard.
I would recommend a 2,8Ghz/533 Northwood cpu ( which is supported according to the manual for Medion md-5000 xxxx-series with MSI 6701 MB)
and it´s some cheaper then the 3,06Ghz with HT.
The hard thing is to find them - Good old 533mhz Northwood cpu´s are beginning to be rare ( look for used one´s as well ?)
Celeron 2,8Ghz /400mhz may still be found, but then you don´t get no big differans peformance boost from what you´ve got.
If you want to confirm, check their website http://www1.medion.com/se/

  • MSI-6701 in Medion-pc without proper slot

    Dear MSI and other participants,
I bought a Medion-pc some time ago, containing a MSI 6701 mainboard with a SiS 848 and 963 chipset, and I want to upgrade to a P4 2,8 Ghz-processor. There's only one big issue: Medion took the original slot out, and replaced it with another one, so they could install their own cooling system (which doesn't work very well). This means I can't install the fan & cooling that comes with a boxed slot 478-processor, since the fan doesn't have any brackets to click into, like it should.
Is there any chance of getting or buying an original slot that comes with a socket 478-processor mainboard? Medion attached their slot only with some screws, so mounting a new one shouldn't be any problem.
Thanx for any reply in advance!

You can try asking any 2nd hand shop dealers who'll definately have some dead mobos laying around to se if they are willing to sell just the bracket out but let me remind you again that all these mods are at your own risk as neither MSI nor Medion nor me nor the person selling you the bracket is going to bear any responsibilty of whatsoever that's going to happen if you happened to spoil your mobo in anyways.

  • [Other 865 Series] Medion Card Reader with MSI 865gm3ls board

    Hi
Recently got this board to replace a faulty Medion MD5000 board (had a MSI 6701 in).  Everything working fine with a Prescott 3.0ghz CPU, but I was wondering if there was a way to connect the Medion's card reader to the board? On the Medion it connects to JUSB1, but on the new Medion board, there is a JUSB1 and JUSB2 and the cable to connect is for 18pins on the Medion.  Any ideas guys?
    Cheers.

Tough one.... one USB port actually only takes 4 pins = VCC, D-, D+, GND. So you need to figure out what those 18pins are. Any additional LEDs? or anything? So this requires some reverse engineering. Get a multimeter and start reverse engineering! Good luck!

  • MS6701 running in Pl0 mode not DMA

    P4 2.66,MSI 6701 v1.14,Phoenix 6.00PG  9/11/02
Hi my machine has suddenly started running slowly, the C drive(seagateST3120023a)is running in Pl0 mode, and won't return to DMA,seagate think it may be corrupted Bus master drivers, does anyone know how to correct this, any help would be most obliged, thanks

I had this problem once with my DVD-ROM drive. Apparently the cause could highly be caused due to broken pins on the HDD. Broken pins may cause the HDD to run at PIO or to not run at all. If the pins are actually broken it is best to replace the drive. To make sure, try inserting another to check if it runs on DMA mode. Please notify me if you have managed to solve this problem.

  • GF4 Ti4200/Vivo - Video capture pauses

    Hi All,
Did a search and could not find anything on this topic.
When capturing video from S-Video input, the video is not smooth.  Getting momentary 'pauses' that leads to very jerky video on playback.  I've checked the 'smooth video' option, but to no avail.
    System specs:
    MSI (oem'd Medion) MS-8889 GF4 TI4200 128MB Video card
    P4 2.66 CPU
    768M PC2700 DDR
    120GB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM ATA133
Original Shipped drivers for Video and WDM Capture (30.30 Video and 1.1 WDM)
    Any help would be appreciated.
    TIA,
    SteveK

Well, I tried capturing with Virtualdub and it works much better (no pauses or stutters).  But there is a fairly large number of dropped frames (about 20% dropped).
I've taken all of the standard steps to avoid dropped frames....no network access (no netowrk plugged in), no TSRs running, no antivirus, running with DMA enabled, hard disk is de-fragged (although I am running with a single hdd partitioned into 3 logical drives.  CPU is a P4-2.66Mhz, so there's plenty of horsepower.  The video card is an MSI-8889 (GF4 TI4200 8x w/128MB) ViVo. O/S is XP.  Mobo is an MSI-6701 (SiS Chipset).
I believe the Vivo is stricly software capture, so the results are directly related to the software used for capture.
Can anyone recommend (or use) another capture product for this type of card (with good results)?
    TIA,
    SteveK

Put the network daemon just after pcmcia because it may be needed by netfs but it may need hotplug modules or pcmcia modules.
    Thanks, I will try that!
What's the vendor and name of the network card you use ? Perhaps you could google around to see if a more recent driver/module has been made for that product...
It is an onboard network card, SIS900.
I have a MSI 6701 board, I believe made specific for Medion. Perhaps they did not deliver the perfect board. I had problems with the USB 2.0 ports on the mainboard, that did not work the way they should (bought a new card for  that).  But then again, I have only had problems with the network card running Archlinux. I will try the change in settings first. Perhaps that gives the network card just enough rest to perform correct.
    I will keep you informed.
    Thanks jerem!

  • Mainboard : MSI MS-6701 (Medion OEM)

Hello, I'am French girl and It's difficult to write a good English message.
    Anyway, I'm going to try.
I have a old PC, but it's do work correctly.
My problem is to know if I have to change my mainboard or a part of them or just a driver.
This mainboard with Intel   NetBurst and audio card integrated. That one is defective (bad sound)
    Identifiant :    02/22/2003-SiS-648-6A7I0M4MC-00
I didn't find a driver to expective repair on the MSI ' site : Is that somewere ?
Do you think I can change the sound card without mainboard ?
I hope to find a solution.
Thanks to your councils and if you can tell me where I must to go to find help.

As your board is oem it is not supported in this forum. Best to contact Medion.
If you have no luck with a driver or the sound is not working the easiest thing to do is get a PCI sound card. They are not expensive. You just have to uninstall the onboard sound and disable onboard sound in the BIOS setup before plugging in the new sound card in a free PCI slot.

  • USB problems in 6701 mainboard

Hello, I have a  msi ms 6701 motherboard and i have a problem in the USB ports, testing pc with pc-doctor utility  in the usb text it gives a series of mistakes, for example:
HC current control ED register invalid, or HC bulk current ED register invalid
is possible that the motherboard is damaged?

Please clear cmos and load defaults in the bios. Then check whether the USB controller has been enabled in the bios. After you enter OS, then please check whether in the device manager, there is "!" or "?" on the USB controlller, if there is, then please uninstall the USB drivers and reinstall. Thirdly, please check whether your USB device itself needs drivers.

  • MS 6701 MEDION and HD over 130 problems..

Sorry at begin for my English..
I've a 6701 Motherboard on my old Medion PC. I have some problems with the original HD, a seagate 80, so I have take a new HD, an Hitachi 164.
But I can't format it over 131 M, this it's the only one possiblity when I go to start a new XP installation.. (the 130 mega format whorks fine.. but the disk it's a 164..)
I've read  here some other guys with a similar problem, but not for the first disk. With MSI on line I've the last bios on my board but this don't solve my problem.
What I have to do ?

SpinneR, I don't know about this board - 6701. Can you tell what processor you're using, what RAM, what chipset is on the board? Then this could give a hint whether this board can support large LBA for HDD or not.
    Many tnx for the reply.
    My processor it's a P4 2400 Mhz with 768 RAM and chipset .. I dont know.. (sorry for the M it,s 131 GB..)
I've XP installation disk 1st edition, so I think it's limited to 131 GB only.. A good idea to make a bakup installer .. it's new for me, but I can test this possibility.  Tnx for all !!
The PC world it's alwais complicated by these absurde limitations..

  • Ms-6701

i recently bought a Medion Pc and found that i didn't know who made the motherboard but i found out the it was an MSI from the model (MS-6701) and i cant find drivers for the motherboard on the msi site dose any else have the same problem as me and could someone please tell me where i can get some drivers and bios update for the board the chipset is SIS 648 SIS 963
    Thanx X(

You should be able to get the chipset drivers from SIS's website. BIOS updates are available at Medion's website, I think. You'll probably have to E-Mail them and find out what model number they use for that board. Hope that helps. http://www.medion.com
    Edited:
May not even be the same company. I could find several MSI boards listed on Medion's Germany website, but not that one. Oh Well.

  • Searching for model MS-6701

hi i am searching for updates for the MS-6701 it was a OEM for a aldi pc namen medion 8008 but i want to unlock the cpu settings (bios) and to update real time.
help me ore give me some hints :D
    btw MSI rocks   8)

    No Problem, glad to help!
but again this could have been handled better by Medion. The motherboard manual should have been included with the pc. Really does it cost that much? Or if they were worried about printing cost's they could just have included the .pdf file on the recovery disk with all the other files.
    This puter still rocks btw. P4/2.66ghz, 533mhz. fsb, 256mb DDR 333 2700 sdram(i've since added 512mb),Seagate 120MB Barracuda V HDD(a top of their line drive)Nvidia Gforce 4 AGP8X TI 4200 video card w/128mb ram, Sony 48X12X8 CDRW and a 16X4X8 Lite-on DVD drive, onboard sound and I added a Mitsumi 3.5 floppy drive.
All that for $699!! Using price watch.com and Dalco electronics I priced out the computer as if I was going to assemble myself. Including the cost of a copy of MS XP, the cheapest I could have built this computer myself was $847.00(this doesn't count shipping!) and my price via Dalco.com was around $1054.00(again not counting shipping charges!) Freakin incredible!!
I've always' built my own desktop units. But this has all the components I would have selected, already assembled for less than I could have done it!

Can anybody show me a source, where to find an update for my board ?

    MS-6701
    Well, well, hmmm,   :]
What a search it makes me  ...  ;(
I guess i have found something on the Medion site
    though its German...
This update should be an upgrade of a Medion Pc called 8008 with an MD 5000 Motherboard. This indication for their Motherboard is the MS-6701 from MSI!!   :D
In the download is an instruction readme8k.txt in German and in english included.
This BIOS version should be a Phoenix-Award BIOS v6.00g
with the MEDION OEM v.2.12 date 04.03.2003 the former one was v2.09 date 01.22.2003
