MSI 6800gt problems

Last week i baught a MSI 6800gt to replace my old mx440. All was going well for the first day however when i went to play any games or anything the next day my computer would crash( this appears to be a result of the screen resolution changing). I got the latest drivers off the msi site which didnt fix it so i got the lates ones from the nvidia website which had no effect either. I also did a compelte re-install of windows but it did nothing.
When i first put the card in i could run all the 3dmark03 tests however now it gets to the cpu tests and displays an error message(cant rermember the exact message). Also I cant load up any farcry levels( computer restarts its self) and in brothers in arms if i try to change the screen resolution it either turns my monitor off and i cant turn it back on without restsrting or makes the screen flicker black and orange. If i do manage to get the game to run when i exit out windows stays on the same resolution as i was playing and if i try to change it it tells me i have to restart the computer.
Can anyone help me. Did i get a dodgy card? or does it have compatiblity issues with my motherboard? im fresh out of ideas

Im now running a new motherboard - ABIT NF7-S not that this has helped matters. This involved formatting and re-installing windows, with the latest nforce drivers and graphics drivers(v71.89) all was good for the first time i ran my computer but after re-booting it was back to its same old problems.
I tryed my card in my mates computer (A64 3500+, 1Gig Geil RAM, Antec True480 PSU) who also has a MSI 6800GT which worked fine with both mine and his cards. His card however wouldnt work in my computer. After putting the card back into my computer i disconnected my 2nd HDD, Case fans and Hardcano, put my CPU back to stock settings, and pulled out my VT and network cards,  all of which had no effect. This is driving me up the wall, all i want to do is to be able to play Farcry and HL2 and it wont work Interestingly enough i can play DX7 games with no issues however it appears that anything using DX8 or 9 wont work. HL2 turns my monitor off and farcry restarts my computer. I have even tryed changing resolutions and refresh rates of my monitor (Samsung 753DFX) not that it made any difference.
If anyone is having similar problems and managed to fix them can you let me know how.

  • MSI 6800GT-T2D256E and power problem?

I've got ASUS A8N-Deluxe mobo, Nexus 400W PU and new, bright and shiny MSI 6800GT-T2D256E
    And I get the damned:
"The NVIDIA system sentinel is reporting that the nvidia powered graphics card is not receiving sufficient power. To protect your hardware from potential damage or causing a potential system lockup, the graphics processor has lowered its performance to a level that allows continued safe operations."
    message...
Tried diffrent lines from PU, different drivers, nothing. I get the message right after login.
One funny little thing: there's a sticker on the power cable that came with the card (close to the 2x3 connector) that says:
For use with RADEON X800 series graphics card only.
Could this be the problem or are the pwr cables the same for 6800's and X800's? Card works the same with or without pwr cable.
Looking from the left side of an open case (w cable attced to the card) there are two wires going into the leftmost holes of the 2x3 connector - yellow (top) and black (bottom).

I have 20pin and 4 pin pwr connectors connected to the mobo.
    Any ideas?

    Update:
Tried HEC 475W psu - didn't help. Went back to the store, they tested the card and it seemed to run just fine.
So it's not the card nor the power cord problem. Guys at the strore said - get better psu. But I've tried better psu?!
So I threw out everything exept HDD - no luck.
This brings me to another question. I keep noticing peaple talking not just about watts but amps. My Nexus and that
HEC I tested produce 14 and 15 amps respectively.
Sadly in a small country stores don't keep expensive psu's on they shells. So I should order one. I want to be sure before that.
Any comments on the amperage issue?

    antonio_zth,
MSI sells over a million Vid Cards a Month. There were a total of 350 vid cards with the wrong Pipelines and Vertex Units. I had one of them, so that only leaves 349 of them out there. By now all the Vid Cards in question should have been sent in to MSI and swapped out.
I would run Riva Tuner and see how many Pipelines and Vertex Units your Vid Card, if you have 16 Pipelines and 6 Vertex Units, then you have the correct card.

  • MSI 6800GT

a have a NX 6800GT-T2D256E that looks not like the other MSI 6800GT-T2D256E... on the MSI site is the VGA colored red, and has a big red cooler... But my 6800GT is greed and looks like a NVIDIA 6800GT reference card.. ??? is it a fake 6800GT one?

That copper cooler has one huge draw back... it uses thermal pads for the memory cooling, -AND- the GPU temp overheats the memory, because of the ONE LARGE sink design... I think... I have noticed more and more of these red PCB MSI 6800GTs with this cooler and no one seems to get above 1070 or so on the memory... I am so going to go with the new Vantech or Logisys VGA copper cooler and ram-sinks for this... this is a good card! it's got Samsung memory on it and my cards don't OC worth anything... and I think it's this cooler... also, the mosfets have a large thermal pad between them and the copper sink on my cards... and they run HOT... I can't help but to think that is not the best way to make good use of that copper cooler... thermal pads are just not great heat conductors...  hmmm... well, anyways...  I am thinking about stripping the coolers off of my PNY 6800GT and trying them on my MSI... it's got the reference cooler on it... and it OC's like a BEAST. lol.
I was alll psyched that this copper cooler would be awesome... but am pretty bummed that it's got thermal pads...and it's noisy as hell at the all but the fastest fan speed. what is up with that.  wow... anyways.  I hope others have having better luck with these cards than I am.

         MSI motherboard problems
    « on: 17 November 2004, 06:34:44 am »
I just recently built a computer.
When I turn the computer on it stops at the MSI Platinum screen.
When I hit the reset button the computer reboots into windows. (Most of the times)
    I am not over clocking.
I have loaded the defaults in the BIOS.
I have flashed the BIOS, updated all motherboard drivers, and video drivers.
I have run memtest 23 passes and no errors.
I have a thermaltake power supply 400 watts.
There are no beeps codes at post. The case didn't come with a speaker.
I have installed windows xp media center twice.
Could this just be an unresolved Bios issue or a bad board?
The computer runs great except for the startup problem.
    Any suggestion would be helpful.

Try stripping down your system to bare minimum. Disconnect all CD drives, Floppy and HDD from your mainboard. Remove all un-needed cards. So you should have only the mainboard, CPU and RAM and a graphics card. Connect PSU to mainboard and power up. Now your PSU should be more than enough to power just that. Does it still lock???
If it does'nt then it something to do with one of the drives or optional cards you are fitting.
If it  does still lock then it something to do with the main components.
I once saw a similar issue to this which maybe unrelated but thats why i asked you to disconnect drives. The issue i saw was down to the HDD not being detected on cold boot. Thus hanging the system, if you left it long enough it carried on and then failed to boot. But press the reset button and it would detect the HDD and load windows, until you switched the PC off again and the cycle would repeat. Now that was fixed by getting a BIOS update. This may not having anything to do with your issue but might be worth a look trying what i said above.

  • Counterfeit MSI 6800GT?

    Hello,
I ordered an MSI 6800GT with 2 DVI ports from Tekheads.co.uk a couple weeks ago.  I received the card in a retail box, and it looked just like the design on the box, and on the MSI webpage.  After using it for a couple days it was apparent that there was a fault in the card.  I would get crazy texture/graphical corruption after a few minutes of normal use in many games.
I returned the card to Tekheads, and they finally got around to testing it and I was issued a replacement which arrived today.  What they did was take the exact same box that I sent back to them, and they put in a new card which has an Nvidia reference design cooler on it.
I immediately thought they had just thrown in any old 6800GT in there and hoped I wouldn't notice or wouldn't care.  I've contacted Tekheads and they say the card was received as a replacement from MSI directly.
Is there any truth to this or is Tekheads full of ?  Truth or not, I'm not happy with getting this reference design cooler over MSI's all copper solution.
    Thanks,
    Adrian

  • K8N neo4 platinum /sli & msi 6800gt video card problem.... urgent help!!!!

I simply can't get the video card to work in the firts PCI-E port, however if the card is in the second port it works fine without the D-bracket locking the PC. Does someone know why this happened?, is the motherboard damaged?, or is there a solution to this problem?
Note: D-bracket is indicating a Memory detection test problem, but as
I said if the Video card is in the second PCI-e port the PC works fine
Plase help does someone knows why this is happening?

Could you add the list of your components to your signature (e.g. power suppy, memory, etc).
I am assuming that the SLI connector card is firmly in place and set for non-SLI operation and
that the video card only works when inserted into the slot that what would normally be used
by a second SLI video card.   Is this correct?
Have you tried resetting your BIOS?

  • GF 6800GT problem? - freezes in game+stream

hey all, you are my last resort to solve a irritating problem...
During the last few months, i'm having freezes while playing world of warcraft. The screen just freezes, i can't give input of any kind, and this for a few seconds. Sound goes on as normal (most of the times). After a few seconds, it continues as nothing had happend, except of course, that since it's an online game, i'm usually dead by then. Also video streaming freezes, though less obvious. When playing a video stream (like from youtube.com), the first time i play it, it freezes every few seconds. I know it's already fully downloaded (i thought it was my connection that couldn't keep up first), but when i try it with the "downloaded bar" complete, it's just the same.
    my comp:
    - AMD Athlon 64 3500+
    - MSI K8N Neo2 deluxe mobo
    - MSI GF 6800GT
    - 1 gb DDR2
    - 36gb raptor HD + 120Gb normal HD
    - MS Windows XP home edition (legal ofc)
    What i've tried:
    - updating drivers for mobo, sound, nvidia,...
    - updating windows
    - reinstalled windows
    - set my graph card latency to 64 with some tool i found online while looking for solution. It was recommended to try it, so i did... to no result
    - installed nvidia monitor. While playing, i had some freezes, then checked afterwards: no problems registered. Temperature went up to 60-70°C, no warnings or problems. Voltage: CPU 1.5000 V - Mem 2.7000 V - AGP 1.5000 V
As far as i know, i did nothing to trigger this. I did not overclock. Didn't wash my mainboard with water or something... no beer spilled... I'm running out of ideas to try, so any suggestion at all would be welcome! Thanks in advance

i let orthos test my machine for almost 3 hours, didn't seem to find any errors, so...
i copy-pasted the report. i think that we can decide that the temp is not the problem here... so basically, what's left? it's not temp, probably not too little psu, maybe too much? Is that possible? And what can i do about it?
I know there must be a solution, and i know it's close... now just reach out and grab it please

Beta 2 is real, slow and you have alot of updates to DL, but both are pre-release products and will not work 100%.
Even when Vista is released, they will still be alot of hardware that will not work 100% and this is purely because software is always playing catch up to hardware.

  • Wireless Router MSI RG60SE - Problem With Firmware

Hi, I have firmware 3.5.3 on my router MSI RG60SE. I updated this firmware to other version from here:
    h t t p://faenl.msi.com/index.php?dir=Networking/RG60SE/
Problem is, that I dont know, what kind of firmware is it. When I finish updatig firmware, I dont connet to admin mode, I dont see wifi network of router. Router is maybe broken.
I am affraid, that the firmware is some special kind of firmware. Because in one of .rar files, which are including of the firmware web (h t t p://faenl.msi.com/index.php?dir=Networking/RG60SE/firmware/), contain picture. On the picture is depicted print screen from admin mode of the router RG60SE and there is available option ENABLE BRIDGES. In old firmware this option I never seen. Here is a picture with these option:

Please, advise me, what am I doing with it. Because, none of my devices cant connect. And I dont know connect to admin mode of router. Thanks

No idea why it blocks it.
Silly is that it does work upto the last trace.
Have you tried a ping with a larger byte size?
You do know that ping is working with extreme small blocks by default.
I just noticed Google refuses to accept large packets!
Have you tried other routes except Google?

  • MSI RG54GS2 - problem with print server

    Hi,
I have router MSI RG54GS2. Everything works correctly. If I connect printer to USB on router then my router works only 10 hours and then it freezes. If printer is not connected, router works fine without freezing.
I tried to use new firmware, but it doesn't solve my problem.
    What should I do, please?

So, I tried it. Router works correctly without freezing but only via cable :( . If I try to connect via WiFi to my NETWORK, then my notebook and PDA find SSID and that's all. Widows show formular that everithing is connected correctly, but internet and lan network doesn't work. If I disconnected PRITER from router, then noteebok and PDA could connect to internet and local network.
:( I have only trouble with this router :> .
