MSI 7030 MOBO fried board?

I just built a msi 7030 with a brand new athlon 64 cpu, it was working great, I powered off the unit from the rocker switch on the psu, moved the case on top of my batt backup/ups  (space issues), when I powered it back on via rocker switch I got a small zap, sys wont boot or post (no err beeps), I have chked the mem, vid, and installed a backup cpu still nothing, I was not in the case when I got shocked, but my first guess was fried cpu, but so far all chks out, I don’t have a backup board to cross chk the cpu, could I have fried the bios? Only time I have ever had a problem with bios (not this board) but was during flash, it has not shocked me since and sys pwrs on fine, just get a “no vid” on screen
thanks

  • Fixed my MSI 7030 Dead Motherboard

I downloaded winflash from ECS motherboards and hotflashed the MSI 7030 BIOS in my ASUS A7N8X motherboard under Windows.  The DOS flash program from MSI locked up on my ASUS board but the winflash from ECS worked.  Got the ECS link from wimsbios page.  Note: I did not try any other version of winflash.  Just for good luck I used the MSI provided DOS flash and reflashed bootblock and all after I placed the BIOS back in the MSI 7030.  I set my timings to 2T so I am less unhappy now.
I was going to try this using my MSI 645 Ultra but the voltage and capacity did not match.
I need to verify the nvmac address is correct now and finish it up.  Oh well, I guess I didn't need to buy that dual core Opteron.

Recently tried installation and deinstallation of printerserver on my system and lost my mac address and lan connection in the process.  Used floppy flash and nvmac switch as described in other threads (e.g. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=84399.0 ) to restore nvidia mac address based on the mac address that was on the label of the printer port.  The thread that you gave above (i.e., https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=90591.0 ) talks about changing the last digit and says that the mac address stamped on the printer port label is the reaktek (not nvidia) mac address?  My system works fine (using only the Nvidia lan and not enabling the realtek in bios) but have I flashed with the wrong mac address?  I seem to recall doing the same thing before and using both lans after that without a problem.
EDIT-  When I enable realtek lan, it has the same mac address as the nvidia lan except for the last two characters.  My Nividia lan ends with "FD" (which is the mac address printed on the printer port) and the Realtek lan ends with "11".

  • MSI KT8 Neo2 F board, upgraded cpu and used MSIs Live Update, now unstable BSODs

I've had this mobo for almost 2 yrs now with an AMD 3500+ cpu and recently upgraded that to the FX-55. To do that, it required using MSIs Live Update and needed newer chipset drivers. It has the latest bios according to Live Update.
It took a few attempts but finally booted w/o BSODs and has been running for over 1 week BUT is still not right. It's sometimes unstable and will crash (BSOD) just by starting up a browser. I had the bios settings at "optimized" and have tryed a few other changes but so far, I'm not gaining. Last night I couldn't keep it running more than a few minutes w/o it crashing.
I have the MSI manual for my board and plan to spend some more time playing with it tonight but might anyone here have any ideas? It's not running hot (reads 50C) and was stable before with the 3500+. I've tryed "Fail Safe" bios settings too but nothing's better that way either.
I'm hoping that someone here has a few ideas?
    Perhaps related?
After initially running this with the new cpu, I'd see the "searching for MAC address" message and it'd hang there on boot. Someone told me that was because it was trying to do a network boot, selected in the boot sequence SO I've unselected that and that's when things got worse (oddly as it shouldn't IMO). One can select the 3+ boot devices (floppy, USB, CD-DVD rom, HDD) and it use to see the HDDs (2) before but now I'm not (only floppy and CD-DVD rom) and if I unselect the ethernet option (boot other devices), it fails to boot at all and says "insert floppy" as if I was installing Win98 way back when (running XP Pro btw). Something's definately not right with my bios selections.

Let's go back to basics here for a bit. Start by posting your complete specs in your signature like we do. Make sure that your PSU values are also in there.
Let's also look at some tests to help determine where the issue is. I would recommend Memtest86+, OCCT, Prime95, and 3DMarks as a great first series. Also get CPUz and lets see what it shows for CPU and Memory.
If we can get an idea where things begin to fall apart then maybe we can determine if this is driver, hardware or some other issue without having to make the flash happen first. The reason why I am avoiding the flash at this point is that if things are mostly working maybe there is some other cause than Bios. We know that some FX's work with 3.x and some that don't. So I would like to try a bit of checking before we dive into a flash that could cause more issues than it solves if we get this wrong. As things are mostly working now we can assume at least for the moment that maybe the flash is not needed. If we don't see anything during testing that sheds some light then maybe we go ahead with the flash.
That is if your willing to take some time to try and sort this out and maybe learn some stuff in the process. It is of course your call and we will respect whichever decission you make here.

Just curios if the MSI H55M-E23 Mother Board is it compatible with Usb 3.0?
    Thank you!

if you are asking if its able to use a USB 3.0 Device then the answer is yes but it will operate at USB2.0 speeds only on the ports as they are only USB 2.0 ports and USB 3.0 devices are backward compatible and can be used on USB 1.0a and USB 2.0 ports but will work only at the USB revision speed its connected to!

    8) Operating System:  Ms Windows XP Pro
Thanks for the help........ seboyd ?(  :D  8)

A clean install will give you 30 days to reactivate and it only takes a 5 minute call to get the new #s. Pretty simple and much easier than trying to straighten out all the error codes from old O S. I did however move an XP harddrive from a Turbo2 to a KT4 without a new install but they were both MSI boards. A clean install also gets rid of all the junk that accumulates. Just enter bios and make the CD rom 1 st boot . BIGDADDY51 CT. USA  :D  8)  :D

  • Please help: New MSI R6770 with MSI MS-7093 main board doesn't POST

I'm upgrading my son's HP a1130n which has an OEM MSI MS-7093 main board. I purchased the MSI R6770 based on a local retailer's advice.
    I took the following steps:
    - upgraded the power supply to a Cooler Master RS500-PCARD3-US 500W
    - set the BIOS to boot with PCI-E video
    - installed video card, attached 6 pin power connector, and powered on
With the video card installed, the computer runs all fans at maximum speed. No POST beep.
After taking the card out, the computer returns to normal.
I thought I'd ask for advice here before returning the card. Thanks.

    Thanks for the response.
I would have to purchase a card to try it. One of the main reasons I went with this card is that with the motherboard layout the RAM is directly in line with the PCI-E slot.  Many of the NVIDIA cards have a long form factor with a large fan housing that would physically interfere with the RAM.
So there's a known problem with the current generation of ATI cards on some motherboards?  In that case, going to a lower powered Radeon series wouldn't help?

  • Power supply for MSI 645 Ultra mother board

I need to replace the power supply for a MSI 645 Ultra mother board. I've available a switching power supply Allied model DR-B500E, that doesn't have the -5V output (infact its 20 pin ATX power supply connector has no wire in pin 18).
Can I use this power supply with the MSI 645 Ultra?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, here I am. Sorry for delay but I had some problems with the PC (as NTLDR missing).
However now is ok and I can confirm that it runs ok also with power supply without -5V output.
Thanks a lot for the support and best wishes for Christmas and new year.

  • MSI 865PE Platinium edition board failure?

    hello guys,
umm i recently upgraded my pc's powersupply unit and installed a new MSI NX6200 video card in my MSI 865PE Platinium edition board. well when we started the PC there was no signal display on the monitor and i failed to get the my pc started the power was on but nothing on screen, no beeps from the motherboard at all. The D brack on the back of the pc indicated memory failure so we took out the memory nothing no beeps i asked a computer seller guy to check it he said that the chips of the board are not getting hot but are cold so might be the board failure, i really don't know what to do, the warrenty is over as it was 1 year nearly and i don't get it the CPU did not fall or nothing only thing was i usually never cleaned my pc from inside so dust could be the reason or could voltage surge or something could have done some damage anyway my 130 $ board has failed from MSI gurentee tests or whatever  .  ;-((any suggestions ? guys

midhat, try go through this to find out what's wrong?
is there a buzzer/speaker on the board? If there is no, can you hook up one buzzer on your casing? After that, try this:
    1. remove EVERYTHING, except CPU. No RAM, no display, no EVERYTHING ELSE. All OUT!
---> you should hear 3 long beeps. If no, you have pretty much a dead BIOS, or an unsupported CPU, or a dead CPU, or a dead board, or really bad PSU.
    2. as (1), but add RAM.
--> you should hear 8 fast long-short beeps. If no, it could be half-defected RAM, bad chipset, bad board, or a bad PSU.
    3. as (2), but add Display card,
--> you should see POST screen. If not, then bad display card, bad board or bad PSU.
    4. as (3), but hook up the rests, one by one. Try to repeat power on again and see what's wrong.

  • 2 MSI KT6V-LSR mobo fried!!

    Hello,
I've recently had to replace my mobo. So I bought a new one (KT6V-LSR). Unfortunately when it doesn't seem to like my graphics, the power bus to the agp slot on the mobo gets fried. Having replaced it with the same model, the same thing happened again.
My graphics is an a-tek ((ati RV-100) radeon ve 7000 64MB dual display) is still working fine on my old PII system and was working fine on my previous mobo (K7N2 Delta-ILSR).
One of my lecturer has suggested that there might be a communication problem between the bios and the graphics card. While the setting for the agp voltage was on auto, it might have set to a higher voltage.
With persistence i replaced again, but this time with K7N2 Delta2-LSR. Up to now I haven't tried yet my radeon yet in case this happens again. The reseller would definitely not believe me.
My question is whether anybody has had this problem before?
I'm just trying to understand exactly what went wrong. Replies so far from ATI & MSI have very disappointing, they don't seem to read the questions you ask them.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

What happened to the very first mobo, you had to replace?
It is unnecessary to say power must be turned off before insertion, so I wont say anything.
How did you discover it was the AGP bus that was gone?
Hi, my first mobo (K7N2 Delta-ILSR) i had to replace for a different reason, i was doing some cpu testing for a friend, and when i removed his cpu, i had put too much pressure on the mobo to remove the (cheap) fan clip. So that was actually my fault.
Yes, i had the power off before insertion (KT6V-LSR).
I discovered it almost instantly after power on. with a smell of burnt and obviously a blank screen!
After close inspection I could actually see that the power bus to the agp slot was burnt. (sorry I'm not sure whether burnt is the correct word, my lecturer used another term but i don't remember.
Did you have any suggestion as to what have happened?
    Thanks

  • Fried board

    Hey Guys,
I've recently fried my PSU (sparked) and it seemed that the system still had power in it and stupidly I thought that it was a good idea to press the on button. Then the PSU sparked again and my motherboard standby light went dead. So I'm guessing the motherboard could be still good. So I then got a new PSU and plugged in everything and turned on the PSU, the motherboard standby light turns on now.
    Here is my questions:
When I go to press the on button on the case, the computer doesn't turn on at all, there is only slight movement on the fans in the case but nothing happens. I've looked at the motherboard and the standby light is still on. So I go to turn off the switch at the back of my PSU and I noticed that the standby light turns off, but only to light up again for a second and turn off again, is that normal?
I've also noticed that when I tried to turn on the computer that was a click noise coming from around the CPU anyone have ideas of what is going on?
Finally is it possible for the system to boot up (just turn on) with no GPU (assuming that the mobo was still good)?
    System Spec:
    MSI P6N SLI Platinum
    Intel E6600
    4GB Corsair DDR2 Ram

    Corsair 430W PSU
    Inno3d GTS8800 320MB
    160GB HDD (IDE)
    Pioneer DVD (IDE)
    Any help would be great
    Thanks

You should get BIOS error beeps (you need a speaker connected to the board to hear them, of course).
I have a P7N which is similar to the OP's P6 & have questions that may help him:
    1. The "Front Panel Connector" JFP2 includes both Speaker (SPK) and Buzzer (BUZ) connections. What are the BUZ for? Do both output POST codes?
    2. I hear a faint beep off the MB (on POST) without anything connected to JFP2. Where's this coming from?

  • P4m266 (MSI 6786 V2) On-Board VGA drivers don't work with SP2

I have a Pinnacle Micro system in the workshop which required a re-installation of the OS. The client no longer has the original installation CDs from Pinnacle and the local Pinnacle branch have declined to make a copy available to me. The mobo is an MSI 6787 Ver.2 with a Phoenix BIOS.
I installed Windows XP Home (no SP) and had no problems. I then used the CD supplied by Microsoft to install SP2. On rebooting the display was horrific. The OS automatically detected the VGA card as an S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR and installed the drivers. However it is virtually impossible to see anything on the screen, the colours are distorted and very faded. I tried to download updated drivers using the LiveUpdate feature but the first problem arose when it wanted to update the Phoenix BIOS with an AWARD BIOS...I quit in a hurry.
I have tried several drivers for this card. I browsed through the P4M266 boards until I found one which looked identical to the board I have in the workshop. However, it doesn't matter which version of driver I use none of them will give me a reasonable display.
Please can somebody tell me where I can find the correct drivers?

    Hi.
I have recently put together a new HTPC / Gaming system build but am having difficulty getting it to start up. System specs below:
    Board: MSI Z87 MPower Pro
Bios: Stock (Unsure as at work)
    VGA:   On Board
    PSU:   Seasonic X750 KM3
    Intel Core i5-4670S Haswell 3.1GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1150 65W

HDD: None at present but will be MSata SSD
COOLER: Scythe Kozuti Low Profile CPU Cooler SCKZT-1000
    OC: N/A
    OS: Windows 8 64bit
I have read that other people are having simialr issues with previous MPower boards (power for about 0.5 secs) and have followed all of the diagnostics and suggestions that have solved previous issues - To the point where I have removed the Mobo from the case, have only got the 20pin Motherboard connector attached, and 1 stick of RAM (In bay 2) of the board. I have attempted to clear the BIOS via the button on the back of the board as well as the removal of the back up battery. I have flicked between BIOS with no change also.
I am using the on board button for powering up (but the case button when connected has the same effect).
I am running out of ideas - I made doubly sure that all of the components that I purchased were compatible...
    Any ideas??
    Thanks.

What about JPWR 1 / 2? That is power for the CPU.

  • Is it true that not one of MSI's P67 Chipset boards supports Quad SLI

I received a message from MSI when I requested a list of LGA 1155 boards that support Quad SLI.  MSI stated that none of their 1155 socket boards support Quad SLI. I specifically bought my board because it was listed as a certified Quad SLI board in an article by Nvidia on "How to build a Quad SLI Rig" using 2 GTX 590s. Just a little disturbing if this is the case since I have been talking for pulling my hair out for 3 weeks and posting questions in this forum so that I could get a Quad SLI option in the Nvidia control panel and asking everyone for help. Just want to clarify that what this MSI employee is telling me is correct and that I would have to get a different CPU if I want to use MSI for Quad SLI or go to another MB Manufacturer (which I don't want to do).
MSI Tech. 02/23/2012 none for 1155 socket.
End User 02/23/2012 I am not asking you for technical support for my current board. I was asking for a recommendation based on my CPU which board is the best MSI makes that will support Quad SLI. MSI Tech. 02/23/2012 this is not the post sale technical support form, please use the proper support form from the following link: http://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/ts_form.aspx ***this model of the mb only supports SLI, not QUAD SLI: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD65--B3-.html#/?div=Basic

I believe there is a misunderstanding.  MSI seems to have their own terminology in which "2 GTX 590s" are not labeled "Quad-SLI" but actually "nVidia (Dual GPU) ( 2 way SLI)" as opposed to "nVidia (Single GPU) ( 2 way SLI)".
This is the video card test list for your P67 board and if you scroll down you will see what I mean.  A 2x590GTX setup wasn't actually tested, but you can find 2x295GTX and 2x9800GX2 setups in the list:
    http://eu.msi.com/file/test_report/TR1_2313.pdf
In MSI's terms, "Quad SLI" is reserved for setups with four actual cards and from this perspective Quad SLI is not supported on your mainboard model (there are only 2 PCI-E x 16 slots (connected to the CPU's PCI-E interface that will run as x8/x8 as the CPU only provides 16 PCI-E 2.0 lanes).
I hope that clears things up for you.
