MSI 745 Ultra CPU Support ?????

Hi,
I have just sent back my 1.6ghz Duron (applebred) due to crashes etc even slowed down to 1.2 ghz still crashes etc. I would like to know if this board will run the Duron 1.4 ghz 200 fsb ? this is not listed on the website (cpu support), is this cpu an applebred? remember its FSB is 200mhz. Please help me. Also I realise that MSI tell us about the applebred problems on their cpu support page BUT WHY do they advertise on the EBUYER website as this board being compatible with all AMD athlon/durons upto 2100+ ????? confusion city hear. Thanks

Thanks for your reply, So as i thought then BUT will the 1.4 ghz 200FSB work? it does not say on the cpu support page for MSI??????????  Thanks

  • MSI 745 Ultra mobo and XP 2400+ cpu problem

Well I just bought an Athlon XP 2400+ cpu as an upgrade for this computer. I am having a hard time getting it to work properly. My setup is as follows:
MSI 745 Ultra mobo (BIOS 1.6 and tried 1.5)
    AMD Athlon XP 2400+
    Samsung pc2700 memory (2x256meg sticks)
Asylum Geforce 4 Ti4600 video card
    Unknown 10/100 nic
    Maxtor 30gig HD
The first problem was, the XP 2400+ cpu was auto detected as an 1800+ running at 1.5ghz. I looked on the MSI cpu support page and it said to set the BIOS settings to 133 for the CPU FSB and 15 for the CPU Ratio. I did this (using 1.6 bios version) and the system would not boot. After some struggling I was able to get into the BIOS again. I messed with different Ratio's to lower the operating speed of the cpu. It turned out that anything I tried with the 133 FSB setting would hang the system. I looked in MSI knowledge base, it has my exact same problems listed and the recommended fix is to "upgrade" to BIOS 1.5. So, for kicks I downgraded my 1.6 BIOS to the 1.5 version. I still had the same exact problems, however, one different. When the FSB was set at 133 and Ratio at 15, for some reason the system booted but set the FSB back to 100 and the Ratio to 20 (which is not even an option in the bios). I found this information using Wincpuid once the system was booted. I really would like to get this cpu working as it should and be found as an Athlon 2400+ running at 2.0ghz. Anyone have any ideas?
Could the power supply be at fault at all? It's just a generic PS that came with the case. Maybe the 2400+ needs more power to run at the higher clock speed and FSB? My other thought is the memory. Something related to the ram maybe? TIA.
    Justin

Ok the trick is to do *not* as the MSI cpu support webpage says. The support webpage says to set the CPU FSB to 133 and the CPU Ratio (multiplier) to 15. My system would not boot this way. I set the FSB to 133 and the ratio to "H/W" and it works perfectly fine.

  • PowerNow with MSI 745 Ultra and Athlon XP2600-M

Hi, i have a MSI 745 Ultra board with a XP2600-M barton processor.
Has anybody got the powernow feature to work? I have tried and i just cannot do it. Also if i want top maually set the cpu core voltage in the bios it will not go to 1.45v!
I have the latest bios, drivers and xp pro with SP2
    Cheers

Hi, thanks for the quick responses
The CPU (although a barton core) is a native native FSB 266. AXMG2600FQQ4C
i got the processor because it runs at 45W - and i wanted a low current system for bittorrent and usenet downloads. the cpu is in the epox board at the mo as it allows a 1.45v core in the bios.
i got the MSI board off ebay for a staggering 99p (bargain as its a really good board), and the processor works fine on it. I cannot remember exacety how low i can set the cpu core voltage in the bios as the cpu is back in the epox board but im sure it bottomed out at 1.5v
The latest bios i installed in the MSI board said it supported the 2600+ but the powernow just did not work.
i may get an old mobile processor like an 1800+ and see if it works with that
    Cheers

  • MSI 745 Ultra multiple gfx cards

I have an MSI 745 Ultra , BIOS v1.4 and two gfx cards. One PCI and one AGP. On boot the AGP cards is initialized and used. Is there a way to initialize the PCI card first ?
Other motherboards have a BIOS option to select between a PCI or AGP card to be initialized first, but my BIOS has no such option ( or at least I could not find it ).

I have an MSI 745 Ultra, Athlon 900 ( 100 MHz FSB ) and 256 PC266 DDR memory module ( the chips are made by MOSEL (http://www.moselvitelic.com), chip type is V58C2128804SAT7 ).
BIOS is v1.4 ( v1.5 has the same problem )
The memory only runs at 200 MHz.
If I try to set it at 266 MHz ( CPU:MEM ratio 3:4 , FSB is 100 MHz ) then the computer keeps on rebooting, not even the VGA BIOS screen is visible. The only way back is clearing the CMOS with the jumper. ( not even holding "Insert" works. Is that supported at all ? On my older MB , MSI K7T Pro2A holding "Insert" on bootup, would use default BIOS settings, but still leave the CMOS intact, so you could switch back certain settings if the prevent from booting )
    Any suggestions ?
I tried BIOS v1.3 and there it works !

  • Please advise good RAID card for MSI 745 Ultra

I wish to add a RAID controller,
so that I may have a backup of my data drive
    (IBM 40gb 7200rpm ATA100).
I have purchased an identical drive
that I want to use as a mirror ("RAID 1", I believe
    this is called.
What RAID controllers would be the most compatible, fastest,  and most reliable?
The drive will be doing some hard work, writing audio data while it is being received in Cakewalk SONAR.
So the write speed must be able to keep up with "real time."
Thank you so much for your advice!
    Here is my setup:
MSI 745 Ultra (SiS 745 chipset)
    AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU
    512mb PC-333 DDR
    ATi Radeon 8500
    M-Audio Delta 44 & Audiophile 2496
Enermax 350w Power Supply Unit (do you think it's enough?)
Seagate 7200 20gb HD (WinXP on Primary Master IDE)
    MAXTOR 20gb 5400rpm (Primary Slave)
    SONY 52x CD-rom (secondary master)
    ... and ASUS 40x CD-RW (secondary slave)

3Ware makes the best IDE RAID controllers, hands down.
Basically, a 3Ware RAID controller is comparable to a SCSI RAID controller except that its IDE. Just about every other IDE RAID controller, the ones you find soldered on a motherboard in particular, is crap. Go 3ware, or don't go RAID at all. You won't regret it.

  • Random reboots /w MSI 745 Ultra

    Hi,
I'm having some stability issues with my system, specs are as follows:
    XP 2000+ (Boxed fan)
    MSI 745 Ultra
512 Mb PC2700 (1 module, generic labeled setec)
    MSI GF4 Ti4200 64 Mb
    IBM Deskstar 60GXP 40 Gb
    Aopen  ATX H500A/MT, 300W
    Windows XP Pro
I've upgraded to the latest bios, updated to all latest driver versions and fiddled with various settings, but nothing seems to keep the system stable in the long run. I've had these reboots even while browsing the web with a minimal system load. CPU temp ranges from 48-55 deg. C and case temp is about 35, which I reckon to be pretty normal (no o/c). With the memory set to 333 MHz the system copes really bad (e.g. fails to run a 3dMark2001 run), but when I turn the memory to 266 the reboots are far less frequent (sometimes many hours in between).
I concluded that my problems were linked to the memory so I had the module changed (same generic, tho), but this hasn't really helped. Would it help to switch in brand memory like apacer or kingston? Any ideas and suggestions are welcome...

    Alrighty!
The problem is now solved. It turned out to be both memory and psu related. After exchanging the generic mod for an apacer the system actually worked at 4:3 mem/fsb, but the random boots kept coming every few hours. This convinced me that the psu was the main culprit. After installing a q-tec 450w in the case the system has been rock solid even at a slight o/c (138 fsb). The dual fan structure of the psu has actually made my cpu and chassis temps drop a few degrees, even though I already had a case fan at the back.
Anyways, thanks once again for the advice!

  • Setting up MSI 745 Ultra with Athlon xp

Hi I'm trying to set up my cpu and motherboard. I have
    Athlon xp 1800+
    MSI 745 Ultra motherboard
    40gb Maxtor HD
    256 DDR333
    Inno3d Geforce 4 mx440
    Win XP pro
I set my FSB to 133 so it's 266 and set ratio so that ram is 333. When I save and reset computer the settings go back to default fsb speed but XP crashes all the time.
If I switch off the computer and then back on again (instead of reset) a message says incorrect ram frequency even though it is 333 ram.
Someone said I need to set my IRQ list, but isn't this done automatically? Does anyone know what settings I should put in the bios, I'm using the latest update...
Also bios and XP says my cpu is 'mobile amd 4' not 'xp'. I have right cpu as I have checked part number
    Thanks

Go to this msi forum a lot of info for the msi 745ultra
1 thing go back to the 1.3 bios the 1.4 sucks big time

  • MSI 745 Ultra RAM Problem!!!

    Hello,
I currently have a MSI 745 Ultra Motherboard with the latest installed firmware.
    Ok here is my problem.
I bought 2 sticks of ram from http://www.crucial.com/uk, the memory was 512MB 333Mhz.  I instantly started getting errors within windows, something like "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA", the error occurred totally at random, the computer can be running for 5 mins or 5 hours before the error occurs and I can be doing anything from playing a game or browsing the internet.
First thing I did was run memtest to see if there was a fault with the memory, It found no errors at all.
Second thing I tried was to reinstall windows, This didnt solve the error ethier.
Third thing I tried was to only use one memory module, This is the odd thing, Both memory modules work fine on there own with no errors at all.
    Can you please help?
    Barry

  • MSI 745 Ultra SiS Install Issue

I'm having HUGE issues installing this board. I've tried to read as many posts as possible to see if this has been covered, but didn't see it. here is what I have:
    Motherboard: MSI 745 Ultra Socket-A SiS745 / DDR333
    CPU: AMD K7 Duron 700MHz Socket-A
    Powersupply: 430W P4 Ready
    RAM: K-Byte 256MB-DDR 2100 PC266 184PIN DIMM
    Video: 16MB 3DFX VOODOO3 3500 TV-OUT AGP
    HDD: 10.2GB SAMSUNG IDE 5400RPM
    Fan: ANTEC Twister Socket-A / Socket 370
skimpy, but logically possible, right? all pieces are brand new and all pieces have been tested in working machines... all except the motherboard. cpu, ram, hdd, & video all work until put on this board. I get power, but no video, can't hear the ram check, and the d-bracket sticks on all 4 red lights. if I could please get help with this it would be much appreciated. I tried starting with just the cpu, ram, and video hooked up to see if that helped... no go.
    thanks

I tried installing a different video card:
    GeForce2 MX400 PCI 64MB
this may be a dumb question, but i can still install a PCI vid card when there's an AGP available, right? it does not have the volts listed anywhere in the specs to let me know if this is 1.5v or not.
i'm getting the same error.... all 4 lights on the d-bracket, no ram check, no beeps, no signal to monitor. but power to fan, power to led's.

  • MSI 745 Ultra Boot Problem 2

This board does not boot up correctly  .
    Here is what happens:
The boot process starts correctly. First the fans spin up, the bios beeps once, but then a couple of seconds later the pc speaker starts beeping indefinitely and the computer hangs at the MSI splash screen (where it says press del to enter setup- however no keyboard input works).
THe D-Bracket diagnostic LED shows 1 red, 2 green, 3 red, 4 green, which translates to "testing base and extended memory." However, the memory passes the "memory detection test" and appears to be a good stick...unless it is somehow incompatible with this board.

    Athlon XP 1600+
    ATI Radeon 9000 AGP

is the board faulty, I have tried everything mentioned on this forum!

Do you have CPU fan that changes it's speed when cpu temp grows higher? My mobo did that b4 i disabled "check cpu fan" from bios. If  you have you could try to keep your computer in that beep state untill cpu fan starts rotating fast enough. Then u boot and go to bios and disable "check cpu fan" and then that should work.. But only if you have same problem as i had..

It gives me 5 options: boot into safe mode, safe mode with network connections, safe mode with command prompt, last know good config, continue loading windows. Whichever option i choose, it restarts before it has finished loading windows. With the last 2options, it restarts just as it starts to display the XP scan disk screen.
I have even updated the bios, but it still has the same outcome. I am at a loss here, could somebody please help, otherwise it looks like this board is goin back and i'm guna have to look for another.

    It then said i should:

Remove any new hard-disks and hard-disk controllers
Run CHKDSK /F to check for hdisk corruption.
Under technical information, it displayed the following codes:

  • MSi 745 ultra usb boot

    Hi!
I have a MSI 745 ultra mb with the latest bios installed. I set usb legacy and the bios detected my usb drive in the boot sequency, but when i rebooted it did not started installing the operating system, instead i got same message, its not proper media(it worked perfectly in an other machine). Could you help me what the problem could be?
    Thankyou.

I tried to install windows 7 which i was able to install via dvd. The bios recognizes the pendrive, i can switch it to the first boot device. The problem is, that after i reboot it boots from it, but instead of starting the installation wizard it says can't read data.
In windows it also recognizes the usb and every piece of data in it, that's why i'm a bit confused.

  • MSI 745 Ultra and AMD XP 2000+

    Hello everyone,
    I've got a problem, i've got a MSI Ultra 745 (MS-6561)
mainbord and a AMD XP 2000+ Processor.
When i am in windows, fuzzy logic reports to me that
    my cpu is 1666 Mhz..
When i start my bios says that it is an xp 2000+ so that's fine..
And in my bios settings i can change my FSB and my Ratio..
In windows it wil say ratio 12,5 and fsb 133..
How can i change the ratio to 15?
In my bios i can change it to 15 but NOT with program's like fuzzy logic (only the FSB)
    Geetz, arjan

AMD labels their processors by their performance comparison to Intel processors.  So an Athlon XP 2000+ will perform just as well, or better, than a P4 at 2GHz at about 9 out of 10 applications.  The actual clock speed is lower than what the processor is listed as.
You can't change the multiplier factor unless you hack your CPU (quite literally, by connecting some of the L3 bridges with some low resistance thermal silver laquer, this is a difficult and dangerous process).
You can increase the FSB, but if you go above 145 you have serious risk of stability issues.  This will not only effect your CPU, but all of the components of your PC.  I have mine at 140.  Generally you aren't supposed to overclock anything more than 10%
Also, the 745 Ultra does not have a fan for it's motherboard interface controller chip (this would be called the Northbridge, but there's no SouthBridge connected to it).  It just has that copper heatsink that says MSI DDR.  I put my own 40mm fan on it to make sure the chip doesn't overheat.  If you are OCing your FSB, you may want to consider this.
