MSI 746F-Ultra BIOS

Are we going to see an 'Improved BIOS' for this board soon? On the support website it states that the initial release is an AMI BIOS release, which makes me wonder if there is a new, much improved 'MSI BIOS' in the pipeline.
If this is the case, are we likely to see some more features opened up, such as CPU multiplier and Vcore options? I hope so because this mobo would be up there with the best if these options are enabled. These options + 3 phase power + AGP/PCI lock = :D overclocking.
Another thing which could be improved is the Memory timings, I have great problems achieving the 'turbo' and 'ultra' settings, even with Vmem increases. I know that the memory is ok, I have tested it on other boards. But with those settings I cannot even initialise, never mind post.
I bought this board to replace my aging SiS735, and so far, I'm happy. It has great stability and is pretty quick. But I do think that the memory performance and BIOS options can be improved.

boards bios will allways say ami,no idea when any updates due ,but new boards tend to get them quick initially

And to anwer your question. When you see the boot up screen you will see the processor and the FBS Speed. If it shows an 1800+ and a 133FSB you know you are running at 266DDR.

MSI 645 Ultra - Bios Toasted! Need help

Greetings,
A year ago I attempted to flash my bios on my 645 ultra, but really screwed it up (I flashed from windows). Don't ask why I did that, apparently at the time I had a brain fart! hehe. So anyways, how do I revert to the original bios? Anyway to recover? When I power up the board, it doesnt even POST...
Am I screwed? ;(

Best thing would be to have someone with an EEPROM programmer to burn it, or get a replacement from MSI.
A very risky trick, dont do this, if you do and screw EEPROM or a perfecly well working MOBO up dont blame me.
But sometimes someone has and old dont care MOBO and well your EEPROM is pretty useless so someone might try the BIOS swap trick (I warned everybody):
1. Get BIOS and programingsoftware
2. Find a PC working, turn it on boot on the DOS disc
3. Take the BIOS out - DO NOT shut down the power
(this is the dangerous part)
4. Put the wrongly programmed BIOS in the empty socket
(this is the extremely dangerous part
5. Program the BIOS
6. Turn of and put bios back in their right MOBO

Mobo MSI KT4 Ultra, bios 1.30

?( Is this possible, if i connect two disks(master and slave) to ide3(raid)
slot and CDRW to ide1 slot, master(udma). Boot from master disk and reinstall windows xp
and Promise raid driver, so on......??!!
Disks are Seagate Barracuda IV 60Gb(identical). And is raid-0 any faster than typical ide100? Do i have to setup raid-1 if i wanna more speed(seektime etc)?
How to setup arroy?
And what is raid bios? What is newest and how to upgrade....?

In the beginning it is difficult. Take it slow. You can work out yourself by using the web as the medium to provide you more information about RAID. There are plenty of search engines to help you.

Hi, I have recently bought a 746F board, XP2400 and 512 DDR333 unbranded RAM...
I am having problems with my new PC rebooting itself for no apparant reason....

MSI 5900 Ultra bios mod help!!!

Has anyone else with the 5900U tried flashing to 5950u? I have tried using MSI 5950U bios but found it "flickered" too much for my liking and now am back to original bios.
I would like to hear fellow MSI users opinions on this particular card and what kind of experiences you've had with the bios flash.
Ultimately I would like to flash my card to a 5950U but would like to hear more opinions with MSI cards before I try again.
All help is greatly appreciated.

Your guess could be right.
The temp is lower. When you autodetect for speed adjustment, it gets lower speed reflecting its 5900 root (maybe hardware control/lock), but still higher than I can oc the 5900. At default it is 475/950. Manual adjustment reach 503/1.02g, but not stable.
Maybe new nVidia driver can help.
There is another site, http://www.mvktech.net that you may have visited, where there are alternate msiBios (probably the same though). Seems rev2 works for people on some forum.
Notice that not many msiUsers here are onto this topic. Any guesses? Restrictions?

MSI 645 Ultra, Bios won't change

Every time I change FSB, clock multiplier or mem ratio in the bios, when I save and close bios to re-boot, the values return to the default settings. Am I missing something? ?( ?(
I Have a p4 1.7G 256k L2 Cach.

The P4 1.7 is a very bad overclocker.
Maybe you went too far, try just 1MHz more to the FSB to see if it is saved or not.

MSI 745 Ultra RAM Problem!!!

I currently have a MSI 745 Ultra Motherboard with the latest installed firmware.
Ok here is my problem.
I bought 2 sticks of ram from http://www.crucial.com/uk, the memory was 512MB 333Mhz. I instantly started getting errors within windows, something like "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA", the error occurred totally at random, the computer can be running for 5 mins or 5 hours before the error occurs and I can be doing anything from playing a game or browsing the internet.
First thing I did was run memtest to see if there was a fault with the memory, It found no errors at all.
Second thing I tried was to reinstall windows, This didnt solve the error ethier.
Third thing I tried was to only use one memory module, This is the odd thing, Both memory modules work fine on there own with no errors at all.
Can you please help?

MSI 745 Ultra multiple gfx cards

I have an MSI 745 Ultra , BIOS v1.4 and two gfx cards. One PCI and one AGP. On boot the AGP cards is initialized and used. Is there a way to initialize the PCI card first ?
Other motherboards have a BIOS option to select between a PCI or AGP card to be initialized first, but my BIOS has no such option ( or at least I could not find it ).

I have an MSI 745 Ultra, Athlon 900 ( 100 MHz FSB ) and 256 PC266 DDR memory module ( the chips are made by MOSEL (http://www.moselvitelic.com), chip type is V58C2128804SAT7 ).
BIOS is v1.4 ( v1.5 has the same problem )
The memory only runs at 200 MHz.
If I try to set it at 266 MHz ( CPU:MEM ratio 3:4 , FSB is 100 MHz ) then the computer keeps on rebooting, not even the VGA BIOS screen is visible. The only way back is clearing the CMOS with the jumper. ( not even holding "Insert" works. Is that supported at all ? On my older MB , MSI K7T Pro2A holding "Insert" on bootup, would use default BIOS settings, but still leave the CMOS intact, so you could switch back certain settings if the prevent from booting )
Any suggestions ?
I tried BIOS v1.3 and there it works !

Yes, but now the subject is a lot less descriptive.
With the original post, forum users could see what my problem is just by looking at the message list.
Now only those who open my message can see what problems I have. By this I lost a lot of potential helpers.
I personally would probably not open a message with such unspecific title as "MSI 745 Ultra problems"

MSI KT3 Ultra ARU 5.7 BIOS and SoudBlaster Cards - Audigy

I have flashed my BIOS to 5.7 Version and my sound card start to make a lot of noise (crackling) when play AC3 or DVD. If you dont want to use the new AMD CPU 333 FSB you dont need to flash the BIOS - I have Flashed to 5.6 again but, if you want to use a 333 FSB CPU you can flash the BIOS to version 5.7 and if have sound problems use the PCI latency patch for VIA chipsets.
VIA chipset MotherBoard owners who have through all of the above and still have sound problems with their Soundblaster cards, might want to look into the PCI latency patch for VIA chipsets - get it here:

Since my chip is an unlocked, I cannot easily run it at the default, but I can underclock it. At 100x6.0=600mhz, USB does not work, as well as 100x12.5. Same with 133x6.0 and 133x12.5. It appears to make no difference underclocking or overclocking.
I downloaded the right BIOS listed on MSI's KT3 Ultra-ARU page. I don't think the BIOSes are different anyway, since the same files, changelog, and etc are also listed for the Ultra-2 board.
A thing to note, that this is the onboard VIA-controller USB ports doing this. My Ultra-ARU's NEC-controller USB 2.0 ports work fine in both Win2k and Linux if I hook my mouse and keyboard up in those. This is not an ideal solution for me though.

Help please 746F Ultra

I have had problems with my PC which I think are related to the mainboard 746F Ultra. following a bios upgrade. My PC has been hanging, and I am getting 98%CPU usage on system.(according to task manager, proceses tab)
The pc was only recognising my XP2100 as an XP1500. Changing the FSB setting fixed this, however this intermitet problem with the CPU usage has returned. I noticed in the hardware tab under system devices there is a "Motherboard resourses" and there is no driver installed, could this be part of the problem? (tried installing driver from the motherboard CD, nothing relevant found)

MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU video lock-ups

Hello,
I have a 3 month old MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU. I am running Windows XP Professional and I am having a periodic lock-up where the screen will show blinking colored blocks and the system will freeze. Sometimes just hitting reset will cure the problem. Other times, hitting reset will create two vertical stripes of colored blocks scrolling down the screen. I have used the board on two entirely separate systems (One with AMD Athlon 2000+, Gainward GeForce 4200, 512 MB Samsung 2700 DDR, Western Digital Expert HD (tried both IDE #1 and RAID controller) (Other System, Athlon 1800+, a different Gainward Geforce 4200, 256 Crucial 2700 DDR, an older Maxtor hard drive). In either system, every once in a while, the system will freeze as described above (it has happened in Netscape 7.0, Microsoft Word 2000, America's Army game).
I have played around with the bios settings, reformatted hard drives, tried various revisions of the nvidia display drivers, swapped out video cards, etc. Any ideas? Do I have a bad board? Do I need to flash the BIOS? If the board is bad, what do I need to do to return it?

The second system has a 330 watt enermax power supply. With the new system I put together, I put virtually the same board (MSI KT3 Ultra 2 with bluetooth and RAID), everything is the same as my first system (except the KT3 Ultra-ARU) and the stability is fine. So, I'm reasonably confident its not the power supply.

PSU Query for MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU running 3000xp

Before buying a new Motherboard I was just wondering if the problems I'm getting are related to the PSU which is about 5 years old. I've just upgraded my processor to a Athlon 3000 XP 333 FSB which goes into the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E v1.X) motherbaord, which I've upgraded the Bios to version 5.7, I've also upgraded my graphics card to the Leadtek Geforce FX5900XT which also plugs into the PSU. When setting my fsb to 166 my PC either won't boot or when I try to run say 3DMark it just freezes, but when I set my FSB to 133 it works fine. I was wondering if it is trying to draw too much power from the CPU.
I don't really know how to write the PSU details down correctly so I've just copied everything from the unit.

MSI KT3 Ultra ARU & GeForce 3 TI200

A little prob:
When I run my GF3 in AGP mode, all my games hang after playing 1 min. Then when I change the "Via Tech CPU to AGP-controller" to "PCI standard PCI to PCI brigde" thereby running my GF3 in PCI-mode everything runs fine. Then I went into "dxdiag" and saw that "Acceleration of AGP-struktur" was not availble. So I was thinking, am I looseing enything by running the GF3 in PCI-mode and is it the MSI or the GF3 that is causeing this problem.
I have tried all the VIA 4in1 drivers and they did not help.
My specs:
MSI KT3 Ultra ARU
Athlon XP 1900+
Palite Daytona Geforce 3 TI200
Windows XP pro

i have the kt3 ultra with a geforce 3 ti200 and it runs flawless.. i use the det 30.30 drivers. one thing i noticed with geforce 3 cards is if i have my agp apperature set to anything but 128 games will freeze and get all kinds off lock ups. if i were you i would look around this forum for the bios setup guide for the kt3 ultra! and set your bios according to that guide
