Msi 770 c45 and Phenom II x3 720

Is it possible to unlock the 4th core with this motherboard?

The question is has your motherboard got the functionality in the BIOS. Whether it's possible depends on the CPU. If the 4th core was up to standard it probably would have been sold as a fully fledged quad core. AMD does not lock cores for no reason. Some of the later CPUs, the unusable cores have been laser cut and no BIOS in the world will ever see it.
Consult the BIOS part of the manual and see if core unlocking is a feature of the board.

  • MSI 770 C45 with Phenom 955 - Random freezing

    Hi,
I recently bought the 770 C45 with an AMD Phenom 955 and I have had endless problems. I get random BSOD's, particularly when I am running processor intensive applications. I can’t seem to get the timings and voltage correct in the BIOS, I tweak it slightly and it seems ok for a couple of days then the BSOD's will start again, I tweak again and it’s fine for a few more days then problems start again. A vicious circle! Can anyone recommend BIOS settings I can try to help with this problem? I have looked all over the net and tried many suggestions but as of yet I cannot find the correct settings.   I have read plenty of threads on this forum before posting this but couldn’t find anything that I haven’t already tried.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Mark.

    Thanks for all the advice.
Tried with 1 stick and the system was alot more stable, no BSOD's or any kind of freezing.  I ran prime95 overnight with 1 stick and all was fine, if I insert another stick the system is still stable but I get an error in prime95 after a few minutes.

Re-test the each stick alone. [You may have defective stick]
If each one is stable at his own, before fill all 4 DIMM's:
    * Leave Memory timings to Auto
    * Ensure 2T is used
    * Drop memory freq. to 1066
    * Apply memory voltage recommended by memory vendor

    1GB Crucial DDR3 1333 X2
    GeForce 8500GT
My problem is that when I boot, I have no video. I threw in a PCI graphics card but still no video.  It's kind of embarrassing but I'm not sure where to go next.
    Thanks for the help.

This is the first I've ever put this together.  However I have seen the video card work.
PSU ThermalTake Pure Power 430 - worked on the computer I'm using right now.
The CPU  power cable is connected.
No I haven't tried to boot w/o the m/b in the case.  I will though.

Recently I've got the Phenom x4 Z965 (125TDP) to replace my old and trusty Athlon x2 250
My mobo as I said is the MSI 770-C45
From the cpu support of my mobo I saw that the current phenom is compatible
I connect everything with each other, cpu, mobo, psu etc, I updated the bios to the latest (1F), I did C-MOS, I load optimised setting from the bios menu, but my pc doesn't boot, it's always get stucked when the colourfoul circles of win7 shows up
whenever i put back my old Athlon everything works like a charm
my psu I believe is powerfull enough to handle phenom (Thermaltake Berlin 630W)
    Can anybody suggest a thing??
    I'm devasted
    Thanks in advance

    thanks for the reply
unfortunatelly I live in a small island where almost all my relatives don't have AM3

  • MSI 770-C45 Gameport compatibility

    The problem:
I have an MSI 770-C45 mainboard and want to use the gameport on an Ensoniq ES1370. I can't get it to work in any way. I think the cause may be the mainboard reserving hardware address 201 for its own purposes (at least Windows XP tells me so, range 0x201 - 0x201 conflicts with "Motherboard resources" twice). Am I correct on this? Is there any way to get the gameport to work?

That thing must be more than 10 years old and drivers are probably no good for XP. Creative took over the company so you would need to check with them if there are updated drivers.

It works flawlessly under XP (Professional) on another computer with an AMD processor, though that computer is less recent . Think Athlon 2600+, GeForce FX5200 and so on.

Why do you need the gameport? If its for a game controller, why not treat yourself to a modern USB one? As Henry says, I've not seen any devices that connect to a gameport for 10 years or so now...
There is that; it may not be worth the effort to get the old gameport gamepad working.

  • MSI 770-C45 locking up/blue screening/other errors on boot

I recently built a new HTPC and have been having allot of problems getting it to boot.  It may take 10-15min of trying to boot up over and over with random blue screens, lockups, or errors that the C drive needs to be checked for consistency before Windows will finally load up and work.  At first I thought it was a bad drive, but according to Western Digital’s HDD Diag util, both the controller and the drives surface checks out OK.  I just wiped the drive out and reinstalled Windows 7 again, and this time went with IDE instead of AHCI, hoping it was a driver issue.  It only worked well for a day before the same problems started rearing their ugly head again.
At this point I don’t know if I have a memory issue, a CMOS setting wrong (which are All Auto), or what.  I hoping someone here might have an idea of what this problem could be.

According to MSI, my motherboard supports the following modules:
    DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600*(OC)
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=prodmbspec&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=171&cat3_no=656&prod_no=1812
This are the speeds of the DDR 3 RAM supported ,1600Mhz beeing done with overclocking ,because the CPU memory controller is no able to do 1600 by default.
    Quote from: Mavrick007 on 23-July-10, 02:39:51
When I look at the test results for my Motherboard:
    http://www.msi.com/uploads/test_report/TR10_1812.pdf
I see 1333 RAM list like PC11000 DDR III RAM (DDR-1333).  However, If I go to a site like Bestbuy or NewEgg and search for DDR3 1333, it shows results like Corsair - 2-Pack 2GB PC3-10666 DDR3 DIMM Memory Kit.  I see PC3-10666 and PC3-10600, but nothing for PC11000.
The only mention of 1333 modules on the test report is for 1333 OC
When you see the PC 11000 DDR3 or PC3 10666 specifications they are refering to the theoretical bandwidth ,it s related to the frequency of course ,but it s something else it s a data rate. Its wikipedia but it s good enough -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_3 Some specs are atipical like 10666 ,marketing thngyes
Search the internet for memory that works ok with your CPU ,look for "real" DDR 3 1066Mhz or DDR 3 1333Mhz."real" means that that memory should be able to run at those frequencies without voltage increase over the default one.Usually when a memory vendor says you need to increase voltage for a specific frequency it means that you overclock and that there is no warranty they will work in your configuration.
So you need DDR 3 1066Mhz or DDR 3 1333Mhz ,it needs to be AMD tested memory and it needs to be a known to work RAM on MSI motherboards timings wise.Look up on newegg and see what works.
The performance gaps between 1066 and 1333 are small in real practice and you can overcome some loss by using a "real" DDR 3 1066Mhz , tweaking different timings ,using Command Rate of 1T for example ( you may "feel" it smoother in desktop than a 1333Mhz at 2T).

  • MSI 770-C45 - Windows Install stuck on 'system is starting windows'

    Hello,

I have flashed the bios to the latest (1.4) and it didn't help it either.  When looking online I just find too many individual problems and answers to this issue.  I am at work now so when I get home I will update with more info as well as try a few more troubleshooting steps.

As a note, I am troubleshooting a friends computer that he was setting up.  Further troubleshooting steps by me:
Fredrik, I was unable to find the speed/memory handling option in the BIOs to change it down to UDMA2.
I don't have a spare set of DDR3 Ram to test that out.  Have a spare PSU to test with but haven't done that yet.
Switched out the DVD Drive to a Lite-On IT Corp. Model LH-52C1P DVD burner and it got stuck on 'Setup is loading files (Windows Executive)'
Attempted to switch out the IDE Cable for the DVD Drive and found I couldn't put a new one into the Motherboard.
Seems two pins (one over the other on the far left side) are bent just a little out of place and are loose.  Looks like I might need to exchange the board for a new one by the looks of it.

    Hi,
I hope wiping the drive works for yeah.
As far as the psu is concerned, I agree with what the others are saying.
Looking at your psu specs, you only have 24 amps on the 12V rail.
Your video card requirements call for that but you have no head room.
Total watts is not the only way to pick a psu.
How those watts are deligated to the various voltages it puts out.
Plus you want a psu that offers "clean" consistant power.
When you get your w7 installed we can help you pick a better psu if thats what you want.

It did work outside of the case, my display turned on and I was too lazy to plug the PCIx connector to the graphic card and I started installing the mainboard back to the case, and now I get the same black screen with or without the PCIx connector plugged. But now I can start the PC with the 4 pin connector in, all the 4 blue LEDs on the motherboard are on and the power LED on the case is on too now. And I can turn off the PC by holding the power button.
When mounting the board to the PC case take attention to this one marked with red:
Motherboard Grounding to case causing No Post
Test the motherboard outside of the case to verify that the motherboard is not shorting to the case and causing a problem
         •    With only the CPU and heat sink, memory, and video card (or onboard video) connected to the motherboard, place the motherboard on a non-conductive surface and retest the motherboard
         •    Check the case mounting standoffs to verify that they are lining up correctly with the mounting holes on the motherboard.

Any special reason why you want to do that?
It should handle the same as an USB-stick, however, harddisks are a lot larger.
And best to be unmounted before removed.
Safest way is and will ever be to shutdown the system.
Like i said, the reason i want to do this is to connect the front esata connector of my case to a sata port on the motherboard. Then i would be able to connect a external esata drive.

However, I can ran 3DMark2006 without any problem.  Before using Mygica 8557, I use another TV turner PE186Q , the case is even worse, the computer will freeze during driver installation (Vista 32bit) .  But the same card work fine with another brand 790GX motherboard.
I would suspect it is the IRQ problem but since there is no adjustment option for PCI-E resouces in BIOS, there is nothing I can do.
Did anyone have the same problem like mine ?
My config is as follow :
    Phenom II 545
    MSI 770-C45
    G. Skill DDR3-1333 2G x 2
    WD 320G hard disk
    ATI 2600XT
    Corsair cx400 400W power supply
    MyGica 8557 , Grandmars PE186Q

    Thanks for all the advice.
Tried with 1 stick and the system was alot more stable, no BSOD's or any kind of freezing.  I ran prime95 overnight with 1 stick and all was fine, if I insert another stick the system is still stable but I get an error in prime95 after a few minutes.

I am in the process of buying a new PSU, the system is so unstable with all memory slots populated.

Re-test the each stick alone. [You may have defective stick]
If each one is stable at his own, before fill all 4 DIMM's:
    * Leave Memory timings to Auto
    * Ensure 2T is used
    * Drop memory freq. to 1066
    * Apply memory voltage recommended by memory vendor

  • MSI 770-C45 Constant BSOD

    Hi,
About a month ago I updated my video card drivers, bios and chip set drivers to their latest versions. After doing this my system has become increasingly more unstable giving me BSOD with PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and MEMORY_MANAGEMENT reasons. I am also getting a lot of application crashes (Explorer, Display Device, Direct Show) and freezes.
The BSOD's seem to disappear sometimes for a few days (usually after I've gone into safe mode to check something) and then after a cold boot come back again.
My first thought was that this is due to the display driver as the system can be completely stable when running from a DVI connection and then gives these BSOD's when the HDMI connection with HDMI audio is connected. However after lots of good support from ATI/AMD they are pointing the finger at other hardware (memory/motherboard).
I have run memtest86+ against my OCZ Gold 12800 Dual Channel however it shows no errors. I checked my timings and found them to be off: had 7-7-7-16 in BIOS and 6-6-6-15 in CPUID (anyone know why these would be different). So I changed the settings to force 8-8-8 (could not change TRAS so it is still showing as 16 rather than 24). I also read a few other forum posts that boosted the voltage to the NB and DRAM... therefore I set the voltage to the NB CPU at 1.6 (max before red) and DRAM at 1.63 (max before red). I also changed the spread spectrum to disabled and forced the 1T/2T to 2T. However after all these changes, the system has become slightly more stable (would run a few benchmarks) but would then crash again while doing something random (playing a game or using notepad) with another BSOD with MEMORY MANAGEMENT error.
Anyone know what settings I should be using for my OCZ3G16002G? Could the fact that the memory states 1.7 volts and I can only set 1.63? Could it be that I cannot seem to change the TRAS and it seems to auto set it to 16? Any other ideas?
I'm at a loss with this system, any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
I have a 500 watt Coolermaster 80+ PSU. The memory is 2 DIMMS of OCZ3G16002G (by OCZ) rated for 8-8-8-24. I have no overclocking running... if fact this is a media system and thus I am running AMD cool and quiet.
I am running Win 7 64 bit with latest updates.
As further information, tonight I tried to change the memory timings again, but can only set the CAS, TRCD and TRP. I don't seem to be able to change the TRAS (states auto in bios and defaults to 16). When running benchmarks on the system tonight, the crashes appear less frequent but happen after the system is placed under more stress. I have also started to see two new BSOD messages: "Bad Pool Headers" and "Bad Pool Caller".
    Cheers,
    Gary
