MSI 785GM-E51 and Athlon II x4

I recently bought a new motherboard and processor for my computer along with 2gb of memory but seem to be having some problems. I have the motherboard connected to my HDTV by the HDMI plug but whenever I turn my tv off and then on again the pc loses its signal and the only way to get the picture back is to press sleep and wake it up or restart it. It also loses its signal whenever I play a game and quit the game. At first I thought it might be a problem with the power supply because the one I was using was only 300w when the recommended said 350w so I bought a 500w power supply but things are still the same. Another thing is that I was hoping to play Mafia 2 on it but when I run the demo it lags a lot even when on low graphics which doesn't make sense since I have whats recommended. Appreciate any help.

With a new motherboard follows a fresh installation of Windows. It is almost a must to get a stable system. But if everything else works except for the gaming, you likely installed Windows on an empty hard disk, and it is as Bas says.
Please list the max amps the new PSU can do. Whenever I read "Cool" my alarm rings.
- Eh, can your system really make it through Mafia 2 with only onboard graphics:

Video Card: nVidia GeForce 8600 / ATI Radeon HD 2600"

  • MSI 785GM-E51 and memory modules problems

Could anyone help me with one problem. I have motherboard MSI 785GM-E51 and 4 memory modules GOODRAM GR 1333D364L9/2G. But when I'm inserting ALL modules my system not starting (even POST procedure). So working variants - when I'm inserting:
    - one module in first (boot) slot
    or
    - they inserted in first and third memory slots
    Any ideas?

It is not motherboard problem, but processor itself - I have AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3,4 Ghz Core Revision C2 and this revision (according to the article: http://www.fcenter.ru/online.shtml?articles/hardware/processors/27650#02) has problems with support memory modules DDR3-1333 Mhz more than 2 modules. Conclusion - either adjust BIOS settings concerning memory timings and memory controller voltage or replace this kind of processor with the same type but with core revision C3

    I am using AMD PHENOM II 1055 125w CPU on MSI 785GM-E51.  Memory Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600 x4
I can put memory in slot 1 and 3 it will boot fine.
If I install DDR3 in slot 1 and 2 the system will not boot. If I full populate all the memory slots it will not boot
In both scenario's after the system does not boot and go back to just using slots 1 and 3 the system boot with CMOS checksum error and need to go in to BIOS setup. All the changes need to be made again, saved and exit and it reboots fine.
I have already attempted to setup the memory speed to 1333 and 1066 with no luck. Any ideas?

  • System unstable - MSI 785GM-E51 and OCZ3G1600LV2G

I had random freezes since I built the system(20 days ago). But, intially freezing up once a day or so. Recently in the last 10 days, the freezes are more often (sometimes within 5 to 10 mins). Basically system freezes at stock settings.
    Running Prime95 to test
Blend test stops mostly within the first few seconds reporting hardware error. The other two types work well. Did not let them go past few mins.
Also, changed the CPU to FSB ratio to 1:4. So, BIOS indicates 1600Mhz. Changed DRAM Voltage to 1.65V and system still unstable. Changed back.
Also, when I enable the MSI board features to Unlock CPU and ACC, the sytem does not boot under and stock settings.

The model number is incomplete (not possible to find any match on the OCZ Product Pages).
Can you write down the model number as it appears on the modules themselves?
    Quote
Voltage 1.5V  (Mfg specs.. say 1.65V)
Those 1.5V do not indicate the voltage set in BIOS but the JEDEC Compliant default voltage for DDR3 modules (1.5V +/- 0.075V).  1.65V is an overvoltaged rating that is needed to compensate the overclocked/undertimed ratings OCZ adverises for those modules.

  • MSI 785GM-E51 Fails POST

I have built a new machine with the following Specifications: (All new parts)
    Mainboard: MSI 785GM-E51
    RAM: Crucial Ballistix sport 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT25664BA1339
    CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 455 Rana 3.3GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Desktop Processor ADX455WFGMBOX
    PSU: CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 V2 (CMPSU-430CXV2) 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Green WD6400AACS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
This build initially started up but then failed POST. I am getting what sounds like the normal beep followed by two short beeps and then nothing. Earlier in the day, it started up and I reviewed the BIOS settings. Shut it down and moved it from one work bench to another, inserted the O/S CD and tried to start it. Would not pass POST. Nothing had changed from when it started only a few moments before. I have removed all expansion cards and the CD drive. Disconnected everything from the main board except the RAM and the hard drive. Reseated the RAM. Tried only one stick, twice. Still the same POST of one beep followed by two rapid beeps. Using onboard video. Tried VGA and HDMI connections.
I have build many computers but this one has be stuck.  :(
    Any ideas? Thanks

Excellent advice on this forum.    Thanks to all. Up and running fine now.
I had some small washers in my shop so I put a small washer under each of the standoffs. This raised the motherboard enough to prevent any shorting.
The advice on the toenail clippers was good. Would have done that had I read the note in time.
The "two many standoffs" is also good advice. I made that mistake once early in my building career. Especially important when upgrading.
    Again, Thanks to all,
    SL

  • Got a problem with BIOS in my board MSI 785GM-E51

i have a MSI 785GM-E51 board,i got a problem with the graphic card bus interface,it still run in 8x not in 16x
i try to disable a onboard graphic on BIOS,but i not find it.
and last i try to update BIOS to v2.4 n' not work too.
    this a example;

You do not need to disable the onboard.
As for the plug-in card, there is nothing in the BIOS to make it work 8x or 16x.
Make sure your card is seated correctly, else it will work but at lower number of lanes.
What program is telling you it's 8x?

  • MSI 785GM-E51 can't install audio drivers

Hey, I would be grateful if you could help me with this problem.
When I try to install the audio drivers of this mobo(785GM-E51), Windows 7 can't find them. It offers me another set of drivers - that of VIA's, but it should be Realtek's. Normally it wouldn't be a problem, but I have a an issue with front panel microphone jack(it's not working), so I want to install the proper drivers. I tried disabling auto-installing option of Windows 7, and then install the drivers that MSI offers officially , but still the computer acts as if I didn't install anything.
EDIT: It seems that I have a different motherboard - in the document I have(about the parts of PC), it says that the computer has MSI 785GM-E51, but now that I checked the informationa about motherboard in the Windows itself, it appaars that ASrock M3A770DE is in the case. So I guess the fact that I can't install the MSI's drivers is because of different mobo. I have no idea how  this could've  happened.

Why don't you open up a case and read the model? Is the computer secured with some sort of sticker that voids warranty if opened?

  • MSI 785GM-E51 coaxial?

    Hi,
I've bought a HTPC based on MSI 785GM-E51. I haven't noticed that this motherboard has only HDMI and 6ch output for sound. I've A/V receiver with no hdmi-in connector. My question is if one of 6ch outputs is coaxial?
Sorry for my english - haven't used it for years.

I've bought a HTPC based on MSI 785GM-E51.
I presume you bought this system prebuilt then? If the system builder did not provide the mainboard manual, you can download it from here:
    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=manual&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1866
The S/PDIF bracket is an optional extra with this mainboard. You can ask the system builder if they have any available, or you may be able to find one elsewhere.

  • MSI 785GM-E51 - onboard LAN not working

    Hello,
I've problem with MSI 785GM-E51 board. Suddenly, when I booted system (Ubuntu) I've noticed that there is no network and even network device (lcpci showed no network devices). Is it possible that the onboard LAN got damaged? I tried to check BIOS and renabled oboard LAN/remove PCI devices/unplug power for a few hours etc but nothing helped. Any suggestions?

    LAN card has worked earlier?
PSU is starting to fail? If things work after several re-boots that may very well be the reason.

  • MSI 785GM-E51 - Amount of usable RAM in Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Hello i have the following system:
    Mobo: MSI 785GM-E51
    Bios: AMI v 2.3
CPU: AMD Phenom II 955 BE @ 3.2Ghz
    Memory: 2 dimms of  ( KINGSTON KVR1333D3N9/2G DDR3 2GB PC10666 1333MHZ VALUE RAM ) , Total 4Gb
GPU: Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro with 256mb RAM
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
The specific motherboard has an onboard ATI 4200 vga. I've installed the Radeon x1950 pro from day 1 and in the bios settings the onboard vga option reads disabled. However windows 7 during install always recognize both x1950 pro an 4200 and provide drivers. In windows device manager i have the 4200 disabled. However windows display that from the 4GB of installed ram only 3,75GB is usable. Is this normal? Isn't supposed to have all my memory available since the onboard vga is disabled? And if it is disabled from start how windows 7 detect it during installation and suggest corresponding drivers ? I'm looking forward for your opinions and suggestions
    Thanks in advance...

Turn memory >4GB remapping on, see your manual how to do it.
And stop bumping your message, it's NOT allowed.

  • CMOS Checksum Error on MSI 785GM-E51

Hi, I have 2 years old MSI 785GM-E51. Approximately 2 - 3 months ago, my PC just go hang without any reasons, even the mouse / keyboard won't respond to anything.
After I reset, sometimes it's fine, but sometimes it's hang again, the interval is random. Sometimes it even hang when in the POST or when i enter BIOS setting.
After several restart, it's sometimes gives me CMOS Checksum Error, so I decided to reset the CMOS using jumper method. After that my PC just works normal.
Until a week ago, my pc start to hang randomly again, the symptom is similar but this time sometimes it's not hang, but the PC just restart immediately with black / white / blue random pattern
displayed momentarily on the screen. And it always display CMOS Checksum Error. I already tried reinstalling Windows, and updating BIOS via flash disk from Live Update 5, no use.
I already tried to plug out my VGA and using the onboard one, still crash / hang randomly. I also test Memtest overnight with passing 11 pass without error.
Is it my motherboard already dead? or it's my PSU? CPU?
    Here is my complete specs:
    AMD Phenom II X4 955BE
    MSI 785GM-E51
DDR3 Dual Channel 4GB RAM (corsair, forgot the model)
    Radeon 5770
    WDC 1TB
    WDC 1.5TB
    Amacrox Free Style 650W
    Thanks in advance.

Yesterday i desperate enough and change some BIOS settings, and
surprisingly, the CPU is much cooler!
Try entering bios, hitting f6 for optimized defaults then save and exit. See if problem persists.
    Quote
As far as I remember, no, the crash / hang time i remembered is when POST / boot / startup / browsing / install app / playing games / copy file.
And one more thing, when it hangs, it really hangs, not just the windows, sometimes it even not respond to reset button, so i have to power it off. But sometimes it respond
to reset button, but with quite a long delay, it could half a minute i think.
Have you tried re-seating the cpu, memory and all of the power connectors etc?
What are the amp ratings on the 12v rail of the PSU? I found this on thier website but dont have time to dig furthur: Quote
    4-Channel 12V Rails Design
Although the VGA you list only needs 24a on a 12v rail.

what's cpuid / ram timings / spd? where i can look at it?
    http://www.cpuid.com/
When the program opens, take a screen shot of the tab that describe how your ram is running, It will show the current timings, speed, single or dual channel. Also take a ss of the spd tab, which will show the jdec standards that apply to that ram and the xmp profile. Then post the SS's to imageshack or the link and link them.

  • MSI K9N2G-Neo and Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition - BIOS Options Problem

    Hello, i have this MSI K9N2G-Neo + Athlon X2 7850 BE (REVEEN RCCT 0901SP + Tuniq TX2) + 4 x 2048MB OCZ Platinum 1066MHz, 700 watt real power supply, etc...
The problem is the bios v1.2 and new v1.3 that appears Disabled the CPU Voltage option for this cpu, in gray color or default values and i can´t change it. Now the cpu is running well at 3.2 ghz OC (200x16) some stable but not at all, i think it is a weak OC for a Black Edition CPU. Before i was using the X2 7750 BE and was the same problem with the CPU Voltages Bios´s options too.
Why in the bios isn´t enabled the CPU Voltage option ?
And why this Athlon Kuma don´t appear in the CPU SUPPORT LIST ??
This mother says that support CPUs up to 140watts and AM3... is it sure or it is a lie ?
This bios v1.3 is a few days new, Now i have to wait another 5 moths for a new one ??
    Thanks a lot.

Hi Svet... i did what u said me with numpad and nothing happended cause the cpu option is disabled. I think there is some kind of incompatibility between this mother and Kumas Core CPU... whit the 7750BE was the some issue too.
MSI official web page and 140Watts mothers support shows it.

  • PowerNow with MSI 745 Ultra and Athlon XP2600-M

Hi, i have a MSI 745 Ultra board with a XP2600-M barton processor.
Has anybody got the powernow feature to work? I have tried and i just cannot do it. Also if i want top maually set the cpu core voltage in the bios it will not go to 1.45v!
I have the latest bios, drivers and xp pro with SP2
    Cheers

Hi, thanks for the quick responses
The CPU (although a barton core) is a native native FSB 266. AXMG2600FQQ4C
i got the processor because it runs at 45W - and i wanted a low current system for bittorrent and usenet downloads. the cpu is in the epox board at the mo as it allows a 1.45v core in the bios.
i got the MSI board off ebay for a staggering 99p (bargain as its a really good board), and the processor works fine on it. I cannot remember exacety how low i can set the cpu core voltage in the bios as the cpu is back in the epox board but im sure it bottomed out at 1.5v
The latest bios i installed in the MSI board said it supported the 2600+ but the powernow just did not work.
i may get an old mobile processor like an 1800+ and see if it works with that
    Cheers
