• MSI Z87 GD65 - Hangs on black screen with 9C at bottom right

Pretty much what the title says, 'MSI Z87 GD65 - Hangs on black screen with 9C at bottom right'. Does anyone have any idea why it does this? It hangs for a while before eventually continuing with the start-up, this is most frustrating when I have an SSD and want a quick start-up. I have already looked it up in the manual to no luck. Help?

9C last for me like 1 to 3s, depending on the amount of USB devices attached. If I have only USB printer, keyboard, and mouse attached, it shows for roughly less than 1.5s.

• Black screen then sound loops on cq5320y

System specs.
Athlon 2 x4 640
4 gig memory
HP motherboard cq5320y
Corsair 500 w power supply
500 gig HD
HD 6670 video card
The issue I am having is upon playing world of tanks anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours I will get a black screen and the sound will loop. The monitor will says it is going to sleep. The only fix is a power off/on. This sometimes gets courpt files then have to run chdsk. So it does have most recent drivers and I have tried so old ones with the same effect. Today daughter was playing an online(facebook) game and same thing happen. So I put back in my first video card hd 4550 that used to not have this issue. Then started playing WOT and again got black screen and sound loop. So I am not thinking it is an video card issue since it happens with both video cards. Power supply voltage checked out okay by meter. So not sure where to go with this issue.
Only thing I am think is the ps is over power the video card through the old motherboard????
Any other ideas

That is not very likely. The power to the video card is regulated by power circuits on the motherboard.

Which OS is installed and which type is it?
When was the last time you went to the command line and used the system file checker? sfc /scannow
Have you refreshed the swap file recently?
How about your temp\tmp folder?
What are you using for an active antivirus\malware solution?
Which JRE are you using? Are you sure it is the most stable version?
Are you certain this is not a temperature related issue?
Best regards,
erico

• MSI H77MA-G43 - Windows XP, black screen with A3 code

Hi,
I've just bought mb MSI H77MA-G43 and samsung SSD830 series.
I have Windows XP.
I had to have set Sata mode to IDE beforee installing XP because Windows didn't see ssd.
Now it's ok but PC starts slowly. When I press power on button there is a black screen with A3 code and it takes some times(about 1-2 minutes) and next the Windows start normally.
What should I do to fix this issue?
Thanks for replies.

If you want to install XP in AHCI mode you need to integrate the Intel AHCI drivers into an XP installation disk (with NLITE or XP ISO Driver) or load the drivers from a floppy disk during setup (Windows XP Setup only supports floppy drives/disks for that task, unfortunately).
I know that, I integrated drivers: "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Floppy Driver for 7x series" from that link http://www.msi.com/product/mb/H77MA-G43.html#/?div=Driver&os=XP%2032 but it didn't help. SSD was still undetected, so I change SATA mode to IDE to install XP.

• MSI N660 TF 2GD5/OC black screen then frame rate drop

Had Radeon card, moved to this gtx 660, but now I get black screens randomly after a few minutes, at which point my framerate drops to unplayable. If I restart the game it is fine. Having problems with Borderlands 2, Crysis 2 and Dishonored. l4d2 and Walking dead seemed okay though.
Uninstalled AMD drivers, and ran driver sweep. I have the newest drivers from the nvidia website. My power supply is more than powerful enough. Doesn't seem to be any overheating. Searched online, but not finding any solutions.
Very frustrating, never run into graphics card problems like this before.
Any help would certainly be appreciated!

Try monitoring temps while playing with Afterburner OSD and report max temps: >>How to use MSI Afterburner<<
Max temp was 60 playing Crysis 2.
There were no spikes in any of the graphs.

Two other things:
1.) Are you able to test the card in another computer?
2.) If it works fine there, try updating the mainboard's bios.
No, I can't easily test it in another computer.

• Black Screen with Sound on OpenGL Apps (nVidia GeForce4 MX 440)

After a couple weeks of a non-stop search for a solution that has taken me through countless forums and Google queries, I've come to the realization that I need some help before I drive myself insane. I am running an old emachine T3065 with an AMD Athlon XP 2.167 MHz processor, 1024 MB of RAM, 160 GB HD, and a good old integrated (POS) nVidia NV18 GeForce4 MX 440 displayed on a widescreen Acer X191W LCD panel. I followed the instructions dictated in the nVidia installation wiki to a 'T', and can start GDM and log into Gnome without any conflict. Then when I attempt to launch a 3D OpenGL game or application, I'm stuck with a black screen where I can still hear sound (in fullscreen mode) or, in a few windowed programs such as foobillard and Google Earth, a three-dimensional shape without textures. Here's a couple screenshots:

As you can see, direct rendering is enabled. This left me fairly perplexed.
Issuing glxgears returned a smooth animation without error running at an average of 1750 frames per second. I then began toying with my xorg.conf settings by turning "RenderAccel" on and off, trying the different "NvAGP" ranges, etc. All without revealing a solution. Here is my current xorg.conf:

Perhaps the warnings pertaining to my monitor and ACPI are pertinent?
Is it possible that there is some kind of issue with my configuration and OpenGL textures since I can still see some non-textured 3D objects? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am beyond frustrated with the matter. On a sidenote, in my latest issue of Linux Pro Magazine, I booted up a Sabayon live disc that game with the magazine and I had the same error except that a message blatantly said that I did not have OpenGL support. Anyway, I apologized if I rambled a bit and I hope that we'll be able to find a solution. Cheers!

I guess I forgot to disclose that bit, haha. I'm currently using the 'nvidia-96xx' drivers which I thought were the correct set for the GeForce4 series. I recall reading that in a wiki somewhere, but I could be mistaken. I thought 'nvidia-71xx' was for GeForce2 and earlier.I really hope it is as simple as me installing the wrong driver.

• Satellite L750D - Black screen with sound in media players

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L750D and running Windows 7. When I play a video file (any format) windows media player opens and starts to play but I only get sound, no picture its a black screen. I tried 2 other media players (VLC and Power DVD) and the same thing happens.
Can anyone help?
I've searched online but nothing has helped so far.
Thanks.

Thanks PauPau for your reply.
I have seen this fix in another online forum, however when i open Options in WMP, there is no Advanced button on the performance tab. I have been unable to locate any options for the Video Accelaration, and no options for 'overlays'.
This problem is not just with WMP, i've tried other players and get the same problem. When WMP is open on the video file, i can see the thumb nails with a picture of the video, but when i open them the picture is black but sound is ok. This is the same for the other media players as well.
Another suggestion i read was to turn off WMP in windows programs, then reboot and then turn WMP back on. This didn't work either. I have also checked the driver and there is no yellow flag on this to say there is a problem.
My last option at this point is to resotre back to factory settings, but i'll use this as a last resort.
Your suggestions are appreciated.

• Freeze on blank screen with sound loop when playing steam games

Hi,
I would really appreciate some advice. I've been troubleshooting this problem without success,
Problem:
Playing games on steam*, at some point, sometimes 5 minutes in, sometimes 2 hours in:
- Screen goes blank,
- last sound loops continuously,
- computer completely unresponsive, requires hard shut down
- On restart I get almost the same report every time, though sometimes it referes to CPU 0 and sometimes CPU 2, a sample:

*Other points*
- Machine is still under 1 yr warranty
- I'm overseas studying design and I really cant afford to to take it in and not have a machine for 2 weeks. I'd really like to exhaust all options before taking it in. I'm also worrying that they will run the hardware test as I did and tell me: no problems found.

I'm so ****** off that it's been weeks and no solution has been provided for this. In the middle of video editing, watching quicktime videos, youtube, or playing any games the computer hard freezes with a black screen and looping audio of about 1/2 second.
FIX IT!

For a few months now my macbook pro 2010 shuts down automatically after some times of working (sometime 2 minutes ... sometimes 2 hours !)
Black screen
If a sound was played, it looped
Keyboard keep being lightened
My macbook seems to freeze ... the only solution is to shutdown by pressing a loing time the shutdown button.
My battery is brand new and the harddrive is ok (bought less than 1 year ago).
Here is the report I've automatically got when I relaunch.
Can someone explain me what the **** is happening ?
Thanks a lot !

Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff
dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x7a802000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.4.0)@0x83c05000->0x84019fff
dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000->0x8378dfff

dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
Good luck,
Clinton

• Qosmio X305-Q701 - Black Screen and sound loop while gaming

Hi,
My Qosmio X305-Q701 has recently started crashing while playing any games. Never had a problem out of it until the past month. All games now from WoW and F.E.A.R. to solitare. It will just randomly go to a black screen and the last sound byte while loop over and over requiring a hard reboot.
Graphics card is Nvidia geforce 9700m gts series.
All drivers and directx is up to date running windows vista. I am not very tech savy so any help or expierence with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I have the exacrt same issues, and have had them for some time. I tried all the software solutions, and mechanical solutions that I could perform myself ( cleaning the airflow vents, and cooling fan ) Nothing has worked. Sad thing is, no real solutions are ever given to this, so let me lay it down like this. The video card is a P.O.S. and is at fault. Only way to fix it is to replace it. Preferably with one equivelant, but from a different manufacturer. In all honesty, this is the worst computer I've ever owned. Even sadder is its the most expensive one I've ever bought. I've tried for help through the place I bought it ( Best Buy, which I am having my own difficulties dealing with ) and Toshiba support as well. No one has offered an explanation as to why this model isn't recalled, and or replaced because its a lemon. Good luck in getting it fixed. My own solution is to cut my losses, get a new computer ( which will never be a Toshiba again ) and chalk it up as lesson learned.

• Diablo 3 - ROS Black Screen with Sound

After starting D3 in Full Screen (win 8.1), the screen is black but you can hear the music in the background. I had to exit and manually reset the config file to start D3 in Window Mode. By doing this, however, I then cannot alter the screen size down from the Max. I want to do this to conserve energy when using my GS60 Ghost with no power. In Ultra mode, I barely get 60 mins of play from a full charge.
Any work around to get D3 to start in Full Screen properly??

I saw the [Blue Post] in D3 forum (See following links).
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/9873787537
Absolutely, it looks like the D3 problem. I tried to modify the parameter of [DisplayModeWindowMode]. And it really works for me. Following are the steps.
1. Click the [Search].
2. Search for [D3Prefs]. And we can find [D3Prefs.txt] in result.
3. Modify [DisplayModeWindowMode] to [2]. (Default is 0)
(Note)
DisplayModeWindowMode:
[1] is Windows mode.
[2] is full screen

• GS70 - Does not boot - black screen with solid white dash

Sorry for the long post - I've been beating my head against this problem all day, filed a report ticket and really need help from anyone who has ideas.
Yesterday evening after finally relenting and allowing the patch Tuesday updates to install on my GS70 Stealth I tried to power on my computer and it remained stuck at the MSI logo. I waited 3 hours with no success before powering it off and attempting to access the bios by hitting the delete button. The screen turned black except for one non-blinking white dash near the center of the screen. This screen also remains indefinitely and requires a hardware power off to work. I've tried all of the function key presses and recovery shortcuts to no avail.
Eventually I tried to boot into linux via a live USB. I still could not access the bios but, to my surprise, so long as this USB is in my system, Windows happily boots. After this I tried to revert to a system restore point before the updates but that did not resolve the problem. I also tried to update the BIOS but there is no way to install BIOS updates that I know of that doesn't require accessing the old BIOS first (which I cannot do because the black screen with a white dash is still all that shows up). I tried forcing the UEFI bios to load through windows recovery settings with no luck either.
I've sent in an RMA/Support request and hopefully MSI will repair or replace my device but I sent it in for an RMA literally less than two months ago and to be having to do it again so soon is starting to turn me off of the product. For me to insure and ship my device to MSI costs a little over $100 each time which is rapidly turning this $1600 product into an $1800 one and turning me from an MSI brand loyalist to a 'one-star-review everywhere' evangelist. Is it possible that something MSI did during the last RMA screwed up my motherboard (they replaced the disfunctional steel series keyboard with a new marginally more functional steel series keyboard)? Does MSI ever cover the shipping costs for an RMA if the RMA is a result of damage that they caused to the device? Is there anything I should do to try to avoid burning more money trying to get a luxury-priced product I've already paid for to function?

i had similar problem myself on my first GS70 it has some sort of bios problem that it random hangs itself :/ causes OS not to boot and bios refuses to load but i managed to get my recovery USB to boot but not bios yet so i sent laptop off for repair they replaced the motherboard so i got it back then i had an faulty gpu :/ so i took it back and got money back so i bought new one some where else since than i havent had problem so this sort of problem sounds like bios firmware isnt booting propertly :/ so have you tried removing msata and HDD from laptop and then power laptop on? to see if bios gets forced on if so power it off put msata back on and so then power laptop back on and bios shall work again

Yes! Listen to Svet and me!
Please, not volts, WATT. To be a bit technical, it is the ampères that make the Watts, by multipication with the current in volts. For example your processor uses the 12 volt line, and wants 89 watt. What multiplied by 12 makes 89? To that you add the power requirements of the rest of your system. You also add 30% or more to each power requirements, as that is about how much is lost in heat, aging, poor connections, wishful specifications and things.
You should have a PSU with something like this list mentioned: 12V - 18-20 amp., 5V - 30 amp., 3,3V - 30 amp. This one is a little over the top, but will last you a while: http://www.dustinhome.se/pd_5010129914.aspx

• MSI GE60 cannot access BIOS (black screen + white underscore)

So I've tried accessing the BIOS using the DEL key but when I do it the only thing that shows up is a black screen with a white unblinking underscore. Why is this? My BIOS version is : E16GCIMS.517

You can check with the nearby local retailer first and see if they have the model you like.

• FM2-A55M-E33 won't boot if LAN cable fitted, black screen with 99 in rh corner

Just bought a new Zoostorm 7872-1212/A computer, which has the MSI FM2-A55M-E33 motherboard.
I installed and registered Windows 7, and download all updates etc without any problems last night.
Started it up this morning, and it didn't post.
All I had was a black screen, with 99 in the bottom right corner.
Switched off, then tried again, still no joy.
Removed all cables, re-fitted just mouse, keyboard and monitor, and it started.
Powered of and refitted LAN cable.
Powered on - black screen and 99.
Powered off, bought new LAN cable, fitted it into another port on my router, powered up, black screen and 99.
Thinking it's a BIOS setting, opened BIOS
Set Sata drive as 1st drive, DVD as 2nd and disabled all other drives
Set wake up events to BIOS, RTC disabled, all other events on
Saved and powered of
Started up, and still back screen and 99
Anybody got thoughts?
