Msi 7900gt nwn 2

Some of you might remember me from 10 months ago........
I had some problems with artifacting and lockup in 3dmark07 which seemed to be cured with a better power supply.
Everything has been great until now. I completed playing Oblivion with no problems. A few weeks back I fired up Never Winter Nights 2 and although it runs....I get some crazy artifacting after playing for 10-15 minutes.
Now I'm starting to notice a few white pixels on my desktop that don't seem to go away.
The card is a MSI 7900GT ....I have NOT overclocked in any way....simply ruunning stock. I opened up the case and everything looks clean.....blew out any dust.....still noticing the above problems.
I've had this board for just a little less than 1 year...possibly 11 months.
Any ideas?

Ok....
Ran ATI Tool and scanned for artifacts several times.
Temps started out at 62 degrees and climbed to                                           87 degrees consistantly.
Test would run approx 7.5 minutes and then it would start beeping. The display window would go yellow at this point. Below object in display window it would say ....
Delta of 15,973,477 in 134635 pixels (117.16 AVG)  No errors for 07:33
Then I would get a dialog box that would say ...Could not compare images,if running debug version of direct x switch to retail version.
After I clicked OK on dialog box, the yellow display would change back to the object which would start rotating at this point and the bottom would say
556 FPS, 516 AVG..
So, what next.
Oh....I didn't remove the side panel.....I'll try that.......

  • Opinion of buying MSI 7900GT

As mentioned above, i'm planning to buy a new graphic card and MSI 7900GT is my ideal choice. Did my mobo fully support this card and should I upgrade my mobo bios to the latest version 3.A.
    Motherboard: MSI K8N SLI Platinum
    Current BIOS ver.: 3.1

    Yap Kusanagi,
All 8X AGP Vid Cards work with all 4X and 8X AGP Mobos, all 8X AGP Mobos work with all 8X and 4X Vid Cards, all PCI-E Vid Cards work with all PCI-E Mobos, all PCI-E Mobos work with all PCI-E Vid Cards.
    Take Care,

  • MSI 7900GT memory speed?

Is the MSI 7900GT using the nVidia reference spec's. I'd like to confirm the memory speed because when I check the memory speeds on MSI's website, it says
    • 450MHz core clock speed
    • 660MHz 256MB GDDR3 memory
    See this link. http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=NX7900GT-T2D256E&class=vga
However, the nVidia 7900GT reference board is suppose to be 1.32GHZ memory speed. Why is the MSI version of the 7900GT slower memory speed? Or am I reading this wrong. Or does the MSI website have a typo mistake on their website. Please reply to this because if this video card has slower memory than the reference design, then I should purchase a different brand name.
The MSI card I am referring to is MSI 7900GT, P/N:MS-V801-045, also known as NX7900GT-T2D256E
    Thanks

Now overclock that bastard! 750 (1500)MHz should be kitten play for the memory.
I have had my MSI NX7900GT clocked at 570/1600 for over a week now and it has ran smooth at those settings.. Now i did replace the stock cooling with ARCTIC COOLING AVC-NV5R3 NV Silencer Rev.3 and Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound ..
It idles at 37-38F at those setting and scored a 8920 on 3Dmark05 with an AMD 64 3200+ running at 2009mhz stock..
    I love this Card

  • Msi 7900gt problems

    Hey folks!
    Just got a new system:
    MSI P965 Neo-f motherboard
    E6400 Core 2 Duo
    320G Seagate HD
    Lite On 18X dvd burner
    1G ddr2 667 kingston ram
    MSI 7900GT
    500 Watt P.S.
    Running Win XP home.
This system was put together locally.
The MSI 7900gt seems to be experiencing symptoms of the RAM problems others have mentioned here and in fact can be found easily with a google search on "7900 rma".
I first noticed this when running 3dmark06.....after the first several tests it locks up for several minutes and then the PC reboots. I believe it is during the deep freeze section of 3dmark06 where it freezes(appropriate).
    My 7900gt is   "NX7900GT-VT2D156E-HD"  s/n 602-V066-05SB0605127869
It came with Serious Sam. Another thread here mentions this number as having been the fixed 7900gt's......but that same thread had a user with a s/n real close to mine having the same problem.....  the "0605" is a date meaning May 2006. Apparently these boards were still using bad memory as of that date. Over on eVGA site it seems they had to stop using Samsung memory and go to Inferion( these details are from memory ) before their problems with the 7900 GT were solved.
My quandary at this point ......I will be taking the PC back to the local shop(I've only had it 1 week) and asking him to replace the card...of course. Is it worth it to update drivers first and check? I was planning on it ...... but it's probably a waste of time..Right now it is running 84.19.I downloaded the 94.17( I think..the one from the MSI d/l page), but I haven't installed it yet. Do I really need to use drivercleaner after removing the old driver and before installing new? Is this a painless process? I do not have a floppy ...do I need?
I know some of you will tell me to check the Power Supply specs.....I don't even want to open the case till the shop has directed me.....
Since his supplier will probably ship another one of these from the same LOT, should I try and get him to swap it for an entirely different card? I do not wish to go thru 5 of these to find a good one! He charged approx $280 for this card.....and he seems to really like MSI stuff. Should I go for an ATI based card? What ATI based card would be comparable performance wise to the 7900gt? The 1900? 1950? Same cost all things considered?
This is a general purpose machine with an emphasis on gaming ...I want to run Oblivion at reasonable levels...OBLIVION is the reason I selected this card, but I have heard that Oblivion gets along better with ATI stuff( as far as AA and HDR being enabled at the same time).
OK....I've spouted enough here....am I jumping the gun?  Anyone have ANY suggestions?
I am open to any comments or help you guys can provide!
Thanks in advance for your replies!

Wader had a different PSU at the beginning and switched to the OCZ which did correct some issues as he stated. I also don't recommend gear I have no experience with so I simply do not recommend Antec. I have used them back in the day but I have no experience with the newer one's and do with the OCZ I use now. Nor am I saying the Antec is bad either. I simply don't know one way or the other about them. Some Antecs I have seen folks use at a couple stages along the way did have issues and Antec did work with folks to get those issues sorted. So just saying it is an Antec and they are good is not something I do either. I preffer to give folks some ideas based on my experience rather than be a fanboy of a given product.
As you may have guessed I have been a tech for some time and yes I have seen drivers cause issues with Vid Cards and other devices. I also commonly test quite a few drivers with my own vid cards as well. And yes I have seen artifacting due to drivers. It does happen all the time.
However most cards that artifact are not driver issues. Many were overclocked or run hot. That does not mean that someone should assume just because a card is showing artifacts that the card is bad. It can be a driver issue or other things causing such to happen. I recommend trying to look at some of them first like having enough power or trying a few drivers. PSU issues can usually be spotted when folks have substandard 12v amps now days. Trying drivers is free and simply takes a bit of time.
If everything else is OK then RMA the card. Anyone can get a bad card. If there is a bad series or even a bad batch of cards that is upto the maker and the retailers to sort out which usually happens quite quickly. Granted you had experience with a bad batch or series card. However that issue should be behind everyone at this stage as I can't imagine retailers keeping them around since you had your issues. What MSI did to make the card better is beyond me. However I seriously have doubts that any of those cards are still anywhere to be found. If perhaps someone has one an RMA will handle that. Any maker can have those isssues as well. Just because MSI does not come to the forum to tell all does not mean they do not respond to these and work with there distribution and retail channels to solve them as quickly as they can. So what I would say to you is that while you had an issue and maybe it was not handled well through the retailer does not make MSI a bad maker.
Everything is a process. Even troubleshooting here. The folks that help out here could likely solve the problems in minutes if they were in front of the computer. However we have to work with info we are given and can ask for. This does make the process slower. However we can start to track issues as well. One thing we did see early on with these cards was the fact that quite a few early cards did have issues and that info was gathered. However before any conclussions or details could be sorted MSI was already working with their channels to get updated cards out there. You happened to get caught in this process for which we all felt bad for what happened to you. Newegg is usually reliable for taking these issues into account and getting them sorted quickly. Why this happened with yours we have no clue here other than to know it was not normally what happens. I understand your reluctance to buy MSI vid cards now. I have had much the same happen to me with ATi cards and thus my reluctance to ever own an ATi card again for any reason. However it happened to me with a 100 lot of cards and not just a few. As it was never sorted and my company was stuck with them I think I may have a better reason to dislike a given company. So yes I do feel your pain. However that said I think that MSI is great with their support of their gear and while sometimes things happen what you experienced has little to do with what started this topic. Wader may just have a bad card. Let him try the driver and let's see what he finds out and go from there. If the card is bad then he can simply RMA it and all is good. If it is a driver then he won't have to do more.
Wader I only have what is said to go on. I believe you when you say your not into some conspecary mode. It was what it was starting to sound like and yes we do get nutjobs here all the time that try to make a consperacy out of any little thing so you can understand my position I hope. It could be heat if you have low case cooling or a snakes nest of wires blocking airflow. All these new cards run very warm and can heat up easy. However if your getting good airflow then this should not happen. Overheating can also be caused from badly applied TIM between the componants and the Heatsync. However as checking that can also void the warrenty I would preffer to tell you to RMA the card rather than redo the TIM material even though I redo all my own as I get them. I sismply do not trust machine applied TIM. LOL OK TIM is Thermal Interface Material or the goop betweeen the componants and the HeatSync. And we don't need to physically shake hands either. I think we just did lad.

7900GT needs a lot of power, so you need a good quality stable PSU. without knowing more about your PSU, it is difficult to say if your problem is power related or not
the other thing you need to try is to test this VGA card in another known working computer, then you can see if the problem follows the card, or stays with your computer

  • Need to RMA my 7900gt

So I've been putting up with on and off artifacting on my MSI 7900gt for around 6-8 months now, however the card has basically become unusable, with colored and misspelled text on boot screen, huge colored shapes, flashing and colored specs on the desktop and huge amounts of random extrusions in games.
I've decided to RMA my card, after using my onboard video (6100) which functions fine, and after trying the 7900gt in another computer and instantly getting the same results. I left my computer off for over 24 hours and on boot up I received the same issues. I've been researching the card for quite a while now and have come up with countless sightings of basically the same issues I have. I want to RMA my card, however when I go to the Australian (my location) RMA section, http://rma.msi.com.tw/rma/login.aspx , it ask me for a "Login ID" and password. I did a search on the forums, tried my forum user name and nothing.
So whats up? Did I miss a really straight forward instruction? Should I try going through customer support? Also how does the RMA process occur, do I simply mail the card in its box to MSI with the issued RMA number? I'm quite disappointed with the way in which the card has degraded (not to the error of MSI, but nVidia) and really would like to get the card replaced in the quickest amount of time possible.
Thanks for anyone who can be bothered to help and again, I'm sorry if I missed some straight foward instructions but I'm fed up with trying every possible solution to fix my card and the last thing I feel like is being stumped by my last remaining option to RMA my card.

  • K9N Platinum SLI beep codes?

    Upgraded my machine with:
    K9N Platinum SLI
    AMD X2 4600+
    2 Gigs of Corsair DDR2 4-4-4-12
    MSI 7900GT
    BFG 650 watt psu
My computer was running fine at first, but now I'm getting some weird stuff.
The machine will run like a champ for like 10min and then it will just turn off, as if the power went out.  But I just bought the power supply so I don't think that is the problem.
When I try to turn the computer back on it makes 2 fast beeps and then 8 slower beeps and wont post any video.
I tried removing all my other components, reseting the bios, reseating all my cards/cables/memory, replaced the memory and I couldn't get it to boot so I left it alone.  Came back in an hour and it booted right up.  But after 10 min again... same problem.
Any idea what those 8 beeps mean?  And yes I tried using search T_T

    Quote from: boomstick1968 on 25-September-06, 20:00:12
Ok, my start up beeps have changed. At first, it was two high pitched beeps and then one low, now, for some reason, and I've made no changes, it's a high-low-high-low. What do these different beeps mean? Everything seems to running ok, but I'd like to know what my computer is doing.
Hi Folks, my first post here so excuse any stupid questions
Anyway, I have just built a new system almost the same as the last posters. It runs perfectly and was the most trouble free system I have ever built. But one thing bothers the heck out of me. As with the last posters system everytime it starts it gives 2 fast high beeps then one low. All fast. This seems a departure from the normal one beep most systems give at start to indicate all is well. So is this normal for this board? Anyone else have this? I have tested absolutely everything and everything is fine. The system is super stable and never does anything silly. Just these different beeps have me confused.  Inclined to leave well enough alone anyway. Thanks

  • PLZ Help. PC won't turn off because of EAX Mod

Help! Ever since i installed my X-Fi Fatalty, when I go to turn my computer off, it says now ending EAXModule. After that, the computer won't turn off, but I can't do anything because it says the window station is shutting down. It is very annoying because all my settings aren't saved and I have to turn the computer off manually.
    My system:
    Athlon 64 4000+ OCed to 2.64 GHz
    Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
    2GB Kingston Hyper X
    2 MSI 7900GT's in SLI
    50GB Western Digital Raptor
    Creative X-Fi Fatalty
    Antec 550 Watt PSU

I'm also having a similar problem now, however, if I wait a minute or two the system does shut down. I'm using an ASUS M2N32 WS Professional board, with the my X-Fi Platinum card in the second PCI-X slot; I couldn't get it to work at all in the board's one PCI slot, and the first PCI-X slot has my RAID card in it (Areca ARC-0). My GeForce 7900 GTX is in the second PCI-E slot, since it's too big to fit in the first and leave room for the RAID card.
For all that, the sound card, video, everything seems to work perfectly except for this problem with the EAX module at shutdown. It's very annoying. I've tried stopping CTDetect from running at startup, I've tried completing the registration. Nothing seems to work, but I want my Creative applications. Any ideas?

  • Help Diagnosing a Lock-Up Issue

    Here is my setup:
    -Conroe E6400
    -975x Platinum v2
    -2GB Corsair 6400 memory
    -MSI 7900GT
    -WD SATA 120GB HD
    -2 CD Burners (EIDE)
    -No overclocking
Set this up last night and everything worked great. Windows XP loaded, SP2, Firefox, Zone Alarm...the basics. System ran solid for an hour or two.
Today booted up to continue setting the machine up....got a lock-up in Windows. Everything just froze. Rebooted and it happened again.
So, I decided to reinstall Windows and keep it really simple. Now the system installs the basic XP Setup files and as its installing it will lock up within a few minutes of completing the Win XP install. I even get the BSOD and a message saying Windows was halted.
I might think that it was an overheating problem, but if I reset the system and start over I can go another 10 minutes or longer w/o issue. I've had the system on for 2 hours and it only lock up in Windows...never in DOS or during the first part of XP Setup. And if it were an overheating issue, why did I not see it yesterday after I had the system running for 2 hours straight?
Any tips for how to diagnose since all of my components are new? Thanks.

poorly seated graphics? could it be a poor chassis that didn't really follow the dimensions specs? Or a poor motherboard which didn't follow the form factor and cause the board to skewed when inserted into a chassis?
It kind of a goofy deal with the pci_e slot. At the rear it is really narrow width and the card has to be really pushed down to get it into it. It's hard to get out too.

  • Nv4_disp & nv4_mini.sys

Never had a problem with my vid card, (if that IS the problem), until I loaded Medal of Honor:Airborne. Can play for a few minutes, then the screen turns different colors and has a bunch of flashing dashes on the screen. System will eventually shutdown and upon restart is where I got the errors listed in "subject".
After the first error, I updated the vid drivers for my MSI 7900GT. Still having the same issues. Lowered screen resolution to 1024x768 and was able to play a little longer, but the end result was the same.
System specs: AMD 64 Dual core 4200, MSI 7900GT, SB Audigy2, 2 gigs Corsair RAM and a 650W PS.
Any help would be appreciated. The card will be 1 yr. old on the 22nd, so if I need to RMA it let me know.
I have looked up the nv4_disp error on the net and found that it's a common problem w/ nVidia as far back as the 5000 series up to the new 8000 series. Yet I haven't found a clear answer as to how to resolve issue.
    Thanks, H-

Seems to be specified game problem then, since other games working fine.
You can stay up to date with VGA drivers, and up to date with game patches about that game and hope that problem will be resolved.
You can have a ask the support of this game about the problem.

  • 8800gt oc

    Hi all!
I have been having problems with my MSI 7900GT and have decided to upgrade to a MSI 512 8800GT OC model. I had the store order it today...I know the supply chain is having trouble keeping these in stock, so I don't know when it'll arrive.
I was wondering how many people have these already and how they have been?
I've also seen conflictig info on whether there is any games bundled.....one review said it came with LOTR online and some other racing game....anyone know?
After it gets in I will be RMA'ing the 7900GT to MSI...it's only 11 months old and is heavily artifacting in NWN2 and some in the Witcher. I don't know what they will send me back, but I will probably use it in my wife's PC.

I realize that the card is an excellent deal.......that is NOT the question.....if there are several editions out there and one of them includes a $50.00 game that I intend to purchase also for the same price..guess which one I will look to buy?
My real question was if ANYONE had actually bought this card yet? The card is VERY new and sometimes there are problems with anything new...so I am looking for EXPERIENCES with this card....such as overheating, artifacting, etc?
So far NOBODY that HAS the card has responded...
    Again, anyone?

  • Any advice

    Hi all,
Im new here so let me say hi to everyone.
Ok im wondering if anyone may have any ideas why this would be happening coz im kinda lost with it now. I have a msi 7900gt card (installed drivers 91.31) and i keep getting rips/tears when playing games, it started out kind of random and recently i have been checking the gpu temp quite often and mostly at desktop its around 55degrees and in game its about 60 to 63 degrees. I have checked inside to see if the fans working (which it is) and if there is any dust problems ( which there isnt) but its kind of got me pulling my hair out now
anyways any ideas on what maybe happening would be great, many thanks
    steve

Thanks for clearing that up m8 was kinda worried that the temp maybe causing this.

  • System Temprature

Need some help! Recently built this system and my system temperature reads between 55-61 C, CPU is fine between 27-31 C. Do I need to get worried about SYS temp? It does seem very high.
    (K8N Diamond Plus,AMD 4800+ X2,2X Maxtor 300GB Raid 0, 2X Samsung DVD RW, 2X 1GB Mem, MSI 7900GT VGA,Gigabyte Poseidon Case 2x 120 mm Fans ,KMEX 500W (+12V1/V2, +5V, +3.3V, -12V, +5VSB))

so, if you open the case, the temp drops down to 35? i guess that's a bad airflow, but i still cannot explain why the CPU temp is that low. it should be at least in the vicinity of the case temperature. do you have any funnel guiding the air from the CPU fan out the case?

  • 975x Power-Up Freezes

    System:
    Conroe E6400 (No overclocking)
    MSI 7900GT
    MSI 975x Power-Up (BIOS 7.0)
    One SATA HD from WD
    One TDK CD Burner (IDE)
    One NEC DVD Burner (IDE)
Corsair XMS2 Memory (Rated for DDRII-800, running at 1.8V)
BIOS settings are not tweaked or changed other than turning the floppy off and tweaking the parallel port settings
System ran fine for one day with XP and then I began getting random freezeups in Windows
Decided to reinstall XP (wipe out partition and start fresh )and I cannot get it to install.
With Windows XP RTM it hangs with 23% left to go every time or BSOD that says: Windows discovered an error and halted the system.
With Windows XP SP2 it hangs while 'Installing Devices' with 34 Minutes to go
What are the *possible* problems? Things that come to mind:
    1) SATA/PATA config....didn't touch the settings and the BIOS seems to detect everything fine
    2) Memory...but why does it lock-up virtually the same way each time?
    3) CPU...BIOS says the CPU stays 42C....seems fine
    4) Video card must be running in VGA mode
    5) System has never locked in DOS or BIOS mode....so I don't think it's general overheating
As you can imagine it's frustrating because it's difficult to know where to troubleshoot. Any ideas on where to start since the 1st time I built and started the system it ran great for 2-3 hours until, I shut down and started it back up the next day.
    Thanks In Advance,
    s

    This is a Conroe system.
The system shipped with 7.0 and MSI's LiveUpdate does not show a newer version available to me. So, even if 7.0 is an issue, there is no upgrade I can find.
...up to 5 hours of use and no freezes. Plugged my X-Fi back in and have sound too....no freezes.
My reply was not to you.
I too have a MSI 975 and Conroe. The shipping bios is junk. The beta 711 is better and now I see that there is a 714 beta bios that you can get from Marcsus if you pm him. I did and when I can get it I will try it out. Your psu is fine for what you are using.
