Pull out the power cable from the wall (AC 220/110v)
Move the clear CMOS jumper to position 2-3 for a few seconds, then back to position 1-2 and plug the power back.

  • P4 Northwood 533FSB on an MSI 845 Ultra ARU

Just got a simple question here.  Have not been able to find an answer anywhere, so thought I would ask.  Does the MSI 845 Ultra-ARU support the P4 Socket 478 533 FSB proc?  I was running a 478 1.6 @ 2.1 on it, and wanted to get the pops a 2.4 to run on it, so he would not have to overclock.  Game him the board, and Alpha, vid., and memory, and wanted to polish it off with this proc to get him off of the old 700 Athlon (just isn't right  to keep yo dad @ 700 when you have 2 @ 2.1  :D ).
    TIA for the input.
    Darrell

Doesn't support 533mhz FSB cpus. Only 400 but up to 2.6ghz. You can get your Pops a 2.4ghz 400mhz fsb cpu.

  • Help needed pls!!! GF4 Ti4800 SE 8X on MSI 845 Ultra?

    Hi folks,
    I just purchased a GF4 Ti4800 SE 128mb 8X.
I own a MSI 845 Ultra ARU (6398), I understand this board only supports up to 4X AGP, but the GF4 card should be able to "downgrade" to work with a 4x motherboard, I hope.
Booting up is ok, but graphics start to tear on the window start-up screen. At the desktop, once i click the mouse, the desktop will hang like for 1 sec, then the monitor switch to Black screen, and then back desktop, this repeats when i click the mouse. There are also some weird colors here and there.
    Can anyone pls advise?

Is there any way to resolve the warm boot issue with this board (845-ultra aru)????.
I overclocked my 1.8A @ 2.4 (133*18) and worked 100% stable., but  when i restart my PC i get the warm boot issue and the FSB is reset to 100.
    Anyone please????

Frustrating isn't it?  The only way I could circumvent it was by doing vidpin wrapping (wrapping pins 1-3) so my vcore range was 1.8 through 1.85 and I never had an warm boot issues running my 1.8a at 2.4.  It's a drastic solution.  Since this board now appears in MSI's archives, rather than actively sold motherboards, it seems unlikely we are going to see any fix for this issue.  From what I understand, most 845D motherboards suffer this problem but one manufacturer managed to fix it (can't remember which).
The other nasty limitation is the lack of core voltages above 1.65 and I don't think we'll ever see that changed either.

  • PSU Query for MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU running 3000xp

    Hi There,
Before buying a new Motherboard I was just wondering if the problems I'm getting are related to the PSU which is about 5 years old. I've just upgraded my processor to a Athlon 3000 XP 333 FSB which goes into the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E v1.X) motherbaord, which I've upgraded the Bios to version 5.7, I've also  upgraded my graphics card to the Leadtek Geforce FX5900XT which also plugs into the PSU. When setting my fsb to 166 my PC either won't boot or when I try to run say 3DMark it just freezes, but when I set my FSB to 133 it works fine. I was wondering if it is trying to draw too much power from the CPU.
I don't really know how to write the PSU details down correctly so I've just copied everything from the unit.

  • Overclocking the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU

    Hey,
I read some reviews with the kt3 Ultra ARU and i have read that people have been getting the FSB up to around 167? Yet, i fail to get it past 151?  Any suggestions?

    768 mb pc2100
    TDK 40x12x48

    ATI Radeon 8500 (GIGABYTE)

you would have more chance of it booting at 166
than 151 as the divider kicks in at 152
at 166 fsb your video and pci slots are at the correct speed
it can be done if you have been lucky with the cpu you gotlink

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU 5.7 BIOS and SoudBlaster Cards - Audigy

I have flashed my BIOS to 5.7 Version and my sound card start to make a lot of noise (crackling) when play AC3 or DVD. If you dont want to use the new AMD CPU 333 FSB you dont need to flash the BIOS - I have Flashed to 5.6 again but, if you want to use a 333 FSB CPU you can flash the BIOS to version 5.7 and if have sound problems use the PCI latency patch for VIA chipsets.
VIA chipset MotherBoard owners who have through all of the above and still have sound problems with their Soundblaster cards, might want to look into the PCI latency patch for VIA chipsets - get it here:
    http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/
(scroll down the page there just a little to get to it).
There's also a similar page about resolving sound problems on Via chipset based computers here:

Since my chip is an unlocked, I cannot easily run it at the default, but I can underclock it. At 100x6.0=600mhz, USB does not work, as well as 100x12.5. Same with 133x6.0 and 133x12.5. It appears to make no difference underclocking or overclocking.
I downloaded the right BIOS listed on MSI's KT3 Ultra-ARU page. I don't think the BIOSes are different anyway, since the same files, changelog, and etc are also listed for the Ultra-2 board.
A thing to note, that this is the onboard VIA-controller USB ports doing this. My Ultra-ARU's NEC-controller USB 2.0 ports work fine in both Win2k and Linux if I hook my mouse and keyboard up in those. This is not an ideal solution for me though.

  • MSI KT3 ultra aru Western Digital 200GB raid problem

    Hi!
    This is what I've got.

    Promise 100 IDE-controller
    Creative Geforce MX 440
    Lite-on LTR-40125W
    NEC ND-1300 DVD
    And the configuration:
    IDE1: Seagate (Master)
    IDE2: WD1800BG (Cabel Select)
IDE3(Raid1): Maxtor 6LO80J4 (Master) and Maxtor 6Y080L0 (Slave) raided as an single drive
    IDE4(Raid2): WD2000JB (Cable Select)
    IDE5(IDE-controller1):
    IDE6(IDE-controller2): NEC ND-1300 (Master) and Lite-on LTR-40125W (Slave)
    And the Software:
I've updated all the software drivers so I've got the newest and I'm currently runnign Win2k SP3 with almost every patch installed on it.
    And finally the problem:
When I've hook my WD2000JB to the on-board raid everything seems to be working normaly. The bios finds the drive and makes a new array. Win2k boots up and finds the drive and I can create an partition. But when I've try to format it it the computer starts to freeze for a while and then acts like normal again. The HDD-led blinks as it should during the "normal" time, but when the comp. freezes it stops blinking. The formatation stops at 7% and the HDD-led stops lighting. I don't get an error eventhough it was several hours since it stoped. And the formatation takes like 30min for 1%.
When I connect the WD2000JB to the IDE3 I can format it and it acts just like normal. I even did a full system test with the System tool found on Western Digitals support site and it didn't find any errors. But when move it to the raid-IDE the errors return. I've get Error reading / writing to disk and when I've did a chkdsk I've got the "Coudn't use Device) so I did a scandisk and it found very very many errors so it completly ereased everything that was on it.
And when I've run Western Digitals program again i've get an error (Disk error read/writing) error code: 0113.
Can it be that the Western Disk doesn't work well with Raid? I've haven't heard anything about that, so...

I've had similar problems where my system becomes very unstable at higher bus speeds. Installing Windows XP simply didn't work very good. However, I have ordered a new PSU today as a solution to this problem. Basically, CPUs and video cards are much more demanding and the more devices you have in your computer the more power you're going to need. I recommend purchasing the Enermax EG465P-VE (FCA) 450W ATX PS. It has a higher amperage rating and will most likely solve your problem.
Check your PSU and your bus speed settings...

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU Mem timing problems?

As experienced by myself as well as Maximum PC Magazine during testing. Using high quality memory such as Samsung PC2700 DDR on the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU, if you set the cas latency timings to the most agressive settings, next time you try to boot into Windows, your OS crashes and the registry gets corrupted. Also the board actually interprets CAS 2.5 memory as CAS 2. I am sure a BIOS update will fix this problem, however who else has had this problems?

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU error

Hi everyone, my motherbord is giving me the 8 or 9 beep code
(8 = Display memory Read/Write test failure, 9 = ROM BIOS checksum failure) guess I need a new motherbord?
    I have a MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU and it has Promise 20276 (raid 0 and 1)
The beeping started after I did a clean install of winxp then a blue screen of death pop-up, when it boot up there was a blank screen then starts to beep
I Strip the system down to RAM, processor and video card only and even change the agp video card to a pci
and clear the bios by change the jumper and taking out the battery
any idea what it could be?

Neither processor or memory is supported. The processor is 166x2 (333) MHz. http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=11&kind=1

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU Startup Trouble

I am running an MSI KT3 Ultra ARU Mainboard with an amd athlon xp 1500+ processor, a GeForce4 Ti4200 made by Gainward (64mb), two AOC 120MM case fans, one 80mm case fan, a thermaltake volcano 7 speed variable Heatsink, two crucial 512MB pc2100 DDR Ram Chips a sony 16x12x40x cdrw and an LG 16x dvd rom, as well as a 20gig tape drive by HP and floppy drive.  The hard drive is a maxtor diamondmax 60GB.  all this powerd by an Antec 350W PSU.
Specs over with, heres the problem
I can only boot from floppy disk.  Booting from the hard disk gives me an "Error Loading Operating System" error, I have tried two other drives and both of these drives have OS's on them, winnt4 and winxp respectively.  The Maxtor drive is clean but not new, I am formatting it as we speak to see if that works.  I have tried to boot from a bootable win2k cd on two different CDRW drives as well as an old CD Rom drive, and a DVD rom drive.  I always get this error "Searching for Boot Record from CD.....None Found" proceeded by the "Error Loading Operating System" error.  I am running everything off the three IDE plugs, with round IDE cable(I have tried flat ones, no luck with those either)  I am not attempting to run this in a RAID array at all.
Anyone got any ideas as to why this problem would be occuring????

    hi nailz,
Hope this may solve your problem. In the BIOS, Advanced BIOS Features, set "Boot Sequency" 1st, 2nd, 3rd boot devices to the SAME one, ie Floppy for all, or 1st Master HDD for all. Then reboot. Disable "Try boot device' first. Repeat this until you get the board to boot the device.
    If can't,
    Clear the CMOS and retry.
    If can't,
(In the BIOS) select all IDE devices and set to NONE. Set "Clear NVRAM" in PCI Configuration. Save and exit the BIOS, then re-entering BIOS in the next boot, enable all IDE devices. Save and exit, re-enter BIOS once more, check the "Boot Sequence".
Yup... try changing around with IDE settings in the BIOS. Good luck.

  • 845 Ultra ARU CPU FSB Ratios?

The bios provides DRAM Frequencies of 200, 266 and Auto.  Given a FSB of 100, that means the ratio of CPU:FSB is 1:1 and 3:4.  (What is 'Auto')
If I run the FSB at 133, are these ratios preserved, or does some other ratio come into effect.  If I choose FSB of 133 and DRAM Frequency of 266, will I be running at 354 DDR?  If so, do you think a stick of Corsair PC2700 (333 DDR) will O/C to that level?

    Quote

The lack of memory ratios on this particular board is what really hurts it.  I've got my 1.8A P4 overclocked to 2.52 GHz on a 140 MHz fsb.  However, the CPU is being choked to death by a memory bandwidth of only 2.0 GB/s.  If there were more memory ratios than the one 1:1 ratio that MSI gives us, I'm sure I could improve my system's performance quite a bit.  The other problem with the MSI board, that affects me at least, is that the temperature sensor seems to be out of whack.  PC Alert III and MBM5 say that my CPU is at 67-68 degrees Celsius under a full load.  With the case open and my hand right on the heatsink during that full load, I can tell you that the reported temperature is at least ten degrees off.  If it were really 68C, I would not be able to keep my hand on it without it feeling really warm.
So those are the only two things about the 845 Ultra-ARU that make me really wish I had gotten a different motherboard.   :(
    Hi jdurg.
I just found a post on Usenet that was very interesting.  The poster has an 845 Ultra ARU.  Here's the quote:
    All this time I used fuzzylogic 4 to overclock my 1.6a to 2.1 @ 133. now I
actually went into BIOS and adjusted my memory settings. This is what I did:
    Changed....
DDR Frequency:    from 266 to AUTO
Configure DRAM Timing by:    from MANUAL to SPD
What I noticed was the CAS# LATENCY changed from 2.5 to 2 (I didn't adjust)
Now I use a program called CPU-Z to get information on the CPU, MB, and MEM.
speeds. Before the changes on the motherboard/CPU speed was normal like:
    Before: (with out bios changes)
    CPU Frequency: 2119.1 MHz
    Clock Multiplier: x 16.0
    FSB Frequency: 132.4 MHz
    MEM Frequency: 351.4 MHz
before I had problems of computer freezing after a few hours.
    Now: (after bios changes)
    CPU Frequency: 2119.1 MHz
    Clock Multiplier: x 16.0
    FSB Frequency: 132.4 MHz
    MEM Frequency: 264.9 MHz
    also CAS# L: 2clocks, RAS# to CAS# Delay: 2clocks, RAS# Precharge: 2clocks
    and Cycle time: 5clocks.
now my main question is how come the MEM Freq. has changed/decreased?
and my system is very stable now (no crashes). is this normal? I have a
no-name, cheap(only paid $60 can.) is this normal for this mem chips?
There was no reply to the message, but it looks like he was getting a 3:4 memory speed ratio with the FSB at 133.  This is good!  He had DRAM Frequency set to 266 and memory timings set to Manual.  Using AUTO and SPD brought his memory back to a 1:1 ratio.  My board won't be in until the end of the week... is there anyway you could verify this on your board?

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU video lock-ups

    Hello,
I have a 3 month old MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU.  I am running Windows XP Professional and I am having a periodic lock-up where the screen will show blinking colored blocks and the system will freeze.  Sometimes just hitting reset will cure the problem.  Other times, hitting reset will create two vertical stripes of colored blocks scrolling down the screen.  I have used the board on two entirely separate systems (One with AMD Athlon 2000+, Gainward GeForce 4200, 512 MB Samsung 2700 DDR, Western Digital Expert HD (tried both IDE #1 and RAID controller) (Other System, Athlon 1800+, a different Gainward Geforce 4200, 256 Crucial 2700 DDR, an older Maxtor hard drive).  In either system, every once in a while, the system will freeze as described above (it has happened in Netscape 7.0, Microsoft Word 2000, America's Army game).
I have played around with the bios settings, reformatted hard drives, tried various revisions of the nvidia display drivers, swapped out video cards, etc.  Any ideas?  Do I have a bad board?  Do I need to flash the BIOS?  If the board is bad, what do I need to do to return it?
    Thanks,
    Matt Gumaer

The second system has a 330 watt enermax power supply.  With the new system I put together, I put virtually the same board (MSI KT3 Ultra 2 with bluetooth and RAID), everything is the same as my first system (except the KT3 Ultra-ARU) and the stability is fine.  So, I'm reasonably confident its not the power supply.
