    Here's a little byte . . .
And even with its memory divider idiosyncrasies, it's currently the best out there. Regardless, it's becoming crazy-making to re-set the BIOS by literally having to "pull the plug", remove affected (or infected) memory, and re-set the BIOS by replacing newer DDR with older DDR memory (I've been using a 256MB stick of OCZ GolD3700, I'll explain why this works). It's been quite a long time since I recall being so frustrated with PC-hardware. This article details the anomalies I've experienced among three motherboards, and several of the latest memory's designed for the Canterwood/Springdale chipsets . . .

  • 865-PE Neo2 P -- BIOS 48 LBA mode

Hi, I am having some problems with a Maxtor ata-160G drive, with the MSI 865-PE Neo2 P board. I read the maxtor lists, and based on their recommendations used the maxblast3 software to create 3 partitions.. however when I load Windows XP Pro, it doesn't recognize the partitions. Worse, even after loading XP SP1 and running the maxtor big_drive_enabler.exe, Windows thinks it's a 148G drive rather than the 160 G it is. I was told that the BIOS might need tweaking if it doesn't properly support 48-bit LBA mode .. question is, does anyone know whether the bios shipped w/ this board supports it, and how do I go about enabling it?
    Thanks.

if that bit was not working it would see it as sub 137 gb
    thats about right any way
as drive makers use a metric gb
    not a proper on
and you loose by the format as well

  • MSI 865 Neo2 taken back? True or False?

Well frds, I've just got a news that MSI has stop their distributors to sell any MSI 865 Neo 2 mobos for a period due to some problems that cause conflicts for the mobo... May I know if this is true as I will be getting one soon... The features is so cool and advanced!
Please let me know of any outcome... Thanx   !!!

Sorry for that... I didn't see FIS2R... as I'm reading too briskly... My mistake, sorry again...
By the way, I would like to buy I865 FIS2R, but I think that this board will not be out in Singapore yet as they are pushing the I875 FIS2R currently, and these board are not cheap here... around $450 Singapore dollars or more... whereas I've got me NEO2 I865PE non-FIS2R for only $260 Sin dollars... Big difference...
Thanks to all again for a million times for your helping hands...

The 15" Retina's will have better performance than any 13" Retina. Not only do the 15" machines have dedicated GPU's, but they also have quad-core processors, whereas the 13" Retina's only have dual-core processors.

  • IS THERE ANY SIMPLE WAY TO RETURN SPEED PERFORMANCE TO FACTORY SPEED AFTER ABOUT 3 YEARS OF RELATIVELY STANDARD USE?

Everyone is often so quick to bash all these 'cleaning' utilities but rarely give any solutions.
There's a lot of critiques and endless lists of what NOT to do to avoid performance problems.
My Powerbook is 3 years old. It runs like molasses... SLOW.
I'm not a computer geek, but I'm smart and understand quite a bit more than a newbie.
Do I need a degree in computer engineering to fix/speed up my mac?
Yes, I know, the cleaning utilities suck. But is it really true of all of them?
I'm not totally convinced because there seems to be such a huge market for them.
Sure, there's a huge market for bottled water too, so maybe they are just useless/marketing crap, but I really want to return to my original speed performance quickly and can't seem to find out if it's possible with a utility.
I'm not willing to sit down for 3 hours and study line by line b.s. about how to fix it.
I have no problem if it's not fixable. I've always assumed operating systems outgrow their hardware's capacity to keep up, and sell my old one for a new one, no prob.
I don't care, really, but again, I'm curious if there is any quick, easy, user-friendly utility or method that I can use to return the speed performance I had as recently as a year ago? (I'd be satisfied with that).
Anyone willing to bite on that? Anyone willing to not critique, complain, tell me what NOT to do and actually know a solution?
IS THERE ANY SIMPLE WAY TO RETURN SPEED PERFORMANCE BACK TO (OR CLOSE TO) ORIGINAL FACTORY SPEED AFTER ABOUT 3 YEARS OF RELATIVELY STANDARD USE?
The only thing I may have done outside of the norm was some video editing, but very little.

  • CS6 - Will I notice a difference in speed/performance with only 512MB video RAM?

With regard to PS CS6: I'm specifically interested in CS6's ability to utilize video memory to make PS faster, more powerful; but will I notice a difference in speed/performance with only 512MB video RAM?
Currently running PS CS5 on an iMac (Duo-Core, 8GB RAM, 512MB Video RAM).
Was hoping Apple was going to release new Mac Pro (been saving dough for a few years now). Since that didn't happen, sticking with current Mac setup for at least another year, and this includes a video card that only has 512MB memory.
Is it worth it for me to upgrade to CS6 with regard to speed/performace?
    Any input would be appreciated.

You need at least 1Gb video memory to make use of the new GPU accelerated features in CS6

  • MSI 865 PE neo 2 S compatibilty

    Dear Guys,
Please kindly help me to solve my problem with my old system.
I have an old system that I want to use as HTPC. The specs are:
     -MSI 865 PE NEO 2 S
     -1 Gb of RAM
-P4 2,66 Ghz Northwood with Hyper threading function enable.
     -320 GB of HDD.
     -HD 3650 AGP
     -FSP Bluestorm II 500 watt
     -Main board Bios v 2.5
The problem is, when I want to change the processor with P4 3,2 Ghz SL6WG (Northwood) 512kb /  FSB 800. My system wont boot at all.
    Based from:
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=543
The P4 3,2 Ghz Northwood CPU listed as a compatible CPU for my mainboard.
I have tried clear the CMOS by shorting the 2 pins, remove the CMOS battery in the mainboard and still no results so far.
When I see the LED bracket it show 4 red light.
I have tested my system with P4 3.0 E Ghz (Prescott) SL7E4 and show no problems. My system run fine.
Am I got a bad CPU (bad P4 3,2 Ghz Northwood) or maybe this CPU not compatible with my mainboard?
Thanks a lot for the response.

You mean when you press the power button, lights come on and fans start spinning, but there are no beeps and there is no display?
The CPU is compatible with that board, so if your system doesn't start with it in, then it must be a bad CPU.
Its definitely a SL6WG? (as shown on the CPU surface)
Yes the processor definitely SL6WG, I saw the code myself in the surface of the processor.
When I start my system with SL6WG installed, there are no beeps sound at all. However all the fan and my pc peripherals starting. My monitor only show the blank screen. with the led bracket in the back show 4 red light.
When I change back my processor to 2,66 Ghz Northwood or 3.0 E prescott my systems runs fine.
    thx

  • MSI Says all Neo2's have DOT,Look...

On this site in reference to Bios Settings they state the following:
"4. Captain: 3rd level of overclocking, also the default value of "Load High Performance Defaults"."
This means that all Neo2 boards have at least two DOT setting's being on/off right?
I suspect all Neo2 are made on the same assy line and DOT parameters can be enabled somehow either by software or an iron should fix this. Even my LS board made in June 2003.
Such an agressive feature in my mind would require the FISR to have a different Bios Flash... altough I am far from an expert at this and have no problem admitting this!
So c'mon MSI your Busted. Cough up the Mod.... we know its there. If your FISR had a SCSI chip instead of a Promise one it would have got my business at whatever cost.
    In Humour
    Patt P
    Vancouver, B.C.
P.S. I don't think I would even use this feature if made available, its nice to know what your board is capable of though

MSI will soon enable DOT on the 875 with future BIOS rev. They are not trying to pull anything over on anyone, They said in their news post :At a future date we will implement DOT into other products.)

  • MSI GT680 Power Supply Issue = Performance drop

    Hello,
    I have a MSI GT680.
Recently my computer has developed fps issues with games like minecraft, LoL, dota2, etc. Which were previously very easy to run without any problems.
I believe it is something to do with the power supply, When I hover over the battery icon in the bottom right it says (plugged in, not charging)
and the computer performs the same plugged in as it does unplugged.
Ive tried to fix the (plugged in, not charging) issue but nothing has worked so far.
I just need to know if I have to buy a new charger/battery or if its just a software issue
    Thanks for your time

Check which power scheme is selected. Power scheme "balanced" will do nicely in most situations and for testing.
Check if the graphics speed (GPU/graphics memory speed) is the same in the plugged and unplugged state when running the game.
You can do this by running MSI's Afterburner software.

  • MSI R5570. Good Value Performing Card

Just tested this new R5570 video card from MSI. This VC sits between the entry-level 5450 and the mid-entry level 5670. So I guess it’s a value card with performance.  The good thing about this card is, it is specially designed for HTPC types of PC and the rear ports consists of D-SUB, HDMI and DVI. Also this is a low profile card and the active cooling is enough for long period of use. Load temp usually goes up as 55 to 58c only.
    Specs of the Card:
    Core: 650mhz
    Memory: 1GB DDR3 1600mhz Memory
    Video Output:  D-Sub / HDMI / DVI
    GPU Size: 40nm

Thanks for your thoughts.  The 5570 has a small fan.  Is she quiet?  Not quiet compared to the Intel cooler (which isn't very) but quiet to use in a low noise system...
I opted for the MSI 5750 (which is dual slot) and its larger fan is reasonably quiet.  Performance is way more than I need since I don't really game.  Gaming days are long gone for me.
