MSI 865PE-NEO2-FIS2R AGP Speed & fast writes

Does anyone know how to enable either or both of these items I have just purchased an ATI 9800 Radeon and my AGP speed is only 4X and fast writes are not enabled ?

First let me say thanks for your input.
From within my driver tab SMARTGART I have 2X, 4X, 8X it is set at 4X if I slide the slider to 8X it makes me reboot and it's still at 4X.
I Have a P4c 2.40 @ 3.0 Ghz
Thermalright SLK-947-U with a 92mm fan
Hercules All In Wonder 9800 SE softmodded drivers turning it into a 9800 Pro
OCZ PC4000 Dual Channel 4 x 256 MB CL3 DDR EL Memory @ 500Mhz
4x Maxtor 80GB Hard Drives
If I put the same card into my other computer with an AMD XP3200 on an Asus A7N8X it boots into windows by default at AGP 8X
Any ideas ? I know some motherboards I have had have this option in the bios.

  • SSD on MSI 865PE NEO2 FIS2R

    Hello Technical Experts,
I have a long standing motherboard which has been ultra reliable (see subject line for model) and still fit for my use.
Most recently, I was intriqued by improvements people were claiming using SSD - silence, power and speed, so I purchased a Sandisk Extreme 120GB. This is where the fun starts, when booting up, the system it recognises the SSD and reports it as 120GB, yet each time I try to reinstall Windows XP, it reports the disk as 8GB!
The Motherboard has the latest BIOS installed, various settings of which have been tried and both primary SATA and secondary SATA interfaces tried. Having exhausted other avenues, I am turning to this community for some insight. Any assistance will be most appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Jo
PS, I appreciate that the speed increase will be marginal on this MB, but other benefits welcome :-)

SSD's used in windows xp need to have there partition striped diffrently then default settings when formatted (SSD's are optimized for vista and above, xp formats them wrong as they use a different partition stripe)!
typically the manufacturer of the ssd will have the setting on there website for correctly formatting and setting up the file system for use with windows xp (usually the info comes in the instilation booklet supplied with the ssd when it was purchesed with the formatting and byte allocation structure needed to opperate correctly, unless its an OEM system builder part then you need to get the info off SanDisk themself of how to format the drive for XP)!
from the sound of whats happening is xp is messing up the formating process by using a wrong file allocation striping of its ntfs file structure as your letting it format on defaults (manually enter the values from the insilation manual and it should get it working correctly) <---- in otherworrds start over with a fresh format and install of windows xp with manual settings for formatting your new ssd!

  • 865PE NEO2 FIS2R memory problem

    I have this 865PE NEO2 FIS2R with a 3ghz northwood (512K cache, 800 fsb).
initially I bought a 1GB Geil PC3500 DDR dual channel kit. installed those into slot 1 and 3, installed windows...during install I would get blue screens. recently I bought a new PC-3700 DDR dual channel kit (industry standard generic stuff). I bought those cause the place I got it from claimed it works on the i875 NEO FIS2R. I figured if it works on the 875P, it should work on the 865PE. with the new memory I get blue screens a tad more often.
I tried both geil sticks again this time as single channel in slots 1 and 2 (Ch. A). I still got blue screens. I did the same with the new PC-3700 RAM, blue screens with that too.
I took those sticks out, and tried 1 Geil PC-3500 stick in slot 1, no blue screens.
Whats the deal here? shouldn't dual channel memory work as dual channel in a dual channel board? WHy can't I use 2 sticks of the same RAM in this board!
is it just incompatiable with geil dual channel? If so what about the PC-3700 RAM I tried as dual. I am thinking about trying a set of OCZ dual channel RAM, but I feel I already got $400 worth of RAM I can't use, I don't really want to waste another $200 if this is just a crappy board.
I'm thinking of just getting the new Asus with the SiS 655TX chipset, supposed to be faster anyway. 2 sticks of RAM would most likely work in that board.
I really don't want to spend anymore money on this though...I spent enough.
    the specs:
    P4 3ghz northwood
    865PE NEO2 FIS2R (with updated 2.3 bios)
    Chieftech 650 watt Power supply 36A, 36A, & 32A
BFG geforce FX 5900 Ultra 256MB (also tried an old geforce 2 mx 32MB)
memory tried: 1GB geil PC-3500 dual channel kit & 1GB generic dual channel kit
    3com Network interface card
    WD 120GB SE hard drive
    Plextor 8X DVD-RW drive
    Lite on 16X DVDROM drive

This problem is not yet solved....
I tried increasing the ram voltage to 2.8v, it ran fine for about 3 days...then boom..restart
I am seeing other people are having the same problem with these 865/875 boards.
after raising the ram voltage didn't work I tried unplugging all of my extra hard drives 1 by 1 with the memory set to 2.7v.
I am at the point where I have only my boot drive connected with the two DVD drives.
But I am still thinking its my power supply...that power supply caculator page says I need a 519 watt PS?? I have a true550 which is only 530 watt max.
If I do need to add 20% to the power calculated, I would need a 622 watt PS???
I am running speedfan now....how low is the voltages ok to drop to?
the +12 dropped to 11.19, max is 11.80
the rest of the voltages are staying more or less constant .
Oh yea, on occasion the nb fan stops, I get a warning in corecenter saying 0 RPMs.
Also I can't set the fans to high speed, 6000RPM for the nb, and 5000RPM for the CPU.
If I set corecenter to user, and move the slide up to 8, the max is only 3375RPM for the CPU and 3750RPM for the NB fan.
Also every once in awhile the power LED on my case will go out while the system is running.
But thats been doing that for awhile now!
I'm thinking I will connect up my other hard drives again and run this speed fan program again.
    update:
I reconnected my drives, ran speed fan, noticed it stops responding after 10 min...I get an error saying smbus cannot be scanned...or something like that.
Also I've got errors when downloading saying I have no ports available. it sounds like the bus is shutting down??
This is not the only MSI 865PE NEO2 FIS2R I have ran into problems with
it looks like I will be getting a new board next week....either an Asus or Abit.

  • 865PE Neo2 FIS2R

Hello all. I've searched the forums and read alot of posts about my problem, but seem to be missing the information I am looking for. Let me tell you what is going on. I have the MSI 865PE Neo2 FIS2R mobo ver 1, P4 3.0 800FSB, 1 gig corsair twinx XMS 3200 CL2. My problem is when I try to use this RAM my system will not start. No Post, nothing and the D-bracket shows me memory error code. If I use a strip of crucial from my other PC everything works fine (the crucial is 333mhz at 512mb, cl3). I checked out the RAM compatability report on the MSI site and it was pretty confusing to me. I guess my question is, is my RAM compatible or is there a work around to using the XMS modules?
    Other components are as follows:
    ATI Radeon 9800XT (256)
    48xCD-RW
    80gig WD drive (PATA)
    431w Enermax PSU
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Dink,
great to see someone who has the same config as I have.
    My System:
    865PE NEO2 FIS2R (Bios 1.8)
    CORSAIR TWINX1024-3200C2PRO
    ATI Radeon 9800XT
My system is running very stable with Ram-Settings at 2-3-3-6-8 in Turbo/Sergeant. Pls set your timings to these values. This should work.
Now a question to you. I have problems with the ATI 9800XT cards.
    1) Do you also see stuttering or lags when running 3DMark2001SE? With ATI 9800XT Reference Cards I experience these lags also in the overlay mode and in Games when turning very fast (egoshooters). You can see what I mean when you install this little tool which changes the background of your WinXP desktop to a psychedelic wormhole: http://www.geisswerks.com/drempels/index.html
After you start this funny tool. Watch out for your desktop. If it isn't runnin 100% smooth you have the same problems as I have. The only 9800XT card which isn't causing this stuttering is the ASUS 9800XT. Could you pls. tell me if you also see these lags? You can increase the stuttering by copying some files from Dir1 to Dir2.
These lags have no impact of benchmark results!
    2) Pls could you tell me what's the IRQ of your card? 16? Is it shared with the USB Controller?
    3) Who is the manufacturer of your card? Ati itself or Hercules, HIS or Saphire??
If you cannot see this stuttering I would bet you have a ASUS.

  • 865PE Neo2-FIS2R and Geil memory problem

With 512MB (2x256) of Corsair XMS 3700, the system is perfectly stable (runs 24/7 crunching for UD, also have done Prime95 torture test).
With 1-GB (2x512) of Geil PC4000 Ultra Platinum, the system is very unstable.  It usually won't even boot fully into Windows without a BSOD (which vary) or if it does get into Windows it crashed soon thereafter.
If I put the Corsair memory back in (like I have them right now, to be able to use the system to post this message), the system is back to 100% stable, so it seems to be entirely a memory-related problem.
    MSI 865PE Neo2-FIS2R (MS-6728)
    Intel P4 2.4C 800FSB (HT enabled) @ 3.19-GHz

    CPU Bus 266
    DDR Clock 354
    AGP/PCI 67/34
    CPU vCore 1.6000
    DDR volts 2.70
    AGP volts 1.50
    SPD Disabled
    3-4-4-8, 4 burst
Have run MemTest standard test on the Geil modules individually and as a pair, and have tried different slots.  Testing thus far shows no errors when each module is installed separately, but when used in a pair there are sometimes errors shown.
Have tried the modules in slots 1,3 and slots 2,4 with no difference.
Have tried setting DDR voltage from 2.70 up to 2.85v for the Geil (approved up to 2.9v) with no apparent change in stability.
Have tried changing Spread Spectrum setting between enabled and disabled.  Disabled seems to be better, but problem remains.
Have tried using SPD disabled with settings listed above, and SPD enabled (which sets timings at 2.5-4-4-8,8).
Edit: I'd asked for advice, but then realized that the very limited timeframe in which I could return the Geil would expire if I waited beyond business hours today.  So I've RMA'd the Geil and have ordered a 1-GB Corsair TwinX XMS 3700 pack instead.

I've had similar problems to you but with Corsair TwinX LL's and if you read back a month in this forum you will see others have also with various memories on the 865 FISR.
The fix I found was Kingston memory but others have had problems with Kingston.    There was a thread running a week or two ago attempting to document successful memory mobo combinations.
Bottom line, stick with what works on your mobo until MSI fix the incompatability/instability issues.

  • 865PE Neo2 -FIS2R Problems

    I purchased a brand new MSI 865PE Neo2-FISR along with a P4 2.4C(OEM), a Thermaltake Spark 5c cooler and a Corsair XMS Twinpack(TWINX512-3200C2PT) of DDR400 memory.
The install went fine, the system booted and ran very well right out of the box.  I installed the Live Update program from MSI and it updated itself.  I then used that utility to generate a BIOS flash/recovery disk to update the bios from 1.10 to 1.30.  The update worked fine and I rebooted the machine into Windows XP with no problems.
I then decided to do some tweaking in the new 1.3 BIOS.  After several unsuccessful memory/Dynamic Overclocking settings the system refused to boot.  I tried the Clear CMOS jumper to reset the defaults but it still would not boot.  I checked the D-Bracket, 3 red 1 green(lower right) which indicates that the video card is not initializing.  I attempted reseating the video card (a PNY Geforce4 TI4200) with no luck, I then replaced that card with a GeForce4 MX440 SE with no luck.  I tried four other video cards, 2 AGP and 2 PCI, with no success.
At this point I pulled the board out of the system and let it sit with the battery out of the board hoping that the BIOS would reset to default values.  I reinstalled the board with all the hardware and again the same D-Bracket error with no video generated.  I tried different arrangements of memory using the new Corsairs and various other DDR333 & DDR266 again no luck.
What is going on with this thing?  How could an errant timing change completely lock out the VGA card?  And why can I not clear the settings to allow the card to initialize?
This thing is getting RMA'd soon if I can't find an answer.
Anyone have any ideas or similiar troubles? X(

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] Question-boot from Promise IDE on 865PE Neo2 FIS2R

I bought my first MSI board a couple of years ago, an 865PE Neo2-LS. When I retired that, I went for an Abit 875P IC7-G. I just hated the Abit board, used it 3 months and replaced it with a new MSI 865PE Ne02 FIS2R.
I didn't reinstall WIndows XP Pro with the new motherboard. Everything seemed to be OK until I could get around to a clean install of XP. One reason I wanted the FIS2R model was that I wanted to use the faster Promise IDE connection for my boot drive. I had a heck of a time getting the drive to boot, but it finally worked. I was having a few problems that I thought a repair reinstall of XP might solve. So, I tried that yesterday.
Now I cannot get the same drive to boot from the Promise IDE controller. I saw that setting were changed in the BIOS and I can't figure out how to set them so I can boot from the C: drive on the Promise. It will boot fine from the regular primary IDE controller, but I want to use that for two other hard drives I use for storage. The secondary IDE connection is for a CDRW and DVDRW drives.
I've looked at the FAQs and read the manuals. How do I just use the IDE on the Promise? What should my BIOS settings look like? The Promise drivers are installed on the boot drive, the system will post and I'll see a flash of the Windows XP intro screen, then a flash of a blue screen and it kicks it back to booting again. I've never been able to see what that blue screen is telling me. THe drives I want to put on the Promise controller are PATA drives, I don't want SATA or RAID, just using the Promise as a third connection for IDE drives.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer. I have tried every imaginable way of setting the BIOS, but can't seem to hit the right combination. That's what I did on my first try when I got it working, hit a lucky combination and it worked.

Thank you. I had already tried the settings in the post you linked to. I had no luck there. I've reinstalled the Promise drivers, but the boot drive refuses to go past the Windows flash screen before resetting. I think it's quite simple what I'm trying to do. I have six drives. On IDE 1 I want to two storage drives to be connected. On IDE 2 I'm putting the Cd and DVD optical drives. On IDE 3 (Promise) I would like to have my boot (master) drive and a slave drive. Rearranging cables I can get the drive to boot from IDE 1, but no luck with IDE 3. I think it's the Promise drivers, they appear to be installed, but I don't think they are working. I'm going to copy the Promise drivers to a floppy and reinstall XP with the boot drive on IDE 3 and see if I get anywhere with that.
The link referred more to SATA and RAID setup, I just want to use the Promise IDE. I'd sure hate to have to put the awful Abit IC7-G back in my system as I can only get 5 IDE devices in that one instead of the 6 the MSI should run.

  • 865PE Neo2 -FIS2R POST problem

I'm having a problem with my newly built system and hoped that someone here might be able to help.
I am using the 865PE Neo2 -FIS2R motherboard with a 3.0Ghz P4 800Mhz FSB and a single 512MB Value Select Corsair RAM (DDR 3200, 200/400Mhz).  The installed Video Card is a Leadtek Geforce3 Ti.  There are no other expansion cards installed.  There is no HDD.
When I power on my PC, I hear 2 short beeps, a pause, and then 8 short beeps.  I'm also not getting any video.  I looked up the beep codes on the AMI Bios web page.  2 beeps for video card issues and 8 beeps for memory issues.
I think the d-bracket is a great touch, so I check out its LED indicators.  It shows the pattern denoting a memory issue.  The only other RAM module I have laying around is a single generic PC 2100 266Mhz module.  So, I pop it in.  When I power on the system I get the same beep codes and LED configuration on the d-bracket.
Are the MSI Neo2 boards extremley picky about RAM?  Should I be using two modules as per the RAM population table in the manual?  Is there a recommended brand/model of RAM?  Is there anything else I should be looking at as the cause?
I plan on picking up some different RAM modules over my lunch break today but before I did I wanted to check with those who know before I blow money on them.
    Thanks for any help/advince.

    KevinS,
Sad to say but there are some Corsair RAMs are known for instability problems with MSI mobos, especially the Low Latency RAM with the NEOs and NEO2s. That's why MSI has to test the RAMs to make sure that there is a list of confirmed and compatible RAMs for the mobo.
    Pheng,
This AVATAR is better than the last one, at least it's not the 3X rated type... but I'll put an NC-16 PG for it hehehe... . Another thing is that I did not say that I hate the previous AVATAR at all... lol... Just feel that it is unsuitable for a tech forum where people from all over the world in all age and genders will be visting and viewing the threads. I hope you understand the suitation here .

  • 865PE Neo2-FIS2R, memory question!

    Hi!
I´m thinking of buying memory for the 865PE Neo2-FIS2R mother board and have a few doubts that are on my mind.
    1. If I want to use DualMode memory, should I use 256+256 or 512+512.
Lets assume that I buy 2x 256MB and uses them as DualMode.
Can I later put another 2 x 256MB into the computer and use them all as DualMode, (256+256+256+256) or is only possible to use 2 of each size.
Maybee I should buy 1x of 512MB and use it as SingeMode and later complement with another 512 and use them as DualMode.
    hmmmmm.......any point of views?
The memory I´m talking about is:
     Corsair CMX256A-3500C2 256Mb DDR PC3500 CAS2 434MHz
     Corsair CMX512-3500C2  512Mb DDR PC3500 CAS2 434MHz
I assume that they are the same as MSI has in its
"DDR400 Memory Modules Qualified Vender List " and should work just fine with the motherboard.
    Regards
    WiGGoW

I would not go with that brand of ram. There are alot of issues being talked about involving that ram in this forum. I recommend Kingston and so does MSI. Keep in mind to obtain Ultr-Turbo in Bios you need to buy a latency of 2 or you will get an error message and your bios will reset to slow.

  • MSI 865PE NEO2-V showing wrong RAM timings

    Hi
I have a MSI 865PE NEO2-V motherboard with Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs now and try to put the timings of the RAM to 2-3-3-6 in the bios.
According to http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair...h_results.html it should work ok...but its not.
When i check the timings with CPU-Z it shows 3-4-4-8 instead.
    The SPD is 3-3-3-8.
I have checked so they are in Dual channel and i have put the RAM voltage to 2.75V after i tried with the default voltage, but to no avail.
To be extra certain i ran Everest Ultimate and it showed the exact timings.
The RAM run fine with StressPrime and Prime95 but i get bad results in SiSoft Sandras RAM benchmarks.
    What is going on????

    Hi
    Yeah, it get slow results.
    I have a Intel Prescott 3.2Ghz with FSB800.
I see now that the link uses Java script, its in Corsairs search engine on their site.
    Their recomendations for the set of RAM i have is: TWINX2048-3200C2 / DDR-400 (XMS-3200C2) / 2-3-3-6 .
I have tried to set the timings as you said but it still runs at 3-4-4-8 whatever i set it at.
I have it running at 2-3-3-6 on another motherboard so i think it must be some settings in the BIOS that i set wrong on this one, but i cant figure it out.
Could it be that somethings wrong with the Performance Mode (MAT) settings?
I tried it on and off, I have also reseted the BIOS to default and even removed the CMOS battery for a while.
I paste all the info from the Corsair site here:

  • Problem with NIC and Firewire on MSI 865PE NEO2-PFISR

Hi, I have lots of trouble getting the network adapter on the MSI 865PE NEO2-PFISR to work.
The NIC's LED indicators doesnt even light up when I plug in a network cable,
and in windows (win 2003 server) it doesnt find the adapter at all.
The NIC is displayed in the bios, and I have the option to disable it,
    but it is enabled.
I have even reinstalled windows 2003 server to try to get the NIC to work.
I have upgraded the bios to v3.8 via live update, with no problems, although the
firewire-option on the same page in the bios is still gone, it doesnt detect the
    firewire at all(!).
    I have also tried several other NIC's (a 3COM 3C905B TX and a 3C905B TX XL
PCI adapter). The 3C905B TX worked fine for a while, and then it started saying in
windows that a network cable was unplugged, and began to try 10mbit, 100mbit
lots of retries, now it doesnt work at all.
I swapped tp-cables and changed the ports on the network switch (which there is
also other computers attached to which doesnt have any problems) and that didnt
    made any difference.
It seems that the whole pci bus is long gone, and maybe the onboard NIC is
attached to this same pci bus?
Strange also about the firewire-controller which isnt detected anymore.
The USB devices work, and even a 3com usb wlan adapter works well.
I have tried to reset the bios several times without that making a difference.
Anybody have a clue to point out here?
    Cheers!

I tried most anything on flashing bios, both to a lower and a higher version.
I returned the motherboard to the reseller and got a new motherboard as a replacement. This doesnt have all the same problems. At first it didnt post at all, indicating to red lights on the diagnosis.
Then I was so pissed I hadnt touched the computer in a week, and just tried to use it a few days ago, and it seemed to work all ok. I used it for a few hours, and then it locked up.
When I powered it up again, the lights on the integrated adapter was out. At first it seemed to work to take the agp card a little out of its slot, as if it was unaligned or something. Used it for a few more hours.
Then I plugged in the sound cables (5.1 sound with 3 cables), and with the last cable, the network darkened out AGAIN!!
In the bios it still indicates that the network is enabled, firewire is enabled etc.
I twisted the network cable, and for a few microseconds I get a orange light, not the usual green light. Now this has stopped too.
I see other also have problems with these symptoms so I guess I've got another black monday card.
I will return this card too, and ask the reseller to get a card of another brand.

  • What is the max supported CPU for MSI 865PE-NEO2-LS?

Can someone please tell me what is the max supported CPU speed for the MSI 865PE-NEO2-LS?  I have a P4 2.8@800Mhz, but was told that with a BIOS upgrade this motherboard can achieve up to 3.2?  Is that right, or can it support higher speeds such as the 3.4+
    Thank you!

    Hello,
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=433&kind=1
I think A6728IMS.210 means BIOS 2.1 so it may already work with the 3.2Ghz CPU.

MSI 645 ULTRA - DOES IT SUPPORT FAST WRITE -
coz i want to enable it so i can get higher 3dmarks score.
so i'm wondering if it supported but i think it doesnt but not sure.
    k thx.

I am assuming here, that it is always on and that turning it off isnt a option via the less than robust bios' that MSI gives us.  That being said, there is a utility called NVMax that allows you to switch it on and off as well as 2x/4x agp, assuming again, that you have a NVidia graphics card.
Try that Emazy, Im curious to see if you get lockups like I do when I check it off.  For me at least, it appears to be on, but greyed out.  Sisoft says that it is capable of fastwrites but not enabled.
As I mentioned before and as Assaf confirmed, the difference is negligeable and in most cases causes to instability.
I think Fast Writes was as big a hype as MMX was. :]

  • Bios update 865PE Neo2 Fis2R

    Just setup new system
    865PE Neo2 Fis2R, 2.8 P4 retail with fan: Crucial PC3200
512: Maxtor 120 Diamond Max Plus SATA: ATI All in Wonder
    7500 64MB: Msi CR52-M
    Bios string is 1.00.1030.26
I want to go to version 4. I think this is reasonable!
First time in setup of Bios I noticed the cpu temperature
was 52 C.  What is normall range of operation??
I thought over 60 C was cause for concern and would damage the processor!!
I would like to over clock..
thanks,  so far looks like a good system. 8)

    Msipcfixer911,
Yes it is reasonable to want the latest bios for your new motherboard.
But 1.4 is not the best bios. I would advise you to do some research before upgrading.
As I see it your only choise is between 1.3 and beta 1.52 in known working bios to date.
Also your cpu temp should drop once you upgrade.
There is a lot of informative reading in this forum as any
questions you may have about you motherboard have most likly already been asked and anwsered.
