MSI 880GMA-E45 Overclocking

Hi Guys,
I'm new here.   anyway, can anybody teach me how to overclock using this motherboard? below is my current setup:
Cooler Master Elite 430 Black
HEC Cougar 700W CM 80PLUS Bronze
MSI 880GMA-E45
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8Ghz (still stock clocks, with stock heatsink fan.)
4GB (Dual) DDR3-1600 G.Skill RipJaws CL9
Sapphire HD 6850 1GB GDDR5
640GB WDC Black 64MB
Can I overclock my X6 1055T to around 3.4Ghz while using my stock HSF? I plan get a Thermaltake Frio and OC it to 4+Ghz. Are these realistic targets?

hehehheheheh you really shouldve kicked in a few more bucks and the 1090t BE x6, the 1055t with stock cooler should get 3.55ghz easily however make sure you add more voltage to the cpu, also read up on your products I know this seems like a pain in the ass but if you take the time to read about your products you can ask direct questions about over clocking...   this ---->   https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=40413.0   is a damn good place to start first.
Also I do not recommend overclocking with stock cooler. Not to say they are bad just saying that you are adding more voltage and heat to your system. Seems in my 17 years of building/playing with computers the stock heatsinks are made to fit the already set manufactures specs. i.e. if the cpu is a 3.20ghz then all they make is a heatsink to deal with those temp settings.
I have got a stable   4.04ghz   on my x6 1090t shown here alittle (all on air cooling)
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=146059.0
However I feel like every system has a "sweet spot" a zone where if tuned right you get the max performance for current build. Like mine ended up being 3.84ghz memory @ 1602mhz fsb to 240
I think 4ghz on the 1055t is very doable as long as you keep it cooled, also keep your room temps to about 68-70F as far as doing it to 3.40 on a stock cooler i wouldn't see why not?? but don't see much of a gain to increase it only few MHz??

  • MSI 880GMA-E45 FX support

    Hi,
Can you tell me this mainboard MSI 880GMA-E45 will support new FX Bulldozer processors?
In official msi global site says just 880GMA-E35 mainboard supports new FX bulldozer of all 880G mainboards but in this site http://www.techpowerup.com/143748/MSI-to-Make-AM3+-Processor-Upgrade-Painless-for-its-Users.html says 880GMA-E45 will support FX processors but with new BIOS version. Is there any confirmed information that this is true?

  • MSI 880GMA-E45 RAID Option for Recovery/Import?

    Hi All,
Does anyone know if the above motherboard - in its RAID 5 settings, does it have a "recover" or "import" settings option?
My current 880GMA is Toasted, fired  -dead. But my disks are fine. So I want to buy another 880GMA board and us it. However I need to know if its possible to continue with my existing RAID disks in the new system?
I cant create a new RAID array, because of that process initializes the disks, which will erase the data. I need to urgently know if the 880GMA has an option to scan an existing disk set for a RAID and use it - OR if you can create a RAID 5 array BUT NOT INITIALIZE IT. So It will just use it as is?
    Thanks,
    Rurapente.

That should be no problem. Hook up the drives to the same ports as before and set the SATA Controller to RAID-Mode right after system start-up.  The RAID-BIOS should then kick in and simply recognize & use your drives in the same way they were originally configured on the other mainboard.  As long as board/chipset/SATA controller are the same and as long as each drive is hooked up to the same port, there should not be any problem.

I also cannot load Windows 7.  Locks up at "Starting Windows" while installing from DVD or USB stick.
Page Fault in Nonpaged Area. STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFF88000FF8000,0x sixteen zeros, etc.)

Boots and runs off of Ultimate Boot CD & the Ubuntu live DVD, passes Memtest...
Funny thing is I was able to load Windows XP SP3 on it and it's idling with nothing installed at the moment.

I'm going get a PCI Express Video card tomorrow, install it and see what happens.
If you figure out a setting I'm missing, please let me know.  I'll check back later tonight and tomorrow at work.
    Thanks in advance, Robert

Thanks Svet for the tip.    One stick of ram booted and one did not.  I can't believe I had not tried that yet!!!  I have read that Windows 7 is picky about ram.
I had just purchased the mobo/chip combo, ram, hard drive & blu-ray/dvd from a Fry's B & M in town. It was raining here and the saved money was going to be spent! The price was right for the mobo combo.
I did not check the compatibility of the ram and the mobo which was a mistake.
After purchasing, I noticed on the ram package, that it says "for i5 & i7" and have also read about timing issues with AMD boards and some certain ram sticks.
Corsair's website has this ram listed as the value select line.  Not processor specific but lifetime warranty.  Maybe just a bum stick.
I'm bringing the ram back tonight. (Fifteen day return policy sticker on package.)  Not sure if I should swap for another package or not.  I'm checking to see what they have that could work better.
    Thanks again, Robert

  • My 880GMA-E45 won't read Windows 7 Install disc! Please help me!!!

Hello everyone!  I bought an MSI 880GMA-E45 mobo a few days ago and until now, I can't find a way to install Windows 7 Ultimate on the thing.  I tried installing Vista Starter and it worked perfectly.  I also installed Ubuntu 10.04 from a USB stick, and it also worked fine (on the 2nd attempt). But I've been trying my darndest to install Windows 7, which is going to be the system's main OS, and it seems to refuse to read the installation disc.
I installed Vista, booted up, then inserted the Win 7 disc, and it still can't be seen in My Computer!!!  Is this a common problem with this mobo or did I get a bum board?  I've tried changing DVD drives (several times) to no avail.
I've been at it for the 3rd day now, still no luck with Windows 7.  Please help. I know I'm doing the installation correctly since I got Vista installed on it 3 times already and Ubuntu twice.  I've done numerous Win 7 installations on other PCs but this is the first time that I've had problems like this.  I'm really at the end of my wits here...
BTW, the Windows 7 Installation disc works file when I tested it on another machine, so that can't be the problem.
    Here's the setup:
    MSI 880GMA-E45
    AMD Athlon II x2 245
    Gskill Ripjaws X  2x2Gb DDR3-1333
Nvidia GTX-460 1Gb Video Card (I tried it with and without this installed)
WD Caviar Green 1Tb HDD (Where Vista is right now)
Seagate 160Gb Barracuda SATA (Where Ubuntu is)
3 x 80Gb Eaglestor SATA HDDs  (to be installed as a RAID0 array and where Windows 7 will go)

    " Hello!
You most likely have a memory problem. Use as little hardware as possible when installing, and only one of everything, no extra cards or USB things. One stick of memory for example, and should the problem remain try the other. "
    Hello Fredrik!
I tried that already using 4 sticks of RAM inserted one at a time.  It didn't work either.
I already found the solution!  Here's everything I did in detail...
On another computer, I formatted a USB stick using NTFS, then made it bootable using DISKPART and BOOTSECT.  I wasn't sure if those bootable USB stick software would give the same result.  In my case, I wanted everything to be as basic and as native Windows as possible.
Then copied all the contents of the Windows 7 installer disc to the USB stick, inserted the stick to one of the the rear USB ports in my PC, then booted from there.  I didn't set the BIOS boot from the stick anymore.  I just used F11 instead.  It booted up properly, then went on to install Windows normally.  I just had to have the RAID drivers on the USB stick as well, since I knew Windows would be looking for it from all the Vista installs I made earlier...
Now, everything works as it should.
BTW, is there a problem with this mobo and IDE DVD drives?  That was one of my theories.  Since all the DVD drives I used in the failed installations of Win 7 were IDE drives except one, which was an external USB drive.  It didn't occur to me to try and use a SATA DVD drive.  Besides, I didn't have access to SATA DVD drives at the time anyway, so I had no choice.  Do you think it could have worked?
Also, I emailed MSI tech support who suggested I flash the BIOS.  It didn't work either and the mobo ended up not booting and getting stuck after POSTing at the "Checking NVRAM" message, so I reflashed it to the original BIOS version.
I hope my mis-adventures with this mobo and my solution would be of help to someone someday as I don't think this is an isolated case.  I seem to have read somewhere in a forum about a similar problem that happened several months back but the thread was closed without the solution being posted.
Thank you to everyone who gave their opinions!
PS:  I almost bought a new Gigabyte motherboard earlier today because I was already getting frustrated with this one.  Good thing I didn't....

  • Msi 880gma-e35 (fx) Core unlocking...it is that safe on 95w athlonII ?

I read about many msi 880gma-e45 fried using cpu 125 watt tpd....do you think that would be safe to unlock a fourth core on a Athlon II X3 455 (TPD 95W)?
How many phase has this board?
    Thanks

I would advise against it as the 455 is a B55 125W with a disabled core. No sense taking a chance of frying CPU VRM MOSFETS by doing the unlock. Also do not attempt to OC a 95W cpu on that MB as more than likely you would have the CPU higher than 125W and have the same fried MOSFET problem.

  • 880GMA-e45 crashes when RAID enabled

I used to have a RAID10 array on my 880GMA-e45 mobo and it was working fine for around 6 months.  Recently, one of the drives developed a SMART error, and since I was also running a bit low on HDD space, I decided to migrate the RAID10 to RAID0 and removed the failing drive.  After the migration, my PC began BSODing less than 10 minutes after booting up.
I created a new RAID0 array using the BIOS RAID utility and tried reinstalling Windows but it can't seem to find the RAID array.  I have the RAID drivers on a USB but it won't accept the drivers either.
I then installed another drive (not part of the RAID0 array) planning to install Windows on that drive first, then I was planning to install Windows on the RAID array after it booted up on the single drive, but now, it BSODs before it boots up.
I have to set the drives as IDE at the BIOS just so it wouldn't BSOD and allow me to install Windows on the single drive.  After Windows was installed on the single drive, I set the BIOS to RAID again, and created the RAID0 array.  Again, it refuses to boot, giving me a BSOD before loading Windows every time.  Even set as AHCI, it would BSOD before loading Windows.
The only way it would boot up is if the drives were set to IDE.
What could be the problem with my system?  It was working fine before until one drive started failing.  I really need the system to have a RAID10 array but whatever RAID array I create, I get a BSOD.
    Here is my system configuration:
    MSI 880GMA-e45
    AMD Athlon ii x3 450
    4GB Gskill DDR3-10666
    Nvidia GTX560 1Gb
    Antec True-Power 650 watts PSU
    3 x Seagate 80Gb SATA2 (This is the RAID0 array. It used to be 4 x 80Gb)
    1 x WD 1Tb Green Caviar SATA2
    1 x Seagate 160Gb SATA2 (The single drive where Win7 is installed)
    1 x Samsung SATA DVD-RW drive

No, I have all the drives installed.  Do I have to disconnect the other drives and leave only the RAID array connected?  I'll try that.
I hope it won't BSOD anymore...
Thanks a lot for your help!

  • MSI 785gtm-e45 gpu overclock?? could it be??

Hi guys, I'm new in the forum. Last saturday I bougth this motherboard (MSI 785GTM-E45) and I tried to overclock the ati 4200 integrated gpu but I can't. There isn't an option in the BIOS, not even with MSI Dual Core Center, or AMD Overdrive or ATI Tray tools or ATI GPU tools... so I would like to know if this new BIOS version has te option to change the MHZ in GPU. Thanks in advance!!

Yes, that may be the case.  But this is a Micro-ATX-Mainboard which simply does not have this option in BIOS.  What is the point of overclocking the low-profile onboard-video chip of a mATX-Board besides increasing the chip temperature?  Overclocking onboard video chips is not going to turn them into high-performance full-featured video cards either.

  • 880GMA-e45 Cpus

First of all, I'ld like to say i did follow the "Will this CPU work on my board?" topic and I have seen what the site says about the 880GMA-e45. It says it supports Phenom II X6 Thuban HDT90ZFBK6DGR 1090T 200 3.20 3M 6M E0 125w. • 880GMA-E45 - Need to press start several times

    Hi,
    880GMA-E45 with a Phenom II X2 555.
I've unlock the Phenom using auto features of this motherboard (4cores). I've installed Win7 x64 without any problem.
Then, I've updated the bios to the latest v17.7.
Now, when I press start, the computer shuts down within few seconds. I do that 3 to 4 times then it starts normally and works correctly. If I set only two core (I keep the unlock feature on). Same problem
If I disable the unlock feature, it starts on the first try.
Probably related to the bios update but not 100% sure (with the original bios I've not made a lot of start up ... not sure that it was starting up correctly with unlock core on)
    Any idea?
    Thanks

Quote from: Bas on 17-November-10, 17:35:09
    That is Intel memory.
3 sticks on AMD is not a good idea.
Either use 2 or 4, but not 3.
Also because it is Intel memory, it can have wrong timings for AMD.
And please stop the OC stuff until the problem is solved, as OC on top is seeking problems.
    (thanks for your response)
Already tried with two (and one) memory stick.
The Phenom is not overclocked and runs at its normal frequency. There's no OC set up in the bios (OC Genie Lite disabled, no manual settings)
To be short: since the new bios when I use the unlock feature (nothing else changed), I have to press start several times (OC Retry Count +1)
I don't think the problem is coming from a faulty core  (even if I manually enable one, two or three cores with unlock ON .. same problem)

I've come across to a site that is some sort of official announcement from MSi regarding the upgrade of 'old' motherboards to the AM3+ standards. Since I cannot post external links, I'll just post what it says:
    Supported Mainboards
    AM3+ Compatible Mainboard
    890FXA-GD70   880GMS-E35
    890FXA-GD65   870A-G54

    880GMA-E55   870A-G46
    880GMA-E35   760GM-P33
I have a 880GMA-E45 and according to these news, I'm able to download a BIOS update and make it compatible with AM3+ CPUs.
According to the old announcement you found your board were already not mentioned. As the cpu support chart leads to the same conclusion AM3+ cpus are not supported. Besides these boards would anyway just support old Bulldozer FX cpus not the newer Vishera cpus (like FX6300).
