MSI 880GMS-E41 support UEFI?

I was looking around on Newegg for a new motherboard with some type of rebate, and saw: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130652&name=AMD-Motherboards
Which looks pretty good. I happen to have a 3TB SATA drive though, and from my understanding; I can't use all 3TB of this HDD as one partition unless the partitioning scheme is GPT. And it turns out Windows will only boot from GPT drives if it was installed in UEFI mode.
So, did that motherboard happen to support UEFI? Looking around the internet didn't exactly show that it did, but I'd rather be sure.

from some searching it has a basic AMI BIOS not a UEFI! so it wont allow 3TB GPT partition boot!
if your looking to do a single large drive look for a MSI board that has 3TB+ infinity on it as they are designed for that specifically!

  • Random Shut Down on a MSI 880GM-E41

    System under discussion
AMD Athlon II x3  450 Regor  3.2 Ghz
      MSI 880GM-E41 mainboard
      Kingston DDR3 Hyperx/fb 2x2Gb
      Seagate Baracuda 160Gb IDE  HD
      Logisys 480w Power supply
      USB mouse
      corded keyboard
      using onboard video by ATI
I used the search to find random reset posts but they all seemed to be 10 years old.. and none marked solved so here is a fresh question for old timers on the MSI board.
This random shutdown (as described in those old posts) happens with no load on the system except for my always on net connection which does exchange some data.
This MSI board was a (unknown to me at the time) discontinued item from New Egg.  It works ok most of the time so I was wondering if there is some software cycle that kicks in.  I have no screen savers on or anything else I know of.  A defrag monitor is loaded and I use the Comodo firewall system.  That's it-- nothing else to tell of interest.

You already have a topic for your issue, no need for another (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=160956.msg1179710#msg1179710) . Besides this board is not ten years old. "Similar issues" that old are irrelevant.

  • Does 880GM-E41 support Wake-On-Lan?

I've been through the manual at 880GM-E41:
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/880GM-E41.html
But it makes no mention of supporting Wake-On-Lan.  It shows a BIOS picture and support for all other type of wakes, but not Wake-On-Lan.  A search of the internet gives inconclusive evidence.
    Any feedback appreciated!
    Thanks!

Modern mainboards do not have a specific 'Wake on LAN' option in the BIOS.
Most recent MSI boards, including yours, use an integrated Realtek PCI-E network controller. So in BIOS, you need to enable 'Wake on PCI-E', and then configure the driver properties for the network controller in Windows.

I need information about my mainboard i wont upgrade(bay) the procesor Phenom II X6 1055T L3 9mb 125w On msi site dont have that cpu on cpu suport so i want some information can i put that procesor.
    MSI 880GM-E41

I don't think it will support that one since it's not on the list. You can always check with MSI: >>How to contact MSI<<
You should be able to find the 95W version available to buy though, so that's the alternative.

  • MSI 880gm-e43 ddr3 1600 support

I recently purchased this motherboard (msi 880gm-e43), and Kingston HyperX 4GB KHX1600C9AD3K2/4G ram kit. However while both are supposed to support DDR3 1600MHz, I only get 1333 with the default configuration.
Do I need to change overclocking settings to get these working? If so how can I do that?
(Btw, SPD shows up to 1333 only, while MSI's control panel applications also has another entry for XMP-1600, which I do not exactly know how it differs).

I though I was able to do it. There was a simple option, which allowed 1600MHz with no issues.
But it turns out that mode comes with increasing DRAM timers. Is there a way to increase the clock speed, while keeping the timers fixed?
(I compared Windows Experience Index scores, it performs exactly the same in both those configurations).
There is this page, but it has no documentation, and I have no idea how to set it up:

  • 880GM-E41 And Amd Phenom 840

I am thinking about ordering a http://www.msi.com/product/mb/880GM-E41.html and a AMD phenom II 840(HDX840WFGMBOX) but the 880GM-E41 does not list it under supported cpus but since the 840 a propus die would it work ? will msi release a bios update for proper ID

I have the same CPU in my 890FX-GD70 board, and it works fine and is recognised correctly, despite also not being on the supported list for my board. Should also work in yours too.

  • 880GM-E41 and Server 2008 / Windows Home Server 2011

I am building a WHS 2011 machine (which is based on Server 2008) and am considering the 880GM-E41 mainboard.  However when I go to the product website:
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/880GM-E41.html
I don't see drivers listed for Server 2008.  Specifically, there are chipset, audio, raid (etc) drivers listed for Windows 7 64-bit, but nothing for Windows Server 2008.  However in the past I have experienced mainboards which 'just work' regardless of the drivers that are downloadable.  My question is... before I purchase this mainboard, does anybody know if the motherboard works on Windows Server 2008?  Or which devices/features will not work?
I actually don't require the RAID drivers to work since I won't be using hardware raid, but I will need the system, chipset, and audio drivers working (whether they get pulled from Windows Update or downloaded from MSI).
    Thanks!

WHS 2011 is built on the Windows Server 2008 R2 code base, which is built on Windows NT 6.1, the same core operating system used with the end-user oriented Windows 7.  So basically, you need to use Windows 7 64bit drivers and everything will be fine.

  • MSI GTX660 TI and UEFI

    Hello,
I built my computer a couple months ago and installed Windows 7 x64 in Legacy. Everything ran smooth.  Then I ended up getting Windows 8 x64 and installed in Legacy mode and everything was fine.  Now fast forward to today.  I decided to re-install Windows 8 in UEFI to get some fast boot times and running into a problem that seems to be caused by my MSI Video Card.
I think I have the latest firmware for my card and I thought the 660 is supposed to support UEFI, right?  I have the Monitor 1 plugged into 1st DVI of the GTX660.  I have 2nd monitor plugged into 2nd DVI of GTX660.  I then ended up having to plug in 1st monitor also to the HDMI of the MB (IGP) to be able to see loading screen up until i hit the log on screen.  Then i have to switch inputs on my first monitor to DVI to log in and get see windows.
I am also getting a weird error when I start up.  Between the intel logo splash screen and logging in.  The error is: "Video OptionRom Authenticate Failed". Not using secure boot either. It is really really annoying having to switch inputs everytime.  And I'm not even sure once I start installing stuff and running my programs, if its the HD4000 IGP or the GTX660 GPU that will be used. I had to turn my IGP on in bios for my computer to boot up otherwise it wont because the GPU doesnt seem to be recognized off the bat.
Basically just asking if there is a firmware update i need to do to my MSI GTX660 TI card to be able to run UEFI smoothly.  If the error is being caused by the video card and how to fix it if it is.
    Thanks in advance!
    My computer Configuration

    here it is
You are a God among men Svet, don't let anyone ever tell you differently!
I was able to update the BIOS on my MSI GTX660 TI and computer booted perfectly without that error.  I can now also just use both DVI outputs for both my monitors and see the MB post flash logo thing on my main monitor using DVI.  No more having to use my IGP and HDMI.
Thanks again for your quick and working solution reply!

  • Does my laptop support UEFI

Hi, i have a dv6-6170us laptop. I want to know if its support UEFI.
I have the latest bios update, the F 1b.

I can finally see the images. Did you enter the BIOS and click on the Security options if they exist?
Your images do not show that. InSyde BIOSes normally have sections for Configuration,Security and Boot Options.
Power button , immediately tap the Esc key  a few times to invoke the startup menu and then select F10 for the BIOS. F9 is for the Boot options. There is also a Boot options screen in the BIOS.

I have an idle CPU  intel core2 duo T7600,so I am considering  buying  an AXIS 945GM to let it work.
I have a question ,does MSI Axis  945G support intel core2 duo T7600?
I checked the CPU suppot list on MSI website,I just found it suppots upto T7400.
Can I flash the new BIOS v1.23  to support T7600?

According to the CPU Support List, this won't help.  The best thing to do would be to contact MSI Technical Support.  Maybe they can give you a more definate answer:

  • MSI Prescott CPU Support List (FSB800, 1M L2)

    finally...

    and
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=proscott

At last, a clear answer from MSI, after 6 months of waiting
MSI Prescott CPU Support List (FSB800, 1M L2)
    Chipset_Model Board_Name  BIOS_Version  Prescott_Support
    Intel® 875P 875P Neo-LSR/-FIS2R AMI 1.8 YES
    Intel® 865PE 865PE Neo2-PS/-PLS/-PFISR AMI 3.2 YES

    Intel® 865PE 865PE Neo2-S/-LS/-FIS2R AMI 1.9  YES
I guess Intel has the final samples with the manufacturers ...
Now to save up for the CPU upgrade, the probable PSU upgrade, probably a better HSF or CPU cooling system, memory, etc...
But how can I test my system upgrade readiness before the 1 yr warranty expires?

Put nvflash and the vbios file on it and boot from the stick. Then type nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom (if renamed vbios that way) and hit enter. Confirm the questions and let the tool flash
