MSI 890 GXM-G65 LAN Controller Issue

Hello, Forum!
I have had this motherboard for the past few years, loved it, and then the LAN controller suddenly decided to "stop working."  What I mean by that is that when I boot up, Windows loads, and then I have no network connection.  I have updated the Realtek drivers, flashed the latest BIOS, disabled/reenabled drivers, renewed IP address, statically assigned an IP address, flushed DNS, installed BC Edit.  The *one* thing that "solves" the problem is hitting F8 upon bootup and selecting "Disable Microsoft Driver Signature  Enforcement."  I'll have network connection again after that, but then it goes away upon the next boot up, so I have to do this *every* time I want to use the computer.  This gets kinda annoying, especially when I do leave it on during a download from Steam or something overnight, it needs to reboot for updates or part of the install process, then it boots back up and connection is lost, so download doesn't complete until the next day when I reboot it *again* and do the F8 routine.  Because I have a beast-sized graphics card and an audio card, I have no room for a separate NIC card.
Computer specs:
The aforementioned mobo in the subject line
AMD Phenom II x6 1055T
12GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA 550Ti 1GB
ASUS Xonar DG sound
Antec 450w Earthwatts power supply
I have been trying to Google the problem and ask people who were formerly Microsoft tech support, but this has not help.  Can anyone help?

I run Windows 7 x64.  I have a desktop and a laptop, both of which have had reinstalls done on them in the past (long before the LAN issue on the desktop happened), both had problems with reinstalling because it wouldn't let me re-use my product key. I then had to buy all new copies of Windows (I *really* try to stay away from torrenting).  This is not a hassle or expense that I wish to go through again unless I *know* it will fix the problem.
Three things that I neglected to mention that I've tried are:
 - System Restore
 - Set to Last Known Good Configuration
 - Installing a USB wireless adapter - that doesn't work either without the whole F8 routine.

  • Wireless Lan Controller Issue

    Hi All,
We have a Wireless Lan Controller 4402 with software version 4.0.155.5. On Friday we experience a problem where our clients wouldn't get redirected to the internal webpage for authentication. It would just come up with page not found. We know the page was working fine becasue we could manually type in the
    https://1.1.1.1/login.html and the
page would come up and you could login successfully. The users who were already connected to the controller were not affected and continued to operate. We have 2 other WLC's at the same software revision and they were not affected so I don't think it has anything to to with software level. Its like the webserver in the wlc failed to work. We failed over the AP's to the 3rd WLC and rebooted WLC1. After the WLC1 restarted we failed one of the previous non-working AP's back to it and it works again.
I know "now" there is debug commands to run at the time when the WLC wasn't working, but unfortunately I didn't know at the time. The WLC is running again fine and I was wondering if anybody has seen this issue before.
Any ideas on a fix or reason would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

We are running WiSM 4.1.185.0 and we just had the similar problem with one controller. The other three controllers were fine when it happened. The exactly issue was the nslookup failed(timed out) from the client, so the web login page won't show when people lunch the browser. A reboot of the controller fixed the problem. We have been running Cisco LWAPP for more than a year (from 4.0.155.5 to 4.1.185.0) and it is the first time we see this problem. TAC is still investigating the cause.

  • 890 GXM-G65 and FX8350 processor

Thanks ahead of time for all replies.    I am ticked off with MSI. I've purchased their motherboards for the last 10 years for all my builds.
I purchased the 890GXM-G65 about a year and half ago, with the understanding it would support future AM3+ processors.  I stated with a 985 Black processor, and now I have purchased the new FX8350, and the board will not boot or post.  I called MSI and they say there is no bios update to support the FX8350, and the powers to be in China probably will not release another bios update for this board.  I paid $148 for this board because it was a stout micro atx board, and now I am told no support for a class of processors they (MSI) said would be supported.
Does anyone know of a work around?   Can you flash a bios for a different series of MSI 890 full Atx boards that support FX8350 to the micro atx?   I'm not looking to buy another motherboard from MSI if they are not going to support their products. Any help or knowledge for the community would be great.  I read a few post where "someone" said they got a FX8350 working, but I think they must have been mistaken.
    Thanks

Not officially supported...probably because the Vishera can draw more power than MSI is comfortable with. That said, it has been done. (Don't blame me if you brick your board.)

For those of you curious if the new Vishera Piledriver processors are supported on this motherboard....that is a positive. just got my fx-8320 in yesterday and with the bios version 1.12 it is fully recognized and overclockable. Happy gaming!!

  • 890-gxm-g65

Just installed the 890GXM-G65 mainboard in my PC , powers up fine and I see the MSI screen for about 2seconds. However is not recognizing my windows 7 dvd as being bootable. I checked the DVD in another PC and it seems to work fine , has the boot folder and all. If i boot without the DVD in it takes me right to the boot menu option and only my dvd-rw drive is showing in the menu , neither of my Hard drives are showing in the menu , they both should have bootable versions of windows 7 on them one is an SSD the other is an HDD. I checked all my connections a few times and even moved the sata cables to different spots on the board but I can not get it to boot from my windows 7 DVD home premium 64bit

Well I tried pressing F11 during startup and it took me to a different boot menu than before. All my drives were listed the dvd drive and both hard drives , I wiped the partitions on both drives and created new ones and installed windows. When the installation procedure went to restart it took me again to the other boot menu that only has my optical drive listed. I shutdown and restarted pressing f11 again and chose my SSD drive with the new windows files to boot from but again it took me to the boot menu that only shows my optical drive(this one is just white text on a black screen, the one with all my drives listed is blue with a rectangle around the menu) It seems whenever I boot without pressing f11 it just takes me to this other bootmenu , is there something in the bios I need to access?

  • LAN Controller issues

My friend just purchased a KT4V motherboard and is having some troubles with the onboard NIC.  When he connects to his DSL service, it will only connect at 10mb/s.  We've tried setting the connection type to 100base t full duplex, or even half duplex, but it will not connect.  It only wants to work at 10base t full or half.  Is this a normal occurance?  If so, we'll just disable it and buy a linksys NIC.  But I'd prefer to use the one that is on there.  Any suggestions?

If this is normal, then why doesn't it work at 100 speed on a 100 hub? even forcing it? always at 10. I think there needs to be a BIOS update or driver issue. I have it on a 10/100 auto sensing hub, and always picks 10, regardless of cable/DSL modem or not... What gives??

  • Re: 890-gxm-g65 -l- Split

I am seeing the same problem as OP where I could not load off the DVD. After following all the step, I now get to the "winki splash screen", but computer hangs after selecting the full feature or just the installer.
I have removed all unecessary parts, except DVD and HDD.
I was able to boot a windows rescue disk, but without driver installed, it could not go any further. Everything is recognized correctly... Except for the DVD that will not load correctly.
How do I get beyond the splash screen to allow me to install the drivers?

Please do not hijack other peoples topic with your own problems.

  • Issues after changing the AP Name on Wireless LAN Controller

I recently changed the AP Name of all the Wireless Access Points in my branch office (which are all associated to the branch office Wireless LAN Controller(s)). After that I noticed that all branch office employees are unable to connect to the employee SSID. The employee SSID uses web authentication and employees are authenticated using Head Office AD via Cisco ACS, both located at the Head Office.
There are other SSID's on the WLC which all work fine, but only employee SSID which uses AD authentication does not work. AD authenticaion is working fine because employee's in HO are successfully able to connect to the employee SSID at HO.
The branch office is connected to the HO via a tunnel link. We noticed that if we restart both the ASA at either ends of the tunnel. The employee SSID starts working again but only temporarily for a day or so... what could be the issue? Can renaming the AP's cause issues? How can I fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks Elliott,
I did the debug like you said and I am getting the following debug messages:

  • MSI FM2-A85XA-G65 system date & time issue

    Hello everyone!
I have a MSI FM2-A85XA-G65 motherboard with an AMD 5800K processor. The date and time won't save in the bios. Sometimes it will sometimes it won't. The system will save for a few reboots, Then when I again enter the bios a different date and time will appear.
I have reset the cmos and have removed the battery with the same results. Other than that the board appears fine. Any help or ideas?

It appears to be a Linux UTC UEFI coordinated thing. So I think all is well. The correct time is on the desktop after all and all other settings remain.

  • KT6Delta onboard lan controller freezes machine!

KT6Delta onboard lan controller freezes machine after a recently purchase of new ram.
            TwinMOS PC3200 TwiSTER DDR 512MB CL2
            Chip = WLCSP, (DDR-PC400MHz)
Why i believe the ram purchase is the issue, you say?
Well you see this ram model is not on the supported list on the motherboard information page to msi. allthough the 256mb model is.
so i had to manually configure the DRAM timing so that my computer would run at fsb 166 and ram at 400mhz.
But lets get back on track. Everytime i copy over the network (large files that use top network speed) the machine either freezes or i might get away with a complete network connetcion loss. so i have tried to copy at different speeds and foudn out that 2 mbyte a sec is possible without the computer hanging.
i contacted http://www.broadcom.com support base and they did not know of any simmilar issues regarding the broadcom 57x integrated network hardware. But they did say that my ram might be the issue because the network card sends its DMA packets there.
    and i quote:
"Response from Broadcom: I am afraid this is not a known issue to me.  But if you are saying with the different RAM this problem was not seen, this point directly to the RAM you use on this system and the compatibility issue.  The RAM could for sure cause this type of the problem since the network adapter DMAs packets into and from the system memory (RAM)."
So can anyone help me? i really want to be able to use my network hardware normally and not being forced to sell my current ram chip and buy a new one.
I can't remember all dram timings options but here are those i do remember.
    CL = 2.5 (yes didn't work with 2)
    Row precharge time = 5
    Ras pulse width = 8
Ras to cas delay = 5

What are your temps? Freezing often happens when CPU usage makes it too hot. I believe there is a way to check CPU usage in XP...
CPU temp is around 45-52 depending on what im doing.

I have a hard time convincing myself that the symtom - the LAN - is the cause.
What do you mean? its the ram chip thats the cause for the network freeze (or at least that's where it all is pointing at).

    KT6 DELTA FISR2 or something

  • AMD Trinity A10-5800K with MSI FM2-A85XA-G65! OC'ed on Air

Here is something to share with you guys today, the new APU “Trinity” Processor together with the latest FM2 Socket Motherboard from MSI “FM2-A85XA-G65”.
Let us start with the Trinity. The APU’s cores are composed of 2nd Generation Bulldozer core or called “Piledriver”. Available in Quad or Dual Core with a 32nm die size and natively supports DDR3 frequency up to 1866mhz. The built-in DX11 graphics is updated which is now 7XXX (Northern Islands) series.  HD Media playback is smoother while reducing power draw. Display Port is now implemented with these new APUs which in total you can have 3 dedicated display outputs (HDMI and DVI included).
In this short review I will be using one of the four Trinity (A10/A8/A6/A4) line, specifically the A-10 5800K. The letter “K” means unlocked multiplier and makes overclocking easier, basically same with Intel’s K series concept.
Specifications of the A-10 5800K APU:
•AMD Radeon Graphics Brand: HD 7660D
    •Total Draw Power: 100W
    •AMD Radeon Cores: 384
    •GPU Clock Speed: 800MHz
    •CPU Cores: 4
    •CPU Clock (Max Turbo/Base): 4.2GHz / 3.8GHz
    •Total Cache: 4MB
    •Max DDR3: 1866
    •AMD Turbo Core 3.0: Yes
    *Virgo Platform = A-Series Trinity APU + FM2 Socket A85X chipset motherboard
Moving on, we now go to the FM2 motherboard model named “FM2-A85XA-G65”. So what is the main advantage of this A85X chipset against the previous A75? The A85X chipset has additional 2x SATA 6GB/s Ports and native Crossfire support while the rest remains the same as the A75, with 4x USB 3.0, 10x USB 2.0 and 2x USB 1.1 ports.
MSI designed this with Military Class III components ensuring the best quality, durability and power efficiency to the motherboard.  These components are the Solid Capacitors, Super Ferrite Choke and Hi-c Capacitors and they passed the 7 Test Quality Military Standard. The board is also equipped with OC Genie II feature which automatically overclocks the installed processor, the built-in graphics and as well the memory module once enabled in the UEFI Bios.
    Product Showcase:
Better VRM and SB heatsink design. Components and sockets are neatly laid out too.
On the left side of the memory slots, you have the Easy Buttons which are the OC Genie, Power and Reset. Below that is V-Check Points which measures accurately the voltages of the CPU, CPU PLL and RAM using a digital multi-meter.
    3x PCIEx1 2.0, 2x PCIEx16 Gen2 (x16, x8), 2x PCI slots.
    8x SATA 6GB/s ports. RAID 0/1/5/10 capable
Left to Right: PS2 Combo Port with Keyboard/Mice auto sense. Realtek RTL8111E Gigabit LAN Port. 4x USB 2.0. VGA and HDMI Port. Digital Optical SPDIF. HDMI and Display Ports. 2x USB 3.0 and integrated Realtek ALC892 8 Channel Audio.
    Lastly the bundled accessories:
    • Driver Utility Disc
    • Certificate of Quality and Stability
•Motherboard manual and Quick Guide for hardware installation
    •Software & Application Manual
    •I/O Backplate
    •2x SATA 6GB/s Data Cables
    •Easy Header Guide
    •V-Check Point Connector Cables
Now for the Test System Configuration:
    •Processor: A-10 5800K 3.8Ghz
    •Memory: Kingston HyperX 2x4GB DDR3 2133MHz
•CPU Cooler: Stock AMD Heatsink Fan
•Hard Drive: Seagate Momentus XT 500GB
    •PSU: Aerocool VP 700w
    •Softwares: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, Futuremark Bench Softwares, Heaven DX11, CPU-Z, Hwmonitor
Curious on the performance of the Trinity’s built-in graphics?  Below are some test results.

That’s it for the short review but before that here are my last words for the new Virgo Platform. The built-in 7660D graphics performs well and beats all the IGP from Intel. Increasing the speed of the memory module will certainly boost the performance of the Trinity’s IGP.  I also noticed that with Trinity, it’s easier to overclock compared from the previous Llano APU.
So Intel’s i3, watch your back and Trinity is here.

  • How to replace the certificate of Cisco 2106 wireless LAN controller for CAPWAP ?

I have interested in CAPWAP feature and I download the open capwap project to make Access Controller (AC) and Wireless Terminal Point (WTP). I had built the AC which used PC and WTP which used Atheros AP. The CAPWAP feature work well when I enabled the CAPWAP that used my own AC  and WTP. When I got the Cisco 2106 wireless LAN controller (Cisco WLC), I configured the Cisco WLC to instead my own AC but I got the authorize fail in Cisco WLC side. It seem the Cisco WLC could not recognize the CAPWAP message which sent form my own WTP. I think this issue just need to synchronize the certificate between Cisco WLC and WTP.So I need to replace the Cisco WLC's certificate manually. Does anyone know how to replace the certificate manually with Cisco WLC ?
    Best Regards,
    Alan

Unfortunately this Support Community is for Cisco Small Business & Small Business Pro product offerings.  The WLC2106 is a traditional Cisco product.  You can find this type of support on the Cisco NetPro Forum for all traditional Cisco products.

  • 4404 wireless lan controller managment via wireless clients

I am having an issue managing a 4404 wireless lan controller via wireless clients.
I have checked the box "enable controller management to be accessible from wireless clients" under management. For some reason that does not seem to fix the problem (page cannot be displayed). I cannot ping the controller by IP but other devices on the same subnet respond. Everything else works fine.
I CAN manage the controller when plugged in a wired connection.
When I do a route print it is identical wireless or wired. The route simple points to my interface. If I modify the route on my computer to actually point to our gateway instead of the interface then everything works. But why should I have to do this only for my wireless connection and not my wired to manage this box?

Thanks for the info. I narrowed the problem down to an ARP issue.
In order for me to connect to the controller, I run a batch file that creates a static ARP entry on my laptop. I don't have to do this for any other device except the controller. Not sure what the underlying cause is, but that works as a workaround right now.

  • Wireless LAN Controller not broadcasting network to Access points

    Good Day Team,
I am working with a 2100 series WLC controller and 1100 series access point.
I noticed that the wireless lan controller is working. Also the access point is working.
The issue is that there is no internet connection on the access point.
    What could be the error?
    Kindly advice

Try do diagnose your problem following this steps:
    1) Connect to the wireless network
    2) Check your IP address with "ifconfig"
    3) Check if your gateway is set correctly with "route -n"
    4) Try to ping your gateway. Is it working?
    5) Try to ping an internet IP like google: "ping 74.125.234.115"
    6) Try to resolve names with "nslookup www.google.com" for example.
    7) Try to traceroute to an IP or name on internet. Check the result to see the last hop you reached.
    8) If you passed all those tests, try this: "telnet www.google.com 80"
If everything works, but not the test #8, your problem could be related to some proxy configuration.
