MSI 890FX GD70 Core Unlock doesn't POST

I have a 555 Phenom II Black Edition 3.2ghz but using core unlock on the 1.6 bios in MSI 890FX GD70 makes the mobo not post. Is there any solutions to this?
Also I have windows 7 installation problems (won't finish "completing installation") part.

You can try, but as said, if it doesnt work now, it probably never will.
Please read the link provided in my previous post, I explained all there is.
Bottom line, your dualcore works fine, but unlocking doesnt work on it, so your other cores are not functioning right and make your system go bananas, so stick with the dualcore.
If you do update bios, read here for a safe way:

  • 890FXA-GD70 core unlocking ability?

Ok, I am about to order a 890FX board. the choice is either the crosshair IV or the MSI 890FXA-GD70. There is a $30 price difference and since I had good experiences with MSI, I wouldn't mind sticking with them.
But there are two features that I am really interested in:
    A) Core unlocking
    B) External OC'ing such as ROG for Asus where you can hook up your laptop to your computer and OC it from there
Anyone know whether such features are going to be available on the MSI board?

You mentioned that you were about to buy an 890 board and mentioned two brands, one being MSI.  You also stated there was a $30 difference.  It wasn't difficult to then feel you were asking for recommendations of one over the other.  Your post didn't seem as clear as your explanation.
    The MSI board page:
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=2025
    Supports unlocking cores.
    The Manual:
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=manual&maincat_no=1&prod_no=2025
I don't see anything about overclocking the MSI board using another computer or laptop.  Why anyone would do that is beyond me.  The best overclocking--the most stable/reliable--method is using the bios and doing so in steps and testing.

  • MSI 890GXM-G65 @ Core Unlocking

Hi guys, I'm new here in this forums.
I just want to ask for those who uses their MSI 890GX-G65 for core unlocking.
    specs:
AMD Phenom II X2 555BE (4 cores stable)
    MSI 890GXM-G65 bios @ 1.6
    G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 CL7 (running @ 1333mhz 7-8-7-24 @1.6v)
    MSI R5770 Hawk
    OCZ ModXstream 600w
My issue is I've unlocked my processor and it's pretty stable, enable ACC. then boot OK.
after some hours of gaming, PC is shutdown. After a few hours, I opened it again and it boot again as X2 yet ACC is enabled.
I have to disable ACC reboot then enable ACC again to unlock it again to x4.
Another issue is OS loading, it's 4x longer in loading than the normal once, my basis in the OS Loading in my PC is after the logo of windows appear, caps, scroll, num lock leds will lit and the mouse then after that it should continue to login screen, but in my case after the lit ups, it hang for a minute(or longer) before continuing to the log in screen. i tried it with all stock no OC, regular OS loading only takes place after reformatting my Computer. after that it returns this kind of case.

I think it's stable enough, btw the x4 to x2 scenario is not always happening. but it has high chances the your next cold boot would you're on X2.
and i do Play games(2 hours minimum), do stress test(1 hour minimum  then back to stock), and overclocking(only when gaming). and i think it's really stable.

  • Please help: New MSI R6770 with MSI MS-7093 main board doesn't POST

I'm upgrading my son's HP a1130n which has an OEM MSI MS-7093 main board. I purchased the MSI R6770 based on a local retailer's advice.
    I took the following steps:
    - upgraded the power supply to a Cooler Master RS500-PCARD3-US 500W
    - set the BIOS to boot with PCI-E video
    - installed video card, attached 6 pin power connector, and powered on
With the video card installed, the computer runs all fans at maximum speed. No POST beep.
After taking the card out, the computer returns to normal.
I thought I'd ask for advice here before returning the card. Thanks.

    Thanks for the response.
I would have to purchase a card to try it. One of the main reasons I went with this card is that with the motherboard layout the RAM is directly in line with the PCI-E slot.  Many of the NVIDIA cards have a long form factor with a large fan housing that would physically interfere with the RAM.
So there's a known problem with the current generation of ATI cards on some motherboards?  In that case, going to a lower powered Radeon series wouldn't help?

From what i have been reading, this is a very tricky task to make a 1090T run memory at 2000mhz.
    Memory's advertised ratings are DDR3 2000Mhz 7-9-7-24 @1.65V
I was able to get it running at 1333 at 6-7-6-20 and 1600 9-9-9-24 (jedec standard) But when i try it's advertised speeds i can't get my system to post.
Tried different DDR voltages and cpu-nb and Cpu Vcore and no luck. Does anyone have any idea about what my ballpark figure voltages should look like. I know every component and overclocking setup is different but i am kind of lost.

Hi, I would like to ask 2 question.
first is, i am using a 1055T x6, but under cpu-z and control center my core is only 800mhz with x4 multiplier.. Is there a way to lock it @ 2800mhz ? Is that normal? I never use AMD before, my intel seem always stick to the core level to me.
secondly, I would like to ask is there anyway to turn up my ram? I am only seeing PC3-10700 @ 667 mhz I would like to see 1600 since i am using corsair dominator 2x2gb 1600 cl 9-9-9-24.
I don't really understand computer, please go easy on me. I have done some reading. Also Do MSI board come with a IDE line? The guy that did my assemble...didn't include one, so i have to pull it from a broken IBM computer (really old one too) Are those IDE cable fine? (only use for my old optical drive)
    thank you.

I've never noticed any performance differences with cool-n-quiet.  As soon as you launch an app that needs the performance it will run at full speed.  You can also create a custom power management profile in windows and set it to run a full speed.  That way you don't have to disable it in the bios.  You just change it to high performance when you want to benchmark or game but it really isn't necessary.

    Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W
    Bios Version: 1.A (Latest)
I'm really stuck on this one.
Basically the computer boots up fine when I have memory in Dimms 1 & 2, but it won't boot and keeps restarting over and over if I have memory in Dimms 3 & 4
    What works:
    1gb in Dimm 1
    1gb in Dimm 2
    1gb in Dimm 1 & 1gb in Dimm 2
    What doesn't work
    1gb in Dimm 3
    1gb in Dimm 4
    1gb in Dimm 1 & 1gb in Dimm 3
    1gb in Dimm 2 & 1gb in Dimm 4
    1gb in Dimm 3 & 1gb in Dimm 4
    1gb in Dimm 1 & 1gb in Dimm 2 & 1gb in Dimm 3
    1gb in Dimm 1 & 1gb in Dimm 2 & 1gb in Dimm 4
    1gb in Dimm 1 & 1gb in Dimm 2 & 1gb in Dimm 3 & 1gb in Dimm 4
Pretty much if I put anything in Dimms 3 or 4 ... it doesn't post and will keep restarting till no end...
So the most I can have right now for it to post is 2gb of ram and they need to be in Dimms 1 & 2 which means they aren't even in dual channel.
All 4 sticks of ram are tested and works fine in another system.
I've also tried various bios settings (disabling Spead Spectrum, Disabling enhanced memory, Various Cas settings, speed settings, and voltage settings) and same problem persists.
    Halp Please!
Edit: I tried putting in some new memory - Gskill DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 - 2GB stick and same problem.
Seems like my memory slots 3 & 4 are bad?

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I did get it to post in the end. Thank God.
The fix for me was to go into memory settings, then under advance memory settings change that from auto to manual. I did not change anything when all the extra settings came up, but either way it posted and I'm happy now to be able to have dual channel memory.

  • Msi 890fxa-gd70 posting problems

the problem started after i installed a new thermaltake frio cpu cooler, i installed it outside of the case on the box the motherboard came in. I get the splash screen but the keyboard wont respond and hangs at code 38 with a usb mouse and keyboard and one sata Hdd & dvd drive plugged in. if i remove the mouse and keyboard it goes to code 78 and hangs. if i remove the hdd & dvd drive it cycles through and tells me i have no boot device. i have tried different combinations and tryed moving the ram around, just 1 stick!. i have tried clearing the cmos throughout doing the different combinations. I have tried all the different sata ports for just the hdd, and i have tried all the different usb ports to try to get the keyboard to register, i did also try another known working usb keyboard. this motherboard has never been OC'ed this is a custom build computer for a friend so i only have limited time to keep messing around with combinations of hardware. the ram is tested and i also tried using one of my sticks from my rig with no luck. so here is the specs
    msi 890fxa-gd70 mobo - bios 1.6
AMD phen II 555 BE - no oc and no unlocked cores
    G. Skill rip jaws 1333 mhz cas 9
this rig was working perfect for 2 weeks before i tried to install the new HS, i already checked the pins on the cpu to make sure that i didnt damaged it. i always practice safe ESD rules and was wearing my bracelet. i was very careful when installing the new cooler and made sure it wasn't too tight of a fit, i have already done this before on my rig same mobo, cpu and cooler and had no problems with it. I am stuck in a corner and I am hoping to find some help out... Any suggestions? Please and Thank You in advance

i have tried that also, the main problem is that i cant get it past code 38 with an usb keyboard in it so that i can enter the bios. i can get it to cycle through and not hang, but that is without any keyboard or Hdd so im back at square one. i still need to try an PS/2 keyboard but finding one is actually harder than i thought it would be. this board hasn't have a bios update, it came with 1.6 already on it. its not even an month old yet. but thank you for an possible answer to this dilemma.

    Hi.
After overclocking 2500K from 4.7 to 4.8 doesn't post anymore.
I tried clear cmos and removing battery from motherboard but without changes.
    Here is video
On video can see red light (DrMos alarm) blinks at the start up. I can't remember if that is normal at start up or not.

    WD Scorpio Black 500gb

I hope it's just wierd glitch with bios.

Nop. And voltage was set to 1.33 for a year.

  • MSI 890FXA-GD70 issues

    Hi all,
I recently received my MSI 890FXA-GD70 and am having a few problems.
Firstly if I enable C1E in the bios the computer reboots as soon as it enters windows(short glimpse of desktop). This occurs in safemode aswell.
I have tried many different combinations of disabling turbo core and cool&quiet etc but it made no difference.
This occurs on stock settings even when loading defaults in bios.
    Secondly I have Apacer Giant II 2x 2GB DDR3 240-Pin DIMM, 1.65V [PC17600].
This ram can apparently run 2200MHz with 10-10-10-30 2T timings.
If I overclock slightly and set the RAM ratio to highest ratio then the system will not post and normally requires me using the cmos reset jumper. The ram speed is normally around 1900MHz at the overclock I desire. I have the above timings in place and have set the DRAM voltage to 1.65V
From what I can tell the motherboard is supposed to be able to run 2133MHz.
If I simply lower the multiplier so that the ram is running close to 1333MHz no issues.
Am I doing something wrong when it comes to running the ram at higher clock speeds?
I read somewhere that I should increase the CPU-NB voltage. I set this to one below red and I currently have the ram running at 1712MHz with 10-10-10-29 1T.
I am not sure what is safe here, but I do have pretty good flow in my case.
It seems that increasing this voltage must be necessary, but I would like someone elses opinion if possible.
Thanks for any help in advamce
    System specs:
    MSI 890FXA-GD70 Bios 1.6
    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
    Apacer Giant II 2x 2GB DDR3 240-Pin DIMM, 1.65V [PC17600]
    MSI 8800GT OC 512Mb
    Huntkey 600W PSU
Corsair H50 in push pull config
    CM Storm case

Haha thx for that. Rookie mistake...
For all the other timings I was just pressing enter and changing it like that.
As for the C1E thing, even when its stock standard doesn't seem to work. It doesn't really bother me though.
Seems like the cool and quiet is clocking down the cpu anyway.
Is there anyway to test the turbo core easily, seems sort of random when it decides it will activate it.
I tried running prime on only 2 cores but it splits the load over all 6.
Any ideas of the ram speed. It should be able to run at least 1800+.
Any specific voltages I should increase?
Also when overclocking I have disabled the cpu phase control and left the ddr phase on, as I am not adding any extra voltage to the ram.
Not sure if this is correct, but if I clock to 4GHz with 1.377V then ControlCenter reports about 240W when under full load with Prime.
    Thanks

    Quote
I called intel, and they claim that the RAM is not compatible with this processor.  They said this processor (i7 970) is only compatible with memory of 1.5v and at speed 1066.  Unfortunately, the corsair module I tried is working at 1.65v, therefore it is not guaranteed to work.  Will try with 1.5v mem kits, and follow up afterward.
True, Intel i7 970 native speed is in fact 1066, however, the RAM you have can easily be set to say 1333 9 9 9 24 tRFC 88, maybe even 59, CR 1 @ 1.5V's & I would almost guarantee it is going to work. One tidbit they didn't tell you, is the i7 970 & 980X 32nm CPU can be run with up to 1.8V's DRAM Voltage. That's per the current Intel datasheet (absolute maximum chart). Look it up for yourself. I don't want to argue with Intel, or the stock/default of 1066 @ 1.5V's as 100% correct to the letter of the law, but I have some of that RAM & two of these boards, & I know they will perform above 1066. Unless of course, either the board, CPU, or RAM just won't cooperate. With three things in the mix, any one of them can make or break what can be done. Your RAM can be, unless something is grossly wrong with it, be made to run stock/default of 1066 speed @ 1.5V's.
This is a BBX with Corsair RAM & an i7 970. Wonder what Intel would say about this?
DRAM Voltage in BIOS set 1.66 (WARNING i7 970/980X only), CPUID H/W Monitor shows 1.65V's. Always consult the latest & most current component datasheets! Know the specs!

I had everything working for 8 months or so then everything suddenly went bonkers....my cpu wouldn't start up.  I replaced my PSU and took everything apart and I had it working outside of my case for 2 weeks and then it decided not to start up again.....I resat all components with no luck.
I RMA'd my motherboard to MSI and had it swapped out.  Now....I went to reseat everything and like an idiot; I had spilled excess arctic silver 5 onto the mainboard socket and the PCU.  I cleaned everything best I could without any solution and tried to start it up; CODE FF (only using 1 stick of ram and video card).
I did some reading and picked up some loctite electrical cleaner http://www.rshughes.com/products/079340_1174633.html
and cleaned everything out.  I used a fine brush to clean out the socket.
Now; I installed pcu; heat sink; 1 stick ram (tried all slots) video card.  I also made sure my power connections were hooked up---pcu and mainboard---I still get a code FF immediately..no post; nothing.  Every time it goes to code FF and nothing else.  Fans run and the all lights on the motherboard light up...the PCU lights are on as well. (all 4)
I've tried every solution I've read on this board and whatever google could find for me....my questions is (sorry for long story); should I just replace my PCU and motherboard as I messed it up with the arctic 5?
    Thanks for any insight!
