Msi 890fxa-gd65 1 beep begins to post then shuts down...help?

Hey I just purchased a 890FXa-gd65 board this week and have a phenom 2 x4 970z in it with corsair 2x4GB 1333 ram thats made for phenom 2, i looked it up on corsairs website to make sure. Im using 2x XFX 5850 graphics and an OCZ Agility 3 sata 6/gbps SSD along with two WD Caviar blacks. This is a new build, although i tried using a phenom 2 x4 965 originally but had same problem. so, i boot up get a single beep the comp begins to post and then shuts down. vie tried dif ram and now have tried a dif cpu. vie tried using only 1 graphics card at a time and switching between 1 and the other. always gets the same response. i do not have the sad or hard drives plugged in either. originally i was using corsair vengeance 1600mhz ram but thought that was the issue because of the speed being to high so i got some 1333 just to make sure and it still is doing the same thing. i really don't know what to do at this point. in the 15yrs vie been building comps for myself and others vie never hit a brick wall like this. any suggestions? just to make sure i tried running just the board ram cpu and video card onto of the motherboard box it came in, as msi tech suggested....still nada

i have a corsair 850HX 850watt. Nevermind It turned out after getting a friend to plug some diagnostic hardware into it we found out it was a dud mobo. I RMAed it and after plugging everything into a new board things worked fine. sorry i wasted your time. i appreciate the help you give to people who need it, thanks again.

  • Mini will begin to boot, then shut down.

    Hello all,
My 8 month old mac mini has just developed this issue: It begins to boot, displays the Apple Logo, the spinning circle and then an empty progress bar underneath the circle. Nothing ever fills the bar, it disappears and then the machine turn off completely.
This happens every time I try to boot it up - even after unplugging it for a while.
    I am baffled!
    Thanks in advance,
    Stu

It sounds like your Mini is either trying to startup in safe boot mode or it think it's supposed to be installing a firmware update.
I would suggest booting up the computer without any devices connected -- except for the monitor and the power cord.
If the problem is being triggered by an external device, the system should boot up properly. (You can then connect a mouse and keyboard to control the computer -- even while it's on.)

  • Multiple Problems with MSI 890FXA-GD65

I am having problems getting a clean build of new components to work.  The components are:
    motherboard is MSI 890FXA-GD65
processor is AMD Phenom II X2 565 Callisto
    memory is 2x 4Gb G.Skill Ripjaws X model F2-12800CL9D (CAS 9, Unbuffered DDR3 1600)
disk drive is a Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1 TB SATA III
card is an MSI N460GTX Cyclone 768D5/OC.
power supply is an Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W
    operating system is Windows 7
All items are brand new, and being assembled for the first time, so nothing is overclocked.
I have three problems.  First is that the video output is flaky.  I initially thought that the board wasn't POSTing, because I was getting no audible 'beeps' and there was no display output (does this board not have a speaker or speaker header?).  Through trial and error, I discovered that the board was POSTing, but I could not see anything because of a strange video problem:
If the monitor is connected when the video output changes, then the video will not work, and disconnecting/reconnecting will not fix it. For example. If the video cable is plugged in during a cold start, I will get no video output. If I wait a few seconds until the Bios loads, and then plug in the video, then I get a video signal. However, if I leave it plugged in as the video output switches when Windows starts up, then I lose video again. Only by plugging in and then unplugging during the same video output mode can I use the output.
I have tried 2 different video cards (same mdodel number) with the same result.  I have tried switching my memory with only 1 stick and with both sticks installed.  I don't have another processor to try.
The second problem is that Windows will not run with the USB controller turned on in BIOS.  It starts 'loading files' and then just hangs.
The third problem is that the MSI utility program will not run properly.  I tried to install the updated chipset drivers, but the installation hangs.
Thanks for any help!!  I am on the verge of returning the board to NewEgg after many hours of trying to troubleshoot this build.

Thanks for the reply.  I am using the DVI output on the video card connected to a VGA monitor with an DVI-VGA adapter.
No external USB connections have ever been installed.
I don't have any other DDR3 laying around.  Is there a recommended memory list on the MSI site?  I couldn't find one.

However its down to the CPU as memory controller is there.
You should use AMD tested memory sticks

I know it's not a heat issue because i touched the heat sinks on the mobo and they are not hot at all.
I have taken the board and exchanged it at frys; this is the 2nd board so i'm pretty sure its nothing wrong with the board.

Why then does MSi mainboard default to this speed?
Steve64, do yourself a favour and search for RAM SPD profiles on the net. Memory module manufacturers write the SPD information to the EEPROM on the module. Motherboard BIOSes read the SPD information to configure the memory controller. If that SPD profile is not in line with the native RAM speed supported by the CPU, then the board's BIOS will be set to the incorrect memory speed as can be seen in this post. Its an industry design standard (JEDEC) and the memory manufacturer is the cause of the incorrect setting when the user buys an incompatible set of memory.
The rest of your post has been removed as it adds no value to finding a solution.

  • MSI 890FXA-GD65 North Bridge Temperatures

Hi there I have recently purchased the MSI 890FXA-GD65 for a new build. The thing that suprises me is that the temps on the North Bridge are very random. It normaly stays in the 55 C- 65 C range, but it is constantly jumping up and down in a matter of seconds. For example it goes from 58C to 65C in a second and then could drop to 55C the next second and after that could jump to 70C and it just continues playing. I am wondering if anyone else has the same issue with the readings and what could be the cause of ti?

I am waiting for a memory at the moment. However the airflow in my case is more than adequate, GPU idles at 30C and does not exceed 50 under load with the fan at 25% of the max speed. The CPU is well cooled with no fans on the heatsink (Thermalright Black 120), idling at 25C and going to 45C under load and overclocked. The RAM modules are very cool on touch as well and my MB shows constant temperature of 28C - 30C. I think its something wrong with the diode, because there is no way that the temp would jump from 55 to 70 in a second and the next second to come back down to 60. I was just wondering if someone else has similar thing with their mobo. I have got 3 year warranty on it so I am not that worried about it, plus it is not crashing or anything, its just the readings.
P.S. I forgot to mention that this is not detected as NB on any program. Instead on AIDA64 shows up as AUX temperature, and on HW Monitor comes up as TMPIN1, but I read it corresponds to NB usually. Plus this is the warmest part on touch.

  • MSI Z77-G45 starts then shuts down and restarts

    Hi,
I got a brand new MB Z77-G45, with an i5-3470, 2x4Gb Kingston DD3 XMP Blue, and a WD Green SATA 6Gb/s. All that into a Cooler Master N400.
Plugged everything into the MB, powered it and it starts, the 3 fans spin, the frontal led flashes, as well as the 4 leds on the MB but nothing on the screen (with the "no signal" message)
and then shuts down. And restarts again. Shuts down, restarts...
It run with an Advance 600W and all components are new. Any clue?
    J.

Good news: a friend brough one stick of DDR3 and it worked! So now, it's just a matter of finding out if the Kingston I bought really is faulty, or if, as you suggested, it's a matter of updating the BIOS.
Either way, I'll post the update and hopefully along a [SOLVED]
Thanks a lot for your input, guys.

  • I'm trying to order a book in iphoto. everytime it begins to upload, iphoto shuts down in the middle of the process

i'm trying to order a book in iphoto. everytime it begins to upload, iphoto shuts down in the middle of the process. Whats the problem?

    Hi TD,
Yes they do appear in full size and I can edit them. I've just realized that it's not just photos from the Net that are not appearing - it seems to be happening for all photos I've imported into iPhoto after a certain date.
After spending many more frustrating hours trying to work this out, I found that if I click all of the 'events' which contain the photos I'm after and then create a Book - all these photos appear in the selection window strip. However I still need to work out a proper solution as this still limits me to only those photos in the highlighted 'events' and no new pictures can be added to that particular Book.
    Heeeelp please!

Here is the issue I did the minum connections before putting the computer in the case to make sure it would POST, but it doesn't. The motherboard speaker doesn't make a sound but the 8 led lights on top of the MOBO are all lit. I cant get any response from my monitor when its hooked up to my video card. the fan from the PSU and video cards are spinning but again no POST can anyone help Me with this thank you., also I used a second power supply and still no POST or response from the monitor but again all the fans are working and all 8 of the led lights are lit at the top of the MOBO. once again thanks for your help.

    Good evening!
    All parts are new?
Use a single stick of memory.
Recheck all power connections are well in place, and don't forget the one near and for the processor.
Don't think that is the problem, but for good measure you should also reseat the graphics card.
I'm not sure whether this mobo has a speaker.

  • MSI P67 GD65 Boot Beep change after bios flash 1H & 1I

    Good evening.
First of all my pc specs:
    - Msi P67 GD65 B3 Revision
    - i5 2500K
    - 2 * 4 gb DDR 3 G.Skill Ripjaws XF3 1600 mhz
    - Sapphire HD 4870
    - Ocz Vertex II 60 Gb (windows 7)
    - Western Digital Blue Caviar 1 tb (storage)
Today I flashed the bios using a bootable pen drive.
Previously I had the 1.9 version and all went perfectly fine. The booting sequence was : 1 short beep, short beeps counting my usb devices and 1 final short high tonality beep.
Now I updated to version 1.I and the beep sequence changed completely: now I have 1 long low tonality beep, short beeps counting my usb devices and no final short high tonality beep . Also it takes some more seconds than version 1.9 before making the beeps!
I tried also versione 1.H (which I have in this very moment) and I experienced the same faulty beep sequence
I also tried to clear c-mos and load optimized defaults but I still have the same beep sequence in both cases.
    What shall I do?
Please notice I never changed memory or cpu settings (no overclock at all)

    Quote
They say do not care about the beeps if the PC could work normally.
Same thing I already told you...
Forgot about those stupid beeps.  As long as the system starts & boots fine, they are not critical error signals to begin with but status signs, that tell you that some things are there.
    Quote
What do they mean by "the new bios should fix some beep error" ? Which bios are the talking about? Maybe the upcoming 1 L version which is going to be released in future?
What they are telling you is that the beep sequence is not something to worry about. That the beeps "lie" so to speak and that you are looking for a meaning that is not there.
    Quote
What beep sequence do you have with 1.C version compared to the two videos I posted ?
It does not matter.  You are getting hung up on beeps even though the system is obviously running just fine.  If the beeps are getting on your nerves, then unplug the speaker from the board and enjoy the silence.
This is a non-issue.  Stop being paranoid.

  • MSI 890FXA-GD65 Info Needed

     Hi All,
I willing to purchase the 890FXA-GD65 motherboard after checking out its features and price. I would like to know if this board supports Crossfire at                  full 16x/16x bandwidth. Please suggest some websites to know about the full 16x/16x bandwidth crossfire and capable AMD motherboards.
Also, please tell me the notable feature difference compared to the 890FXA-GD70 motherboard and also to the new 990FXA series motherboards.
     Thanks....:D

Well, seems that there may be some inconsistency on the website with regards to the AM3 and AM3+ classification then:
When selecting AM3+ socket boards only the 990s are filtered. See here.
Thus my earlier response. Apologies if that was incorrect.
Also found the following information which may explain it.
    Quote
Difference Between AM3+ and AM3 Socket
    - Socket AM3+ socket has an extra pin
    - The AM3+ motherboard will have bigger hole. This increased the current carrying capacity and eases processor insertion into the motherboard.
    - The bigger hole also increase the signal integrity as has been claimed.
    - The clips to hold the fans have improved design that will make the CPU cooler.
    - AM3+ sockets are backward compatible with the AM3 sockets
    - If you have invested in the older AM3 socket consult your motherboard manufacturer. Probably a BIOS upgrade will make it work with bulldozer processr.
    - Bulldozer processors require AM3+ socket, but a AM3 socket may also work with BIOS upgrade. Check with motherboard manufacturer.

  • High-pitched beep/sound during sleep and shut down modes

I just wish to check whether is it normal that there's high pitched beep (not very loud but can be heard in a quiet room) which seems to be from the LED or AC Adapter during sleep mode. The beep sounds continuous when the computer has been shut down or in off mode while the main plug of where the ac adapter is connected to is still on. Is this normal? My computer works fine. Battery is charging fine. I just want check whether is this normal. It is has been like that ever since I bought my computer on March 2012.
HP Pavilion dm4-3005tx Entertainment Notebook PC

    Hello Huanwei,
It appears that you can hear a "high pitched beep" coming from the notebook while it's in sleep mode or even off, when the power adapter is plugged in and "on". I will try to help you with this.
Normally, this should not happen. Beeping from a computer may happen during start up a few times to indicate components enabling, but any constant beeping or being while the computer is off shouldn't happen.
Does this occur, if the AC adapter is not connected to the notebook when it is in sleep mode or off? Do you only notices this, in a specific location? (office, etc.)
I would suggest, depending on the setup of things. Taking the notebook with no AC to another location in the house. A quiet one, make sure your not near any other electronics (no watches or cell phones either) let the notebook sleep and see if you hear the beeping. If not, then power it off and test again. If no beeping, this is good and the notebook is fine.
Repeat that same test with the power adapter connected ( again no other electronics around you). Listen while it is "sleeping" and off to see if you can hear the beeping again.
If you do disconnect the AC from the notebook , but leave that connected to the wall and take the notebook out of that location, go back to see if you can hear beeps again. If you do it could be the AC adapter. If you don't then it could be an issue with that only when it's connected.
If there was no beeping when the AC was connected in this "testing location", then I would guess it is something else within the house that is beeping (we have seen that before). In which case you'd have nothing to worry about in regard to your notebook.
Let me know where the above leads.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • K7N2GM-V won't POST after shut down

    Hi all.
I just did my first build on a K7N2GM-V and it won't POST after I shut down. When I hit the power button, PSU does not turn on, fans do not turn on, nothing happens. If I wait about 10-15 minutes, then it will POST and boot normally to my XP Pro SP1. Nobody seems to have had this problem and I am stumped.
Could it be due to my power supply? My PSU is the one that came with the X-QPack, which claims +3.3V(18A), +5V(22A), +12V(20A), -5V(0.3A), -12V(0.8A), +5VSB(2.0A). I don't have a spare PSU to test this with.
Any ideas? Please let me know what additional information might be needed.
    Thanks.

  • MSI 890FXA-GD65 Shutdown(fans continue)/black screen

At random times as well but usually when I'm playing a game (but not always) the computer will go to a black screen with the fans continuing to spin. Some times my CPU fan gets really loud. I had been using the graphics card and PSU in my old machine with no problems, only after I installed the new mobo/cpu/ram did this problem begin to occur.
When this problem happens I can only turn the computer off with the powerswitch on the PSU.
I saw some other people had this issue but no resolutions were given. Also there's seemed to occur more frequently, mine might go for days with no problem. Right now I'm unsure what the issue is some I'm thinking of replacing the motherboard under warrenty. I waited too long to switch it with the store thinking it might be a driver issue but after having all the drivers updated it still continues.

    Hi guys,
I have the same board and I am experiencing the same thing. Random shutdowns after a week or so leaving the computer on. Tried to change everything but the motherboard so as a last resort I am trying the following after this thinking. The 890FXA is compatible with Bulldozer and as you can't have a BIOS for every CPU they must have merged functionalities. Remember this extra Pin for Bulldozer? well it is all about managing power so in my mind I thought that:
    1) different power management with BD
    2) same BIOS
    3) same software developpers
    4) same shutdown of the computer (CPU fan still running 100%, no video, ...)
    5) same BS from MSI
So I looked into the BIOS and found the Green Power section that I entirely disabled (it also removed the cool VRM Led for the CPU but who really cares?). So far it's been 7 days that my computer is up doing cycles of encoding / decoding TV shows and I'm crossing my fingers. Give it a shot and report please... Hope it'll fix the board!
