I built a computer with the specs above for my brother and this set up worked fine for about a month. It started giving errors so I had him update the motherboard (http://www.msi.com/product/mb/890GXM-G65.html#/?div=BIOS) and graphics card (http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pages/psearch.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.43&contentType=GPU+Download+Detail&ostype=Windows+7+-+32-Bit+Edition&keywords=&items=20).
Then it started to go into a "boot from" where it would keep asking to boot from primary or secondary mode. I turned off the 2.2 TB thing and after resetting the CMOS (by taking out the battery, waiting a bit, then putting it back in) it would kind of work, but would eventually crash into a blue screen of death.
Now I can't even get into the BIOS anymore.  It also never automatically recognize the hard drive (tested on another computer and it works fine) and displays a message saying no hard drive was found. If I attempt to go into the BIOS, I get sent to a screen that lets me choose between my hard drive and the 2.2 TB thing. That or the computer reboots. When choosing the hard drive, I get as far as the windows logo. However as soon as it finishes loading, the computer restarts.
The computer is also in a constant state of rebooting.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I don't want to buy another motherboard if it can be helped.

After tinkering around, the computer will work in Safe Mode with my hard drive. However, the computer is unable to recognize the hard drive. Also, the hard drive works perfectly on my computer.
I switched PSU's, so it's not a power issue. Also correct me if I am wrong, but if the CPU or RAM had failed it would be unlikely (if not impossible) to enter Safe Mode. So it isn't a hardware failure issue.
Is there any driver I can uninstall or something to reset the hard drive without reformatting it? Perhaps in trying to update the hard drive for the motherboard (through the link given in above post) I messed something up and made it incompatible with the motherboard.

  • MSI 890GXM-G65 Thuban Issues

    Hi,
Sorry if I post this in the wrong section.
I've been using v1.0 original bios for MSI 890GXM-G65 board without any problems.
Recently I tried updating to v1.2 to enable support for X6 1055T as stated in the link below.
My cpu code is HDT55TFBK6DGR which is the 125W version and requires v1.2 bios.
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=2012&maincat_no=1#menu
I am unable to turn off Cool'n'Quiet feature for the Thuban core.
Enabling or disabling the setting in BIOS has no effect at all.
Multipliers keep dropping to x4 from the stock x14.
I also could not find any setting in BIOS to switch off Turbo Core.
I posted the issues in detail here:
    http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showpost.php?p=45130922&postcount=66
I found out that the MSI 790FX-GD70 also do not have such a feature to disable Turbo Core.
In comparison, the Biostar TA890GXE has that setting in its BIOS so this is not a specific issue for 890G-based boards.
Lastly, I could not get CPU-Z (or any other programs for that matter) to display accurate readings of the cpu vcore (set in BIOS).
Will MSI be releasing a new BIOS soon to fix these issues ?
    Thanks.

Ah, that explains it. How's that Thuban CPU running at stock levels compared to other Quad-cores (if you have had any)?
Actually that hardwarezone link in my first post goes to my mini review of the X6 1055T.
    http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2731901
Unfortunately I only have synthetic benchmarks to compare the results with.
This is my very FIRST phenom chip from AMD.
The only quad I ever tried was the Intel Q6600 (used for 1-mth) before sticking to 2-core processors ever since. LOL!

I don't see a bios update yet for the 790FX-GD70. This mb I am running is my brothers...haha. I am waiting for the 890FX-GD70.
One of our local overclocker "ridney" is using the X6 1055T on MSI 790FX-GD70 with the latest 1.11b1 bios.
He has the same cpu batch as me but he is on water. I'm not willing to go >1.52V on air for this hexacore chip (not yet anyway).
He had posted all his OC'ing @ http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=249606
The screenshot posted (towards bottom of page) @ https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=136443.0 was his!!
The reason I posted my inquiry here is because I thought there would be newer (beta) bios for the 890GXM-G65 which MAY allow me to disable turbo core.

  • MSI 890GXM-G65 Overclocking Problems

    I have:
    MSI 890GXM-G65 motherboard
4 GB OCZ PC3-16000 Platinum Edition memory (OCZ3P20004GK) runs at 1.95v and 2000 MHZ at 9-9-9-30
Sapphire 5870 1 GB video Card
AMD 955 Processor (Black Edition that runs at 3.2 GHZ)
Without anything else overclocked I cant even raise my front side bus to 204 without it not posting at 16 multiplier.  203 post fine.  I upgraded Bios to 1.B.
I have several other questions, but this is the first concern I have and that I would I like to address.  Hope my motherboard is not not "broken".  This is mainly just a thread starter and will get into more overclocking questions/problems later one...after addressing this issue.

    Here are my screenshots:
Im sorry but I made a mistake.  Before I use the Control Center my Ram speed is around 1666 instead of 1706.  I get 1706 after I up the Front Side Bus in Control Center to 256.  Hope this didnt confuse any.
As far as the Hyper Transport speeds.  I am getting as you can see in the mid 2500's.  The Box and website show 2600.  So is this a misprint because you would think that 2600 would be out of the box instead of an overclock?
My 12 volt rail is 70 amp.  I am using the 850 watt Kingwin MK Power Power Supply.
And again another question that really hasnt been answered yet.  If I can overclock on the software side of things (Control Center) should't I be able to overclock on the hardware side as in bios.  For example I am getting 250 FSB on Bios, but I can only get up to 256 in Control Center.  You would think that if it works in Control Center is should work in Bios.  And this is a very Stable FSB too (after testing with 3dMark etc.)

Hi, need some major help.  I just got a MSI 890GXM-G65 mother board / AMD Phenom II X6 processor.  Installed it in the Antec Fusion Micro ATX case and the fans spin, seems like everything is powering but no video from the onboard video.  I’m using a corsair vx 550 powersupply.  No matter what I try I can get anything on the monitor.  Is this a grounding issue? Powersupply not good enough? I just tried taking the memory out to see if it would beep and nothing.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • MSI 890GXM-G65 @ Core Unlocking

Hi guys, I'm new here in this forums.
I just want to ask for those who uses their MSI 890GX-G65 for core unlocking.
    specs:
AMD Phenom II X2 555BE (4 cores stable)
    MSI 890GXM-G65 bios @ 1.6
    G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 CL7 (running @ 1333mhz 7-8-7-24 @1.6v)
    MSI R5770 Hawk
    OCZ ModXstream 600w
My issue is I've unlocked my processor and it's pretty stable, enable ACC. then boot OK.
after some hours of gaming, PC is shutdown. After a few hours, I opened it again and it boot again as X2 yet ACC is enabled.
I have to disable ACC reboot then enable ACC again to unlock it again to x4.
Another issue is OS loading, it's 4x longer in loading than the normal once, my basis in the OS Loading in my PC is after the logo of windows appear, caps, scroll, num lock leds will lit and the mouse then after that it should continue to login screen, but in my case after the lit ups, it hang for a minute(or longer) before continuing to the log in screen. i tried it with all stock no OC, regular OS loading only takes place after reformatting my Computer. after that it returns this kind of case.

I think it's stable enough, btw the x4 to x2 scenario is not always happening. but it has high chances the your next cold boot would you're on X2.
and i do Play games(2 hours minimum), do stress test(1 hour minimum  then back to stock), and overclocking(only when gaming). and i think it's really stable.

  • MSI 890GXM-G65 Black Screen

Hey guys, new member, but Ive been a longtime reader.
I have the MSI 890GXM-G65 motherboard with the following other components:
    AMD X4 820 CPU
    8GB (4x2GB DDR3 1333) ram
    1TB Western Digital
    Antec High Current 400W PSU
    DVDRW
I have a black screen on the PC when it boots. The monitor doesn't turn on at all. I removed all peripherals except CPU, motherboard, ram and power supply.
    Here's what I have tried:
    1. Replaced RAM with other known working ram
    2. Tried one stick in each of the 4 slots individually.
    3. Tried a different power supply.
    4. Installed a PCI express video card.
    5. Switched CPUS to an AMD B73 CPU
    6. Tried VGA, DVI and HDMI on the motherboard output.
None of these things have worked. The CPU fan spins at what appears to be full speed, all four blue LEDs are on, and there is no video.
Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do?

It isn't a new build. It was working before with these exact specs for about a year. This is my HTPC, so I don't use it  too often, last used a week ago. I turned it on today and got nothing. So I've been replacing every part I can.
Forgot to mention  that I also cleared the CMOS, which did nothing.

  • Win 8.1 update with MSI GX70 issues

    Hello people.
I recently updated my MSI GX70-3BE from win 8 to win 8.1 pro (update from store, not clean install), along with numbers of new driver supplied by MSI (VGA, SCM, killer network, etc.) and BIOS (w8_E176KAMS.50D) + EC (w8_176KEMS1.505)
Now I notice 2 problems after the update
    1. Bluetooth headphone won't connect if I turn bluetooth off and on from SCM window, and my headphones also disappeared from playback device in control panel > sound. This never happened when I was using win 8. The ways to reconnect with any bluetooth device again are, first, disable then re-enable "Realtek Bluetooth 4.0+High Speed Chip" in Device Manager, another way to do the job is to restart the machine. This is very annoying because I can't use SCM alone to turning bluetooth on/off.
PS. I use SCM from windows 8 as the new one for win 8.1 doesn't has trackpad control, but tried both version and still get the problem
    2. Just after I updated Bios and EC, I used Samsung magician to observed my SSD (samsung 840 pro 128GB) but it shown that my SSD is running in Sata II 3Gbs/s which never happened (again) in Win 8. I also used other program to see if it's running only 3 Gb/s and benchmark results dropped by half from those with Win 8. I tried to updated firmware&EC and AMD catalyst control but that didn't help.
Does anybody ever experienced anything like this??  Please help. Any suggestion is welcome.
    Thanks you

This is really the first I've seen any issues regarding this. The bluetooth is especially strange. The best I can say regarding that issue is to contact MSI about it.
    >>How to contact MSI.<<
The Samsung 840 Pro was very troublesome on most of the GT60/GT70 notebooks, as it wouldn't run at SATA3 speeds on those, at all, ever. No matter what Firmware/BIOS/EC or driver you used, it just wouldn't work. No one ever figured out why, most just shy'ed away from using it because it was a problem and didn't perform as well over time compared to other drives. Perhaps try checking in the bios to see what it's recognized as before Windows boots to see if it shows up at SATA3 or SATA2 speeds?

  • MSI CX61 issue - blank screen, amber power button. Help appreciated.

    Good evening,
I have an issue with my MSI CX61. If anyone can help I'll be very grateful.
The notebook is unmodified it has all the original hardware straight from the box.
The issue is that the MSI, when turned on, seems to access the hard drive for a second before the blue led that indicates hard drive access stops blinking. The MSI doesn't even reach the logo. It is completely unusable, there is nothing on screen, at present I cannot access bios.
The battery led to show the notebook is charging starts off blue and then turns orange.
The power button is persistently Amber.
    What I have attempted:
I have attempted to run the computer directly off the battery, battery taken out, and the problem persists.
I have connected my laptop, via HDMI cable, to a TV while turning the notebook on; the TV stays blank but appears to receive a signal
The harddrive is working while attached to another laptop, it can access all my data.
If this is important the last thing I did was install steam. The problem started when my computer cut out. No warning, it still had battery also.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
    Jharris

Ok hi, it seems like you might have the windows black screen error and its because of faulty windows updates, it usually occurs on windows 8 systems but might occur on others too. What i suggest is to set it back in time before you installed steam and now you can do this by pressing f8 or f9 or shift f8 or shift f9 or f10 or f11 when starting your laptop.
Try the different keys just spam click it really while restarting or booting cold your laptop and test all the keys im 100% sure one of them should work or maybe its another key but u should come to windows recovery options and from there u choose reset. Try it and tell me if it worked thanks!

  • MSI GT660R issue

Okay... So here is the deal... I have a MSI GT660R that I got two years ago and I m absolutely PLEASED with it! However... I have an issue now and was hoping for some idea as to what it may be.....
The notebook was working fine until recently... I let it fall asleep one day and when I booted it back up the screen was black but I could still see the images and words faintly on the screen... I figured it was the LED lights and sent the laptop to have the screen replaced locally as my warranty for my notebook is up...
Today I picked I back up an the guy said the new screen worked fine... He booted it up and again the screen was black.... This time he tried the old screen and it started to work again.... I brought it home ( free of charge since I did not take the new screen) and the screen went black again!!! I also noticed that the half-moon that lights up when it sleeps is always lit and flashes occasionally.
I have tried unplugging it, removing the battery and holding the power button for 60 seconds and that did not help.... Could someone please tell me what is going on???

    700 watt thermaltake
So many "faulty" cards lead to bad PSU.
    p.s.
GTX 560 is better than 6850 and 5830.
Why don't you stick with the Nvidia card?
    p.s.2
Switching from AMD to Nvidia all the time (due to "faulty" cards) is a very bad move.
Probably your OS is already messed up.

  • MSI 690 Issues

    Hi Guys,
This is my first post here, and infact my first MSI product.
I'm having some issues installing drivers and getting the card to work.
I'm on a fresh windows 7 64bit install, Before I reinstalled my OS I had alot of problems getting the driver/card to work. after some messing around I managed to get it to work, decided I had messed the OS up a bit I would reinstall and start fresh and this is where I'm at now
if you would like to see what suggestions I have already tried.
if you google MSI 690 faulty I think my post on a uk overclocking website will come up.
    but my system is
    I'm using a 3930k
    16gb
    Asus maximus formula 4
    corsair 750HX
    windows 7 64 bit
    Great full for any help..

OMG what a idiot, I'm sorry I was expecting you guys to read my mind there
when I install the MSI drives from the CD or latest from the MSI site or from the Nvidia website in device manager I see exclamation marks next to 2 690's and in the properties I see this error
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
I cannot open the nvidia control centre either.

  • 694D Pro-A (MSI-6321) issues

Just bought a 694D Pro-A v. 1.0 in retail box off Ebay.  There are several confusing issues that I would like to ask about.  This board has the "B" chipset version (so there is no separate ATA-100 chip),  no RAID, and onboard sound.  Running Dual PIII 700, 1 Gb SDRAM, 2 WD HD on primary IDE, and a Matsushita DVD and TEAC CD-ROM on the secondary IDE.  GeForce MX2 64Mb AGP graphics card.
    1)  The BIOS says v. 3.3 01/30/01 but the MSI website says that this version is only for the Pro-AR or -AIR?  But this board is NOT RAID equipped!
    2)  The system will not boot from a CD-ROM, even with it configured properly in the BIOS, where the same CD will boot on my other computers.  I found a note somewhere that says that some boot scriptors have problems because some older BIOS versions have a bug with regards to booting from CD.
    3)  I tried to FLASH the BIOS to v. 3.7 using an NTFS boot disk and following the appropriate directions on the website for non-FAT drives.  The FLASH utility started, and allowed me to save my old BIOS, but then nothing happened.  When I manually rebooted the old BIOS was still there.  There is no BIOS protection in the BIOS itself, and the pins that are supposed to be on jumper J5 (per the manual) to lock/unlock the BIOS do not exist!
    4)  The system will not restart, either by pushing the reset button or doing restart through either W2k or XP.  This also happened during set-up of those systems independently.  The only way to get the system to boot is to completely power it off and on again.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

No luck flashing the BIOS with the new boot disk.  I am able to get the flash utility to work, but it comes up with a message saying "flash type - unknown flash" and then when I try to install the BIOS it says "error message - unknown flash type"
I also tried the LiveBIOS auto-update, but it could not find a proper BIOS, despite the fact that the MSI website says all MS-63xx boards are supported, but there are not MS-6321 BIOS listed?
Is it even possible to flash this BIOS?
