MSI 915GM Speedster-FA4

I've plan to purchase MSI 915GM Speedster-FA4 and combine it with my Pentium M 755 (479pin).
I searched the web for best price, but I found two different specification for CPU socket, one is Socket 478 and the other is Socket 479. Which one is correct info? ???

Actually the pentium M comes in socket 479, but according to intels site they do come in 2 different types Micro FCPGA & FCBGA.
and according to the sSpec# there is a 479pin version of the newer ones.
the  1.86 comes in both of the ways below - so make sure you get the SL7S9 if you were choosing between them.
SL7SR  1.86 GHz 533 MHz 90 nm C0 2 MB 479 pin
SL7S9  1.86 GHz 533 MHz 90 nm C0 2 MB 478 pin

I have flashed the BIOS to the new 1.13 from the site, but still have problems with overclocking and the SATA HDD.
When I go above 165FSB, I no longer have SATA drives visible in the BIOS, and the system tries looking for another boot disk.
Is there anyone out there who has overcome this problem, or is there a newer 'beta' BIOS available to overcome this problem?

  • 915GM Speedster-FA4 , banias CPU support

Does the MSI 915GM Speedster-FA4 motherboard support Pentium M Banias CPU?
I think that Celeron M (100MHz FSB series) are similar to Pentium M Banias, but to be confirmed.

Dothan is newer than Banias. ... so I'm not sure...

  • 915GM Speedster-FA4 - ICH6 or ICH6R which one?

    Hi
I recently purchased 915GM Speedster-FA4 based setup. I was planning to set it up with raid0 and lived in impression that this motherboad has built in support for it (ICH6R). Manual states that MB is equipped with "optional ICH6R" southbridge, but there isn't any kind of mention how to enable it. There are also whole section about setting up the raid. But of course document starts with enabling raid in BIOS and at least my version (v1.13) doesn't have any options to do this.
So the question is, does this motherboard have raid support or not, and if there is how to enable it?
    Thanks

  • 915GM Speedster-FA4 Help needed.

I have tried to put together a system based on the 915GM Speedster-FA4 motherboard.
     But it just wont post.
I have installed CPU and memory and PSU, nothing else.
I have tried two different CPUs, both 400Mhz Dothan, one SL8BA and one SL7GL
Can anyone confirm that they are compatible with the 915GM Speedster-FA4 motherboard?
     The Jumpers are:  J4 (not connected), J5 (2-3 connected), J6 (2-3 connected)
I have tried both DDR1 and DDR2 memories (not at the same time)
Using a 20-pin PSU. I will try to swap PSU, but after that I have run out of ideas
Is it possible to get any diagnostics from this board???
    Advice please!

  • 915GM Speedster-FA4 - works with DDR2 667MHz?

    Hi folks,
first of all: sorry for my English - hope you'll understand me
    I've bought a 915GM Speedster-FA4, I will run a P-M 750 on it.
    Now I'm looking for RAM.
DDR2 400MHz / 533 MHz is supported by the board, but will also 667 MHz RAM run?
(manufacturer will be Corsair, model: value-ram DDR2 667 MHz)
    I don't have any experience with DDR2 - but e.g. in many
boards with DDR 333MHz support I ran 400 MHz without any problems.
    Thanks a lot!

"DDR2 400MHz / 533 MHz is supported by the board, but will also 667 MHz RAM run?"
should be not a problem, board should accept 667Mhz stick(s) or higher rated and will run it as 400 or 533. if you using 2 memory sticks ensure they are same brand & specification.

  • Tips overclocking 915GM speedster-FA4

    Intel
    hai there,
this mobo is a good one even they're not the best on the oc.
i manage to run @ 166mhz with sacrifice the onboard ich 6 r and replace it with a pci sil 3112 and did it even with a 180mhz oc but hiks hiks hiks my proc need a higher voltage than the standard 1.35 and this mobo wouldn't let me change the vcore(hiks hiks hiks). i hope with the new bios i can change the vcore(pleaseeeee).

Yes it´s an interesting MoBo, ( I´ve been thinking about it for my P-M 730 cpu), however mATX "server"-boards does not normally have all OC settings like ordinary desktop boards.
    What bios are you running at the moment  ? Latest 1.13 have an OC fix ;

  • HELP!!!!! 915GM Speedster-FA4 PCIe x1 slot not working - SORTED

Hi, I am at my whit’s end with this motherboard, I cannot get the PCIe x1 slot to work. When I use the PCIe x16 slot it recognises the option card OK but the x1 slot will just not see it.
I know the network socket 1 needs to active for the PCIe x1 slot to work.
    Any help would be appreciated.
SORTED - IRQ clash with the onboard boot ROM for Lan socket 2 - NOT DOCUMENTED - MSI PLEASE TAKE NOTE

Sorry there is no MSI in here....
It seems that nobody used that config to be able to help.
And no, I'm not from MSI either

  • 915GM Speedster-FA4

i have not purchased this motherboard but i am buying a new pcie card and i dont want to upgrade my current Pentium 4 (socket 478) to a new one and this was the ONLY s478 pci express motherboard that i could find.  So i am wondering if my P4 will work with it because under supported processors it says " Supports Intel® Pentium® M Dothan/Celeron® M Dothan processors in 478-pin package ". Does that include my processor? And also the only place i could find this board sold ONLY the board and not the driver cds and cable etc so when i tried to find a driver download i was unsuccessful as well so if someone could point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it. Thanks

You are correct, your proc is not supported.

...Where can i get a board that does i have looked everywhere. Thanks for the reply.
Here are the boards that support P4 478 procs, none of which support PCI-e.  I am not aware of any PCI-e board that supports P4 478 procs.

  • MSI 915GM-FR Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 915G Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Yes, because of recent turbulence   considering some of the ram I recently bought, I am looking for different Ram that is compatible with this board:      MSI 915GM-FR Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 915G Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
I know that some places it says that the voltage is 2.5, but could I push it a bit with 2.6  ?  because I really dont want to buy a no-name brand for what I want.  However, if not, thats the way it is...

Most boards have the DDR voltage set to 2.6V I believed. So if you put in a 2.5V rated DDR, it will still work. Undervoltage may not. You can always refer to MSI Test Report on DDR http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_trp_detail.php?UID=606
but those are not complete list.

  • In search of msi 945gt speedster-a4r (MS-9632) or low power consumption

When and where can I find the msi 945gt speedster-a4r or MS-9632?
Although this board has been announced, appears on the website with specifications, and has been exhibited at tech shows, I can not find it in the USA.     Update:  MSI, itself, did not return any of my calls or email but one of their distributors, ASI, was very nice and said this board would appear in the USA at end of May 2006.      New update:  ASI now says end of April.
I want a system that consumes low power yet will run a controller board in a pci-e slot at x4, 8, or 16,
this MSI board looks like the thing: it runs a core duo yonah type processor and has a pci-e x4 slot.
So far, the 975x boards like Aopen have dual pci-e x16 slots but they appear only to work only with graphics boards.
I want to put a raid controller areca arc-1230 into the slot.  Areca was very responsible and actually tested the 975 boards to find out that they did not work at this time.

I'm afriad that nobody can gives you a definate answer on your question as this concern many factors to say as in production lines, marketing and distribution.

  • Msi K9ND Speedster -- Motherboard Problems

I need some help with a MSI K9ND Speedster motherboard which i purchased on ebay, apparently new.
    Im using
    Opteron Socket F (1207) 2218 95W 2.6GHz -- OSA2218GAA6CQ
    512MB P/N - NT512T72U89A0BV-3C x4 -- 1GB per cpu.
    Old PCI Graphics Card.
    Floppy Drive
    Enermax 600W & 430W
Im running 2 Enermax PSU's, 1 600w, other 430w with them both supplying power to the ATX12V 8-Pin socket, they also supply power to my Geforce 8800GTS XXX graphic cards, when i get the system running.... It could be my psu setup is causing me problems, but the motherboard is giving me strange behaviour, and its hard to say, plus i don't have a drop in PSU replacement.
The second cpu in cpu1, does not seem to be registering.... but is reported in the temperature screen at around 33C, while Cpu in Cpu0 is detected, but is said to be running at around 75C "i checked the cooler multiple times"... Ive got 4 sticks of ram in the computer, but only one stick is being detected.... though its hard to say with the limited bios features... The cpu0 is reported to be running at 1.3v, while cpu1 is running at 1.13v...
I need some help from some other K9ND speedster system owners, as ive been trouble shooting & researching all day, and ive not been able to find much in helpful information...
I tryed updating my bios to 1.3, but it tells me something about "not enough DMI OEM line space" and makes me reboot...
    My brain hurts

Okay... The Enermax Galaxy 1000W arrived this afternoon, and i installed it and all the other other hardware over the last few hours...
The K9ND is not posting with the memory installed in Dimm sockets net to CPU1 ? and since i last posted i  bought an 8mb or 8MB chip with v2.10 flashed on it, and ive installed it in the motherboard, thankfully with no problems, but no change so far.
System Don't seem to be shorting with the case, as i wouldn't be able to turn it on...
System is booting without the ram in Dimms1, and im now writing on the forum using the machine...
My sli graphics cards are giving me a code 12, something about there not being enough resources, hopefully i can fix that problem...
I checked with cpu-z, to see what my cpu information is, and both would seem to be the same, though its reporting my memory is working in single channel more, and not double channel like it should with ram in dimm0 sockets 3&4.
I got a headake, need some more help & suggestions please.

  • MSI 945GT Speedster will not boot with Authentec Biometric/Fingerprint Reader

Has anybody else seen POST problems with USB devices attached?  My 945GT Speedster-A4R systems will not POST when Authentec AES2501A Fingerprint readers are attached.  I unplug the devices and the systems work fine.  If I plug the devices in while the system is on, they work fine too and the drivers load.
For these sensors to be used properly, as user login devices, they really need to be present during startup.  Plugging them in after startup is not really an option.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    James

First off, I appreciate the responses.  I have some updates, but I still have the problem too...
MSI Tech Support gave me a beta BIOS to try, and it did not fix the problem (v1.2b5).
I have not completely pinned out the USB connectors, but I am only using the USB adapter that came with the motherboard.  I am not using any "front panel" USB ports on the chassis.  This motherboard ships with a 4 port USB adapter that takes up a PCI slot in the chassis.  This adapter cables back to the two yellow USB headers on the motherboard.  I would sincerely hope that MSI correctly matched the pinouts of the USB ports to the pinouts on the motherboard - the connectors are keyed and only go on one way.
I disabled "Boot to Other Devices."  No help.
I also found another USB device that causes the same hang.  I gave my kids Sandisk Sansa c250 MP3 players for Christmas.  When these devices are plugged in hot, they work fine.  If they are plugged in, and we boot or reboot the system, the machines lock up during POST, just like when the Biometric readers are attached.  It is beggining to look like there is some serious USB compatibility issue with this motherboard.  It is also not just one bad board - I have two systems that behave the same way right now.
    Thanks,
    James
