MSI 925XE BIOS 1.3 to 1.4 Upgrade problem/question

Hi,
Today I upgraded my board from BIOS 1.3 to 1.4 (successfully, *phew*). The BIOS page on the MSI site states that it fixes some problems, but nothing related to temperature sensors is mentioned:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=635&kind=1
Now the actual problem/question is that with BIOS v1.3 my full load temp was roughly 65 degrees celcius (3.4GHz LGA775 CPU). Now with v1.4 my full load temperature shows up as 47-48 degrees celcius.
This of course doesnt seem like a bad thing at first, lower temp = good, but I cant help but wonder whether the temperature was being inaccurately shown in 1.3, or whether it is being shown wrongly now with 1.4. A drop in full load temp of about 18 degrees celcius sure raises some questions.
If anyone knows anything about this, Id appreciate any feedback. Also if there is some kind of tech support email address that MSI has (I couldnt find one on the site), could you please pass it to me, thanks.
I didnt post my entire system specs because really all the other components are irrelevant, I didnt change the setup in any way other than the BIOS. If I needed to post some addition info, tell me what it is, and I will.
Thank you.

Sorry that I didnt reply for a while. Busy weekend. Anyways...
What kind of chassis cooling? When as I said the case is open right now cause Im still experimenting with everything, so really its like no chassis at all for now. What kind of fan do I use with the XP-120? Its a quiet fan, I cant seem to find the box. If Im not mistaken, its the green version of this:
http://www.thermaltake.com/dcfans/led/thunderblade120.htm
And finally... Yes of course I was able to fit the XP120 on the motherboard, how else would I be running the comp hehe? BTW, I wouldnt necessarily recommend it to others though, the installation was very problematic. But still, its possible.

  • [925 Series] msi 925xe neo platinum issue

    dear guys
i have just assembled my pc with the above-mentioned board but noted discrepancies with other 925-based boards when benchmarkings are performed. I understood that the same problem also occured with msi 915-based board but all seem to resolve with a bios update. When benchmarking are done with pc mark 2004, my ram marks only hit somewhere around 4700-4800, and cpu benchmarkings also are a bit low as compared to other boards with sisoft sandra 2005. Is MSI working on that or i just have to accept all this issues?
    thanks in advance
btw, my pc specs: P4 2.8 GHz (FSB 800 HT-enabled), MSI 925xe neo platinum, A-Data DDR II 533 256 MB x2, Seagate 80GBs NCQ HDDs x2 as RAID 0, and Maxtor 80 GB SATA as RAID 0 and Optical drives.

I don't think it's the motherboard fault and its most likely due to the OS and hard drives. I had the same problem when I installed windows 98 and upgraded to windows 2000. I created a slipstreamed windows 2000 CD and installed windows 2000 from scratch and my problems stopped. Originally I was getting scores in 3D Mark 2005 of 4300-4800 and that was the graphics score. After installing windows using the slipstreamed CD I was getting scores of 5600. I think it was a SATA drive issue, which slowed down system and stopped it working as it should. Though you probably have windows xp installed from scratch I thought I would say this anyway as it kind of is relevant even though it's your CPU and RAM you're having trouble with.
You could try changing SATA ports or updating the drivers for the controllers if it's the SATA dirve to blame though I am sure other people will prove me wrong.
Is the CPU showing up at the speed it's supposed to?

  • MSI VGA Bios Not available

I ran Sandra last night to pull up sys info. The MSI 9800GT BIO was written in the year 2000. I also know the next comment will be,> what do you think a bios does and why should it be update.
It should be updated to unlock parameters that were not taken into considerations ten years ago.
I have never seen Sandra miss read anything, it has always been on the money, and very conservative in its reply.
Where is the updated BIO for MSI Graphic accelerations?

There is no such, the BIOS is not a driver and shall be not updated when everything is working fine.
If need it, it can be provided by MSI Tech.

That VGA is not 10 years old I fail to see how VBIOS can be 10 years old in such case.

  • Does MSI provide Bios Updates for 8800GTX?

Do they provide bios updates fpr the 8800GTX?

It's the same problem as 7 month ago.  I'm not sure if i postet the problem here, so I describe it once more.
When I'm running bios 7.20 on my mainboard everything is fine (I'm running bios 7.20 for 7 month no with no problem, so the PSU (BeQuiet 550W) can't be the problem)). If I change the bios to a higher or a lower version my Windows XP looks like this:
    http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/5262/041000011rv2.jpg
It doesn't matter if I reinstall VGA driver or use the windows standart one, it always looks like this.
Vista gives me a bluescreen bevor the Desktop shoud appear.
I knew to other guys who have the same Mainboard and also have a 8800GTX (ok, twice times other brand but the cards themselves should be equal). The only differnce is that they have a higher VGA-bios version, for example eVGA has Provides an VGA Bios update for the 8800GTX but they don't say what esspecially is fixed.
So far everything is fine, using bios 7.20 is ok for me, BUT I now want to buy an Intel Q6600 CPU and for that I need to upgrade at least to 7.50.
So Maybe MSI has a newer bios for their 8800GTX which solves the problem. I'm sure that it is nothing else. Windows has always been fresh installed, VGA driver is always the newest one (Did I say that the Windows VGA driver doesn't work to on XP?) and with bios 7.20 I have no problems, I can play, work, everything so I don't think it's a hardware fault.
The only differnce between my Mainboard + Graka and the Mainboard + Graka from my friends is the VGA-Bios version. So I thought this must be it.
I poorly can't try another 8800GTX at my mainboard because they won't give me her cards.

  • REQ - MSI U270 BIOS mod with unlocked UEFI option

Hi guys, I'm new to this board.
I've searched everywhere and couldn't find any MSI U270 BIOS mods. I'm trying to upgrade to the Windows 8 BIOS, but since the update package can only be used under UEFI mode, I'd have to enable UEFI in my BIOS. BUT, there isn't an option to do that, and there isn't a DOS version of the BIOS update either.
    Thanks in advance.

  • MSI Z77 GD55 Slow BootingUp when plugged a Cardreader PROBLEM!!!!!!

I have Msi Z77 Gd55 mainboard. I like this mainboard but I have a little problem. If my card reader is connected via usb and also slots are empty, the first booting black screen is waiting for 10-15seconds. If not plugged it counts the codes in 2seconds and starts loading windows rapidly. It  waits at B4 debug code for 10-15 secs and then comes A2 and starts normally my windows.
I have tested other brand Card readers also with internal and external models but the problem  is the same. I dont have this problem with my other mobos only having at Z77 GD55.
I have disabled the card reader at the bios Booting/usb but didnt solve the problem exactly.
A bios update may solve this problem................

  • MSI MSI DKA790GX Bios update problem

Recently set up a MSI MSI DKA790GX system with a new X4 940. Thing is it appears the bios is 1.2 which seems pretty old at this point. I've been trying to update to the latest bios (1.6 ?) but I can't. Live Update tells me there is a check-sum error. I assume the issue is with the 1.6 bios. I tried using the HQ USB Flashing Tool method and I got the same error. SO I got to assume that something is wrong with the bios file.
Has anyone else tried to update this board with the latest bios? Any luck.
This is annoying as I want to update the bios as I'm several revisions back and I want my new processor to be FULLY recognized.
    TIA

  • MSI-6712 BIOS update issues

I have a PC, running XP Pro SP3, which was built for me nigh on 9 years ago.
    Motherboard: MSI-6712 (KT4V-L) Version 1.0 (North Bridge KT400A Rev 80, South Bridge VT8235 Rev 00)
    CPU: AMD XP2800+ CPU (Socket A 462, 3000 MHz)
    Memory: 1.0GB DDR
GPU: nVidia GeForce FX-5200 (128 MB)
About 4 years back I considered updating the BIOS, but the MS LiveUpdate utility (v 3.5 I think it was) no longer worked (wrong URL). Tried updating it, but the update (can’t remember the version) shut down my system whenever I tried to use it. So I rolled back and left it.
Recently, a program I was evaluating (running on .Net 4 Client Profile) caused my PC to freeze up and after uninstalling I discovered all manner of problems with USB peripherals (recognition and auto-play issues).
Tried to restore a backup (Retrospect Express HD) from a Maxtor One Touch III external drive but it wasn’t having it, presumably because of the drive recognition issues, and a straight System Restore wouldn’t complete (because XP would freeze at log off).
I feared there had been hardware damage, but decided to try a clean re-install of XP Pro. The person who built the PC had left a folder of system set up files (VIA chipset 4in1, LAN, RealTek AC97, nVidia drivers, utilities etc) on the hard drive (which I backed up) but when it came to installing XP, I couldn’t figure out which chipset drivers to install, as there were multiple versions (presumably for his purposes). So I let XP install the default windows drivers and then replaced them with the latest VIA 4in1 set for the KT4V-L from the MSI download page (can’t post link) – driver version 5.11a, release 20.4.2007
Seemed to go well, but it was suggested to me that it might be a good time to update the BIOS. So I installed MSI Live Update 5 and ran a scan. Strange thing is that an automatic scan (which pulls up just the nVidia driver and utilities) reports that none are installed and a manual scan reports that the BIOS, Drivers and Utilities are the latest version and no there is need to update. How can that be? I’ve never updated the BIOS and the only other utility I re-installed is PC Alert 5.
Yet when I run a SIW (System Information for Windows) scan and it reports the following:

How is it that Live Update 5 doesn’t pick this up?
So, apologies for the convoluted post (thought it best to explain the events leading to this), but what to do?
    1.   Do I need to update the BIOS, given that it has never been done and I now have the latest VIA 4in1 drivers installed?
    2.   Why is Live Update 5 not reporting the status correctly and is there anything I can do to correct this.
    3.   Otherwise, if a BIOS update, is warranted, should I go ahead and download directly from the Global MSI webpage and then which version? (can’t post link). I note from the version descriptions that it was v1.7 (26/12/2002) that added support for AMD XP 2800. Strange then that the guy who put together my PC, would not have updated the BIOS from v1.0 to 1.7 at that time!!
    4.   Should I also update the nVidia driver, and if so, when? Before or after a BIOS update or is that irrelevant?

Sorry for cross-posting to another forum, but this has got me in a twizzle
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/pc-hardware/89688-need-ram-recommendations-msi-kt4v-l-2.html#post493343
According to the poster (Post #30), the KT4V-L can support 3gB DDR400.
I looked at the MB in my PC and it is in fact stamped MS-6712 KT4AV v10A (assumed 1.0A ). Both CPU-Z and SIW report it as a MS-6712 v1.0 (BIOS 07.00T  04/02/01, Firmware 101.114)
According to the MSI product webpage, the only difference between the KT4AV and KT4AV_L is that the latter includes an (optional) on-board 10/100 LAN.
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/KT4AV.html#/?div=Detail
The ethernet port on my PC is (as described in Device Manager) is a Via Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter, whereas in the listed MSI specifications, the optional 10/100 LAN is stated to be a VIA VT6103 LAN controller. So possibly then I was mistaken in assuming that my MB is a KT4AV-L.
Even so, if the statement about the KT4AV-L supporting 3gB DDR400 is true, surely this also applies to the KT4AV ?
Looking at the available BIOS updates on the MSI page, I can see no mention of an upgrade in DDR400 capacity:
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/KT4AV.html#/?div=BIOS
Edit: Ah, the guy in the post specifically refers to a KT4V-L v1.1 not KT4AV-L and I see that it is different product:
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/KT4V---KT4V-L--v1-0-.html#/?div=Detail
What's confusing is that they all designated as MS-6712. So if anyone, like me, does a look up under MS-6712 they could pull up either version, and since the KT4AV/L and KT4V/L have different BIOS update series, I can see how someone could easily flash the wrong BIOS.
That aside, the memory specifications for the KT4V/L are essentially the same as those in the User Guide that came with my KT4AV:
Supports up to 3GB PC1600/2100/2700/3200* DDR SDRAMs
*See Glossary for recommended DDR400 modules - with the largest listed module capacity being 2 x 512MB
So where does this "up to 3GB DDR400 capacity" notion come from. I'd really want to believe it. And if the guy in the PC shop is to be believed, I'd settle for just 2GB.
Edit 2: Oh, boy, so there is a separate product listing for the KT4V-L v1.1:
    http://us.msi.com/product/mb/KT4V-L--v1-1-.html#/?div=Detail
Yet, the memory specifications appear to be the same as those for the other MS-6712 versions and BIOS updates are the same as those for the KT4AV-L (very confusing). In fact the downloadable User Guide is the same  - 'KT4AV MS-6712 (v1.X) ATX Motherboard'.
    Am I missing something here?

  • MSI GT70 Bios unlock Request

Hello, i was wondering if you could unlock this Bios for me. Its an MSI GT70 0ND 452US laptop
    Mainboard:  MS-1762
    PCB Version:  REV:1.0
    BIOS Version: E1762IMS.50X
    BIOS Date:  21/01/2013
EC-FW Version:  Not sure why this hasnt come up?
Aso i am having a problem with my graphics card and wondered if you could help? I basically bought this laptop without the Nvdia GTX 680m card in it. So i bought a second hand one off ebay, i installed it and it sort of worked but the drivers wouldnt install. So i looked online and re flashed the V-Bios with an MSI branded one off techinferno forum
However when i restarted the laptop it just hangs on the bios screen, but it does try to boot in ACHI mode which is strange? I have tried to reflash in this mode but it doesnt find the Card. Any Ideas? It should work in principle and i do have the old V-Bios. Maybe the laptops bios isnt accepting the Graphics Card?
    thanks for any help

don't know, officially msi do support video card upgrades, users are their own.
    some my guesses:
    the card can be defective
or the vbios that you have flashed to be unstable or to be incorrect for your card, use card original vbios
or the charger to be too weak for entire combo include the new powerfull card
    or something else

  • MSI CX61 BIOS/brightness problem

My CX61-0NF laptop came with bios version E16GBIMS.406 and on the MSI site I saw that the latest version was E16GBIMS.902, so I went ahead and flashed the bios with the latest version. Everything was working fine before the update so I know it was pretty stupid of me to update even if I didn't have any problems. After the update, I thought everything was working good but turns out the brightness adjustment(FN+up/down) only works when inside the BIOS environment and stops working when the OS(windows 8) starts loading, adjusting via windows settings also doesn't work. I've already done a clean install on a clean hard drive so I know its not a driver/software problem. I even tried an Ubuntu Live CD I had but still no go.
I managed to find an older BIOS version(older that the one it had originally), E16GBIMS.400, flashing to that version restored the the brightness adjustment but it killed the nVidia GT 645M gpu(not detected by driver, gpu-z reports core/mem as 0mhz).
So now I'm back to the 902 with no brightness adjustment.
Anyone ever encountered something like this?
I've been trying to find where I can download my original bios version but hours with google got me nowhere.
