MSI 945P Neo - IDE Card & SATA Drives

I installed an IDE Card in the PCI slot and conected my Zip750MB  Drive to it but it isn't being recognised.  Have I missed something ?
Also which is the best configuration for my SATA drives ?  I have a SATA I and a SATA II drive.  One I use as boot and installing programs.  The other is used purely for storing data.  The Western Digital is used as backup.  Which is the best setup for speed and reliability ?
I haven't set up any RAID configurations yet, either.
Thanks

Is the zip drive being properly recognised in other system?
The zip drive is already recognized by the onboard IDE.
I think this is between zip drive and the ITE RAID card.

  • Problem with msi pt8 neo-v and sata drive

hi, i have a hitachi 80gb sata2 drive( its configured to work as sata1 to work properly on the motherboard) and the msi pt8 neov motherboard, the problem is that the transfer mode is showing incorrectly on hdtune and everest plus it doesnt give the features right, like shown in the image below. everytime i open hdtune gives me a different transfer mode and features get ticked/unticked.
ive tried the disk on another pc i have and it shows info correctly so it cant be the hard drive, what could be causing this?
i have installed the hyperion 5.13a drivers and tried too with the microsoft drivers, still the same.
hope someone can help me out as is driving me crazy!
oh one last question, in bios settings i see the sata drive( just using one) as bbs-0(raid) HDS728080pla380 why is that? ive tried disabling "bootrom function" under Sata controller but then it wont recognize it, is there a way to change this??

SATA Transfer mode, it changes everytime i open hdtune AND features get ticked unticked everytime i open hdtune as well, like if transfer mode was changing constantly
Unless, you use your disk purely to benchmark, your transfer rates will dynamically change. As data is written to drive or removed.........
    Everything is working fine

  • MSI 945p Neo-2 V Hanging...help!

Hi, after an exhaustive search regarding the problem and one previous post topic about the same thing happening (with absolutely no resolution, I might add) I've decided to start a new post topic to see if anything can be done.
I have in my possession an MSI 945p Neo-2 V (MS 7176 ver. 2A1 written between PCI slots) connected to various other components, all of which appear in my signature.  When everything is connected and the power switch is pressed, the power turns on, the heatsink fan and computer fan both turn on and the hard drive clicks to life.  After that..nothing.  No bios, no "no os detected", nothing screaming at me that I done eff'd up.  At this point the diagnostic bracket sits on this:
    1. Red 2. Red
    4. Red 3. Green
which tells me it's hanging on the video initialization.  After RMAing the first board that did this to me and getting a completely new board and processor, the same thing happens.
I have tried the various steps suggested in the other topic: separate component testing, using only one memstick to get bios to post, sitting the mobo on a non-conductive surface and turning it on, checking front panel jumper connectors, but nothing seems to be working.  I swapped out every component with known working ones to no avail.  I swapped in every component to a working computer and separately they all work fine as well.  The people I'm making this computer for have been waiting about a month for the RMA to go through and everything and I'm about to lose both my mind and reputation here.  Can anyone help?
    EDIT:  Here's a link to the original topic I found - https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=94091.0
    Other Edit:  guess it's a neo-2 v, not h

i suggest you to swap the graphic card first and see how it goes.
Prior to this incident did you OC your rig??
Alternatively try clearing cmos or jump start the psu using a screw driver
-Yes, I swapped out graphics cards, with a known working one.  Still no change.  I thought "broken pci-e x16 slot" but this is the second mobo of that type that's doing this, so either this particular type of mobo is crap or I'm getting shafted.
-No I never OC'd (wasn't going to try, either), since it never got past the video init, and therefore couldn't get to the bios.
-Cleared the cmos (the JBAT1 jumper I believe) and still no change.
-And I really don't trust myself with a screwdriver and electricity.
-Finally, no, I didn't update the bios.  This happened out-of-box.

  • MSI 945P Neo-F - PC doesn't boot

    Hey,
my PC worked for about 1 1/2 years, but a few days ago suddenly it didn't boot - the screen was black and the PC made some beep sounds (1x long, 2x short -> video card defect). I installed the D-Bracket and it says, that there is a problem with the floppy device (but i have NOT a floppy device). I did the C-MOS reset -> nothing changed. I changed the RAM sticks -> nothing changed. I unplugged all devices (but video card, CPU, RAM, PSU) -> nothing changed. What shall I do now? (I have no other video card - only AGP, but my board doesn't support AGP)
    PC Data:
    Mainboard: MSI 945P Neo-F
    CPU: Intel Pentium D 920
Power Supply Unit: 350W (with case "Jou Jye JJ-7029B")  Detailled Specifications
    RAM: 1024MB (and also tested with 512MB DDR2 Corsair Value-Kit [Dual-Channel])
    Video-Card: MSI NX6600 - VTD256EH passiv
    And... Sound+Networkcard, Mouse+Keyboard, DVD-Drive

    1) Reset CMOS
    2) Test with only 1 x RAM
    3) Test with a better PSU
    4) Test with another GPU

  • MSI 945G Neo-F BIOS SATA/IDE Configuration

    Hi,
Rather than just keep guessing, I'll just ask.  I'm building a new PC with the MSI 945G Neo-F (7176-040) motherboard.  I will be using a Western Digital 250 GB SATA hard drive and two IDE CD/DVD R/W drives.  In the BIOS, there are different ways to configure the drive setup and I am confused as to which is correct.  In the past, when I attempted to configure drives, I couldn't get it right.  I think this is mostly because I have always used IDE and now, with SATA, it's not so easy.  When I try to configure this combination, one or both don't get recognized.  This time, I'm going to rely on those that have this procedure down, to lead me in the right direction.  This is a straightforward setup...no RAID...just one hard drive and two CD/DVD-type ROMs, but both SATA and IDE need to be incorporated.  I appreciate any assistance I can get.
    Thanks...Vince

Vinz, this board is very straight forward. There is no RAID on this board. You may read the P4 Unoffiical Guide on the SATA + PATA setup for the details.
Where can I find this guide, link please, as I am having the same issue with a BSOD while installing windows with the cause mentioned as pci.sys
    thanks for help

  • P31 Neo V2 , confused by SATA/IDE? SATA drive seemingly using UDMA 5?

HI guys.  I am a little confused after using slipstreamed SATA drivers to install XP Pro SP3 on my new PC and  a SATA 2 500gb drive.
When I look in device manager I dont see any SCSI controllers at all,  under IDE controller I see ICH7 SATA and ICH7 UDMA drivers AND TWO primary IDE channels and TWO secondary channels.
When I look into the chanels, I only have 2 items attached (correct), one IDE DVD drive using one of the primary channels at UDMA 4 and the SATA 2 500 GB which is seemingly using the other primary IDE and running at UDMA 5!
How can I get the 500gb SATA 2 drive to use the SATA 2 - 3gb channel which is advertised for the board?  At the moment it seems to be using IDE compatibility mode and I cant get it to move over to SATA whatever I do.  The board has no AHCI option in the bios, only SATA on/off, IDE on/off.  The default is both on, and thats how I installed windows XP.
Have I been conned when it said SATA 3gb capable?

    Quote
If none are needed then none will be used
I know.  That is why I said it was unnecessary for this mainboard (none of the drivers are needed).
    Quote
    IS he wrong?
Not entirely. Part of your statement in that forum was wrong.  This part of your comment was correct:
    Quote
that its meant to be that way.
    But this one wasn't:
    Quote
SATA is a form of IDE apparantly
SATA is not really a "form of IDE" (I never told you that and that user is right when he says "thats not correct").  The IDE/Legacy Mode is an operating mode of the SATA Controller which will allow Windows to handle SATA Drives as IDE Devices (for maximum plug&play compatibility). It does not mean that the SATA Drives operate as IDE Devices (or are IDE devices).
And this is what that user said as well:
    Quote
because your mainboard has Legacy modus enabled for the SATA controler/ports
There is no contradiction here.  And to be more precise:  The SATA Controller of the ICH7 Southbridge only supports IDE/Legacy Mode, so there is no way to put it into any other operating mode (AHCI or RAID).
I will attach a screenshot of my Device Manager (I use the German Version of XP, but you will find the important information anyway).  I use a P45 Platinum.  The SATA Controller integrated into the ICH10R Southbridge is currently running in IDE/Legacy Mode.  My SATA-II HD is listed as being attached to the one of the Secondary IDE Channels.  As you can see, Windows shows "UDMA 5".
I have used this drive on a number of Intel Boards (975X/ICH7DH Chipset, P35 Platinum/ICH9R Chipset, P965 Neo Combo/ICH8 Chipset).  Whenever the SATA Controller is set to IDE/Legacy Mode, Windows will report IDE Channels and "UDMA 5".  It is a side effect of the IDE/Legacy Mode (for which no SATA Drivers exist (at least not for Intel Chipsets) and no descriptive value whatsoever.  This is basically the price you pay for such a plug & play compatibility mode (make Windows believe it is an IDE Drive), but it does not mean the drive is not operating within in specifications of SATA-II.

  • MSI K8T Neo2 issue with SATA drives....

I have a K8T Neo2 motherboard, with a 3700+ San Diego core, running Windows XP Service Pack 2. I don't have the version with the Promise SATA Raid - using the VIA SATA RAID. I am using the latest BIOS (according to the Live Monitor).
The machine was set up (the OS installed) on an IDE 40 gig drive. All was fine, but I noticed that my machine lagged at times (mostly games, under heavy disk load) so I decided to get a couple of Seagate 250 gig drives (they have NCQ, which I know is not supported by this MB, but they were on sale, and I'd read that the drive should still work ok).
I attached the drives, and enabled SATA in the bios. The machine boots fine. I created a single 500 gig striped array using the two new drives. Windows XP sees the array fine, but that I have to initialize it.
Every time I initialize it I get an error that says, "An error has occured" and tells me to check the event log (nothing there), and to either restart the Disk Manager or reboot my computer. The OS actually locks up a few times when I'm doing this (the mouse-cursor freezes).
I've tried using the disks as two single disks, same error (and it reported that they were only 137 gig each, though apparently it's a registry issue, and I used a util to change that setting, but I haven't tested to see if it changed anything.).
I got the latest VIA SATA drives from the MSI site, and installed them (though honestly, WindowsXP saw the card and the drives just fine). One weird thing is that the VIA SATA RAID is listed under SCSI devices in the Device Manager - there is no SATA category in there.
I'm at a loss here. I've searched the web, and this forum, without luck.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
*Edit* I just unplugged two IDE disk drives from the computer, and when I started it up again, it found a Promise SATA Raid controller. I thought that wasn't included with the basic version of the board?
    David.

Ok - thanks - I read through the stickies and updated my bios tonight to 9.20 (the latest).
Had some dry-mouth moments when WindowsXP decided to "discover" every piece of hardware I had, right down to the mouse, and again when core-center rebooted my computer.
Also, there was some time where my memory (OCZ 2-3-3-6 DDR3200) was being set to CAS2.5, which was kind of weird, but it fixed itself.
Unfort, I am unable to increase my FSB/HTT speed past about 205 before my computer does a reboot.
I have an ATI video card (X800 Plat Ed), and I'd read that some other people had issues with ATI card and the AGP-lock, so I got the CG-ICS950405 clock-gen, and it does state that my AGP is running at 66 (and PCI 33).
Going to bump up my settings via clockgen as soon as I post this (want to post before it potentially crashes).
Should I roll back to the 9.10 bios? Not a lot of discussion on the 9.2, and I'm wondering if it causes some issues.
Thanks again for all the help and info. I used to have a firm grasp on all the components of a system, way back in the P3 days, but things have changed quite a bit...
    **EDIT**
Seems to be a Core-Center issue. Used ClockGen to o/c to 2600, with temp nice and low. Will run like this for a bit. Does Core-Center work with a 9.X bios?
I think all my problems are solved - copied a wack of files to my SATA drives, and there were no issues. I won't trust Live Monitor again for drivers or bios - it's still stuck way back at 3.30.
I'll pass the info I've learned off whenever I can.
    Comments and criticisms welcome.
    David.
Quote from: Puppetman on 26-September-05, 23:23:42
I looked at the motherboard page - they recommend 3.30 unless you have having issues (which I kind of guess I am). Funny that Live Monitor won't pick up those BIOS changes - wonder what else I'm missing.
So 9.1 fixes the AGP/HTT overclocking issue?
The stickies are great - thanks.
    David.

  • P35 Neo 2 Fr - SATA drives not supported ?!?

I have just screwed together my new PC.
    Motherboard : MSI P35 Neo 2 FR
    CPU : Intel E6850
    Mem: 2GB DDR2 800
    Drives (2x): Seagate 250GB SATA
Windows: Vista Home Premium OEM (dutch)
It is a totaly clean install.
Problem is: When installing VISA it stops at the drive selection. It tells me (translate from Dutch): "the hardware of this computer possibly does not support the booting of this harddrive. Check that the drive controller is switched on in the BIOS"
When i'm in the bios (1.4) all seems well.
    What to do?
EDIT: stangely, Seagate says on its site that : Seagate hard drives do not require any special drivers for Microsoft Windows operating systems. The generic hard drive driver should support your hard drive. We recommend using the latest Windows Service Pack (SP) updates as these often refresh the Windows drivers
This makes is hard to do a (what i have been reading)"F6 Disc & install driver" solution. Or are there non-brand specific sata drivers.
    Help!

It was not my intention of installing the drives in Raid. I started out setting as AHCI.
Later on i tried setting as raid as MSI does have a driver for SATA Raid (on their site and on the supplied driver disc), unfortunately no success.
I think i must admit defeat. Tomorrow morning i will purchase a new IDE drive and install VISTA on this. I have the feeling it should then be easy to access the SATA drives.
Off topic (not really) : i downloaded the Seagate DiscWizard on my existing pc. This promises to solve all these kind of problems.  But it refused to start because it needed at least one Seagate product installed on my pc. Hahahaha, of course my old pc is fitted with WD drives. Not very useful from Seagate.
Off topic 2: roll over bios, we need EFI

  • Can I daisy chain IDE and SATA drives w/ FW400?

I have an 250GB IDE drive in ann ext enclosure with two Firewire 400 ports. Can I daisy chain a SATA drive to this or does it have to be another IDE drive?

If both are in their own Firewire case then yes. The FW interface converts whatever internal interface it is so the computer only sees it as a FW device.

    thanks

    davis5,
Download the latest nVidia nForce x64Drivers.
It has the SATA Drivers in it. If you need the Drivers for Install of the OS, just expand the Drivers and put the SATA & RAID Drivers on a floppy and you are set for the Install.

  • MSI K9N neo - black screen

    Hi everyone
I have a computer with a MSI K9N neo (v.1.0) motherboard. About a 1,5 years old. Until last week it was working fine, but after a hard disk crash (and replacement), i can't get it to boot properly. When i start it up, I can hear the fans and drive spinning, and i get a POST 'beep' (the usual short beep), but only a blank screen - monitor says No signal detected. I've replaced the graphics card with a brand new one, and it didn't help.
    Can anyone help me?

    Check monitor input selection 1|2
Check monitor cable and DVI->VGA converter if you use. Make sure that is filled well.
    Try with different monitor
    Thanks for the reply!
I've tried two monitors, two graphics cards and two PSU's - same result.
If I remove the graphics card and RAM and power up the computer, it does not beep at all, but when one of the memory modules (and/or the graphics card) are installed it beeps twice rapidly.. but the screen is blank no matter what I do..
