MSI 945p Neo3, which pci-e does it have?

Hi
I have a rather old MSI 945p Neo3 motherboard, and my graphics card just broke down. As my computer is old, and money is limited, I've decided to take the budget approach to buying a new graphics card, but I need to know if it will be compatible with my old motherboard. From what I understand, the 945p Neo3 uses a first generation PCI-E slot, and while PCI-E cards usually are backwards compatible, I've heard of people who have had problems with the very first generation of PCI-E (1.0a), while the slightly newer first generation PCI-E slots work (1.1). The card that I'm looking at is a ATI Radeon HD 5450 (which is the second cheapest card I can find at the moment). Does anyone know if this card will work on my aging computer?

The System Preferences >Security >Firewall is a incoming one and very user simple.
There is the full outgoing and incoming firewall via the Terminal
NoobProof and WaterRoof that can manage it with a GUI.
Mac's have a System Preferences > Security > General > Safe Downloads list which basically checks your downloads to make sure it's not a trojan.
That's about it for the malware checks built in, most all malware is for Windows and doesn't affect OS X, but if your passing or using Windows files, you may want to use the free ClamXav to scan them.
ClamXav is non-intrusive, other anti-malware for Mac's can be harmful as they run as root level and Apple changes things which breaks the anti-malware software and really causes more hassle than the 0 viruses Mac's get.
So most Mac users don't need to mess with the Firewall or anti-malware, best for them to leave it alone.
Though if one installs software from pirate or questionable sources then all bets are off.

  • Msi 655 max fisr ht ready: does it have fsb800 support?

i own msi 655 max fisr mobo, that supports ddr333 and fsb 533 as msi says. but it can handle also ddr 400 through overclocking and the bios has an option for fsb selection up to 250 mhz. according to me, this meens that one can use a cpu at fsb 800 by overclocking the mobo from the bios, even if it doesn't support the microcode of the cpu. does anyone have tested this statement, as at the time it is onlu speculation by me, as it is too expensive for my to buy new cpu and try it.
moreover, my revision of the mobo is stepping b0, thus it supports ht cpus and if it proves to support fsb 800 by overclocking, then i can keep it for a while, upgrading my system only with new cpu. i'll be thankful if anyone can provide me with some information on this topick.

What I am trying to explain is the downclocking of a DDR 400 RAM 1st to 333 Mhz then try to o/c to get DDR 400 or above, not saying that you are wrong.
Any board can support o/c'ing but it is all up to whether the hardwares that you have and their capability to do so as no one can actually determined whether or not the hardwares that you have will definately let you ends up the way it's really meant to be as there's always important facts being left out so it's always trial and error...
I have 2 of these systems running on the same mobo, but the highest I can reached with DDR 400 RAMs are just near DDR 400 not exactly 400 MHz and FSB are at near 170 quad = 170 x 4 = 680FSB... from a FSB 533 CPU. Both have different results as 1 is with DDR 333 RAMs o/c'ed to 380MHz on 2.8 B CPU and another with DDR 400MHz down to 333MHz then o/c'ed up to near 400Mhz on 2.8B CPU also...

    Hello Graogrim,
I just had a look at the product site and the user manual.  I found no indication of AHCI mode anywhere (ACPI and APIC yes, but AHCI, no).  Where exactly did you find that information?
Hey thanks for the reply. I found that information on this page on the MSI website. Here is the relevant section copy/pasted directly from that page:

Yes it's very similar to that picture. The plug that leads from the USB sockets is yellow, but other than that it appears the same.

  • Which PCI Interface do I have?

I have a G4 XServe that was originally bought in June of '03. We're looking at replacing it with a new Intel model, but I need to make sure my PCI cards will work.
I haven't been able to determine which interface these cards are using. I'm certain one is PCI-X, because it's an ATTO UL4S card. I also have an LSI 929 (that's how it shows up in System Profiler) fiber channel card in the other slot. From what I've been able to find, it seems that this is a PCI-X card also?
    Thanks!

The things that WON'T work are PCI Express cards.
Are you SURE about that? The OP is buying an Intel Xserve:

We do know that his G4 Xserve doesn't have any PCI Express cards, because the Xserve got PCI Express as of Intel Xserve.

    Hi,
i need to find out which phones doesnt have the keypad lag in my E52 as mentioned. I text a lot using T9 and this is really killing me.
Hope to know if is a S60v3 problem or its just the E52.

Never noticed a lag in any of my phones. I have also used an E52 and did not notice any lag. Could be due to the set up or applications installed on your phone or maybe I don;t type as fast as you.
Did you have this problems from the day you got the phone? If not then you could try resetting your phone to revert it back to the out of box state.

  • Which special requirements does QT have on windows?

    Hi,
I am a LiveCode developer on Windows. Playing QT videos, requires QT to be installed. LiveCode has a build in function to check if QT is installed. If QT is not installed I ask the user to install QT first. Usually this works without any problems. But from time to time I have a customer, where after the user has installed QT (yes, as admin, with anti virus off, deinstalled and reinstalled, etc.) my program crashes. This happens on all version from 32Bit XP to 64Bit Win7. It is a very seldom issue, but at these customers it is persistent at every start, so they can't use my program.
Obviosly on these computes any file / requirement for QT is missing / corrupted or any other software / driver causes the conflict. What I am looking for are the (windows) requirements for QT I could check for or I could tell my customers to check for? I don't mean the "official" requirements, but more under the hood. Somebody with a windows "K" version, he tried to reinstall the windows media player without success, but after installing the VLC player suddenly QT didn't crashed anymore and worked like a charm. So obviosly the VLC player installed anything, QT is relying on.
Any hints to look for? any experiences?
    Thanks
    Tiemo

    Hi,
yes QT is a diva on win7. It's much more complicated than reinstall it. At first I would try to set video to save (gdi mode) in the QT system preferences (extended tab). A wrong setting at this even let the browser crash during QT playback. Second I would check that the needed file extension for your program e.g. .mov is linked to QT. That's what VLC has done to the described win "k" system, not directly but it checks for proper media file linking during installation and repair it if needed. WMP and some other players grap the QT file formats e.g. .mov but can't play some of it because it's only a container and they haven't the appropriate codec to play the content.

  • How to make RAID1 of two 750GB HDDs with 945P NEO3-F

I have a PC with this MSI 945P NEO3-F MB and currently two new 750 GB Samsung SATA2 drives in it. The MB is some 18 months old but I just got the two HDDs today.
What I would like to do is set these two HDDs in RAID1 so that I wouldn't loose any data if one of the disks break.
Does this motherboard and it's BIOS support RAID? I thought I had verified that from the internet before I went to the computer store today, but now I'm not so sure anymore. Firstly I can't find any settings in BIOS for that and secondly I've been going through MSI pages again, and I cannot see any mention of RAID... I must have unintentionally looked at some other MBs data earlier today.
Well, if this MB and the BIOS do not support RAID, what can I do? What other hardware (or software) do I need to accomplish that.
    My set:
    MSI 945P NEO3-F
    Proc: Intel core 2 duo E6400 2.13 GHz/2MB
    RAM: 2 x 1GB DDRII 533 MHz
    HDDs: 2 x Samsung 750GB FI SATA2 3 (HD753LJ)
OSs: Currently only WinXP Home, but will install (and mainly use) Mandriva 2008.1 Linux
I would appreciate any suggestions; thanks.

The Intel ICH7 Southbridge, which is used on your board, does not support RAID.

  • Get a MSI P43 NEO3-F?

    Hello.
I am thinking of getting a $100 MSI P43 NEO3-F (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=P43_Neo3-F&class=mb ) since I am upgrading my current Windows XP Pro. SP3/gaming system (see http://alpha.zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/computers.txt for the full details) to a faster setup, and moving most of my old hardwares to my Debian/Linux box after Christmas 2008.
Currently, I am planning to get an Intel Core 2 CPU (dual 8xxx or quad Q8200 -- undecided at this time) with an Andy Sycthe Master 120mm CPU fan or something (don't like the loud fan noises when spinning high especially when my room is over 85F degrees during the heat waves and gaming!), ATI Radeon HD 4850/4870 video card, 2 GB of RAM (dual channel 800/667), two 7200 RPM SATA HDDs (one new and one old), a SATA DVD burner, etc. I still need IDE for my old DVD-ROM drive (like having dual DVD/CD drives especially when copying and being lazy), 3 PCI slots (old SB Audigy 2 ZS + 2 TV tuner cards), still use PS/2 mice and keyboards due to my old KVM box (USB types are too expensive), still need a serial port for my old USR Sportster 33.6k dial-up modem for emergencies, Windows XP Pro. SP3 (bah for Vista), etc.
I do not overclock my stuff. This upgrade is mainly for gaming. If I didn't game, then I would still be using my single core Athlon 64 system.
    Thank you in advance.

I believe that Seasonic isn't half bad. It's def. not a "recommended" PSU, but I believe you'll have a good chance it'll make it.
If you'd be OC-ing, I would recommend to get something else straight away. CPU OC + Graphics OC = quite a stong increase in required power.
But since you will not, I bet it'll be ok.
I had a old LC power 650W PSU, which is now also happily pulling a HD4850x2 + Intel E8500 (stock, ahh, what a waste), and that one had 20A, 18A, 2A 12V rails. However, Everest 4.6 reports that the 12V rail is doing 8,96V while gaming. (near failing that is) BIOS (idle reports 10,88) However do note that these are just indications, not emperical measurements you should trust.
And that said about the PSU - The P43 Neo boards are great value, especially if you don't want to OC, if don't want / need to go over 400Mhz FSB. RAID, Crossfire (8x/8x) and OCing are the only reasons to go with a P45 or X48.
Heh, I had the motherboard up since 12/27/2008 with the old SeaSonic PSU. It seems to work.

  • 945p neo3 Problem after live update bios

    Hi,
After I made the update trought live update, my computer doesn't start, I don't know what to do?
When I restarted it only shows the logo, if I hit DEL or TAB keys it shows to the start of the boot but it freezes.
I already clear the cmos, did anything that i had found on this forum, but nothing works.
I don't have the chance of doing anything because it won't gets the part to enter in bios.
It only appears in the screen thre lines:
    AMIBIOS 2005.....
    MSI 945PL Neo A7236IMS V1.9 Date: 08/07/06 08:05:52
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU               6400 @ 2.13 GHz , Speed:
    and nothing else appears.
One of the things that is very strange is if my board is a 945p neo3 why it happears 945 pl neo, did the live update flash my motherboard with a wrong bios version????
    is what it looks.
Any ideas to fix this, if there is a fix?
I don't see anything, because the motherboard don't even reaches the process of boot, so I can't try to flash a other version of bios because the process never reaches the time to boot from floppy, usb, disk..
    HELP PLEASE,
    Thanks in advance,
    Nuno

Nope they was 2 separate problems, solved with one hit.
"About I couln't start your application, whith the historial of your application and antivirus that I saw on the post about it, i got suspecious right away of my antivirus solution.
So to help, I uninstall and after that i could run it, I use Symantec Endpoint Proctection, is the corporate solution from symantec that is replacing the old one known as SAV - Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition. I didn't find any  message in the logs of it, but the fact is that if I have this solution installed I could not run USB tool, if I Uninstall I could run it."
Probably same resource conflict with your AV (some kind of system restriction) which cause Tool unable to proceed properly and terminating itself.
Can't duplicate your issue. I was using SAV - Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition(Up to date) till now and Tool perform well,
Just installed and updated Symantec Endpoint Protection (Updated to latest definition with all protection activated) and the Tool perform well as expected too.

  • MSI 945p Neo-2 V Hanging...help!

Hi, after an exhaustive search regarding the problem and one previous post topic about the same thing happening (with absolutely no resolution, I might add) I've decided to start a new post topic to see if anything can be done.
I have in my possession an MSI 945p Neo-2 V (MS 7176 ver. 2A1 written between PCI slots) connected to various other components, all of which appear in my signature.  When everything is connected and the power switch is pressed, the power turns on, the heatsink fan and computer fan both turn on and the hard drive clicks to life.  After that..nothing.  No bios, no "no os detected", nothing screaming at me that I done eff'd up.  At this point the diagnostic bracket sits on this:
    1. Red 2. Red
    4. Red 3. Green
which tells me it's hanging on the video initialization.  After RMAing the first board that did this to me and getting a completely new board and processor, the same thing happens.
I have tried the various steps suggested in the other topic: separate component testing, using only one memstick to get bios to post, sitting the mobo on a non-conductive surface and turning it on, checking front panel jumper connectors, but nothing seems to be working.  I swapped out every component with known working ones to no avail.  I swapped in every component to a working computer and separately they all work fine as well.  The people I'm making this computer for have been waiting about a month for the RMA to go through and everything and I'm about to lose both my mind and reputation here.  Can anyone help?
    EDIT:  Here's a link to the original topic I found - https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=94091.0

i suggest you to swap the graphic card first and see how it goes.
Prior to this incident did you OC your rig??
Alternatively try clearing cmos or jump start the psu using a screw driver
-Yes, I swapped out graphics cards, with a known working one.  Still no change.  I thought "broken pci-e x16 slot" but this is the second mobo of that type that's doing this, so either this particular type of mobo is crap or I'm getting shafted.
-No I never OC'd (wasn't going to try, either), since it never got past the video init, and therefore couldn't get to the bios.
-Cleared the cmos (the JBAT1 jumper I believe) and still no change.
-And I really don't trust myself with a screwdriver and electricity.
-Finally, no, I didn't update the bios.  This happened out-of-box.
