MSI 970a-g43 CPU fan always at 100% when fast boot or MSI Fast Boot is enabled

I turned on fast boot in my motherboard in my BIOS but now whenever I boot into windows the CPU fan is always at 100%. I really like the performance gain from fast boot, however I can't stand the CPU fan always at 100%. The fan normally runs at ~1150rpm when its off but when its on it runs full blast ~2800rpm.
My specs are:
MSI 970a-g43
AMD FX 6300
MSI HD 7870 OC Edition (Flashed with GOP vBios)
2x4 8gb DDR3 g.skillz ram

I have it set to 55c smart fan control in the BIOS. With fast-boot off it works perfectly. It seems like its not lowering the fan like it normally does when its on. If I go into the BIOS and reset it it'll work fine the first time, but after that it'll do the 100% fan speed all the time.

    hey guys
i am new to this forum and have a strange issue with my card. i received my new card from Scan on Saturday (15/03/2014) and followed all the correct installation steps to upgrade from my previous card, however ever since install the cooler has both fans at 3000rpm (100%) !!!
the card is showing on CCC and MSI AB as running the fans at 18% but next to it 3000rpm...i really do not want to go through RMA and i'm hoping there is possibly a common solution i can get from you all...specs listed below:
    CPU - HexaCore AMD FX-6300, 3818 MHz (19 x 201)
    MOBO - Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P  (AMD 970, AMD K15)

What drivers and AB version you have?
The fans are really spinning that fast or this is only wrong read out?
    Thanks for the reply...
Catalyst 13.12 (also tried the ones that came with the card)
Latest MSI AB version from their site...
The fans are running full pelt, trust me it isn't a readout issue in terms of the RPM speed being 3k. Straight from power on they're running at that speed and don't change regardless of  load... Temps are great on another note haha.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks :-)

  • Freezing issues with MSI 970A-G43 and AMD FX 8320

    Hey all,
I bought my brother a new system a few days ago, but he has had serious issues with the machine crashing ever since.
The machine has had a fresh installation of Windows 7, it has all the latest drivers for both motherboard, sound, chipset and video card (Latest VGA driver tested as well as the latest Beta version)
I thought the problem might be with the VGA card, as the computer would just shut off during 3d Gaming, but it also seems to happen when surfing the internet or doing normal "2d" activities
What happens is the computer will just seemingly shut off, the LED lights on the front of the case, around the dials, start blinking and the only way to get it back up again, is to turn if off at the power supply unit and then turn it back on again.
I'll paste in what my brother sent me (As I live in the UK and can't see the machine crashing myself), he said:
I dunno what the issue is but, last night the comp just shut off in middle of game play on 3 different games, and the lights were flashing, I had to turn complete power off to the power box and back on to restart comp, I kept checking all my temps with speccy and speed fan and nothing seemed high at all, also when it shuts off and I re start it, a lot of my desktop icons move around to different spots,
Update: crashed a few times on me, once playing euro, once just browsing Internet 5 min after the first one, changed out ram just for shots and giggles and ran euro on ultra for about 5 min and crashed. I dl a gpu monitor gadget, was accurate on temp but said the gpu was 0% but with just Internet would randomly jump to 99% or 40% then back to 0 and would stay and eventually crash
    Spec is:
    AMD FX-8320 3.5GHZ EIGHT CORE
    500GB SATA III 6GB/S 7200RPM 16MB
    COOLERMASTER SEIDON 120M WATER COOLER
    4Gb DDR3 / 1600 MHZ MEMORY
    MSI 970A-G43 AMD 970 CROSSFIRE AM3+ DDR3 USB 3.0 SATA
    CORSAIR 500 WATTS CX500 V2 80 PLUS POWER SUPPLY
ASUS XONAR DG 5.1 CHANNELS PCI XONAR DG SOUND CARD
    AMD RADEON 7750 2GB PCI-E
There was a concern I did have when I did search earlier, via a thread on Tomshardware in which a similiar board had issues with the FX8350's wattage going above the stated 125 watts and causing the board to freeze.
It's a different board/chip, but I wonder if the wattage of the CPU goes above 125W and causes problems on the board? Hmm
I feel really guilty right now, because I bought this for him as a present, it was $700ish plus shipping etc and it's been nothing but problems ever since.
I'm going to see what version of Bios he's running when he gets out of bed, but the Live Update software said there were no updates, but I'll have him check manually.
Another issue I noted, was I sent him some ram before the PC arrived, which was:
    XMS3 — 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1333C9)
He originally put that ram in with the existing 4gb of ram, so I thought it "Might" be a conflict, due to them having a different Mhz value
So I had him remove the 4gb stick that came with the PC
As soon as he entered the bios, it froze and did so twice
So he removed that ram and put back the original 4gb stick and the bios worked
No idea if the two are related.

I hope this doesn't count as necro-ing a thread (last post was in October), but it's the one closest to my situation.
    I have the following setup:
    MSI 970a-g43 motherboard
    AMD FX-6300 cpu
ATI Radeon HD 4550 graphics card
    4x 2GB RAM sticks
    2x 500 GB 3.5" SATA hard drives
    CoolMax 700W psu
    16x r/rw DVD burner
cheapo SD and others card reader that fits in the floppy drive bay
Older PC tower that has a temperature sensor built into it
I built it around November 15th, and it worked until a couple days ago (December 12th I think), when it started doing the sudden shut-off thing. Same as Adresch described: shuts off, tower light blinks, have to flip the i/o switch off and back on to boot again. I consulted a friend for some suggestions, and he said I should put a water cooler in there, because the stock heatsink that comes with most processors are junk. So I went out and bought a Corsair H55 water cooler and installed that.
The computer seemed to run for a bit longer before shutting off. I loaded up the BIOS software, SpeedFan, and HWMonitor. SF said the CPU was running average of 48*C, and GPU was averaging 51*C. The CPU's highest was at 61*C and its lowest was 36*C. BIOS software said CPU was at 35*C the whole time. HWMonitor listed the GPU at 51*C, and the CPU at 7*C. These are all very inconsistent with each other as far as I can tell, so I don't know what to make of these readings. Didn't seem to much matter as the computer continued shutting off.
My options then being replacing the PSU or the motherboard, I decided to replace the power supply, since I was just within the 30 days. Switched for a ThermalTake TR2 700W. Before installing it, I pulled the tower's CPU temperature sensor wire from between the water cooler heatsink and the CPU, just in case. Then I installed the PSU, checked and rechecked all of the connections, and turned it on.
    Nothing.
I then spent the next two hours rechecking everything, even unplugging everything and putting it back together. Still nothing. The best I could get was a flicker of the tower light and the fans doing a quarter turn before ceasing movement. The red LED on the front of the SD card reader stayed on the entire time, though, so I guess it was getting at least a trickle of power. I also removed everything but the PSU, motherboard, CPU, and one stick of RAM. Still no power. I think the new PSU may have been open box, so I'm returning it today for a different one, and even bumping it up to 850W.
I'm not sure that will solve my original issue though, so I'll be looking for a heatsink to put on the VRMS as mentioned. Just thought I'd get this down in a relevant thread in case anyone had other thoughts on what could be going on.

  • Live update5, BIOS update MSI 970A-G43

    Hi, best regards
I have MB MSI 970A-G43 and current BIOS version is 10.0
I have installed Liveupdate5 and scan for BIOS, and the program said that my Mobo have the latest BIOS.
On the official site there are v10.1 and v10.2
How to flash, update BIOS securely?
    Thanks in advance...

    Never flash using Live update.
Download the latest bios (>>10.2<<) manually and >>use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< to flash.

  • MSI P67A-GD65 CPU fan at 100%

Just wrapped up my install on this board and I have an issue with my aftermarket CPU cooler (Cooler Master V6 GT).  The V6GT has 2 fans that connect together into a single, 4 pin connector that goes to the CPU fan slot on the motherboard.  Normally (I've used this fan on 2 previous builds) the fans speed is dynamically controlled and is idled up and down so it's not loud.  On my new MSI board, the fan is stuck at 100% speed.  I can use the MSI Control center to set it at 75 or 50% and it's much better but I assume there's something I've got set wrong that's causing this issue.  Is there a setting in the bios that will enable the fan speeds to dynamically adjust depending on the load/temp of the cpu?

Have a peak in BIOS H/W Monitor. The control settings should be in there. Not all headers may be controllable.

  • CPU Fan always ramps up to 100%

I rebuild my PC with a new Mobo MSI Z77 Mpower. I have build over 100 PCs. I know how to set the bios and change the CPU speed etc. The CPU fan goes 1005 and only allows me to set the degree temp. Waht temperature is a good one to set to get about 50% CPU fan speed. Amy I missing the CPU fan speed setting if, so please point me in the right direction.
I know about Control Center and this works once the PC is booted up, but having to change this every time I boot is getting frustrating.
I am no doubt overlooking something. Thanks for your help.

Does your fan control look similar to this ?
If so, try the settings that I am using. It most certainly works for my PWM fan control.

  • MSI P67A-G43 b3 Fan Control ?

    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-G43--B3-.html#/?div=Detail
    my board has - CPU x 1 / System x 4 FAN connectors
I have a CPU fan and 3 system fans connected. CPU fan is plugged into the CPU fan I/O
the 3 system, fans are plugged into #1, #2 and #3 fan ports.
so here is my dilemma. For some reason only my CPU fan and fan 1 and fan 2 or recognized. I can adjust their fan speed as i need to with no problems.
But anything i plug into port #3 or #4 is not recognized for fan control. I have swapped out which fans are plugged into all 4 system fan ports but they dont show up as even being installed when i plug them into #3 or #4. any fan i plug into the 1 or 2 spot is seen and can have speed adjusted.
Anyone know what may be causing this?

There is no monitoring or control for those fan headers, its just a power header. Most MBs only allow control for CPU and Sys #1 and # 2 at most.
If you wish to control more fans, you will need an aftermarket fan controller.

  • GTX 980 GAMING 4G.. second fan always at 100%

So, I just bought this craphic card and all excited put it in, all connected and pushed the button.. suddently, ALL THIS NOISE.. I immediatelly checked the card and saw that one fan is not spinning at all (because it is designed like that from what I understood..) but second fan (closer to power connectors) is spinning always at 100%...
I tried their fan control app from attached disc, it reports one fan at 0% and second at 1%.. this is completely outrageous
This is the graphic card information.. what to do now ? It stays like that even after reboot.

OMG, another 980 user with this problem.
Really hope my 980 will not be the same.
Still not in stock here, but will be soon. Really hope MSI didnt screwed all 980 gaming cards.....
Because when i buy this 980 gaming, and if it will have the problem, i really dont know with what to replace it, if i will RMA the card.
Gigabyte has awful GPU 980 design. Thinking about an Zotac Omega edition.....but i hope this doesnt come to that...

  • MSI K9N2 Diamond CPU FAN SPEED

It is not much of a problem, but, recently I changed my msi k9n platinum with k9n2 diamond and, of course, I transfered the old hardware to the new mainboard.
My CPU is x2 64 athlon 6000+ and my fan is Cooler Master Susurro (http://www.overclockersonline.net/?page=articles&num=354). On my platinum board my fan
acted quietly, around 1000-1100 rpms and the cpu temp. around 42-44 degrees celsius. As I changed the mainboard the cpu temp. fell on 34-36 BUT the cpu fan
is now cooling faster, around 1400-1600 rpms. I don't mind my cpu 8 degrees hotter and a better sleep at night :D. I've tried latest drivers, cool&quiet drivers, bios
cool&quiet, smart fan target.. nothing helps. It is the same. I run windows XP SP2. Updated to the last released bios. Tied speedfan, but it doesn't support that
mainboard. And my fan is now too loud, can someone help me

When changing motherboard you need to do at least a repair installation of Windows. Can't really be avoided.
That would mean you reinstall motherboard drivers. Maybe things work better this time.
You set Cooln'quiet to minimal savings, if I'm not mistaken.
Your Susurro got a few years. Are you sure it is up to the job? The test you link to was with a Socket 939 processor, at about half to 2/3 the power and heat output to the one you got.
Oh, and please mention your PSU, too.

  • MSI H81M-P33 Cpu Fan Speed Problem! Urgent

Hi. Bought a H81M-P33 board and got a problem.
I can´t increase my CPU fan Speed to maxium RPM . Tried to use Command Center and Board Bios without any sucess.
This leads to my cpu (i5 4670) getting hot with stock cooler. When I´m encoding a video it reaches 85º. The best solution I had was to connect CPU Fan to Chassis Fan slot on the motherboard and it increased speed, but still it doesn´t increase past a certain value.
What can I do to solve this problem? Tried everything without any luck. The board doesn´t handle CPU fan speed + temperatura increase well. Is not normal to have a CPU stock volts getting hot.
    Thanks

I know that for sure XFM. The thing is that the board isn´t increasing CPU fan speed as it should. Ofc a better cooler would do the job, but even with stock cooler it can be cooler. The problem is that the fan is always in slow mode :|

  • Eclipse SLI CPU fan always on max

Hello i got a problem with my Eclipse SLI. It's look like the CPU smart fan function don't work and the CPU fan is on max all the time.
    My bios temp's goes from 32-40 C. I have used a lot of different bios versions. 1.4 - 1.7 - 1.9 - 1.a none of those could fix it.
    Eclipse SLI
    Intel i7 920 - standard clock
hope anyone got a good answer to my question. thx

Hello i got a problem with my Eclipse SLI. It's look like the CPU smart fan function don't work and the CPU fan is on max all the time.
They have a switch for "always maximum cooling" and "temperature controlled speed". Check your CPU fan - it may help to read the CPU installation instructions as they show where the switch is. I would guess that you have it in the wrong position, so your BIOS can't do anything...

  • MSI 790GX-G65 CPU fan was going into 'overdrive' by itself, now it won't

I don't use automatic fan speed on my machine, I have it set to 100% all the time, which is ~3500 RPM.
However, recently I was playing Entropia, and my CPU fan started going even faster, about ~5400 RPM.
This was good, because it gave better cooling, but today, It's running even hotter than it was then and it's only ~3500 RPM again.
Does anyone know what caused my CPU fan to go into 'overdrive' and how I can do that again? I would like to get my CPU as cool as possible.

    What is the CPU temperature?
Idling currently at 36 degrees but when playing Entropia it goes up to 55 normally. I am using the stock heatsink which I think is too damn small.
Today it was up to 61 degrees, the fan did not go faster, which is what it did last time and it kept at 55 and below.
Quote from: Fredrik on 10-December-10, 10:02:56
There is no other program controlling the fan speed, too? Like CoreCenter or similar.
For safety, I would also have a look inside the case.
I have speedfan for speed and temperature readout, but it doesn't control the speed. (set to 100% default)
What am I looking for in the case?

  • MSI K7T266 Pro2 cpu fan doesn't start

    Hello!
I have the mainboard MSI K7T266 Pro2, I have just upgraded my bios to version 3.7. When I start my computer, it stops and beeps to warn me that the cpu fan is'nt running, but when I open the computer to see If the cpu fan is running it does start, so why does is say that the fan doesn't star when it acctually does start?

No....!! There is nothing bad mounted.
The reason for this post of you PC, is that the cooler isn't running fast enough for the BIOS, so your BIOS just wantst to warn you. The easiest way to get rid of it, is to disable the "CPU Fan Detection" in the BIOS, or connect the fan to another plug. That's all there is to it!

  • MSI B75A-G43 runs fans at full speed for 1-2 seconds after powering on the PC

    Hello fellow MSI owners,
I have a MSI B75A-G43 board and i was really curious why does the fans run at full speed for 1-2 seconds when the PC gets powered on and then gradually quiet down to normal speed. Other than this, the board works great. I have had only boards from Gigabyte previously and they do not exhibit this behavior, is this a MSI thing ?
    Thanks,
    Alex

Thanks for the answers fellas !
Indeed it looks like normal operation on the MSI boards ( may differ on the latest Bios versions maybe). PWM control probably works differently on the Gigabyte ones

  • MSI-Z77A-GD55 CPU Fans

    Hello all, new poster
Installed my mobo today, no problems par from one. My CPU fans are running at max (2000ish RPM) which is rather loud as you could imagine. Is there any way to ramp them down but maintain a good temperature (obviously)?
I have the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus cpu cooler.

of corse it needs a 4th pin! cpu fan headers are PWM so they run by square wave ouputs, the 4 lines are (intel fan header) pin: 1 - ground (black cable), 2 - +12V(DC) (yellow cable) , 3 - sensor (green cable) , 4 - control (blue cable)! (AMD fan header pin: 1 - ground (black cable), 2 - +12V(DC) (red cable) , 3 - sensor (yellow cable) , 4 - control (blue cable))
a 3pin fan header will run at full speed all the time as it has no control line pin 4(blue cable) that varys the speed of the fan hense it runs at maximum voltage all the time! 3 pin headers have only the ground - +12V(DC) - sensor with no control line!
But the sys fan one can be controlled though even with just 3 pin. I don't think that because it's 3 pin makes it uncontrollable. From my system i do learn that if 3 pin fan is used on 4 pin connector, no control will be given. But it's a different matter on 3 pin connector.
