MSI 975x Platinium PowerUp Edition - SATA2

Hey guys, I have a 250GB sata2 HDD..When I try to connect the HDD to the first 4 sata ports (violet ones), the bios read them as : IDE not SATA...Therefore im using the Jmicron port till now..
Any answers for that?and is good that way or I have to do something?
Thanks a lot...

That's why I said 'upto' as that is suppose to be the industrial standard. But if you Intel RAID two drives you will surpass that. I have a SATA II 80GB and SATA I 250GB in a RAID 0, giving me 152GB of space and  getting 320 mb/s burst speed.
You will find my benchmarking for all modes SATA, AHCI and RAID on this post and make up your own mind which is the best.

  • A few questions about Memory and Power Supply for MSI 975X Platinum Powerup Edit

Bought this Motherboard: MSI 975X Platinum Powerup Edition
    975X Platinum V.2(7246-020)
    I have a P4 CPU HT in it with 2 512mb sticks of DDR2 memory (533mhz).
I am upgrading to a Core 2 Duo 6600 CPU which has a 1066mhz FSB
What memory speed should I purchase to achieve the fastest bus speed without overclocking???
I get confused as my current memory is 533 which I guess on a Pentium 4 with HT cuts the FSB speed in 1/2 to 266mhz.
    Any recommendations?
Do I need to buy Dual Channel or can I just buy 2 sticks?
    Thank you
    Peter

    Great info again guys!
I'll stay away from OCZ (I read it's more for overclockers).
    @DryHeat:
I watched your sig, great setup! I'm planning for about the same setup (MSI 975x PUE, P180, C2D, ...). But will try a Scythe Ninja for CPU cooler and use an MSI graphic card (maybe 2 cards for 4 monitors in total).
Is your setup silent or just quiet? Makes a big difference for me.
What would you change now? And what is the most noisy component?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm not an expert and by budget does not permit me from making any mistakes.
The case fans create the most noise.  When they are all on "low" I an hardly hear them and have to shake the mouse to see if it's on, but on medium it sounds like a "standard" computer.  Not terrible, but not quite.  On high they are down-right loud.

  • MSI 975X Power Up Edition V2.1 Issue Beside Overclocking After Flash New Bios

    Hi all,
I hope I can get a lot of help here. I'm having a few issues with this board. I cannot find any thread that discuss other issue beside overclocking after you flash a new bios. Here are my problem:
    1.  I installed fresh WindowsXP with SP2. Windows cannot detect new usb device eventhough WindowsXP recognized the usb controller. If I plugin any usb device, windows does not detect a new device. I try to stick a USB flash and I can see the light for a few seconds but Windows cannot detect it. Before I upgrade the bios to version 715 (beta), I used usb flash to upgraded it. Now, the bios is not even boot from usb flash.
    2. Other things that concern me, the southbridge chipset is really really hot. If you touch it long enough, it will burn you.
    3. I cannot figure it out the front audio from manual book (JAUD1). Is any of you know where the mic needs to go?
    Thanks

I removed the Big Typhoon from the MB and I replace with stock fan.  I want to make sure the back plate from Big Typhoon doesn't cause any problem.  When I bootup the windows, I saw WindowsXP recognized the USB device but it disappeared again. I took the MB out from the case and test it without a case. It stills does not recognize the usb. Somebody mention bad PSU(Power Supply Unit) may cause a lot wierd problem. I changed PSU from RaidMax Vocalno 630W to Ultra X-Finity 500W. I don't have a lot of stuff that require power. Do you think the PSU cause this issue?

  • Vista Sleep Issues - 975X Pentium Powerup Edition

    Hi
Hopefully someone can help me out with this one. I've got a 975X Pentium Powerup Edition running Bios 7.4.
I have a continual strange problem with Vista 32 bit entering sleep mode. It will enter sleep the first time and successfully start again but on the second time it freezes whilst entering sleep with the two blue lights staying on on the front panel. Then nothing will clear it except unplugging from the power socket which isn't great!
I've updated the graphics and sound drivers but these have made no difference. Is is possible it is to do with the Bios and is is worth me flashing it to the latest 7.8 version? If so how do I so that with Vista as the instructions on the MSI site don't seem to cover it.
I have checked the Bios setting and it is set to support S3 sleep.
    Help appreciated as I'm stuck!
If its not the bios does anyone have any other ideas?
    Thanks
    Jim

    Hello everybody!
I was wondering how strong/heavy powersupply i need to get my system stable and running smootly when i use an Msi 975x platinum pu edition & Gainward 7950gx2??
Every reply will be greeted much appreciation!

Depends on what else you are putting in your system. hard drives, optical drives, sound, etc.? A good 550-650 watt PS should do pretty good. I am partial to Antec power supplies myself but there are many other good manufactures out there and also some bad ones.

Happy users stay to help the unhappy users, and sharing experiences and valuable information. However, most if not all users don't make BIOS changes, modifying BIOS etc This is still mainly MSI's job.
The moderators have MSI contact where we can get faster response and more direct support. We do channel issues over here which we think is a true MSI issue. But 90% of the issue here are mainly user-setup problem. So we need to filter them out.
So, is this issue a MSI issue or a user-setup problem?

tried the card in an other sytem works fine
also installed the latest firmware on the arc-1220 card
anyone have an idea which bios i should try

can you see the card in windows if you boot off the on-board controller?
I know Intel boards are picky with RAID controller cards.  If the Intel RAID is enabled then a lot of add-on cards won't work.  Also, even with Intel RAID disabled some still won't work.  I had to flash my SiI 3132 RAID card to non-RAID for it to work as a boot device.
I've had my system not even post at all when both RAIDS are enabled.  But if I get a post and it boots from the Intel side, it always sees the add-on RAID card.
Also, do you have the latest BIOS?  Hopefully that will fix the issue.
Myself, I have the ARC-1210 controller and have NOT had any issues on my 975, 965, P35, or X38 boards.  However, only the X38 board has allowed my card to run at full speed.  The other chipsets run the 2nd PCIe X16 slot at only X4.  It seems it's too slow for the controller to work properly, or there is some issues still.  But my X38 boards run great.  I get over 300MB/s with my 4 x 150MB Raptors in RAID0.
    Good luck

  • MSI 975x Power Up Edition + OCZ Problem

    Hello all,
Don't know if this is a common problem because I found some informaton about it yet I found no solution...
    I got 2x2GB OCZ Reaper X memory:
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-105-OC
    And
I have the following motherboard marketed as supporting 800mhz 2gb sticks and up to 8gb:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=267
The problem is I was working with 512mb*2 corsair memory and decided to give a bit of an upgrade so i got that memory. And the motherboard won't post, it stays on for a few seconds and just turns off and on again.
I can't figure out the solution I tried putting voltage as high as 2.4 and manually inserting latency.
I really don't know what to do and I would really like to make them work.
    please help!

Quote from: ivybat on 01-August-08, 04:37:23
I don't know how much digging you've done, but when the 975x Plat PUE boards just came out, it was a huge deal how notoriously incompatible OCZ was with MSI just on that board. I had some OCZ Platinum XTC sticks (rev1 RMAd to rev 2), and nothing worked with them.
Which explains why your Corsair RAM was working fine..
Yes, with my first set of OCZ 800 Gold, my 975x don't even post, and with the second 667 set I had a FSB wall of 320 mhz. Try Corsair or G.Skill memory, this memory works very well with the 975x.

  • MSI 975X platinum powerup question

    Hi,
I've got a 975X powerup motherboard with a 7600GT graphics card in the primary 16x slot. (Its a 16x graphics card)
The graphics card has a big fan on it which covers one of my 1x slots and the other one is in use.
I'd like to use the other 16x slot for a USB 3.0 PCI-express card. (a 1x card). Is it possible ?
I know the secondary slot's main purpose is for Crossfire, but can the secondary slot be used for other PCI-Express cards ?
I want to be sure. I don't want to blow anything on my board.
    Thanks

    Quote
I just wondered if the secondary slot is only for a second graphics card. The motherboard manual is not very clear.
No, as far as I know it is not limited to video cards. Appart from the age difference between board/chipset and USB controller, a further question remains regarding the lane assignment.  With only one PCI-E x16 card installed, the primary PCI-E slot will get x16 lanes and the secondary PCI-E x16 slot x0 [x16/x0] lanes. If there would be a second video card installed, the chipset's PCI-E switching logic will switch to bifurcation mode, re-assigning x8 of the formerly x16 lanes of the first slot to the secondary slot [x8/x8]. A x15/x1 mode is not possible.  So, the question is, whether or not the PCI-E switching logic allows x1 lanes on the secondary slot [letting x7 lanes left unused].
I just had a look at the Intel datasheet for the 975X chipset [the chapter on PCI Express functionally]. I have to admit, that I only skipped through and did not really read it thouroughfully.  But from what I can tell, there is no definate restriction regarding the bifurcation logic of the PCI Express controller.  However, if you have the time, take a look yourself:
    http://www.intel.com/assets/pdf/datasheet/310158.pdf
Start reading on page 223 and then onward.  The functionally of the PCI Express switching logic is covered here. To be honest, Intel does not seem very clear on the matter either.  Looking at the introductory paragraph on page 21, the title is "PCI Express* Graphics Interface" and not simply "PCI Express* Interface".  In addition to that it says "Bifurcated PCI Express* Graphics Supported Features" instead of "Bifurcated PCI Express* Graphics Supported Features" on the same page.
So, again, I guess the only thing that makes sense suggesting is to simply give it a try and see how it goes.

  • Need help configuring MSI 975C Platinum Powerup Edition MB

Got this motherboard to replace an older MSI MB. Intent is to use with my existing P4 3ghz LGA 775 CPU (with HT) and eventually swap out to a Core Duo processor.
    A few questions:
    1. If I get a Core 2 Duo Processor can I use existing heat sink that has a fan on it and is a plug in unit via 4 plastic spacers -OR- should I get something more substantial?
Currently I do not have a Crossfire Graphics card and do not intend to get on. May upgrade my NVIDIA card from 6800 to a higher number.
    2. My SATA drive shows up as a Third Master with the CD ROM and other things being the primaries. I have the drive plugged into SATA 1 and it is the only drive. No RAID configuration.
    3. Bus speed default says 200 in BIOS. Should I change that? I tried along with a few other things and system rebooted.
    4. I have 2 512mb sticks of 533mhz DDR 2 memory. Could not get system to boot with them in slots 1 and 3 with 2 and 4 empty. Had to put them both in either Orange or Green slots.
    5. Anything else I should try to tweak right now?
Thank you so much. Not into much game playing at moment but may in future. Not much into overclocking but if I could up the 3ghz P4 chip then I would try....
    Newbie Thanks
    Peter

    1. Do you mean the heatsink for CPU? You can use the existing CPU cooler for P4 3Ghz for Core Duo. No issue.
--- I'm not sure why you blend this with the crossfire graphicxs card.. ??
    2. same answer to Novjoe''s
    3. That's correct.
    4. Try with single stick, up a bit DDR voltage, and retry.
    5. Just the RAM, get it working in dual channel if they are identical.

Beta is beta, we will never have any suport fram any company for a beta program/bios.
And everybody who have seen the Asus nforce4sli32 for Intel, knows
bad flash can hapend. Been there my self. 50% of thos boards flashed to dead.
But in that case, i talked to my delivery shop, and they agred that i had so match trubel
with it, so i had to try flashing. Went dead.. Sent it back, and got my selv a new Board.
I would say, if you don't like the no spuport/beta stuff. Wait for the oficial Release.
And the ever saying rule, If it is'n broken don't try fixing it (something like that).
So if it is ok, don't flash with Beta bios. And if there is no good thing on the
fixed list for the oficial don't flash that eather.
Just my 2 cent on this topic...
I agree with you MrNielsen, dont flash if you dont need to!
But I'm suffering from various problems (everyone has some issue with this mobo) and whilst I accept that it is not supported and may even stop my mobo from booting, I dont care cos I can always get a new BIOS chip. and I dont care about support from MSI for a BETA unless of course it applies to the official BIOS release as well.
What I do want (and I think everyone except Maesus agrees with me on) is a change log of the BETA BIOSes... but alas  it doesn't look like it's gonna happen!
