MSI 975x Powerup Edition and ocz2p800r22gk won't boot problem

Hi Everyone,
I just recently purchased the MSI 975x Powerup Edition v2.1 mb with an e6600 and when I put in the ocz ram the system won't boot the fans startup for a couple of seconds then the system shuts down and then it starts up again. I have been reading the posts and I have updated the bios to 7.1 I also made sure the boot block was written so the whole bios was updated but it just won't boot with this ram. The only way I can make the system boot is with my old Kingmax ddr2 553 ram from my old system. The ram does work in the old system just not the new one.
Other than getting the new ram to work the system has been fine. I know some people are using ocz with the board if you can tell me how you got it to work it would be greatly appreciated.
Take care,
Bob

The problem is 100% the OCZ ram.  I had a gigabyte DQ6 motherboard along with an E6600 and OCZ Platinum ram.  It did exactly the same as you describe with the MSI board.  The only way I got it to boot was to buy some cheap DDR2-533 ram to get it to post and then up the voltage on the ram and change the memory settings.  The problem was that when put into dual channel mode or single channel and put under stress (virus scan, play music and compress a file) the system would crash.
Inevitably I returned the motherboard and the memory and got the MSI 975X with Corsair C5 memory.  I am now running stably with no issues.
I'm afraid OCZ has big time compatability issues.  They even stated that they can't check compatability with most motherboards on their support forum.  I would stick with the real big boys of memory being Corsair and Crucial.

As subject says, BIOS ver. 7.40, board rev.2.1, CPU works on other boards up to high 3GHz+ and on this one not even a megahertz over standard 200...
Memory is not a subject, A-DATA Extreme, known to work up to 1GHz, cooling by TT Big Typhoon an PSU by Antec, case CM Wave Master...
No matter what I do, I can't OC the CPU!
    Any clues?
    Wait for BIOS release?
Or grab the hammer and smash the thing apart...

Guys, thanks a lot for your effort...
    Now, where I am now!
7.1B6 works for me only a day, then suddenly rebooting machine caused full stop...no move, no sign of being alive! Hard reset few times kicks in, but not as for the first few hours.
Flashed v7.4B3 which recognized my CPU, thank god and locks me back in the 200MHz FSB range... so all this for nothing!
I did manage somehow to raise to 225MHz, but that's it!
That device is still there unrecognized and still poking my eye out. No Realtek (1.61 by the way) solved UAA HD device, not this one. That is some mystery! I played with BIOS, turning on and off, that's where I come across reboot problem, but no avail!
As I am IT pro, I know you are amazed where all this comes from me, and also need to run WinXP X64, I did believe however that I will go across mapping issues, hope you got some experience. At the moment I am still on W32 partition and still fighting my fight with that nasty board!
I did used AMD systems in the past and I know that timings are all about that platform, but also Intel required decent timings otherwise you experience that wool effect on your desktop alone!
Using Ryan VM prepared copy of WinXP, which worked flawlessly anywhere, using all my knowledge I am close to give up. Nice looking board but that's where everything stops!
When I mentioned that magic speed of 333MHz, I am talking about my b/f machine where only difference seems to be motherboard, and he opted for Gigabyte 965P DS3P, and as you know, this one doesn't come with another 8X PCIE which I will need. Also there's no active cooling on anything, and there same, very same CPU I got worked at 400*9, with very same RAM without a hiccup!!!! For about a month and a half! No reboot prob, no prob recognizing CPU, no unknown devices and so...
I know solution would be to get rid of this board ASAP, but then I should turn to new set of problems however and probably new set of friends across the globe! All the drivers are reinstalled gazillion times, and being a new driver freak, yes I do used all the latest!
What a tough nut! I believe if MSI read this sooner or latter they will point out that even Intel on their own motherboard support overclocking as this is part of their global plan widespreading their technology. You must know that only OC helped AMD raise, and now very same story work for Intel as well!
    Guys, help me!

  • MSI 975x Powerup edition and ram question

I am thinking on upgrading my ram on the board mentioned above I have 2GB or corsair which works fine anyone here know if I add another 2GB does it need to be corsair or could I use something like kingston or kingmax or whatever? Or does it need to be the exact same corsair ram. In the past this wasn't an issue but this board is extremely fussy.
I am wondering if it would affect dual channel operation. The corsair ram is about 100 dollars more for 2GB not a big deal I just don't feel like driving to another city to get it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Take care,
    Bob

you should get all 4 sticks the SAME model name. If you get different sets of pairs, it's more likely they will run into issue. However, in most case, they still can run just good enough. But if you're going into overclocking, you will hit the bottleneck easier compared to 4 same sticks.

  • Core2Quad Q6600 on MSI 975X PowerUp Edition problem

Hello. I have a problem that is bugging me for about one month.
I have this configuration with an Intel Core2Quad Q6600 on a MSI 975X PowerUp Edition mainboard, with 4G Ram memory from Kingmax (4x1G DDRII 800 MHz) <The mainboard has the latest bios version 7.7>. I am running on Windows Vista x64 OS and I always get a blue screen after a nonequal period of time. I have remarked that usually it happens when running a media file (e.g. movie, DVD, play mp3) and downloading something from the internet. If I only do one type of operation at a time nothing happens, but if I do both types in the same time... in crashes. I can't figure out what may be the problem I've ran 32 memtests (one with v1.70 and one with v3.4) on each memory on each slot (4 memories x 4 slots) and got no errors. Of course than I ran one single test with both versions of memtest with the full 4G installed and got a lot of errors only on test 8 of them (regardless of the relevancy of 4G on a memtest that is on 32bit).
I also gave a memory test from the Windows Vista x64 DVD and the system hangs at 37% for hours. I checked the HDD and has no problem.... Now I don't know what else to test anymore in order to see what may be the problem. Is it somehow a problem from the processor?, any incompatibility in the system?
I saw that when making the regular updates for windows, on one particular update the system crashes giving me the same BSOD that bugs me (note thet the system does this problem imediatly after a clean install with no updates, and after the updates are installed)
I've installed windows about 5 or 6 times on this configuration. Not once crashed or hanged during installation and in windows... in applications, never hanges or crashes into the same applications... they work just fine... only when I am using some media and downloading.... it happens at a total random time between a few minutes and even one hour. Sometimes if I am lucky I watch an entire movie while downloading and nothing happens... I just don't get it.
Ah.. and when I get BSODs it never is the same error. Or it's a memory adress (stop error 0x0029940<random at adress 0x41625753<random), or it's a win32.sys, or it's a ntfs.sys, or some other file stored in windows directory.
Please tell me what should I try? any DOS or Windows programs that may stress the CPU in order to see if it's OK please just help me somehow, any ideea will be good.
I wonder if anyone from MSI could give me a hint or at least tell me about a software they use currently in order to debug a MB problem (if t's possible to do so).
    Thanks

  • MSI 975X Powerup Edition RAID Problem in BIOS

Guys i just faced a new problem over the weekend. I had 2 x 160GB seagate SATAII hard drives in raid 0 for a while and they have been working fine.
I was try to overclock at FSB 450, then the system hanged did not post and strange beep came from the motherboard. Well after that i cannot install RAID, Motherboard is not reading harddrives in BIOS at all. Then i put the IDE drive and installed windows, plugged in the SATAII hard drives, installed drivers but now i can see the hard drives in the windows, even i can format them. The problem is now i cannot write on them, or install RAID in the BIOS.
Is the hard drive went bad, they are brand new only month old. Even though they are bad then i should not be able to format them or see them in the windows right?
I deleted the old RAID 0 i had on them in windows also. So what could be the problem.

I figured out the Problem. It was the bad BIOS 7.25 don;t update to BIOS 7.25 it will mess you up.
If you start facing problem with 7.25 go back to any other bios. I switched back to Official MSI BIOS and every thing back to normal.

Hello all, this is my first post here. I just recieved my new MSI mobo yesterday and am having alot of trouble out of it. I had a gigabyte DS3 and have had my E6600 up to 3.5ghz on it. So far im up to 3.2ghz 1.47vcore(bios), that inturn gives me 1.45vcore in windows(same as DS3). I have to run my ram @ Auto divider in bios to get it to be stable at all, if i dont it freezes in windows. This rams been up to 550mhz 4-4-4-12 on the DS3 mobo :( Im using the official 7.10bios BTW. Is there something im just overlooking in bios??? BTW is there an unlockable menu level like on the old Neo4's and such? Thanks in advance for any help

  • 975x powerup edition startup trubbels!

    Hello!
The last week a strange problem has occurred on my computer. When i turn on the power (I always cut the power from a switch "outside" the computer) the PS_ON led on the chassi lights up and I cant turn the computer on. If I cut power and turn it on again two or three times the PS_ON led doesn't light up and the computer starts, boots and works fine (no lockups and so on...)!
I haven't changed any hardware settings on more than a year, and I have never had this trubble before. I wonder If it can be the PSU?
So annyone up to the challange?

Have you got another video card that you try with your current setup, alternatively try your video card in another computer.
Also try to remove the VGA and reseating it. Check all your power connections again. Try also reseating the CPU .
Your tip solved the problem (almost). A friend of mine, who is a electric engineer and lives in another city, is here to visit me and watch the Olympic games (Olympic games on TV + beer =  ). He had some electronic gears in his car so we tested the old Hiper PSU. It works fine while running (max load 712 W) but about ten seconds after I shut the computer down the PSU sends a "power spike" on 13,5 V through the system.
We then disconnected the two GPU:s and grounded and demagnetised them with a device he had. After that we reinstalled them and tested. Same problem, then we put in a floppy with an old program that I once used to check which BIOS I had on my old Soltek rig. The program couldn't find any BIOS!
So I installed BIOS 7,6 and Voila! Now it works absolutely fine! (so far...  :-X) Our theory is that the Spikes from the Hiper PSU "locked" the graphic cards and later somehow drained the BIOS chip/memory. It would also explain why the PS_on led was glowing before I replaced the capacitors on the Hiper PSU.
I gonna test the system during the evening and will be back with a (hopefully) positive report!
    Cheers!

I have a 22" iMac desktop running OSX 10.6  Snow Leopard and it won't boot. I've tried shift start, option command P R. It's stuck at the restart, all I see is the spinning wheel below the apple logo. And I lost my OSX DVD is there any way to fix this? I just did a software update yesterday and have about 20GB left on my Hard drive. The last thing I did was try to install some plugin's for Pro Tools 8, but it wouldnt let me install so I restarted and now I'm screwed. Please Help!

You have to consider the possibility the hard drive may be dying.    If your data isn't backed up, try one of the tools below:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1689
Once you are sure your data is backed up, we can examine other possibilities.  In the meantime call AppleCare for your original installation DVDs.  You may need them.

It looks like ocz is aware of the issue and trying to address it via firmware:

  • Imac startup disc is full and it won't boot up.  what can I do?

My imac's startup disc is full and it won't boot up...thanks to my daughter uploading a million pictures.  What do I do to fix this?  We do have an external harddrive as well, but things haven't been moved over in a while.

You'll need to have access to another Mac.  Connected the two with a Firewire cable and boot your iMac into Target Disk Mode,  Transferring files between two computers using FireWire.  Now you'll have access to your iMac's boot drive where you can download the necessary files to an external HD that is formatted OS X Extended (journaled) and then delete from the boot drive to give you a minimum of 10-15 GB of free space.
One can move both your iPhoto and iTunes libraries to the EHD to free up space on the boot drive and run the libraries from there.  However, it must be formatted as I described above.

  • We need a new version of DualCore center to support the 975x PowerUp edition!

    Hi,
As of know, when I start up the DualCore center, it doesn't work 100 percent. For example, I can't adjust my cpu fan speed and that application beeps about me not having connected a cpu fan. Which is not true of course.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but the current version does just support the 965 platform? Well, I know there is alot of users on the 975x platform for Conroe aswell - and I would be delighted if MSI released a version which corrects this  .
If I am not mistaken, I think MSI already is in the process of making one! The DualCore software hasn't showed up on the homepage of the PowerUp edition neither so ..

sigssoft, 3-pin won't work with the speed control.... you must have 4-pin. I suffered this on 945G Platinum, 955X Platinum... I haven't got 975X board yet, but I'm pretty sure the design didn't change. I have 3-pin fan and no matter what I changed the PWM %, it won't change the fan speed. Then I learned about the schematics/circuits of the fan control, knowing that, OK, this is definitely HARDWARE limitation --- MUST use 4-pin to get fan control works.
What MSI said in the manual saying the certain 3-pin fan can also be supported. I truly doubt that.

  • MSI 975X Platinum POE and 6-pin power connection

    Hi,
I have seen a number of topics somewhat related to my problem, but I am still unsure.
I have an MSI 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition main board, and I recently bought a NorthQ 4775-500S power supply to replace my current Hiper HPU-4M580. A good PSU, but too noisy for my taste.
Anyway, when installing the NorthQ PSU, I noticed that it has a 6-pin connector, I think it is a PCI-e connector. The main board, however, has an 8-pin connector, called JPW in the manual:
"The JPW 12V power connector is used to provide power to the CPU"
The 6-pin plug from the PSU seems to fit nicely in the 8-pin connector. After reading some other posts, I started to remember that 4 pins of the JPW connector were indeed blocked by a removable plastic chip, which I did remove to make room for the 8-pin plug from my previous PSU.
So, I think I can use the 6-pin plug in the 8-pin socket, but I want to ask you guys first; Will this be correct and safe, or should I get a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter, or even a 6-pin to 4-pin adapter?
    Thanks in advance!

"The 6-pin plug from the PSU seems to fit nicely in the 8-pin connector"
    No don't do that.
If your PSU don't have 8pin power cable for the CPU, use the 4pin power cable instead:
But do NOT connect PCI-E power cable(6 pin) in CPU power socket.

  • MSI 975X OC memory and stuff

    Greetings,
I do not have any issue with my setting, but there are few things I am not sure to understand very well. I went through a lot of the msgs here and in other websites. However, I still have a few questions:
1 - I OC the FSB to 333 MHz, the memory can't run with any other setting than 1:2 and 4-4-4-12 or 4-4-4-11. And the funny thing, 4-4-4-11 performs worse on Sisandra Memory benchmark than the 4-4-4-12.
    Questions:
    a) Am I running 1:1 (333x2x2 = 1K bus)?
    b) Why does it not run at other levels? My understanding is it would be running at lower MHz (i.e.: 333x1.2x2)
2 - That stupid Core software coming with the MSI CD don't stop to sound an alarm. All my fans are running fine and the temperature is 42. Is there any way to shut it off?
3 - I know it is not related directly with the content of that board, but maybe someone already got that issue: Aquamark3d does all the tests, but at the end, it crashes before giving any results. I did not have that issue with the Asus P5W or my dell computer. I am suspecting 2 things now: the MSI board or the latest ATI driver. Anyone had/has the same issue?
    Thank you

well just dont use it. (remove it from autorun, or uninstall it). he is probably alarm low FAN's RPM check in core center config to fix it. you can also recheck BIOS settings to ensure fans speed. you can also disable Smart fan features to ensure system is cooled well.
3 - I know it is not related directly with the content of that board, but maybe someone already got that issue: Aquamark3d does all the tests, but at the end, it crashes before giving any results. yep dont worry about that its normal as you know Auamark is pretty old. its gives this problem in high end Ati VGA cards, not problem related (etc mobo or somethink other). happend the same with Sapphire x1600XT at Soltek 754 mobo.

  • Overclocking Pentium D 805 on a 975X PowerUp Edition

Before I go buy a Core 2 Duo I wanted to squeeze a few months out of my D805.  Unfortunately I find that I am limited to 165 MHz FSB and my FSB/memory ration is stuck in AUTO.  MSI tells me it's because my CPU is rated for 533 MHz FSB.  I say BS -- other mobos have overclocked this bad boy to 4.2 GHz.  I think it's lazy (or maybe lousy) BIOS programming.  Anyone else running a D805 have this problem?  Or better yet, a solution?
    My system:
    Pentium D 805@ FSB 165 = 3.3GHz
    Corsair DDR2-800 4-4-4-12, 1:2 ratio at 660 MHz
    MSI 975X Platinum V.2
    ATI Radeon X1800XT
    Antec Truepower 500W
    Seagate 120GB @ ATA-133

My system was working fine with BIOS 7.2 and the D805 at 3.2 GHZ but the BIOS limited my FSB selection.  BIOS 7.0 allowed me more options and it ran fine until I tried to push it past 3.6 GHz.  Then it never recovered.
I just bought a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 and everything works out of the box.  I'm running the same D805 CPU and same DDR2-800 memory rock solid at 3.8 GHz (that's as high as I'll go on air cooling) although it will hit 4.0 GHz if I want.  Only thing this board does not seem to have is manual memory timings so my 4-4-4-12 sticks are running at 5-5-5-17.  Oh well, I can live with that.
Conclusion:  MSI's board crapped out on me without it being pushed very hard.  I'm not ready to say MSI sucks just yet but this board has not impressed me so far.  I will have Newegg replace it and I may sell it or I may try it with my new E6600.  For now, I'll stick with Gigabyte!
Thanks to all who tried to help!
have you tried the dualcorecenter to pushing the fsb further with your intel d805? in this case you won't end up with the configuration burned in your bios or something ^^ you can adjust volts and fsb and stuff there and see temp at the same time as well as run some stability tests for ram or cpu if necessary.
