MSI 975X PUE + MSI StarHub 7-port USB 2.0 + Windows XP SP3 = Fail

Hi,
today I bought a MSI StarHub and connected it to my computer with MSI 975X PUE and Win XP SP3. But XP does not recognize the hub. On the same computer I have Win 7 installed. There the hub works very well. Any hints to get the hub working on XP? I have same problems with my mouse, logitech G500. It works on WIN 7 and does not work on XP. What can I do?

There was no driver for the StarHub included and I did not find a driver to download on the msi homepage. When running Win7 the hub is shown as Generic USB Device in the device manager on xp it is a USB 2.0 HUB [mtt] and I do not have the driver for this.
I installed the logitech G500 driver on both, win xp and win 7, but xp does not recognize it.

MSI 975X PUE Power Connector !

I've just noticed that the 975X has a 24 pin ATX connector. My Antec Truepower 480W PSU only has a 20 pin connector.
Is this an adaptor available or will I have to dig deep and buy a new PSU ?
If a new PSU, then any recommendations !

Not really. Here is a passage from the arcticle the other link did point you to:

Right can someone please care to explain to me, why this card requires not one but TWO 6 pin PCI-Ex connectors... which both have not one but TWO 4 pin Molex connectors.
Giving a grand total of 4 Molex connectors..
My PSU has 4x Molex and 1X SATA, I'm running 3 SATA drives and 1 DVD-Rom drive.
So I've had to ditch the extra drives so I could use the card.
Why can't the 4 pin Molex - 6 Pin PCI-Ex cables run off one single Molex plug instead of two?
I have two 12V rails from my PSU and both come from the PSU with their own single cable, which is spliced at the end... what's the point in using two plugs, both on that same splice when they both come from the same source?!
That's not the only thing, I have a lovely 4 pin Molex header on my main board next to the Primary PCI-Ex 16X slot, but it has pins... and guess what, so do the 4 pin Molex to 6 pin PCIEx connectors, so it renders it useless!
So a summation of questions.
Why two 6pin PCI-Ex headers on the card.
Why two 4 pin Molex plugs on the 6 pin PCI-Ex to 4 pin Molex converter?
Why have a Dedicated Molex header on the Main board which you can't physically connect to?
Me thinks the producers of this product need to scratch their head and re-think future products as it strikes me as idiotic.
P.s. Not once did I see ANY reference ANYWHERE to requiring four 4 pin Molex plugs to run the card.

Yes I can see that spreading current across two connectors will increase the capacity, but to spread it again over another two 4 pin Molex's seems a bit strange, considering the end it connects to is just piggied off the first plug, leading to one rail on the PSU. (4 wires, not 8!)
The power supply is only about a year old, but indeed is a cheap Bay of E Jobby.
So your saying the Molex header on the mainboard itself is to stick a 12V from the PSU into?
I thought it was there to power a PCI-Ex card using the adaptor cable, the manual refers to it as "JPWR"

With the cables provided with the new card, they have a total of 4 plugs, but all pins, so unable to connect to "JPWR"

I did a fair bit of research before buying this card, I settled on it because of my experiences with MSI as my Mainboard.
The Gigabyte one was 3 euro's cheaper and offered more or less the same bang for buck, and I was looking to keep this card for a number of years (I'm a student with a negative cash flow!) and hopefully make it last my next mainboard/cpu/ram upgrade (When I will actually get PCI-Ex 2.0!)
It just strikes me as odd when you look at a card and go "Oh, I'll need 1 6-pin Pci-ex connector, I can connect it to the mainboard with the provided header." Then discover you can't actually connect to the main board's provided header... Then discover there's actually TWO connectors... and both of hem require TWO Molex's to function... Grand total 4. And none of this was in any literature or specifications provided at all anywhere.
I don't know but maybe the Gigabyte one only uses one 6pin pci-ex power plug.. Maybe it only uses one molex to convert to it. I have no clue, I haven't researched that particular product.

MSI 975X PUE weird temps

I recently bought a 975X PUE, but I get really weird temperatures. With the DualCoreCenter app I get 42C idle. Speedfan, it displays from -125C to 90C at any time. In configuration I changed from PII diode to thermistor diode. That seemed to keep it at -25C. With Core Temp Beta 0.94 Core #0 and Core #1 I got 51C-52C idle. I am using the Intel stock cooler and paste. I used the latest version of all the apps stated above. What should I do? The board is brand new and the case has really good air conduction. Also note that I am using SMART Fan, when I disable the feature DualCoreCenter gives me temp 39C on CPU and Core Temp #0 Core 45C and Core #1 44C

Yeah I found most temp progs suck in this mobo/chipset (not sure which it is) - Dual CoreCenter gives a 10c different reading compared to all other progs (no cheating there then!) and the alarm also set off constantly even though tthere were no temp breaches.
CoreTemp has also given me wierd readings.
I use Everest Ultimate 2006 as it seems to be about right (or rather the only one which didnt give wierd readings)

MSI 975X PUE Audio Question !

A couple of questions regarding audio.
1. Does anyone please know what type of SPIDF connector is used on the back of this board as the 3.5mm digital din connector I have is to slightly too large for the socket.
2. I have one spare PCIE-X16 sockets and two spare PCIE-X1 sockets available. Can I install anew audio card on any of these or is the X16 socket specifically for another video card ?

It's an RCA type plug for co-axial cable, the same as any a/v cable such as the ones for audio with the red & white RCA plugs and the yellow RCA plugs on the video cables.
x16 slot can take any PCIe card from x1 to x16 not just VGA.

MSI 975X PUE Speed Stepping

I have had the speed stepping function disabled since I got the board, but today i enabled it because I wanted to see how it works.
But so far, I haven't seen the CPU slow down.
I have a TV tuner card, and when it is running, the CPU load is between 2 - 5%, but apart from that, all programs are idle. Could it really be because of the TV tunder card, that Speed Stepping doesn't activate?
I'm running 302 FSB, does that change anything?

Phew, I'm back. I flashed the BIOS successfully - thank you very much for your advice, and the bat file for the BIOS update worked perfectly - thanks for making that available.
I thought it had gone wrong for a while, because after using the BIOS reset switch with the new (OLD) BIOS, and I pushed the power button, it only turned on briefly, and then turned off again... - luckily it was just a cold boot, but it sure made me nervous for a little while
Right now, the board runs on default settings, but the C1E function is available in the BIOS, and I have selected Enabled because I would like to see how it works.
Maybe I'll see if the board OCs better, but not until tomorrow.. - I think it's time to go to bed

EDIT: One final question. This is most likely a very dumb question, but I'm very unfamiliar with the C1E setting.. - how does the CPU handle all the sudden changes in divider and frequency? Is it bad for the CPU, or is it ok?
One nice thing though, is that the idle temps are even better than before (which I guess is the purpose of the C1E setting)...

MSI GE40 adding HD and switching from AHCI IDE causes windows 8 to fail

Hello,
I removed my DVD from my ge40 laptop and added a caddy with a 1tb serial ata III hd 7200 rpm.
Not happy, I went in the bios and changed the sata from AHCI to IDE.
This caused windows to not being able to boot twice, and from that point it always go into automatic repair and then it fails (Automatic repair couldn't repair your pc).
I, of course, switched back to AHCI but it seems that it's too late.
I tried everything I could, from dos commands line actions, to refresh/restore, to safe mode, nothing works and it always go into automatic repair, failing.
F3 key does not do anything on boot.
I don't have windows repair dvd since it's a oem version.
What can I do?

I'll be honest, I haven't dealt with this issue.
The best thing *I* can suggest, is to contact MSI and RMA it to get them to reinstall the default software. Then the first thing I would do is make the backup/restore DVD's.

I have a P4 CPU HT in it with 2 512mb sticks of DDR2 memory (533mhz).
I am upgrading to a Core 2 Duo 6600 CPU which has a 1066mhz FSB
What memory speed should I purchase to achieve the fastest bus speed without overclocking???
I get confused as my current memory is 533 which I guess on a Pentium 4 with HT cuts the FSB speed in 1/2 to 266mhz.
Any recommendations?
Do I need to buy Dual Channel or can I just buy 2 sticks?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm not an expert and by budget does not permit me from making any mistakes.
The case fans create the most noise. When they are all on "low" I an hardly hear them and have to shake the mouse to see if it's on, but on medium it sounds like a "standard" computer. Not terrible, but not quite. On high they are down-right loud.

MSI 957X PUE.. My Problem Child

My MSI 975X PUE won't start. (I just took my whole computer apart and added water cooling). I don't see why it isn't booting though.
This is what happens:
I have reset the CMOS by removing the battery and checked everything is seated by the way:
Push start button
Everything springs to life
Loads BIOS
Press DEL
BIOS opens. Closes imediatly a few seconds later and computer continues running (but not starting) The screen goes into standby mode.
Initializing Hard Drive Controller is the error that the DLED gives me.

Wasn't that, but thanks for the help.
I did fix it though.
Turns out that the waterblock on my BFG 8600 GTS OC was so heavy and as it is mounted on the bottom of the card, it was pulling the card out of the slot (nothing that was visible). So now, the card it supported better it works. Don't know why that error was thrown though.
May have been a coincidence?

975x PUE random reboots during games

Here is my setup:
MSI 975x PUE
Core 2 Duo E6300
2GB Gskill 800mhz DDR2
X1900XTX (PCI-e)
300GB HDD
Xfi Fatality
Windows XP And Vista
My system seems to reboot randomly when playing games. No warning, No errors, just straight reboot. It could be 5 mins into the game or 45mins into the game. I have tried formatting and reinstalling windows XP Pro, I also tried installing Windows Vista Ultimate, I made sure the voltage in the BIOS is setup correctly for the memory, I run memtest86 for almost 24 hours with no errors, I run Windows MemTest for about 20 hours with no errors, I run PRIME2004 for about 9 hours with no errors, I tried different RAM, I bought a new hard drive, I replaced the Power supply with a brand new Antec 650 watt. I updated the BIOS. There are games which I have played for a few hours with no reboot, Diablo 2, Neverwinter Nights 1, Quake 3, Counter Strike Source. Games that reboot the system all the time are Command and Conquer 3, World of warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online Beta, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, and Neverwinter nights 2. I have also tried installing Ubuntu, and the install goes fine, but I cannot install the video drivers, and I get a PCI error every time I boot up, the error is too quick for me to take a note of.

That would lead me to believe the MB is defective then, not the RAM. If the MB is fussy about RAM why would the onus be on the RAM manufacturer to replace the RAM until something works instead of the MB manufacturer, who is the source of the problem, to properly design their MB?
FYI I'm also having issues with my 975x PUE where it won't boot with neither my very high quality OCZ RAM nor with just basic Crucial RAM. They've RMA'd my first board and the new one fixed my original problem (wouldn't even initialize POST) only to give me different problems. MSI royally screwed-up with that board and I hope they find a solution quick because I'm not very enthusiastic about being beta tester for hardware I pay hundreds of dollars for.

975x PUE & Overclocking Help

I have an Intel core 2 duo 6600, MSI 975x PUE mobo, 4gb ddr 2 corsair ram. I followed the several guides on overclocking, and currently have my CPU FSB at 333, the CPU Voltage is set at auto (according to PC Wizard 2008 it's running at 1.28V), my ram multiplier is at 1:1, ram voltage is at 2.1, ram timings at 4-4-4-12 Everything so far seems stable, idle temps are in the mid 30's (celcius), however i have one problem, When i restart my PC, the computer does not post, my screen just stays black. I have to reset it again for the bios to post and the computer to boot. Anyone know what causes this and how I can resolve it? I appreciate any help!

I researched my PSU and found nothing but great reviews, it's basically the same PSU as the OCZ GameXtream 700W PSU.
PCI Express frequency is on 100
Spread Spectrum is Disabled
Memory Timings are already manually set at 5-5-5-12 as per the manufacturer (I also tried 15 but no change)
Memory voltage is at 1.9 per the manufacturer
CPU Voltage is set on Auto since upping the voltage made no change.
My System is completely stable on default settings, and its' completely stable when overclocked to 3ghz, however when i restart the computer it will not do a warm boot, I have to hit the reset button. It's more of an annoyance then anything.
Right now I have my CPU running at 2.84 and memory at 667 w/multiplier on 1.25 and my computer will do a Warm boot Just fine. I'd really like to keep it at 3ghz though.

975X PUE SATA RAID Windows XP Blue Screen Install

I've just purchased a new MSI 975X PUE motherboard and am trying to install Windows on it.
I have connected 2x WD Raptor 36GB drives, and set them up in a RAID 0 array using the Ctrl+I RAID BIOS utility. I have set the SATA config in the BIOS to RAID mode, and turned off the other SATA controller... The RAID BIOS detects the array ok after it has been set up, and shows it as OK.
When I boot from a Windows XP SP2 CD I press F6 and choose the RAID Driver for ICH7R RAID. Windows tells me that it already has a driver but this version is newer, so I say to use the one on the floppy (I have tried without doing this and Windows does not detect any Hard Drives at all).
Once I have loaded the drivers it continues loading the other drivers for the setup, and then gets to "Loading Windows Setup", here is waits for a minute or so and the blue screens.... The stop code is 0x7B (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE)...
I have upgraded the BIOS from 7.0 to 7.1 (not 7.2 yet as I have read about problems with it).
I've tried various versions of the drivers from different locations, and each time it blue screens in exactly the same place... I'm beginning to get very annoyed with this as I shouldn't be expected to find my own drivers when there are ones supplied on the CD...
Is anyone able to suggest what I could do?

[EDIT] Also I have tried an install of Windows Vista Beta and that installed fine using the drivers from the CD...

I must say again that the problem is located in the memory modules. As suggested by Hans before, try running memtest86 first,

and sometimes even if tests runs fine, doesn't mean that memory is OK. It just might be that that type of memory doesn't fit within your MB. As I mention before, my friend was using Corsair for his MB(getting the message INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE), and after replacing with A-Data(definitely lower quality memory), everything went fine. So, try with another memory.
As for Murphyman, when you use the yellow connector, you are using the Jmicron controller,witch asks for RAID drivers before you use the device installed on it. The blue IDE controller is controlled by Intel's ICH7DH, and no RAID driver is need. So, try connecting the DVD drive on the blue connector, and see if will work.

One year later, I still have problems with the 975X PUE

A year ago, I bought the 975X PUE board and turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made when purchasing something computer-related.
To start with, the board didn't recognize the OCZ memory that I had bought, so I had to change it for some gSkill memory. That, however, involved a trip to Argentina since at the time it was very hard to get DDR2 memory @ 800 Mhz here in Uruguay. I had also complained about how the temperature monitor was unreliable and problems booting the computer.
I still have those problems, but I learned to live with it since no major problems arised. Sure, I'd have to boot three to six times just to get it running, but hey, no big deal.
Later, I decided to go for RAID1 and surprisingly, it worked so I had no new complaints.
However, lately something new has been happening. The computer seems to reboot randomly and without warning. This had happened before when lightning struck nearby (I blamed it on electro magnetic something) but now it happens all the time and I can't find a solution. I leave the computer on during the night and in the mornings, I come to find that it has rebooted when I was sleeping.
Here's what I have:
MSI 975X PUE (7.1083006)
INTEL E6600
GSKILL 4 GB DDR2 800 Mhz RAM
WD 320 GB 7200 RPM
2x WD 500 GB 7200 RPM (RAID1)
NVIDIA 8800 GTS

The only thing that I could think of for these random reboots is that maybe the unreliable temperature sensors fool the computer and make it seem like the CPU is a lot hotter than it actually is. I've fired up Everest and right now, with only Firefox and a couple of IM clients running, CPUs are at 50 and 54 degrees celcius. Taking into account that the case is open and I'm in an air conditioned room set to 24 degrees celcius and that there's a mini Typhoon on top of the E6600 as well as a couple of fans in the case, these CPU temperatures are nearly impossible.
What's going on with this? Can anyone help me out?

Daiver the biswall brand is a very cheap one, I think you should buy a trusted PSU. In Argentina you can find many brands, like Topower and Power Cooler, that are good PSUs and at a fair price.
The latest bios for this mother is 7.7, but some users find it not so good as 7.6. I use 7.6 and works perfect.
