  • 990 fxa-gd65 and nvidia gtx support?

    Hi all,
I just got the last of the parts for my new build and it should be  bamf'n . Anyway, I spent the last two days tracking down the b2 error code.  So I swapped out the Galaxy GTX 760 gpu with my old Radeon (I don't remember what it is but it's in the system now so I can't read it...) and low and behold, the system boots and i've got Window's installed and Fedora on the way.
Anyway, My question is this, Tiger Direct has already exchanged the Galaxy GTX 760 for another galaxy GTX 760 but that presented the same issue.  I'm unfamiliar with MSI's resources and therefore I must ask: Are there any known issues with the 990 fxa-gd65 and NVidia cards? GTX cards? Galaxy Cards?
Would I be better off exchanging this video card for a amd or another geforce?...
The only other thing I can figure it *might* be is that the psu doesn't supply enough power for that beastly graphics card...
I'm at a loss here.  I've never heard of any issue this specific to compatibility to two pieces of Hardware and this isn't my first Rodeo.
Here's the Hardware I have in there:
AMD Unlocked 8 Core 4.0 GHz with water cooing unit
    990 fxa-gd65 Mobo
    Thermaltake Smart M750W PSU
Galaxy GTX 760 (does not work)
    2x8GB HyperX 1600MHz RAM
    Toshiba 2TB 7200 RPM HDD
    Thermaltake Chaser MK-I

You had various GTX760 that won't work so seems to have something to do with the rest of the system... Just try it else you will never know.
I disagree. The card seems to be the issue because it is the only thing that we swapped out that resolved the issue.  While I agree that this is a good next step, it occurs to me that if a different card would also resolve the issue I would be willing to accept that path to resolution instead of taking the intermediary step of updating the bios. (which to be honest is not a very mature solution on MSI's part considering the board has no integrated graphics. So therefor if this is MSI's official stance on the issue then what you're asking of you customers that are builbing new systems is that they have another card on hand to update the bios with before installing the gtx card.  That may not be much for veteran system builders like me, but many people that are building their first system or even those whos graphics have died or had integrated graphics on their last system, will get hit by this.) I say all this not to be confrontational just to point out the catch 22 that MSI is putting it's customers in.
What I want to know is if we can be sure enough that this is going to resolve the issue that I can be assured that when I get off work and home and try this (after tiger direct closes) I won't have to wait until tomorrow to go return the part.
Basically, if you're sure then that's good enough for me.
Also, on your link I do not see windows 8 support for the driver.  This does work in Windows 8 correct?

  • Help, MSI 990 FXA GD-65 AM3+

I recently updated my bios through windows using the live updater(silly I know). It went successful until the live updater ran itself and it was as if my bios was updating again through the command prompt and it aws shutting down, which then put my monitors to a blank screen and my computer was still running so I switched the computer off thinking nothing of it. Now when I turn on my computer the computer seems to boot okay but there is no display on the monitors(i have two). I have tried taking the CMOS battery out and tried clearing the data with the jumpers with no avail. I have also tested my graphics card in another computer in which it works fine.
Is there anyway to fix this such as flashing the bios blind? or something along those lines. Im really struggling to see what i can do and im ready to purchase another motherboard.
    Help me please

you could try a blind flash via USB using the >>MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< and a copy of the original bios!
if that doesnt work you have 2 other options open to you!
1: if the board is under warenty send it back to MSI for RMA to be reflashed <-- if in the usa - if your in europe take it back to the shop or contact the retailer you got it from for them to forward it to MSI!
2: if its no longer covered under warenty find a shop that has a SPI Flash Programing device for them to direct flash the bios chip to a working version!
if you do get it back up and running REMOVE LIVE UPDATE! <--- we see so many bricked boards with it (its totally dangerous and shouldn't be used ever)!

  • Sneak Peek of MSI's Z77A-GD65 Motherboard :)

Here is a quick sneak peek of MSI's Z77A-GD65 motherboard. The board is intended for the upcoming Ivybridge 22nm processor which I think will be out this end of April. CPU socket is based on LGA 1155, so current Sandybridge Processors such as 2600k, 2500, 2300, etc… are still compatible. Other than this, the chipset natively supports USB 3.0 and PCI Express GEN3 lanes which can do both NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX. Running one video card is at x16, two at x8/x8 and three at x8/x4/x4.
With the release of MSI X79 motherboards a month ago. MSI introduced Military Class III Components. This consists of Solid Capacitors, Super Ferrite Chokes (better overclocking and power stability), Hi-C Caps and DrMOS II (higher power efficiency, double thermal protection). All these components have passed the MIL-STD-810G Standards giving the best durability, efficiency and overclock on MSI motherboards.
Moving on, here is the Z77 of MSI looks like. Black and Blue color themed motherboard and I pretty like what they have done with the heatsinks. The layout is clean and finally they moved the OC Genie, Reset and Power buttons on the upper right portion of the board. Much accessible especially when you are in a TRI-SLI video card configuration.
Some basic information on MSI Z77A-GD65:
    •Memory Support – 4x DDR3 DIMMs Support DDR3 2667/2400/2133/1866/1600/1333/1066 DRAM 32GB Max

Let’s check out the lower portion of the board. Just below the South Chipset Heatsink. You will find the Debug LED Code and beside it is the MULTI Bios Switch.
The white SATA ports on the right side are the one being controlled by the Intel Z77 Chipset while on the other side are by ASMedia. You will also find the USB 3.0 L-Type Oriented Header for better cable management.

I was able to test the motherboard using an Intel Core i7 2600K. Well it seems for me that the Z77 is more better in overclocking compared than the previous P67 and Z68 MSI models. Voltages are quite accurate too. It wasn’t hard for me reaching a 4.8GHz overclock on the said motherboard.
Below are two benchmark results using MSI Z77A-GD65 and the 2600k.
So that’s it for my share Hope you liked it guys

I wouldn't get too tied up in benchmarking unless that is what you are going to be doing with your computer.  The -gd65 is MSI's 3rd best z77 motherboard, but it is also a bit older and has more bugs worked out.
One big strike against the gd65 is it's lack of a true hardware switch for it's multi bios. The -gd80 and mpower both have multi bios's with a true hardware switch, this come in very handy if you like to tinker and end up flashing bios allot or overclocking often where a corrupted bios is a possibility.
Just out of curiosity, what are the first and second best ?
So you say you never had issue of slow sata transfers ?

    Dear MSI,
I'm having problems with CPU temperature monitor on MSI FM2-A85XA-GD65 motherboard, every software i have tried shows zero (0) degrees Celsius, no matter what.
Bios itself shows correct temps, so i think this is bios problem. In this video they are able to monitor CPU temp with ClickBios II with bios version 1.0B28:
I tried to find newer bios with Live Update 5 but it cannot find newer than my current 1.0B15.
Can you offer me newer bios? I'm writing review of this motherboard, but this annoying problem is delaying my review to complete.

When i move it to the PCI e4 slot, it comes up with d6 error.
When i move it to the PCI e5 slot, it works perfectly.

You flash the bios using the tool found in the downloads here on the forums and the file from msi. You format a usb using fat32 then run the program. Boot from that usb and it will flash the bios. You never want to update a bios from windows.
Memtest 86+ is a bootable program that will test your ram.
Just google it and you will find it, you can run it either from a usb or cd.
Just to get your problem straight from what I saw in the video, when you hit power it get stucks for abit in bios probably have a code on the bottom right of your screen a2, then bios passes and you get a warning something to the effect of no bootable device detected right? If that is correct you may just be able to boot from the windows dvd / usb and reload and all will be fine so long as your ssd is being dectected.
Flashed to 11.11. I'll test with Memtest 86+ in a minute.

  • Select- Color Range- Results in Blue Screen (PC)  (driver out of date)

I've been using the CS6 beta about two days.  While experimenting with color range I experienced two consecutive blue screen crashes.  The first time it happened,I was working with the color range selector and was replacing the selected areas with another color using the paint bucket.  About the third time I attempted this, my PC blue screened.  The second time, I opened a photo, went to Select>Color Range and got an immediate blue screen crash.
I then went back to CS5 and I've been playing with the same scenario with no apparent problems.
My PC is a store built computer.  It consists of an MSI 990-FXA GD80 motherboard, an AMD Phenom 1100t CPU, Asus GTX550 Ti graphics card and 8 gig of RAM.  It boots from a 60 gig SSD and my programs reside on a 500 gig hard drive.  The OS is Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.  CS6 is using the hard drive for its scratch disk and Photoshop is using 4339 mb of the 7232 mb of available RAM - I haven't changed that.  I'm running CS6 as administrator because the way it installed, it would only run in that fashion.
One disappointment during the installation was CS6 made no attempt to read my preferences from the CS5 install.  That may be covered in another post, I've not yet looked.
Please keep us informed as new betas are released, because I would like some time to work with this puppy before plunking down big bux for the upgrade.  As it is now, I'm going back to CS5.  I get mighty nervous when my super computer blue screens!

The GPU is often at root of issues like yours. I've had so many problems with Nvidia drivers for their gaming-oriented adapters (like yours) that I finally went with one of their workstation cards. I have a Quadro card with just enough RAM to make Photoshop happy. The workstation drivers are optimized for reliability, the consumer card drivers are optimized for gaming and that often means they're less stable and reliable with Photoshop.

  • P55-GD65 Problem Freezes / Shuts Down unexpextedly

    Hi all,
I've recently received a replacement P55-GD65 part for my pc upgrade. The first mobo was broken but I'm not sure wether the current one is any better.
I have a freezing problem with my set up. After I power up it goes to post and lauches windows. However, within 5 to 10 minutes the system just shuts down on its own. Sometimes this happens already in BIOS when I've been looking around for a solution for some time.
After power down pressing the power button doesn't help. I have to disconnect power cord from PSU and wait a bit before reconnecting for the power button to work again.
I've been reading other posts and people have the similar problems, but none of the solutions have resolved my problem.
I've tried putting OC genie on - no solution.
I've tried using only 1 memory - no solution. and yes I've taken the memories out and reincerted them.
I've tried setting BIOS to optimized defaults - no solution.
I've tried setting memory speed down from Geil automatic 1333MHz to 1060MHz - no solution.
I've tried setting memory voltage up from Geil automatic 1,5V to 1,6V - no solution.
I've tried taking CPU out and replaced it in the socket - no solution.
I've updated Intel drivers from MSI website.
I've updated other drivers from the CD that came with the mobo.
    BIOS version is 1.3
There has been a lot of discussion about corsair memory modules but none about the GEIL ones I have. Has anyone experience with the memory I have? According to MSI website P55-GD65 is tested with a dual setup of 2g Geil memory that I have, and should be ok.
Can anyone lend a hand so that I can get my pc running. This has by far been the most troublesome upgrade for me.
    Thanks for replies!

  • BSOD or slow mode - Z87 GD65 Gaming

    Hi all,
    I have a MSI Z87 Gaming GD65 mobo.
When i have turned on the OC Genie (gear 1) i am getting SOO many BSODs (124) that i cant even enter windows or even install windows...
When i have turned on the OC Genie (gear 2) i am not getting any BSODs, but after 1-2hrs (sometimes less) my PC is going into slow-motion... game (example: Warface) is freezing or is VERY slow... when i hit alt+tab i do not have a mouse cursor and everything is very slow with some speeds-up (from time to time).
Oh, also i can hear the sounds, talk with people over TS3 but cant to anything - black screen.
When OC Genie is turned off the same thing applies.
I have tried Memtest for about 6hrs... no errors.
    Ptime95, OCCT all good...
Graphics card test - all correct.
I have noticed that when i changed the CPU (4770k, set to 4GHz) Voltage to 1.2 the PC went into slow-mo in a few sec. The Voltage on RAM is set to 1.6 now (XMP profile + manually changed the voltage).
    Any ideas what is wrong?

Recommend not to exceed 1.65v's on the DRAM V. setting.
I second that! back off the DRAM V to 1.65V max as that is the maximum tolerance for DDR3 Memory chips and exceeding that will start to damage them (the silicon will slowly vaporize and eventually fail under that high a voltage) so back it off to 1.65v or lower!

    hi all,
I've just bought a new MSI Gaming Z87-GD65 MB last week, and a new Xeon E3-1230 V3 cpu,.
Formerly my machine is Asus Sabertooth 990FX + AMD 1055T X6. It runs well with my OCZ V2 and V3.
When I built this new machine and install the new OS(WIN 7 Ultimate 64). Problems appeared continuously.
when i turn on the computer with my OCZ V2, it always restart at least once with a flash of blue screen, then into the windows log-in screen, when i restart the computer after installing new drivers, it rebooted with a windows failure screen and asked me to restore back!
When i start the machine with OCZ V3, I can't power off my computer after i selected the power-off button in Windows. The screen turned black and the HDD light is OFF, but the Fans are still running, the power LED is still ON! what's the problem then? SSD isn't compatible with the MB or new Intel Chipsets? My SSDs both upgraded to latest Firmware and the MB Bios is Version 1.5.

MSI motherboard Z77a-GD65 gaming and i want to Connect 2 fans (18 watt together ) to a 3-pin header will it work at full speed (2200 RPM ) ?
how many watt does each 3pin header outputs , and does all 3 headers put out the same wattage ?

Better confirm with MSI technical what the maximum power draw is on the fan headers. Always was under the impression that around 1 to 2 amps is about the limit as the exact data is nowhere to be found.
Your 18 Watt = 1,5amp.  So it may be OK or not OK.
