MSI AMD 890GX and Temperature Monitoring

Bear with me if this is a silly question to ask, this is my first computer build so I have a lot to learn.
I'm wanting to get a 5.25 in bay temperature monitor and was hoping there might be a port or connector somewhere on the motherboard to give me the bios reading of the CPU and/or northbridge temperature to external hardware. I, obviously, have the 890GX board and the Athlon II 3X but before I try any overclocking I want to be able to see a true temperature reading.
I've looked at a few fan controllers and temperature displays that have probes for their readings but I'm not fully convinced that readings in the area of the CPU or northbridge would be adequate, safety-wise.
Thanks

I have nothing against the BIOS readings, in fact that's what I'm interested in. My complaint about temperature probes is that its only going to give me a reading of the surrounding area rather then a direct reading of the cpu temperature.
I want to know if theres anyway to use one of the jUSB ports to connect to a piece of hardware to display the bios temperature readings. I'm sure this would involve a little bit (or a lotta bit) of coding to accomplish if its possible at all but I'd like to know if anyone has any information about hardware to do this.

When I look in Sisoft Sandra 2003 Professional on mainboard information  - temperature sensors I see that power/aux temp. is 53-59 celzius. I changed to new power supply and problem isnt gone. What is wrong does enyone now ? Please help me. THANKS ! ! !

  • Temperature monitor vs. istat pro

I have both istat pro and temperature monitor. Which one is going to give me accurate information because they don't agree? Temperature monitor says that things are running a little cooler... Any ideas. Also in the overview that Temperature monitor displays, my SMART Maxtor drive has a big dash under the temperature column?????
When I installed Temperature monitor there were a whole bunch of dialogue boxes, almost like they were trying to scare you... Stuff about how the software was going to scan all your sensors and try to gain access to them.(required an admin password to install) Are there any reports of this software doing anything bad to the hardware, or anything of that nature?
Thanks for the input in advance

Hi, whichever App you use you are getting info from sensors, just like the temp gauge on you car/cooker/ == gaining the info does not harm your Mac. The more Apps you are running at one time will obviously increase temps & usage
of the processor...If your computer is giving problems or you have reason to believe it is overheating call AppleHelp or visit a Mac/Agent Store..L

  • Does MSI fx5900 "SP"-VTD 128 support temperature monitoring?

    Hello everybody!!!
I really need someone's help here.I recently used the coolbits hack to overclock my card(MSI FX5900 SP-VTD 128).It runs fine after overclocking but the problem is that I can't monitor the cards temperature!!!
I used both the 3D Turbo Expirience and the registry hack to add those DWORD values that enable the thermal monitoring, but even after that I couldn't see the card's temperature!!!
Is there anyone who can give me a solution to this problem?I really don't want to damage my card by overheating it!!!

I have the same card as you the MSI FX5900SP 128VTD and it does have temp monitoring, i has used different drivers and my temp monitoring tab has always worked o.k, you may have damaged it already if you are excessivly O/C the card, i can only get mine to 465/812 before i start to see affects or lockups, so that may be the case, i am looking to flash my card though with a bios from a FX5900U to get the O/C that i want but i want to know if its been done first , i know you can do a FX5900U to a FX5950U so why not a FX5900SP(XT or SE) to a FX5900U?

  • MSI KT4 ultra and AMD ATHLON 2600+ and Corsair 512Mb 3200

    Hello,
    i've bought a: MSI KT4 ULTRA and a AMD ATHLON 2600+
Today, i've updated the bios to the version 1.3! So: no problem to reboot after the process complete.
BUT, now i can't set the CPU at 2.16Ghz (280Mhz clock) because if i set the clock up to 100Mhz it doesn't reboot anymore! the motherboard detect the frequency @ 1250 Mhz :(((
    Please: HELP ME
(sorry for the grammar and / the english) but i'm a french guy.

    Hi,
I had the same issues, see the thread:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/viewindex.php?threadid=11717&boardid=13&styleid=1
Essentially I had to set (in the BIOS) the FSB to 166 and left the Multiplier on auto.  This ment the processor was reported properly as 2600+, but the memory will only run at 333 MHz...  Yeah I think I wasted the money on getting the latest and greatest memory too....
Had me worried for a while, I though my supplier had palmed a bad chip off on me....  It just that the board can't do the highest speed chips and the highest speed memory at the same time (it states that that is unsupported in the manual...)
    hope the helps...

  • MSI 970 Gaming and AMD 8350 only 2 ghz

So I just finished my new build. Did lots of reading a research to build a budget machine. My amd 8350 will go no higher than 2.09 ghz. Can someone help me out. I do understand the 970 chipset isnt the greatest for 8350's, but the build supports it, and I don't really do OC'ing to CPU. Im a gamer on a budget. any help will be much appreciated.

make sure these are set as such in BIOS
    go to Settings\Advanced\Power Management Setup
    EUP2013 = Disabled
    go to Overclocking\CPU Features
AMD Cool and Quiet = Disabled
    C1E = Disabled
if you do not mind your computers CPU running hotter all the time Enable HPC Mode (High Power Computing Mode) as that will auto max out the clocks it uses and will not let them drop below Base clock speed (4GHz for the FX8350)!
All of this is done, and it freezes on win 7 splash art loading screen, and never moves. That is with the HPC enabled. I do have High performance set as my power mode inside of win7 as well.

What BIOS version do you use? What does Current CPU Frequency show under BIOS? Have you tried clear CMOS by taking out the battery with power cord unplugged?
I am on bios version 22.2, cpu freq at 4000MHz. I also did clear the CMOS, I was embarrassed caue i couldn't find it, then I saw it setting under my GTX 970.

  • Temperature Monitor software and Snow Leopard

On my Mac Pro Core Temperatures are not displayed with Snow Leopard as they are under Leopard. Do I have a problem or do others notice this?

    Berkley,
I'd try reinstalling whatever software you're running, I assume Temperature Monitor from Marcel Bresink. It's possible there's a SL update you didn't get yet. Also try Using his Hardware monitor in demo mode. I'm seeing my core temps clearly under Snow Leopard.
Also, sometimes quitting and restarting the monitor software helps. Several times if necessary. Temperature Monitor has some menu items that are helpful if readings don't display, like Rescan Sensor Configuration and Update All Readings Now. Try those.
    Hope that helps,
    Rob

  • Just got the MSI 785g-E53 and AMD 1055 = no boot

    Hi
As the topic reveals, i have a big problem.
Just got a new motherboard from MSI and an AMD cpu and installed it into my case with all the other hardware.
When i was going to start it, the fans and the dvd-rom startet, but no picture on my screen. and after a few secondt the cpu fan went from silent mode to MAX SPEED! whats going on? I tried to fire it up without pci cards, harddisks and dvd-rom, but still no picture and the fan want to fly away after a few seconds. Then i took out the GPU, since the 785g-e53 has integratet graphics, but still the same symptoms.
Any ideas what i can do? My gues is that the MB's BIOS version does not suport the AMD 1055..  if thats the problem, can i flash without the cpu?
    Thanks for any help.
    Sleepy.

it was a cpu problem.    Motherboard came with bios version 3.0 so i had to buy a sepron 140 just to flash it to 3.8 so the 1055 could work. and now its fine!
Now i just need to find out what kind of gaphic card i sould get. since the MB has integrated graphics i can use crossfire, but dont know what is compatiple with the MB.
    Recomendations would be appreciated.

  • KT880 Delta S3 Standby and Temperatures

    Hi,
I`ve had this KT880 for about three months now and everything runs great, no stability problems. Only problem I have is that when I have resumed from S3 standby, any temperature monitoring software reports the CPU as the same as the system temp. Usually my temps are around 40c system and 45-50c cpu before going into S3, then its around 40c for both after S3. A reboot sets everything back to normal.
I`ve used Motherboard Monitor, MSI CoreCenter and SpeedFan, all give the same readings before and after S3. I`ve clean installed Windows with the same results, and I`ve updated the Bios from 1.8 to 1.9 which is the latest Bios for this board. I haven`t tried an earlier Bios, but I don`t really want to go backwards in Bios revisions.
I also emailed MSI two weeks ago about it and got the automated response but nothing in reply yet.
Does anyone else use S3 and have this problem or know of any solution?
    Thanks.

I have 2 systems with the KT880 board One hase AMD XP3000+ /1 G dualchannel ram (pc2700)/ATI 9800 Pro with artic cooler that vents out the back of the case . the other is the same except AMD XP3200+, with 1 G ram(pc3200), they are both in Antec plusview cases. I have had the same result with My temps on both systems and IN ADDITION the 3000+ system reports that the FSB is 174 or higher (No overclocking and FSB set at 166 in bios) the error shows up in CPUZ , Everest home addition, core center. the 3200+ system does the same in reverse insted of 200 FSB it drops to 174 0r 178 the temps on both run about the same 50c on CPU min use or idle and 40/41c system. After resume from S3 the FSBs are off and the temps of CPU and Sys are almost the same 44cpu / 42c sys . after reboot of the system all is good.  Befor anyone says it I updated Bios to 1.09 removed and reinstalled core center all updates are current and both systems are clean installes of windows XP home.
    anyone have any ideas.

  • Temperature monitor conflict

I dont know who to believe ? looks like I have here Msi motherboard control center ( just because it came with the mobo i do not know if it is the number one contender) and speed fan weighing in at 41 c 105 f vs CPUID hardware monitor and core temp 1.0 weighing in at 22 c .
without the jokes i do not understand the temperature behind speed fan pic MSI says cpu so you know what the temp refers to.
this is under no load . Im rooting for the 22 c cpuid ... thats the msi 990 xa gd 55   and fx 8120 8 core...link with pic.

I'm not extremely familiar with the GX series myself, or any of the AMD based notebooks.
    BUT....90C is rather warm IMHO.
The best I can suggest, is that if you're feeling adventurous, and have the skills, you could use the assembly guide and disassemble the laptop and replace the thermal compound on the CPU and GPU heatsinks. Then check what the temperatures are afterwards. Hopefully they go down.
If you don't feel adept at doing this, the best I can say is to contact MSI for a possible RMA.

  • MSI 970 Gaming motherbaord temperature parameters

So here is the deal I've been using MSI 970 Gaming motherboard for a couple months everything is OK except it's very annoying to measure temperature for AMD cpu and processor.  I'm using four different programs to determine the approx value for temperature.
    1. HwInfo
    2. CPUID HWmonitor
    3. MSI Command center
    4. Core Temp
Certainly reading from Hwinfo and CPUID HWmonitor is matching with MSI command center reading , so I assume that it's CPU and Motherbaord temperature , but what is the TMPIN1 in CPUID HWmonitor or CPU (green boxed) in HWinfo. I know that different board has different sensors for that purpose. So anyone can help with that confusion?

Quote from: Chike on 01-March-15, 12:49:26
3rd party software is generic and has no knowledge about which sensors are actually connected and which are not.
There is no point worrying about it. With HWiNFO it is easy to hide irrelevant sensors.
What is more disturbing is the fact that "CPU0/Package" temperature is much lower than "CPU", obviously that is not possible, or shouldn't be as the core is where the heat comes from. CPU may be 1c above due to sensors accuracy but not 30c off.
This seems to a bug/error in both HWiNFO and Core Temp (I don't see thos sensors in HWMonitor). You can direct this issue to the developers.
I know it's a common issue with AMD for lower temp reading but what is the general idea about that green boxed reading? is it socket or northbridge? Certainly two of them are matching with MSI command center reading so i guess MOTHERBOARD is MOTHERBOARD and CPU is CPU but there is a confusion with that middle value.

  • MSI 785GM-E51 and memory modules problems

Could anyone help me with one problem. I have motherboard MSI 785GM-E51 and 4 memory modules GOODRAM GR 1333D364L9/2G. But when I'm inserting ALL modules my system not starting (even POST procedure). So working variants - when I'm inserting:
    - one module in first (boot) slot
    or
    - they inserted in first and third memory slots
    Any ideas?

It is not motherboard problem, but processor itself - I have AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3,4 Ghz Core Revision C2 and this revision (according to the article: http://www.fcenter.ru/online.shtml?articles/hardware/processors/27650#02) has problems with support memory modules DDR3-1333 Mhz more than 2 modules. Conclusion - either adjust BIOS settings concerning memory timings and memory controller voltage or replace this kind of processor with the same type but with core revision C3

  • Is it possible to transfer the temperature readings through "Serial I/O" port of Lakeshore temperature monitor?

With this monitor, you can have 2 analog outputs that you can transfer to the computer by using DAQ boards. In my case, I need temperature measurements at 3 different locations so I need 3 analog outputs, which is not possible with this device.
However, the monitor can also store temperature data in its memory and print the data. What I need is not to print the data but send the data to the computer somehow in digital form and postprocess it. I am using the "serial I/O" port to connect the device to the computer. I think I can do some configurations on the temperature monitor with the drivers in the link (http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.download_page?p_id_guid=0241DD1B3AAF0341E0440003BA7CCD... ) but I am not sure if the device recognize the commands that I send through the I/O port.
Any advice on how to transfer (in digital form) the stored data on the monitor to the computer?

    http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.download_page?p_id_guid=0241DD1B3AAF0341E0440003BA7CCD...
and the temperature monitor is the one in this link: http://www.lakeshore.com/products/cryogenic-temperature-monitors/model-218/Pages/Overview.aspx
Actually, it says in the manual that the stored data can be send to either printer or they can be retrieved by the computer interface. However, there is not enough information about how to perform this task.
I am using labview to read the data for the analog outputs and the drivers in the first link are also in labview language. But with those drivers, I cannot retrieve the data to the computer.
I will check MAX to test the communication with the device, though. Thanks for the advice!
