MSI AMD RADEON HD 6970 Lightning Problem

Hi guys i was wondering if you can help me. I am fairly certain i have a problem with my graphics card when playing a particular game (Football Manager 2012) via Steam.
On occasion the game will freeze entirely, along with my keyboard/mouse etc, and sometimes it will rectify itself and carry on as normal or it will stay frozen resulting in me having to do a hard reset.
I have updates my drivers, all windows updates etc but still have this problem. I have double checked with the game developers who are adamant its not them and I'm at a loss to be honest.
Please can someone help me? I Can play CIV5 and watch movies etc fine its just this game. Specs are below:
Corsair CMPSU-850AXUK Professional Series Gold 850W Power Supply
"Creative Sound Blaster Xi Titanium Fatal1Ty Professional Series Sound Card
8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance RAM
Intel i5-2500k processor @3.30Hz
Windows 7 64 bit
MSI Radeon HD Lightning 6970
Many thanks

Apologies for the delay in responding..my motherboard is a GB Z68X-UD3H-B3
I have since tried Batman Arkham Asylum and it does the same thing..almost like the game is playing in the background when the screen freezes as it comes back in a later period of time (game wise)

  • MSI ATI Radeon HD 6970 Lightning Issues

    Hi all,
Back in May I upgraded my 4870's in crossfire to a 6970 lightning, and I have been having some issues since then, but I'm not sure if its down to a dodgy card, or driver issues, and wanted to sound them out before I do anything.
    The issues currently are -
Actual navigation around Vista is fine. No issues with video playback. Only graphical quirk is in Zune Marketplace, which occasionally has the odd line which seems to streak away from album pictures.
In games, the line streaking is much worse, and makes them somewhat unplayable. Dragon Age 2, Witcher 2 and Global Agenda, all have the problem. Not sure if streaking or tearing is the correct term really. I'm about half way through Dragon Age 2, and in the mansion house, the streaks radiate away from the characters and most animated objects, the fireplace for example. Haven't started Witcher 2, but this is the same in the tent at the very start, there is also speckles, or purplish dots on dark objects. The same issues occur in Global Agenda, but on a much worse scale. In game video's are fine however.
Also, in Rift, an odd speckling of pink/purple dots on certain terrain. No big deal, certainly not a game ruiner, was barely noticeable.
    No crashes at all however...
I have tried cleaning drivers on several occasions and attempted to run the cards using the latest ATI drivers, as well as the drivers that came with the card, and also the drivers listed on the product webpage. I have tried the card with both bios settings, have removed and reseated the card, but nothing improves.
I have discussed this on the forum of the company that I bought the card, and the general consensus is that its a dodgy card and I should RMA. I wanted to try here before I go down that route, as I really would prefer a working card than having to go down the RMA route, which would be a last resort.
    Thanks!

Yes to driver sweeper, both with MSI drivers and latest ATI drivers.
Happens in all games I have on the computer, Metro 2033 does not load at all however.
I have tried with both default clock speeds, and also underclocked, I believe default is 940/1375, I have tried at these speeds, and also underclocked at 900/1325.
I also tried uninstalling all drivers, installing drivers for one of the 4870's I used in crossfire and trying that, and it allowed me to play the games with no issues.
I don't have another PC that would fit the card, so can't try it in another pc.
Only pictures I have access to are small and don't really show the issue, I will try to provide better ones tonight.

  • Stability issues: MSI ATI Radeon HD 6970 2048MB Twin Frozr III

Evening all, been having some issues with my recently purchased MSI card. I'm inclined to think there is damage/issues with the video memory on the card.
I did some quick research on the card and it seems that the model i have was originally a reference version of the 6970 Lightning which was given a factory go-over and re-branded. This may account for the heatsink/fan assembly being loose, some scratches on some of the surfaces and dust build up on the rear of the card.
I have had the card in my rig for over a week now and stability has been an issue through this period. After reading a few threads online I set a custom fan graph using MSI Afterburner and regularly monitor GPU temps. DxDiag shows the card to have 1774MB Approx total memory, which i find worrying given the card specs state it should read 2048BM.
The driver crashes occur both when the card is idle and under load with no obvious cause. The GPU clock is stock 880Mhz and i have lowered the memory clock to 1300 (stock: 1375) in an attempt to improve stability, so far this has shown some success.
Can anyone give me some advice as to if this is likely a hardware issue or driver based? Also any recommendations on how to improve stability other than getting a new card (i have no more money to spend on replacement parts).
    Thank you for your time

driver crashes means BSOD? if yes, this hapends during what?
have you tried to load BIOS optimized defaults?
do you use MSI vga drivers for your video card?
is your computer stable if you use another video card?
    To answer in order:
No BSOD, the display locks up, audio continues to play, both screens flash to blank black then the UI returns and windows 7 reports "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
I have not loaded BIOS optimized defaults that i am aware of.
I am currently using ATI drivers sourced from the ATI site.
Machine is stable when using integrated GFX or an Nvidia 470GTX (with corresponding drivers).

  • AMD Radeon HD 7400M driver problem - causing lag

hi, I got the Windows 10 upgrade on my HP Pavilion DV6 6053ea and I noticed it taking much longer than usual to boot up and also to restore from sleep.  I get a black screen for over a minute before things appear on screen. I disabled the AMD Radeon HD 7400M in device manager and boot up was far faster.  I went to HP: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-dv6-6000-entertainment-notebook-pc-series/5048664/model/5081030#Z7_3054ICK0K8UDA0AQC11TA930O2 and installed the AMD driver but it only crashed my laptop and I keep getting a C++ error.  Where can I get the best driver that will enable my laptop to run at full speed ?

Hello , Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I read your post about the Windows 10 update, and wanted to assist you!
The link that you provided shows that there are no Windows 10 drivers available for your product at this time.  I recommend using the Go back to an earlier build option, in your System Settings:HP Notebook PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10
Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 update for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.
    Regards!

  • MSI - AMD Radeon HD 7850 OC Edition CRASH

    Hello,
I recently bought MSI HD 7850 OC Edition. Before I install new card,
     - I uninstalled AMD 12.2 drivers, reboot pc
     - Ran DriverFusion (newer version of DriverSweeper), deleted entries and reboot, then shutdown.
     - Removed my old HD 5770.
     - Installed new card.
     - Installed new drivers and reboot.
Then I wanted to test performance in BF3, i had significant FPS boost but after like 2-3 mins, sound started looping then i got a white screen with stripes. Then I rebooted and tried again. This time I had black screen, my monitor just went into sleep. I thought maybe it is a problem with BF3 only. So I tried Natural Selection 2. Again, after 2-3 mins I had a green screen with stripes again.
    Any ideas?

Hi Guys, so I to recently purchased a new system and a MSi HD 7850 1G graphics card and I'm getting the same vertical line random crash when I play games  ( happens on Batman or GW2) and when I run FurMark Burn Test.
Bare in mind I've reinstalled the Gcard drivers from the website, reinstalled windows 7 64bit and swapped ram.  My GeForce 9800 Graphics card works fine and passes a 20min Furmark burn test and does not crash the machine, so I think it must be the HD 7850 card settings or its just dodgy card!
I read on another forum that I should change the core clock target and the core memory targets  using Catalyst Control Centre.
    (Google Tomshardware - sapphire-7850-edition-vertial-lines-crash-issue-help)
This seems to be what your suggesting to try here, so I was wondering what values I should change these to? It was originally set to:
    core clock target:
    30000
    90000
    memory core target:
15000 (don't know why this was so low)
    120000
(do I need to another property name, Want_2 ? As suggested in the link? )
Also if changing these setting fails, what should my next core of action be?
    here is my system:
    Board: Gigabyte X79-UD3
    VGA: MSi HD 7850
    PSU: Corsair CX7750 750watt
    Intel Core i7-3820 3.60 GHz
    MEM: Corsair 16 GB
    SSD: 128Gb
    OS: Windows 7 64bit
    Thanks

  • MOVED: MSI Amd Radeon HD 7870 Hawk won't overclock

This topic has been moved to Overclocking, Undervolting.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165481.0

Interestingly enough, after reading your post, I did some checking with mine. I have the core voltage bumped up to 1.237 in afterburner (note: it rounds the voltage to the nearest 3/10 of a volt I think) and the clock at 1150 for testing, down from 1200 where it's been for a couple of months due to recent crashes in BL2.
Both GPU-Z and HWiNFO64 show 0.825v at idle and 1.219v under load! Afterburner, however, shows 1.3v using it's in system tray monitoring tool.
So now I don't know what to believe. It seems as if it's not changing for me as well.
Tomorrow I'm going to hook up the leads and check it with my VOM so I can see for myself.

  • MSI 6970 Lightning - artifacts issue

    Hello,
Yesterday I received my MSI 6970 Lightning and today I installed a few games to try and see how it performs.
Everything works as expected until you start stressing it with some of the newer, heavier games and/or benchmarks.
I took some pictures to show what I mean that you can view at:
    http://dev.nixit.nl/artifacts/
It's running at default speeds and I tried the latest drivers from MSI as well as the latest official AMD/ATI drivers and v12.1
Other information that may be relevant:
    motherboard: evga x58 sli
    PSU: 1000w cooler master
    ram: 12gb ocz ddr3 1600
hdds: 2x74gb raptors (heh, oldies I know), 2x750
Any ideas? I mean, I know that I can probably downclock it but come on it should run at its advertised speeds at least, right?
Is this a known issue? If any other information is required to solve this please do ask I'll be here checking for updates!
    Thanks in advance

You should read this thread and specifically regarding the switches on the back of the card. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=150708.0
These are the switches that should ONLY be operated by professional overclockers under controlled circumstances.
Mainly because these switches remove precautionary measures from graphics cards to allow them to deliver the highest levels of performance.
These switches can be found on the back and the side of the card and have several functions:
    Quote
BIOS Switch, run with the normal Lightning BIOS or a special sub-zero version
Please check this switch, i.e. the position its in. Ensure  that it is in the "Normal position".
Then the following switches are best left alone, but just check.
    Quote
    Xtreme Cool :
Removes coldbug (boot at sub-zero temperatures!) on N580GTX Lightning
Increases the AMD Powertune limit by 250% on R6970 Lightning
    Quote
    Increase Memory and GPU Voltages
    PWM clock tuning:
Increases the PWM frequency from 260 to 310 MHz on the N580GTX Lightning
Increases the PWM frequency from 300 to 350 MHz on the R6970 Lightning
    Increase PLL voltage
Remove Overcurrent Protection (warning, this WILL burn your card easily if you're not careful!)

  • Problems connecting 1 monitor and 1 TV to 2gb DDR3 AMD Radeon 7570 video card.

I recently purchased an Hp h8-1360t computer with a 2gb DDR3 AMD Radeon 7570 video card and an Hp 2711 LED monitor. I am having problems connecting both the monitor (dvi) and a 50" Sony LCD TV (hdmi) with a 50' hdmi cable. When starting the computer, once the initial Win 7 boot up is finished, the monitor screen goes blank, except for the mouse pointer. When I turn on the tv and select the correct input source a normal Win 7 screen with icons appears on the tv. Only the wallpaper picture displays on the monitor and no icons. If play a dvd movie it will only show up on the tv with the sound coming from the speakers attached to the computer.
I would like to retain control of the computer using the monitor. I tried to set the monitor up as the primary display source using the monitor configuration menu, but it won't allow me to save the dvi connection as the primary display source. The documentation that came with the computer and what I was able to find on the Hp site is lacking....to say the least.
Any assistance with this problem will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tony

First I would disconnect the TV HDMI cable from the computer.  That should return the PC screen to normal.  May have to reboot to get normal.  Then reconnect the TV HDMI and go into the screen setup routine, paying attention to which screen is supposed to display what information.

  • Any problem with AMD Radeon or FirePro graphic cards?

    Hi.
I know that Adobe recommend Nvidia cards for SpeedGrade, but I ask to owners of AMD cards if they have found any problems with AMD cards: bad performance, not realtime with relatively few layers, etc, etc
    Which is your experience?
    Thanks.

FWIW: I'm using a AMD Radeon HD 6750M (1GB RAM) on my Mac Book Pro. So far it performs fine, in some cases it even feels faster than the Quadro 4000 in my Mac Pro, but I think that has more to do with the type of projects. Mostly doing DSLR on the MBP and R3D on the Mac Pro.
