MSI ATI 4670 - No Fan Control, always at 100%

I purchased a VGA MSI R4670-2D1G/D3 HD4670 1G RTL and installed it in my computer.
However, the fan seems to run at 100% constant and I have no control over it. Any ideas or suggestions?
Symptoms:
- Fan runs constantly loud (regardless of startup in BIOS or in Vista)
- Fan never changes speed, always one constant speed.
- Can't control fan via CCC or RivaTuner
Actions taken:
- Ran live update to ensure vga BIOS is up to date
- Installed latest drivers and CCC from ATI
System:
Vista-64bit, 8gb mem, single PCIex16, Corsair 400W PSU, Asus IPIBL-LB motherboard, Q6700 processor.

we don't known that
If you gonna install 3th party cooler, get some with FAN RPM control like Zalman VF900-Cu LED:

  • MSI Z97-G45 Smart fan control Bios v2.0 vs Bios v2.3

    Hello
I have an MSI Z97-G45 Gaming motherboard in my new setup with 4ghz i7 4790k and 16gb of ram and so on that i bought a few weeks ago. At first the motherboard had v2.0 Bios and everything worked just fine but as i like maximum compatability and other fixes i upgraded the bios to the latest one v2.3.
In my setup i use the bios smart fan control for both system and CPU fan, i set it at a curve where the fans instantly will rise the fan speed when doing tests like Prime95 and Aida64. When doing the tests the fan rised from idle 800rpm to neded fanspeed for the correct cooling for my CPU and reached maximum 1500rpm in a matter of seconds to keep the CPU cool. This worked perfectly with Bios v2.0 but after i upgraded the bios to v2.3 the smart fan control changed fanspeed extremely slowly, it took almost 50sec for the fan to speed up from 800rpm to 1500rpm when stressing the CPU at 100%. When i stoped the stress test the fans slowed down to idle 800rpm very fast with bios v2.0 but with bios 2.3 i took a looong time to slow down to idle speed again from 1500rpm.
Because of the slow changing fanspeed in bios v2.3 i downgraded to v2.0 again and then my fans works just as i want them to do.
What is the reason for this problem/change in bios v2.3 and will this be fixed in future versions? Is this a known problem with newest bios?
When people will buy this MB and it has v2.3 from factory the smart fan control will not work properly and buyers will not know how good it can acctually be. I think the Smart fan control in v2.0 is super great

  • MSI GTX 980 + Afterburner Fan Controll

    Hio
i only have one simple question, will afterburner support fancontrol of both fans of the msi gtx 980 in the future??
thats the only thing preventing me to buy a msi gtx 980 because i dont want 2 seperate programms to have control of both fans... and i can only set custom fan curves for 1 fan with afterburner...
And as i heard with the msi fan control tool i can only set fixed speeds not fan curves.
the msi gtx 980 is already out now for over 6 month and still afterburner didnt support both fans... so i think it will not happend?
    best regards

on several other forums that is discussed, afterburner only controls the gpu fan the other one can be controlled with msi fan control tool.
and yea 960 and 970 didnt have seperate fan controls, they bind together.
Exactly right. MSI decided to use two controllers on the 980. AB will not change in order to control both per the programmer of AB. Tell MSI not to do this kind of thing in the future if this concerns you.

  • MSI P67A-G43 b3 Fan Control ?

    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-G43--B3-.html#/?div=Detail
    my board has - CPU x 1 / System x 4 FAN connectors
I have a CPU fan and 3 system fans connected. CPU fan is plugged into the CPU fan I/O
the 3 system, fans are plugged into #1, #2 and #3 fan ports.
so here is my dilemma. For some reason only my CPU fan and fan 1 and fan 2 or recognized. I can adjust their fan speed as i need to with no problems.
But anything i plug into port #3 or #4 is not recognized for fan control. I have swapped out which fans are plugged into all 4 system fan ports but they dont show up as even being installed when i plug them into #3 or #4. any fan i plug into the 1 or 2 spot is seen and can have speed adjusted.
Anyone know what may be causing this?

There is no monitoring or control for those fan headers, its just a power header. Most MBs only allow control for CPU and Sys #1 and # 2 at most.
If you wish to control more fans, you will need an aftermarket fan controller.

  • Re: p67a gd65 b3 CPU fan control staying at 100% ?

I hate to be reviving this thread, but it's already got evidence of my problem.
Basically, Only 2 out of the 4 PWM controllers on the motherboard (P67a-GD65) allow for fan control. This was fine originally, when I only had two fans in my case, but when I upgraded to a third and plugged it in, it simply ran at 100% speed. Multiple scans in speedfan only found the CPU control and two PWMs. Looking in the BIOS it only saw two as well, even though the third fan was plugged in and running at 100%.
My BIOS version is the one just before the ivy bridge update, so the 'improved system fan control' apparently didn't help.

    * There are only 2 PWM not 4, CPU fan & sys fan 1. The others are fan speed monitoring only and are not speed controlled.
    * Where do you get the idea that there is Ivy update for P67? The latest BIOS is 1.I:
Update CPU Micro Code for Sandy Bridge C2 CPU
The BIOS update page [http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD65.html#/?div=BIOS];[Won't let me hyperlink] shows '- Update BIOS for IvyBridge 22nm CPU.' for BIOS v4. I nabbed version 1.19 because I have an i3-2100.
The CPU fan is PWM controlled, but so are two of the SYSfans (I am able to control them through speedfan). I find it extremely hard to believe that the two other ones are for 'monitoring' only. You're telling me that they have 3 pins, two for voltage and one for monitoring, but they can't alter the voltage at all, so you'd have to put a controller between the pins and the fan? That completely erases the purpose of having the power coming from the motherboard. You could just get a fan controller that does the same thing, without having to screw around with the motherboard at all. Plus, speedfan doesn't even notice the PWM coming from either SYSFAN3 or SYSFAN4, if they are used for monitoring.
This is the motherboard you're talking about, right? SYSFAN headers in red, and CPU in green.

  • MSI Z87-GD65 gaming fan control

So i recently installed 2x 120mm noctua and 1x noctua 140mm fans in my system, they work great and i can control them no problem from the bios, but i recently noticed that my Noctua NH-D14 cpu cooler runs full speed all the time, from what i know the fans on the cooler are not pwm, but i would think you would be able to control the fans with voltage, but i cannot find anything to set that in the bios or anywhere else, is that true?

yeah i connected the fans to the LNA (low noise adapters) for now, would still like to be able to control them, but atleast the annoying sound seems to have come from the fans spinning at full speed, will have to invest in a few pwm fans soon, but thanks

    Hi,
FYI I have the same issue with my Cooler Master 520 on the same board with a 2600k, fan runs at 100% 24/7, was not able to find a solution yet, will let you know if I do.
hey you might try to install the control center and then click on the green power tab and then click on the the pop down tab saying green power again and then near the bottom of the page you will see the only three fans that you can control and the RPM they are currently running at. you need to pull down the minues and you will get three options to choose from 100%-75% or 50% but when you choose what you want them to run at be sure to double click that setting or it will just revert back to the original setting.  once you have changed all you want then click apply tab at the very bottom of that page and listen to your fans drop in speed but before you close the page you will need to save that set up so once you verify that what i mentioned worked then click the save tab too and lable it what you want to call it! this should work! but also i use a mega helm rev b and i ended up using sysfan2 and sysfan1 on the mobo for my two fans attached to my cooler just so i could control them both I and hooked up my rear fan on my case to the cpu jack on the mobo! you should have some control of all your other fans threw the click bios, this all worked great for my set up! i have a 2600k and the same mobo and i use ddr3 patriot ram 2000 9-11-9-27.....hope this works for you and answers your questions....have fun!....................................... ........... • MSI 970a-g43 CPU fan always at 100% when fast boot or MSI Fast Boot is enabled

I turned on fast boot in my motherboard in my BIOS but now whenever I boot into windows the CPU fan is always at 100%. I really like the performance gain from fast boot, however I can't stand the CPU fan always at 100%. The fan normally runs at ~1150rpm when its off but when its on it runs full blast ~2800rpm.
    My specs are:
    MSI 970a-g43
    AMD FX 6300
MSI HD 7870 OC Edition (Flashed with GOP vBios)
    2x4 8gb DDR3 g.skillz ram

I have it set to 55c smart fan control in the BIOS. With fast-boot off it works perfectly. It seems like its not lowering the fan like it normally does when its on. If I go into the BIOS and reset it it'll work fine the first time, but after that it'll do the 100% fan speed all the time.

This topic has been moved to MSI Notebook.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=138890.0

    Hi flyby99,
The VGA module on the laptop does not have a dedicated fan like a regular video card does therefore you don't see a fan control for it.
The fan is controlled by main BIOS and its speed varies depending by system temperature. There's no way to change its speed, thank you.

  • MSI P55-GD65 - Problem with automatic fan control.

    Hello.
I wish to share story of my fan speed controller.
Lately I've upgraded my machine to modern specs (look at signature) and I was quite happy about that.
It worked flawlessly for about week.
My H/W Bios settings was - CPU Smart Fan Target = 60°C and minimal fan speed 50%.
I was amazed how nicely GD65 maintained between heat and speed.
Yesterday, I've noticed that my fan is really quiet all the time, even when gaming (before it accelerate speed while hardcore gaming settings). I was quite content about that, until my computer crashed due to overheating while playing Battleforge match.
After reboot I've ran Intel BurnTest and HWmonitor. OH my, what was my surprise when I saw that fan speed is always 50% and do not speeds up when cores are heating up!
I started to checking things out. What I've discovered:
-(CPU Smart Fan ON) Fan is always at minimal speed given in BIOS. It doesn't accelerate even if CPU is burning.
-(CPU Smart Fan ON) Fan speed cannot be controlled by any program (like SpeedFan).
-(CPU Smart Fan OFF = 100% fan speed) Fan speed CAN be controlled by program like SpeedFan, which saves me from fan buzzing.
I've try to fix that by:
    -Checking cables.
    -Clearing CMOS.
    -Updating BIOS to 1.6.
    -Praying.
    And still nothing.
    My conclusion:
Fan speed cannot be change when Smart Fan is on, it locks fan speed at minimal speed given in bios.
Now I just hoping that this is somehow stock fan fault, new Zalman CNPS 10X QUIET is in delivery.

No problem here with Target 55° and Speed 37.5%.
Fan runs at 1330 below 58° and 2050 above which is max.
The CPU is running at 3050 MHz because of XMP 'overclocking'
Have reverted to BIOS version 1.3, due to XMP problems with other versions.

  • Question about fan control MSI MPower

Hi, Cosimo from Italy, sorry for my bad english.
I have a question about fan control with the MSI MPower.
The MPower site says: All 4-pin PWM fan connector Onboard
But the manual says: SYSFAN1-4 pin 4 No Use
My question is: the Control Center Fan Utility support the fan connect SYSFAN1-4 3 Pin voltage controled or 4 Pin pulse width controled or both?
    Thanks Cosimo.

  • MSI Z77 mpower fan controll

    MB: MSI Z77 MPower
In bios the auto option is avaliable only for CPUFAN and SYSFAN1 SYSFAN2. At the same time in ControlCenter it is possible to enable System Smart fan controll for each fan.
Is there any way to save selected options in Controll Center and automaticly apply them on sturtup?

    Hi
CC shows very first settings taken from BIOS. So whatever its set in BIOS, CC will show this by default. And sadly cannot be changed to be applied differently. Yet you can change settings in BIOS and you should not need to use CC for fan control.

  • MSI GT70-0NC BIOS UNLOCK Request for Fan Control

    Hello Svet,
I bought my GT70 0NC (Model MS-1762) in the first days of June 2012. Last year my Geforce 675 GTX died and since then it runs with onboard graphics. Since the GT70 runs without a GFX and its fan/cooler, the CPU fan is working full throttle which means it is very loud. I don't plan to buy a new MXM card since they are too expensive and I'd like to save my money for a future computer.
My point: I need unlocked controls of my BIOS to get my annoying main fan down to its actual (useful) rotation speed. As far as I read in these forums it is possible via setting it to onboard as main graphic card or something like that.
Please can you mod me a (maybe newer or newest) BIOS version for this problem? If possible I'd be glad if you leave some instructions what to avoid etc. with it.
BIOS Version: E1762IMS.108 (build date 03/29/2012)
    EC Version: 1762EMS1 Ver4.05 (build date 04/03/2012)
The Notebook came with pre-installed Windows 7, but today I use Windows 8.1 on a later bought SSD (the HDD with the recovery sections was built out last year).
I hope, these changings are not a problem.
After you give your go, I will send you a Donation Confirmation Code. (In case please give me further information how much etc.)
    Thanks and best regards.

yes can be done, with clarify that BIOS can't provide a FAN control [bios can't control the FAN at all]
but yes it can help your FAN to calm down to its normal operation like was originally when your nvidia card was working
