To solve this, ENABLE cool and QUIET in bios and set you settings in windows to ALWAYS ON or a DESKTOP machine. If so it will automaticaly make cool and quiet go off and when you want it again just enable portable in the settings in windows XP.
Yes, I noticed this behaviour also.  Moreover I would like to see a feature that enables you to create some kind of power profile.  A profile that says e.g: "don't minimize power until load 5 minutes less than 10". It's now all or nothing.....

  • Msi k8n neo3 cool 'n' quiet & amd a64 sempron 2800+

nice forum! I hope you guys can help me out.
    here's the deal.
I am what one would call a computer expert, but unfortunately I seem to miss something in this particular matter, unlike in other cases, which is very frustrating.
I personally own loads of MSI boards, most of which for amd64 systems, so I have experience with the drivers and utilities and I know how to get these systems up and running with cool 'n' quiet, except for this particular system. I know the cpu can't be to blame for this, since it supports cool 'n' quiet. I also have owned some other boards from other manufacturers (also amd64), so I'd like to think that I am aquainted with the technology.
    msi k8n neo3 motherboard:
    - bought this one three days ago
    - came with bios version 1.05x (!!!)
    - updated the bios to 1.5x (amongst others because of the sempron support)
    - enabled the coolnquiet feature (OC options were enabled, settings to optimized, captain etc. etc. (what I usually do)).
    - installed the drivers from the cd; the .inf driver was also installed (I saw a screen confirming that).
    - put energy management to minimalized setting
    - rebooted
and... nothing! well, except for the normal speed it should not be running on at 0% cpu load (1607 MHz).
tried installing the standard amd driver from the amd website; also nothing... I did come across this problem once before and then I had to conclude that the problem could be resolved by installing another amd a64 driver package that came from another manufacturer's motherboard cd (which should not be the problem of course, because this driver (just as the cpu) should be generic).
    configuration:
    - this board @ bios 1.5x
    - amd 2800+ sempron (latest model) + boxed cooler
    - 2x samsung ddr400 512mb (also tested it with corsair modules)
    - dvd-drive
    - couple of hard drives connected to pata/sata, no raid enabled.
    - winxp-32 us. SP2
apart from this particular problem, the system works just fine.
    who can help me out?

    Thanks for your replies guys.

Appearently only Sempron 3000+ and higher support CnQ .
Some lower models ildes down to as litte as 14W so CnQ don't make much sense in those low power models.
Also if the multiplier is locked downwards CnQ can't work (E.g can you run 7*200 , and make it stick).
Well, appearently this specific model does support it, I know this because it says so on the box... so why isn't it working then?
For the sake of the argument, what if this CPU did support CnQ, what am I doing wrong then?
What I also can't figure out is why these CPU's, according to your statement, should be doing something like 14W in idle mode, whereas these cpu's basically aren't that different from normal amd64 cpu's, except for the support of x86-AMD64 and having a larger cache ; these fully featured amd64 cpu's need something like 80-90W in stressed mode, running on their normal clock speeds and do something like 32W when in CnQ-mode. How is that possible? Because of newer generation production processes with less nm-technology or something like that?

  • Which is better : Enabling Cool'N Quiet or disabling it ?

    Hi !
I enabled the Cool'N Quiet , but the CPU-Z shows the CoreSpeed 1004.9 MHz , is that because enabling the Cool'N Quiet ? If yes , isn't it better that the CoreSpeed has high MHz ?
Any explanation plz ? because I am confused and newbie with all this thing beside I don't overclock anything .
    Thanks in Advance !

  • Cool N Quiet !!!!

Just got a deal on a K8n Neo4 Platinum SLI.
But I did not get the drivers disk.
I was able to D/L all appropriate drivers from MSI excluding the Cool'n'quiet driver.
Checked also the AMD website but all versions stipulate "Mobile Processors Only!"
Does anyone know where I can get a copy or are they willing to Email me a copy?
    Thx
    Ed

They are all there on AMD's site.
    Start here.
Choose the correct link on the right - depends if you have X2 or not.
The choose the correct processor driver. Maybe you're confused because the one you want is called "processor driver" instead of CnQ driver unless you want the Linux version.

  • Basic stuff -- BIOS version, Cool 'n' Quiet working?

    Hi,
Okay, my new PC is up and running stable in WinXP Pro. Here are some very basic noob questions:
-How exactly do I determine my BIOS version? I thought I had v. 1.0 based on the loading screen during boot up, and SoftSandra, but MSI's Live Update says I have an equal or newer version than 1.2.
-How can I tell that Cool 'n Quiet is functioning properly? In Core Center, it appears that the CPU fan speed increases under load, but it doesn't happen right away so I'm not sure. Also, the CPU fan speed slider stays in the position I put it in manually, even after I switch back to Cool 'n Quiet (maybe this is just a GUI thing).
BTW -- I installed the Hyperion 4-in-1 drivers, enabled Cool 'n Quiet in the BIOS and set Windows power management to "minimal" -- is there anything else I need to do to enable Cool 'n Quiet functionality?
Also, should I just control the CPU fan manually through a drive bay fan controller instead of through Cool 'n Quiet?
    Thanks,
    -Ross

    Hi
Glad to see we are down to minor bits and bobs.
The bios version should be at top of first post screen. use pause if its passes to quick.
BUT, live update checks what version you have, if there is a newer version it will tell you. there is a 1.33 available from MSI, but not on live update yet.
There are various threads on C & Q, I don't use it, but some who do like it, others confused by it, you have obviously read the threads. So you know more than me !!
Hyperion 4 in 1 is the best driver, if C & Q is working for you I would leave it be, the fan will speed up or slow down on temp. That will take a few secs time lag as chip heats up, or cools down. As long as CPU temp stays within norms, I would think is is working normally.
    Enjoy it

  • How to disable Cool N Quiet driver when it isnt in the bios or registry for Roxio game capture?

    1. HP G60-120 US Notebook PC
    2. Windows 7 32-bit
    3. No error messages
    4. No changes before issue occured.
I was told by Roxio (company of the capture card I bought to record gameplay on my Xbox) to call HP and get my Cool N Quiet driver disabled after I updated my other drivers and still had problems with my capture card. Can somebody tell me where to find it other than in the registry and bios because it is NOT in there and I have looked already more than 5 times or if you know where I can get it remotely disabled. HP cannot remotely disable it because I just talked to them and they don't have the power to do that.

No, Corecenter is almost useless and is NOT needed to "activate" Cool n Quiet.  The best it can do is tell you fan speed and temps, and even that is questionable.  It will also tell you clock speed but you can get that from right clicking "My Computer" choose Properties, go to General tab, note mhz displayed there.  If it is about half of full clock speed for your CPU, then CnQ is working right.  If it shows full clock speed, then CoolnQuiet is NOT working and you need to re-read Mr. Woo's original post which gives details about how to enable it.
Next, about fan speed.  You have to understand that CnQ does not have anything to do with fan speed directly. Unless you have fan speed control disabled in BIOS, then your fan is going to control as you described whether you have CnQ enabled or not. In BIOS, in the H/W Monitor section, there is a place to enable or disable fan speed control - it's called CPU Smart Temperature Monitor or something like that.
As long as it is enabled and your fan is compatible and hooked up right, the fan will ramp up and down to control temperature. This is independent of CnQ.  And it is independent of Corecenter.  Disable CnQ and shutdown CoreCenter, the mobo still controls fan speed.

  • MSI Z87-G45 Latest beta bios problem?

So i have updated to the latest beta bios but the core jumps to 5600mhz from 4500mhz.
    Everything is set like it's alway's set.(4500 core @ 1.285v 4200 uncore/ring @ 1.19v, memory on xmp profile and the inputvoltage is 1.880v)
This only happens when using firefox from what i've seen, but i haven't done testing yet so it could happen with more programs.
Firefox becomes laggy when this happens and doesn't want to load anything unless you wait 25 seconds and then it still not load's the site complete.
IE 11 doesn't do this by the way.
    My setup:
    MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
    Intel I7 4770K
    G.Skill Ripjaws X 16gb
    Sapphire R9 290
    Cooler Master Silent Pro 1000W
Edit: The clock's are just showing up that high in task manager, in XTU they stay @ 4.5.
But i still don't know why firefox is acting up with this bios.

Close this topic as i have found the problem.
It was a usb 2.0 stick in usb 3.0 port that was saving the cache for firefox.
But the stick was working very slowly in that port hence the slowdown.
    Sorry for the thread.

  • What is the latest beta bios for Msi 975x platinum PU edition mobo??

Anyone knows? And where can i get it?? Is it safe to install? I currently have the latest oficiall drivers of 7.4.

If you do not have any problems, there is not reason for you to flash to another BIOS-Version.  You are already using the latest BIOS available. The BIOS of a computer IS NOT a driver.  I am sure you know that, but since you keep calling it a driver, I want to be sure that this is clear to you.  Get your system running stable first before you start worrying about putting on another BIOS: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=103441.0 (please read!!!).
Now, if you are aware of all that, and still want to try a beta BIOS, have a look here:

    Win XP32/SP2
I am running BIOS 3.6 with C'nQ enabled and the most recent CPU (1.2.2) driver installed (downloaded from MSI and dated July 4, 2005 - file version of the AMDK8.sys is 1.2.2 (dnsrv(wmbla).050120-1444).  I have the Power Options set to 'Max Battery' w/o the drive turn off or system standby enabled.
The C'nQ function works - I can seen the CPU speed change all over the place depending on system load.  Haven't tried any cpu burning yet.
However I run Photoshop CS2 much of my workday (8:30 AM to ???) and see no problems...

  • MSI K8N Neo3 how to install cool n quiet

can any one tell me how to install cool n quiet on k8n neo3.
is core center enough to do the job of cool n quiet.
Is my board is compatible with cool n quiet
I am using AMD athlon 2800+ and k8n neo3with MSI FX5200 VGA card

Refer to page 1-9 of your manual.
Enable the feature in the bios.
Select "minimal power management" in Windows power schemes.
You don't need to install core center for it to work, it just lets you visually know it's working.  AMD also has a small utility to visuallize the CPU throttlling.
To allow the CPU fan to automatically speed up or down, enable "smart CPU fan target" in the bios.
    Hope this helps.

  • K8N Neo FSR, possible BIOS bug: setting Vcore with Cool'n Quiet enabled broken?

    Athlon 64 3400+, socket 754
    K8N Neo FSR, Pheonix-Award BIOS V1,5
    WinXP SP2
Having Cool'n Quiet disabled in BIOS setup, CPU core voltage adjustment
using 'Adjust CPU VID' below the Athlon 64 default 1,5V core voltage
    works like a charm. Fine!
But with Cool'n Quiet enabled in BIOS setup (and WinXP), under load the
CPU core voltage raises to 1,5V in any case, independently of what I did
define in BIOS setup with 'Adjust CPU VID' (e.g. 1,4V). Software tools setting
Vcore like Core Center are not running.
So I can choose to either run a silent system in idle mode with Cool'n Quiet
enabled or under heavy CPU load with Cool'n Quiet disabled but Vcore
reduced :-( Am I missing something or does it rather look like a BIOS
    bug?
    Greetings, Falo

As undervolting is not considured standard operating proceedures then how can it be considured a bug.
nor is overclocking but MSI mobo manual reads 'This motherboard is designed to support overclocking.'
So this mobo is designed for supporting at least one non standard operating procedure
Seriously, if BIOS offers a feature I suppose it to work as expected.

    Hi everybody,
I use the 3.6 bios ver and my option Cool'n'Quiet is Enable, In XP PRO SP2 I have dowlnload and installed the last drivers of AMD Athlon 64.
My fan speed is always at 3013, when I start CoreCenter (Last version of msi utility) I have no option for Cool'n'quiet.
With Google image i have seen some screen shoot with Cool'n'Quiet in CoreCenter.
What can I do, i'm feed up to listen this fan with 1% of cpu activity.

Cool'n'Quiet and fan control are separate functions.  I've got the board (see specs) and CnQ is working fine.  My core frequency and core voltage do throttle.
Fan Control isn't an AMD CnQ function.  Varying fan speed is a different function that's dependent on the motherboard's engineering.  That's done by varying the voltage to the fan headers.  I don't believe this board has that abiliity.
    Danno
Edit:  Using fans with thermistors to vary RPM can accomplish that function independent of the board.
How control the fan, i test this afternoon and anoter car K8N Platinum and when run Corecenter we can saw Cool'n'Quiet in the program and when i active in then fan speed fall at 900 in fact of 3100 ???.

Go into the BIOS and look for Smartfan or SmartFantarget, something like that.
Enable it and set the right values.
That does normally the fan controlling.
Thanks but, what are the right values ?

  • MSI K8T Neo2-FIR - Cool'n'Quiet FIX

Just turn Cool'n'Quiet off in the BIOS...that's what I did and it works now.
    Doesn't make sense...but oh well.
    Gman22

@Gman - I see now, what you meant. Another workaround: Speedfan.
@Bas: Gman referred to the bug in Core Center, where fan speed can't be controlled if CnQ is enabled.
Yes, I know that CnQ is something else than fan control.
Fan (the hardware way) control on K8T Neo2-F(IR) is fixed and can not be set by user. Actually CPU fan speed will normally be 2/3. I think that CFAN will rise to 100% if a certain temperature is reached. Although SFAN could be regulated, too, MSI apparently decided to let this on 100% speed.
So, if user wants other fan speeds, he has to rely on additional software.
Core Center is not suitable because of a bug that prevents the software from controlling fans if CnQ is enabled. On the other hand, CC doesn't seem to be designed for Windows NT 5.x, where different types of users that have different permissions are established since 1999 (Release of W2k)
