Basically, cutting out Windows Update as a possible source for a new driver forced it to use the local MSI install files.
Anyone else care to give this a try?
Now I just need to sort out the new hardware serial number nonsense key thing!

  • MSI Bluetooth & XP SP2 native bluetooth support

I am getting sick and tired of Widcomm's software stack, my bluetooth device will stop working if the computer has been on for a while, it needs frequent resets, etc.
XPSP2 has native bluetooth support. Does this work with the MSI bluetooth devices, without installing any Widcomm stuff?

Thanks to the Secunia security mailing list for this bulletin:
    Pentest Limited Security Advisory
WIDCOMM Bluetooth Connectivity Software Buffer Overflows
    Advisory Details
Title: WIDCOMM Bluetooth Connectivity Software Buffer Overflows
    Announcement date: 11 August 2004
    Advisory Reference: ptl-2004-03
    CVE Name: CAN-2004-0775
    Products: WIDCOMM Bluetooth Connectivity Software
    Vulnerability Type : Buffer Overflow
    Vendor-URL: http://www.widcomm.com
    Vendor-Status: Fixed in release 3.0
    Remotely Exploitable: Yes
    Locally Exploitable: N/A
    Advisory URL: http://www.pentest.co.uk/documents/ptl-2004-03.html
    Vulnerability Description
WIDCOMM's products provides a full range of Bluetooth connectivity
solutions for PCs, PDAs, mobile phones, headsets, digital cameras,
access points, and various output devices.
An unauthenticated remote attacker can submit various malformed service
requests via Bluetooth, triggering a buffer overflow and executing
arbitrary code on the vulnerable device.
On Windows platforms this allows arbitrary code execution under the
context of the currently logged on user account.
    Vulnerable Versions
WIDCOMM supply their Bluetooth Communications software to other
companies to allow them to integrate Bluetooth technology into their
devices. They also supply Bluetooth SDK's to enable developers to create
applications that use Bluetooth. Therefore it may not be immediately
apparent that you are using the WIDCOMM Bluetooth software and version
    numbers may vary.
    WIDCOMM's website (http://www.widcomm.com/Partners/index.asp) reports
the following companies as customers or partners with WIDCOMM:
    Logitech
    Samsung Electro-Mechanics
    Sony

Pentest Limited have tested for the reported vulnerabilities against
BTStackServer version 1.3.2.7 and 1.4.2.10  on both Windows XP and
Windows 98 which ships with MSI Bluetooth Dongles. We have also tested
this against an HP IPAQ 5450 running WinCE 3.0 with Bluetooth software
    version 1.4.1.03.
Pentest Limited have also written a proof of concept exploit for Windows
    XP.
Whilst the above platforms are the only platforms tested and confirmed
to be exploitable by Pentest Limited, discussions with the vendor lead
us to believe that are all versions prior to version BTW & BT-CE/PPC 3.0
    are affected by this vulnerability.
WIDCOMM has not confirmed whether BT-PPC/Phone Edition, BT-Smartphone,
    BTE-Mobile or BTE are vulnerable.

    versions
03-08-2004 - WIDCOMM respond. No date set for new release and no patch
will be made available for older versions.
    Fix
Until version 3 of the WIDCOMM software becomes available from WIDCOMM
or their customers/partners Pentest Limited recommend that end users
stop using the vulnerable WIDCOMM Bluetooth software or set their
Bluetooth device configuration to be non-discoverable or hidden. This
will not stop the device from being vulnerable but it may limit the
    exposure.

  • Msi bluetooth headset is bot recogizable as bluetooth device

I have bought a MSI bluetooth headset. The manual of this device claims that it should work with a SonyEricsson T610, but my GSM doesn't "see" the headset. The GSM is able to see other bluetooth (headset) devices.
I tried the headset with my laptop. The same (lack of) results. Laptop detects all bluetooth devices except the MSI headset.
Went to the dealer and got a new headset of the same mark (MSI) and model (BTHS). The laptop and the GSM still can't recognize the headset device.

schnoopay wrote:Bluez5 has removed HSP/HFP support, you would need to downgrade to bluez4 (in AUR) and use pulseaudio-bluez4 (also in AUR) in order to use your headset's microphone.
Ye, got that part already, sadly couldn't get bluez4 to work, will prob try again now
Wait, are you saying bluez5 has no more HSP/HFP at all? or just that pulse does not support it yet?
// EDIT: according to http://www.bluez.org/profiles/ HFP is supported, even if not by bluez itself

  • How to get and install the new MSI Bluetooth Software Package 1.4.3.3.

How to get and install the new MSI Bluetooth Software Package 1.4.3.3.
This little FAQ will only cover the new version of MSI Bluetooth Software Package.
First thing too do is unistall any older version of the MSI Bluetooth Software.
Do this through the Add/Remove program applet in your control panel.
There seams too be only through Live update you could get the new version of MSI Bluetooth Software Package.
If you can't see any enter for MSI Bluetooth Software in the Live driver section of Live update then you have too enter the following too your registry.
Create following code in Notepad and save it as MSILD.reg, then run the file.
    ;-->Code start
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MSI\Drivers\MSI Bluetooth Software]
    "DrvSetup"="1"
    "Version"="1.4.2.10"
    ;-->Code end
Rerun the Live update and hopefully you will now see a entry for MSI Bluetooth Software in Live driver section.
Install the new version of MSI Bluetooth Software and reboot your computer. Even if the setup program doesnt told you too doit.
After rebooting the computer you will see the Bluetooth icon in the taskbar. If it's Red then try too start the Bluetooth services by right click on the try icon and the only alternetiv there is.
If the Bluetooth services is asking for a valid licens.dat then you should do the following.
Surf to Jon's Bluetooth guide http://www.jonsguides.com./bluetooth/prepare.html and download the patcher from the link there.
Unzip the the patcher and then run the BTWPatcher.exe program.
Now the Bluetooth services will start and you will bee able too configure your own settings for the Bluetooth services.
If nothing of this work you could try the complete Bluetooth solution at Jon's gudie and install the IBM version of the same program. I havent test this solution and will not do soo.

I have the MS-6968 device and i want to use driver 1.4.x or 3.0.x. I found the driver 1.4.2.10 but i cannot find any WIDCOMMSecurity code.
So, can anyone give me a link for BTWPatcher.exe???
It cannot be found here (Jon's Bluetooth ) anymore.
    Thanks

  • Data1.cab not found when installing msi bluetooth

    Hi
I just bought an MSI bluetooth pc2pc and when I am trying to install its software on my Windows XP, it keeps on saying to me that an error occured. The error number is 1311. It says "source file not found: E:/Blue Tooth/data1.cab. Verify that the file exists and you can access it."
In this window only a retry and a cancel button appears and when I press retry, this window comes again asking for this .cab file. I cannot even search for this file somewhere else on my PC. If I press cancel it rollbacks everything leaving me with no Bluetooth software and obviously no bluetooth connection.
I also tried to change its software CD and I also changed the bluetooth device to no avvail.
IS THIS A PROBLEM ON MY WINDOWS OR A PROBLEM FROM THE INSTALLATION CD.
Please Help me cause if there is a problem with the bluetooth package I have to return it back

Just curious can you extract the file with winrar and then install. I haven't run across your particular error but that has resolved other issues for me.
    Regards,
    Tim

  • The MSI bluetooth stick?

    Hey,
I recently got myself a MSI bluetooth stick.
I just can't seem to make it work. On the CD that came with the bundle, I could only install drivers and no bluetooth icon appeared at the bottom of my screen. So I decided to visit the site to see if there was any software for download. I found this page, downloaded the drivers/software package and installed it. The bluetooth icon now does appear below in my screen, so that should be correct, right?
When I rightclick the icon and press Start Using Bluetooth, after a few seconds of silence, it gives the error: You Bluetooth Software licence does not include use with this bluetooth device. When I press OK, I have to select a license.dat file. There is only one, and that came with the software I downloaded. When I select it and press ok, I get another error.
Does anybody know what's wrong? I've downloaded the right drivers/software, but it doesn't work!
PS: I want to use this to connect to my: Motorola V525 phone.

    Try this link http://www.jonsguides.com./bluetooth/prepare.html
and try to run the patcher only after you have intsalled the driver 1.4.3....

  • MSI Bluetooth Adapter drivers

    Hello there,
I've got the MSI Bluetooth USB dongle adapter. I had some trouble to get it working, I have a question regarding the latest 1.3.2.7 drivers.
After rebooting the WinXP and after logging in, usually the BTTray.exe locks up, about in 3 cases of 10. The WXP has all the latest patches installed. I tried the dongle at other computers, my friends have the same dongle, and they have trouble with WXP as well  :(
When will be available new drivers working without any trouble?
    igorage

I have the Bluetooth module and I can communicate with my laptop using it, but when I try to connect to the Microsoft mouse or keyboard it says that I should plug in the transreciever, so I think that there is some problem with the drivers, because the MSI bluetooth is under USB devices in the Device Manager and the Microsoft Bluetooth transreciever under BlueTooth Radios

  • Is there a way to get a log of the bluetooth devices my iphone has been connected to?   My Bluetooth car speaker phone was recently stolen from my car and appears to be on Craigslist.

Is there any way to get a log of the bluetooth devices my Iphone has been connected to?  I recenly had my Bluetooth Jabra stolen from my car and now a simliar one is on Craigslist.  I'd like to give my connection log to the police before I go and see if my Iphone recognizes the device in question.  Any way to get any type of bluetooth device connection log out of my iphone?

Your contacts should still be on whatever program you sync your iphone to (i.e. Outlook, address book).
The iphone is not a stand alone device. It is designed to be synced with a computer. If you have not been syncing with a compatible program, then you are out of luck. Your contacts are not included in the back-up because it is meant to be synced with your computer.
"Although iTunes backs up most of your iPhone and iPod touch settings, downloaded applications, and other information (Contacts, calendars, notes, images in the Camera Roll), your audio, video, and photo content are not included in the backup."

    Problem Description:
Yesterday I updated my laptop's BIOS to F 5A - latest available on HP Website. Since then I have lost the bluetooth functionality, which was wroking just fine prior to the update. Now the system doesn't find a bluetooth device.
    What I have already done:
    1. Switched back to previous versions of BIOS (available on HP Website coz I didn't note the BIOS version before I updated it). - That didn't work.
    2. Reseated the wireless card - Didn't work.
    3. Manually checked the connection of bluetooth module to the motherboard - Connection was fine but it still didn't work.
    4. Uninstalled the bluetooth driver and reinstalled it (HP integrated module WIDCOM) - still didn't work
    5. Installed HP Wireless Agent - Didn't work
    6. Installed HP Integrated module driver along with HP Wireless Agent - Didn't work
    7. Installed Ubuntu to check if its recognizing the device - Even its not recognizing the device which it used to do earlier.
    8. Sadly there's no BIOS setting in Setup which I can change to correct the bluetooth behaviour (Phoenix BIOS with limited interface).
After all the research, I am posting this because I am unable to find a sloution to this problem on my own. I request the members to please help.
    Uday

I got the bluetooth working. Had to dismantle the laptop and found that a small switch was loose.

  • How do I upload the contacts from my iPhone 5S to the Bluetooth device on my Toyota RAV4.  The car manual says to consult the phone's bluetooth instruction manual, but I don't have one.

How do I upload the contacts from my iPhone 5S to the Bluetooth device on my Toyota RAV4?  The car manual says to consult the phone's Bluetooth instruction manual, but I don't have a manual for that.

That is very strange... I wonder if it has something to do with the firmware or some sort of error. I haven't ran into this but at the shop I work at I've ran into several firmware errors on iPhone 4 all the way through the 5s. Maybe its something as simple as putting a different part of the code into iTunes... I know you can something of this extent. I would look up error 1669, I know you have tried a number of things but look it up on the forum and see what fixes are available so that you may be able to restore it properly without all this garbage you are running into. Just a thought for you.

  • Why does the on-screen keyboard disappear once a Bluetooth device has been attached?

Once I've connected a bluetooth device to my ipad 2, the on-screen keyboard disappears and doesn't return until I re-start the ipad.  I've tried this with both a bluetooth keyboard, as well as with a bluetooth pedal, which will do page up, page down, right and left arrows, etc.

Reset your phone , you wont lose anything. Hold the home and off button down until the apple symbol comes up.

  • Voicemail access number deactivated bluetooth device

Using my iPhone 4, I can gain access to my voicemail by directly dialing my carrier access code (i.e. *138 in my case) through the keypad AND listen through my bluetooth device.  But when using the "Voicemail" button (leftmost docked button), I can still access my voice mailbox BUT can no longer listen through my bluebooth device.  Strange!  Is there anyway I can change the preset access code stored under the "Voicemail" button?

if it is the iPhone 4, then *5005*86*xxxxx# where xxx is the nmber you want to programme should work...

Since the iOS7.0.2 update to my iPhone 4S, I can no longer choose use of my Bluetooth device if using the power cord to listen to MUSIC or answer my phone (choice of powercord as 'dock,' speaker, & phone only).  Was this former-feature now an oversight??  I'd really appreciate having my Bluetooth once again listed as a choice of  audio option.  Especially considering the battery life is not what it was prior to this update, and requires recharging often.

Sorry to tell you but unless you have a Retail Apple Store close by, they are the only ones I have found with all the adapters and accessories. I bought an extra lightning to usb adapter the other day to use in my truck. Good luck....
