MSI board and card but.....

I can only run the card in 1x,2x mode. When I put it on 4x it frezes most times right after launch        have a K7 Master (6341) and an MSI G3 Ti200

......the funny thing is, I just bought a new MB. I got the msi kt4v. I Thought I had fried my other one so in haste I bought the new one. I have since got my old one working even better then before ( floppy was screwed up, just started working after all the other stuff I did...heh)save for the agp thing. Thats same as it was.
But, now I dont really wanna mess with takin my cpu out again. I lost 4 degrees on my cpu this last week when I reseated the HS. (I spent a lot of time making sure it was done right). And it already runs REALLY HOT> *68 to 73C*. So I really wanna figure this out.
I didnt have any games that really required more of my system but that has changed and its a bit hard to accept that I cant run an MSI GPU with an MSI MB.
They were both decent gear around the same time I purchased them, so it seems they should be compatable.
The local pro shop states *we have never heard of an MSI card not working with an MSI board*   but I didnt bother to have them check it out when it was under warranty so they would rape me if I took it to them.  NAd this post is so wordy cause Im at work and bored to death....
shall I go on?

  • What SDK for  board and card games dev?

    Hi,
I'm creating board and card games as a hobby. I used Windows
GDI in the past, but my experience is that my creativity is limited
by the difficulty in manipulating sprites, transparency and
scalable graphics. I don't care about 3D. I do care about
synchronization between audio and video events. I'm currently using
MS Visual Studio 6. Games available on shockwave.com surely use
some sort of SDK to help carry these tasks, but I don't know if
they all use the same or there are many flavors available. In
extra, I like the fact you can easily develop online versions and
play online with others. Can it support Mac? I can't spend a lot of
money and time on new development tools, but maybe there is an
Adobe product that would allow me to do exactly what I have in
mind. Can someone tell me which product would best suit my need and
    what should be my expectations.
    Thanks,
    - JP

I tried to look for clovertown processors, and they are still around 250 each plus there are different models....could you give some models of processors that will work for sure on my 1st gen mac?
    Regarding the video card:
I tried to use the diamond 1Gb, and on the 8X slot it works basically at half the speed of the x1900 (3dmark 06 gave me 4200 for the x1900 and 2250 for the 4650); so the gain is close to 0
Under macOs does not work at all; and when i tried to swap the 2 cards to boot the pc and use the 16x rail on the 4650, basically Vista decided to not recognize either card, leaving me with 1 monitor off and one on, without being able to recognize the video card.
I wonder why the PCI utility on mac does not allow to set which slot will get the 16X....the only place where the x1900 fits is slot 4, so even if the card would work fine , i would have to swap cards and connectors everytime that i wanna play in bootcamp, and this is not the best choice
Last attempt: tried with a 4870 and looks like the flashing does not always work (read trough 26 pages of a post on another site); so since i don't want to pay 350 for the apple version, i've got a 3rd party 3870 for less than 200 dollars (shame that the 4870 for pc cost the same price), that form the links that you guys gave me, seems the best choice for pro apps and games, compared to the 8800 (and the plus that under bootcamp i can get a second card and use crossfire is a huge plus, especially when the price of this card will go further down!).
Thanks everyone for giving your suggestions, and hope that this post will help other people that, like me, were trying to update their machine to a better video card

  • My MSI Board and ATI Cards

I have been looking into upgrading my Video Card and I am very much looking at one of the higher-end ATI Radeaon cards. But I also hear some complaints concerning my board and the ATI cards, with respect to the AGP slot and the whole 4x/8x issue. Can somone tell me what ATI board, if any, will work with my board with no issues?
Or am I being forced t ostay ith GeForce Boards?
I currently have the 1.80 BIOS for my board.
    Thanks

    Official statement from MSI :
KT4 Ultra was tested OK with ATI Radeon 9700 in MSI lab.
Some applications incorrectly detected the card as AGP2x. (refer to [1] knowing that this board only supports AGP4x and AGP8x). ATI addresses this issue here. Other tools like PowerStrip correctly shown AGP8x.
Detail discussions were taken place here. The current workaround is :
    * do not install or uninstall any VIA AGP drivers, including those in VIA 4-in-1 drivers.
Thanks to everyone contributed to the KT4 vs Radeon 9700 thread.
We assume Radeon 9700 Pro, 9700, 9500 Pro and 9500 should work flawlessly with KT4 Ultra as virtually no complain report against these products at the moment.
I saw this in the Forum Troubleshooting FAQ. I was Planning on getting a 9700 PRO or later card. Has anynone had any issues with that card?

  • SOS !! SOS !!Will the Alpha PAL8150T Heatsink work for the MSI board and How reliable is this board?

Aviator45 had a problem with his ALpha Pal 8150T Heatsink with his board:

I ordered the HS already and now it is starting to worry me. Maybe aviator can tell me if his install went well.
Anywaz...the MSI K8N NEO is the only board available in Toronto, Canada and I need to build my A64 system soon. Seeing so many quirks and complaints on the forum, it is beggining to scare me. Maybe some of u guys can convince me.
Finally, will this MSI board work with the Corsair XMS 2.2.2.5 RAM?
    thanks alot!

  • Problem with MSI Board and MSI Geforce 4 with Windows XP

    I have a MSI 845E Max(MS-6566E)
                  MSI Geforce 4 - 420
                  Celeron 1.7 gig
                  Soundblaster Live
                  2 Network Cards
                  and the usual stuff.
I have loaded Windows 98 on my system and it works fine. But then I load Windows XP on and the system starts rebooting. After it reboots my video resets itself and I have to load it back in. I will then reboot and sometimes it will work, sometimes it will not. I try playing a game or even searching the net for awhile, but out of the blue the system will give a very quick blue screen and reboot. And of course when it boots up the video is reset. I loaded all the drivers I could find on MSI's website and used every video driver made by Nvidia and MSI. If I do a Windows XP update to my system the computer will not even boot up. it will just keep rebooting when it is trying to bring up the login screen.  Anyone else run into this with Windows XP?

My system sometime freezes. Why ???

  • Just bought MSI R5770 and card looks different than expected

I bought this as an open Box from Fry's today.
When I opened it up, the card looks completely different than the pictures I've seen online.
The label on the back says it is a R5770 PMD1G and the serial number on the label matches the one on the box.  But the fan/heatsink combination is completely different.  The board layout (capacitors, etc) seems to be different as well
I'm especially concerned by the small size of the fan compared to what I was expecting.
Before I install it, I wanted to make sure I actually have the correct card that I paid for.  Here is a link to a pic.

She slapped a new reduced price sticker on it and assured me that they'd test it to make sure it worked.  I'm willing to bet that if I go back there in a few days, that it will be back on the shelves and still have the wrong card in the box.
I wouldn't expect anything less from them.  It was probably back on the shelf 15 minutes after you walked out.  If its worth anything, I don't buy anything open box.  The small savings isn't worth the hassle.

  • CAn I use MSI Tv-Out card with my ASUS

Asus has no optional Tv-out card or sth like that.(I'm using the ob GF2MX)
Can I use the MSI tv-out card with my Asus a7n266-vm or it is just for MSI nforces.
Here in Turkey it is 17US$+VAT.Is is high or normal?

Hi...I did a little price search on internet before, for msi`s tv-out card...Its even selling with a price of 22$ in usa...So Turkey`s price is good....But I dont have any idea about it works in asus boards or not....But My friend bought the addon card for his msi board and It doesnt have any markings like it only works in msi boards n its manual....I think ıt should be work on other nforce boards....Just a reminder...He is unhappy with the tv-out adon card...because somehow detonators detect it but doesnt lets you play with tv-out settings in advance display settings section....You got tv-out screen , nothing more....No output on start-up the computer(Post section)....Only with windows....You need programs like tv tool for tweak its settings...

  • Multiple Issues with the MSI board...

This is my first experience with the MSI board and so far its not very smooth... I have this MSI NEO 2 standard board My specs are
    P4 2.8C
256 MB (single module) DDR 400 RAM. (TWIN MOS)
    Geforce Ti4200..
    80 GB Maxtor SATA
    FAX
    CD-ROM
    WIth WINDOWS XP HOME Edition..
i have done no overclocking and the problems are..
    1. First of all it takes lot of time to show the first screen... like the vga card screen comes after 4 seconds.
    2. Some time i press the power button and when the system is detecting the hard disk and CDROM it gives error message like DRAM timings are too tight. i have check the BIOS setting and everything is normal and there is no overclocking and RAM is rated to run at 400 MHz.. although not a great brand but not a bad one either..
    3. Sometime just before loading the operating system it gives an error message that No boot sector found.. insert a Bootable floppy or CDROM.. and when i restart it start going on as usual..
So wot are the causes of these problem .. i think mainboard is the main culprit... i have scanned my system with 2 anti virus and there is no virus..
    any suggestions..?
    Thanks..

And if you have an oppinion of how the tv-out quality is with that specific card - please let me know!

I forgot to mention some details! the card should be...
    MSI G4 Ti4200-TD - AGP 4x - 128 MB DDR SDRAM
... and I allso would like to know if the card has both s-vhs, and composite output to the TV!

  • Having logic board and inverter replaced - will post results.

My MBP is afflicted with the CPU whine and the LCD whine, not to mention the "Moo". I solved the Airport not connecting automatically issue on my own.
Talked to Apple about the whines, they wanted me to take it to the local guys, which I was happy to do. I dropped it off this morning, going to pick it up after work.
They are ordering me a replacement logic board, and the inverter (at my request). I will keep my MBP until they come in and then they will swap the new parts in.
I'm guessing it won't be a short wait for the parts, but I will follow up in this thread detailing further results and noise levels.
Personally, I am very impressed with the local service response. They agreed to get the inverter at my request even after opening it up and finding the noise to all eb coming from the logic board.
I know it ***** to wait... but there is more to come. Any questions about my specific machine, etc; post and I will answer.

BrenM - Good luck with your MBP! I hope the replacement logic board and inverter resolve the issues.
As for me, my MBP has been at an Apple Authorized Service Provider in Oakville, Ontario for about a week and a half. They first ordered a replacement logic board, which came from California ... took 2 or 3 days. Unfortunately the replacement logic board did not resolve the high-pitched "whine" issue. The tech told me it is quieter, but not gone .... So on Monday he advised me that they are replacing the inverter, which is on order. They expect to receive it on Wednesday. To be honest, I don't think the inverter will address the high-pitched "whine", as I've been following this issue on here very closely. But it probably will resolve the buzz from the screen when adjusting the brightness, so that's good.
The ASP that I took my MBP to in Oakville has been great. They're really on the ball with it and I know they are doing the best they can. But what it really comes down to is ... if Apple doesn't have an issue to this high-pitched "whine", there's not much the ASP can do. I appreciate them replacing the logic board and inverter, but it's really Apple that needs to get their act in gear and resolve this once and for all. The MBP's have been out for what ... 5-6 weeks now? This has been a hot topic ever since people starting receiving their MBP's, and Apple needs to face the fact that people are not going to let this go until a solution is provided.
The ASP told me that if after replacing the inverter it is still not resolved, I'll need to put up with it until Apple resolves the issue, as there's nothing else they can do. I asked him - what if it takes Apple 2-3 months to resolve the issue? He said I can bring it right back in to have it fixed. So that's good.
The other thing I was considering is when I get my MBP back, to contact Customer Relations and put up a fuss to receive a replacement. But ... then the replacement will probably have the high-pitched "whine". I don't know what to do at this point. It sort of bothers me that my $3000 MBP is no longer pristine, as it has been serviced and received replacement parts ... what do you guys think? Should i be firm with customer relations and (politely) demand a repacement?

  • Antec Sonata 380W PS enough for MSI Neo and A64???

I'm looking at picking up the MSI board and an A64 3000 for my Antec Sonata case.
My question is that I see a lot of problems not posting as the PS is not enough.
Does anyone know whether or not the Antec 380W PS will be enough?  I will be using 2HDD, a DVD writer, a CD rom drive, and an ATI 9800 pro.
The specs on the PS are:
    +5V  35A
    -5V  .5A
    +12V  18A
    -12V  1A
    +3.3V  28A

  • MSI P6N and max memory

    Hello
I am having a problem with windows vista seeing my 4 gigs of memory. I only see 3071 gigs no matter what i do. Ive tried the bcdedit /set PAE forceenable but that didnt change anything. The bios recognizes the 4gigs just fine. THe memory is corsair XMS.
IM wondering if this board supports memory remapping and if it is even worth it to try it.
I intially was having some issues with the memory and the board  and booting but i got those fixed by flashing my bios to the latest version.

    No way!
The CPU support 2^32 bit address range.....means it can handle 4GB address-space....
However, this is NOT the same as memory space.
A lot of space is taken by BIOS-mobo, BIOS-videocard etc....
So useable memory space left is arround 3.5 tops....mostly even below.
Address space is NOT the same as usable memory!
It also doesn't eat memory, it's just the OS isn't capable of using more then 4GB space in total...
So use a 64bit OS and the sky is the limit....if you don't mind some problems with drivers and software that are not 64bit. (or very buggy)

  • Windows7 and on board 3G card

    Hello,
it seems that some new PC with Windows 7 uses on board 3G card/processor with WWAN technology, and that last VPN client do not support WWAN device yet  (VPN client 5.0.07.0290  for exemple).
Do you know when those on board card/module will be supported with CISCO VPN client  ?
Do you know how we can check thet the inboard card is using WWAN technology ?
    A  end-customer is using a new PC HP 2740P  with widows7 pro 32bits.
VPN connection does not work with the inboard     HP UN2420 Module Broadband
but it works with an USB key   Orange ICON225
    Regards,

    Hello Jabouaf,
I'm not a cisco expert, but I found what's wrong with the Cisco VPN Client with WWAN devices.
The  DNE (Deterministic Network Enhancer) version (3.22.4.17992) provided by  the Cisco VPN Client 5.X does not support WWAN devices in WIN7.
    Please find below my workaround:
    1. Uninstall the current version of Cisco VPN client software
    2. Run ftp://files.citrix.com/winfix.exe. This will clean up and remove DNE installations.
    3. Reboot computer
    4. Install the Citrix DNE updater software ftp://files.citrix.com/dneupdate.msi
    5. Install the Cisco VPN client software again
    Hope this helps

  • Ati card, msi board, kingston ram, blank screen at reboot.

i see an awful lot of listings in this forum for the problem of screen remaining blank after reboot.
i also see the psu being blamed and yet it has almost never solved the issue for people.
there is a problem and there is no solution right?
all my components are fine, they are up to 'spec' yet they dont work, why?
i am fed up with opening my pc to tweak it, reset cmos, unplug drives, check power supply. at this rate i am going to fry something. you cant keep doing these things without f'ing something up, its messing with probabilities. a half dozen times? fine. dozens? youre screwed.
there is something going on with the mb. i see others claim all boards with that chipset have issues. so what? it is still an MSI issue since i have an MSI board.
i set everything up according to instructions and i am screwed. MSI lied to me and to you.
the board does not run as it claims. i can not run a chip at its normal speed with a graphics card it should. again why? nothing is oc'd, all temps are norma, even with noting but mb, vid card and ram, its screwed.
go ahead and blame my temps, blame my psu, blame ati but at the end i have an MSI board that does not perform as sold.
i also see a lot of mention of previos bios versions working better. again seems like MSI is screwing around with us. i have so many spare parts from trying to get this board to run well that i can build another pc. it will NOT be MSI.

Same thread in the bios section already so this one is closed.

  • MSI Ultra 745 on-board Sound Card Problem

I have a MSI Ultra 745 MB (ms-6561 is stamped on the board itself) that I bought barebones, no software. I had XP running on it, but had to reload everything a few days ago. Now I cannot get the built-in sound card to work.
It is a RealTek AC97 onboard soundcard. I DL the software from the MSI site, and it seems to install fine. But when you go to the sound controls in CP, it says that no devices are installed.
Device manager shows the software installed with no conflicts.
If I try to reinstall the software again over top itself, about 2/3 of the way thru the install, it wil reboot the whole machine. This has happened several times.
If I remove and then reinstall the audio software, it installs fine with no errors and reboots normally. But still CP shows no sound device installed, and there is no speaker on the systray.
I am lost on this one, especially since it worked fine the first time.

That was my next move.  Like I said, this one baffles me.  I just can't see why it won't work.  I have installed prob 40-50 systems in my day and I have never had this kind of problem.  Thanks for the help anyway.
