MSI board with THESE features??

Hi,
Can anybody tell me if there exist a NON-OEM Motherboard with these specifications:
Socket A
m-ATX
FSB333 DDR
Firewire
LAN
>=5 USB 2.0
4 flashcard readers
The OEM MS-6716 has all these features, but hell, it's damaged!

The firewire is optional
I don't know what a card reador would be doing on a board

  • PCIe not showing Gen3 but Gen2 in MSI board with EVGA 680GTX

Hi, i was wondering, why my motherboard MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) shows (in Boot) my Graphic Card (EVGA 680GTX) to be enabled with PCIe Gen 2 and not Gen 3 (PCI Express 3.0), not even enabling the option Gen3 in the Bios.
    Thanks for your Replies...

that CPU is a i7 3820 Sandy Bridge-E CPU so it can only support PCI-E Gen 2.0 Link Speeds!
The CPU controls the PCI-E Slots as it has the PCI-E Lane controller (they moved that from the chipset to the CPU alot of years ago) so the platform is automatically choked to the link type that the CPU uses as all the lanes on PCI-E are routed directly into the CPU and that controls what they do so you are stuck at that 2.0 limitation!
the board is capable of PCI-E gen 3.0 but the CPU you have is choking it to gen 2.0 (that's not really a problem as that card is only just on the upper limit of data PCI-E 2.0 can move so its not really holding it back)!
ix 3xxx are Sandy Bridge E
ix 4xxx are Ivy Bridge E

  • Looking for a file manager with these features:

    Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a file manager that has the following features (in that order of importance):
      - Designed with keyboard users in mind (but full mouse support also)
      - Easily configurable
      - Supports copying, moving, deleting and the usual operations
      - Good search functionnality
      - Can see a lot of files at once, does not take up too much room on screen
      - Can tie certain file types to applications (ex. open .avi files with video player)
      - Nice to look at
      - [opt.] Can preview pictures (thumbnails or a preview pane)
Does such a file manager exist? What would you reccomend?
By the way, my current window manager is pekwm.
I am new to linux desktops, so this may change.

Hah, I was going to say exactly that... "keyboard users in mind? my file manager has some awesome hotkeys - like 'l' then 's' to list files, and 'c' then 'p' to copy, 'm' then 'v' to move, it goes on and on, and it has millions of 'plugins'!"
Yeah. I fell in love with linux because of the command line. But it's not always the best tool.
One advantage of graphical file managers is that they offer 'automatic ls': you always see the contents of your directory.
Also, yesterday I needed to move most files in one directory to another. They had varied names. This would have taken a long time with the command-line: I could have named the files one by one, or moved all of them and then name one by one the files that I want moved back. With a graphical file manager, I can select all files and then 'unselect' the ones I don't want to move with just a few clicks. It's faster and simpler. (Or maybe there's some really fancy CLI tool that I don't know about)
When choosing a tool for a job, first I look for the most ethical one, then the most practical one. In most cases I would say I prefer the command line, but sometimes a graphical interface is better. Computers are really good at both, so using both methods is the way I go.
I absolutely love your humour though, slackhack and phrakture. Keep it up!

  • MSI board with FM2 processor

Hats off to this OC. Impressive indeed.

Don't know how long that CPU will survive with that voltage. At least we know it survived long enough for the validation to be recorded.

    The current world-record with MSI's FM2-A85XA-G65 is even higher. It's now 7.446GHz (http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2540201)

  • Nokia Mobile With These Features

    Hello,
I am looking for mobile which will give long duration battery about 25 hours talk time which will have no camera and no multimedia feature
but it should have unlimited phonebook capacity like symbian phone and unlimited messages storing capacity and should have also computer connectivity through pc suite via bluetooth or cable screen area should be 320x240
it will be great pleasure to me and also my friend circle who demand me for the same always because every one in my contact person want this facility, i mentioned above
    Thank You
    Vivek Atale

I'm looking forward to the day that fuel cells become practical. You just need to give them some ethanol from time to time (just like me ) and you have an almost endless power supply.
Finding such a phone without a camera is going to be the hardest thing once such technology becomes widely available. You say you want computer connectivity, and that usually only comes on mid to upper range phones, all of which have at least one camera.

  • MSI working on a fix for using SB chips on p67/z86 boards with new IB BIOS?

I've got an MSI Z68A-GD80 B3, I updated to the version 20.0 BIOS which supports IB chips, but I'm currently running an i7 2600K. My machine seems to be stable with the new BIOS (better than previous BIOS versions actually), but for whatever reason when I went to the v20.0 BIOS I lost all ability to overclock. The only option which shows up in any BIOS menus is AUTO. No multiplier adjustment for the CPU, no V adjustments for anything, no RAM adjustments, etc...in fact the closest I can come is by adjust whether the RAM is running XMP profile or not. Everything else appears normal, but for all intensive purposes I've given myself an H variant board with no OC options by updating the BIOS.
So, my question is, since every other MB manufacturer seems to have figured out how to support both IB and SB chips on z68 systems why hasn't MSI? Is this support forthcoming or do I need to invest in a new MB or a new CPU just to be able to OC again?

No bashing intended, just tellling it like it is. Almost everyday, if not everyday, there are threads of users bricking boards flashing Ivy UEFI/BIOS's when an Ivy is never to be installed. Most of these are user error not reading the SOP, or not having a bootable USB stick, or whatever. Most flashing isn't even necessary unless a specific function or feature requires it. Too many are 'flash' happy for no reason at all.  MSI's goal 'may' be to develop and release a 'universal' UEFI/BIOS that works decent for Sandy or an Ivy. These 'compromises' often are not ideal. Try the last official revision xmad mentioned, or try the Beta for the (G3) I linked.

This 'question' itself is somewhat bordering on 'bashing', so I think it has been satisfactorily answered. Further comments about it are just going to head towards an argument. You have the link to MSI Technical and the (G3) Beta thread.

  • MSI Boards incompatible with 3COM 3CR990SVR97

So after retiring my KT3 Ultra2 i'm now running the KT6 Delta and i wanted to use my High End Server NIC but i have extreme bootup probs when this card is installed. Tested in KT3 U2, KT3V and KT6 Delta the System wont start or need a long time until monitor goes active and shows boot screen. But in ABIT BE6 and EPOX 8K5A2+ the NIC works properly and i have two cards and the prob remains with both of them. It would be nice if anyone who can get this NIC could test if the problem is MSI related, i can remember the time where ASUS graphicscards wont work with AGP4x on MSI Boards :D
p.s. if system is running the card works without any problems and restarts are normal but if power is cut see above :O

The prob has nothing to do with drivers.
Problem is before bios Init  all LED's on Front of the Tower are blinking and D-Bracket shows early Chipset ... then after a minute the PC resets itself and then it runs without probs. I can restart the whole system and it will run without these boot errors but if i disconnect the powercord the same procedure starts again, but the NIC works without probs i can use LAN, DSL or whatever but i don't want to wait a minute until the system does anything .
on KT6 and KT3 the same prob.
It would be great if someone were able to organize such a NIC and could test it on another MSI Board.

  • Multiple Issues with the MSI board...

This is my first experience with the MSI board and so far its not very smooth... I have this MSI NEO 2 standard board My specs are
    P4 2.8C
256 MB (single module) DDR 400 RAM. (TWIN MOS)
    Geforce Ti4200..
    80 GB Maxtor SATA
    FAX
    CD-ROM
    WIth WINDOWS XP HOME Edition..
i have done no overclocking and the problems are..
    1. First of all it takes lot of time to show the first screen... like the vga card screen comes after 4 seconds.
    2. Some time i press the power button and when the system is detecting the hard disk and CDROM it gives error message like DRAM timings are too tight. i have check the BIOS setting and everything is normal and there is no overclocking and RAM is rated to run at 400 MHz.. although not a great brand but not a bad one either..
    3. Sometime just before loading the operating system it gives an error message that No boot sector found.. insert a Bootable floppy or CDROM.. and when i restart it start going on as usual..
So wot are the causes of these problem .. i think mainboard is the main culprit... i have scanned my system with 2 anti virus and there is no virus..
    any suggestions..?
    Thanks..

For the same reason my car hasn't got in-dash satnav, leather upholstery or a six litre engine. Because that's how the manufacturer chose to make it. If you are unhappy with the specs, don't buy one.

    Hi,
I was really surprised when I PCmarked my machine, have seen scores like 4765 on a p4 3.0 prescott with one gig on an Epox board rig, 4823 from an Abit, 4829 from biostar... with less ram than I've got.

Although my PCmarkGraphics scores were tremedious. 21000... is that possible?
Any one have some scores they could share with MSI boards as a point of comparison?

  • What's wrong with Amateur features?

There some things about Album/Organiser in PS Elements that are much better than Bridge, such as the simple [and heirachical] tagging and finding. Now these features have been sneered at in these forums as being amateurish. Now since when is being easy to use amateurish? And why assume pro photographers are any good with computers, they are photographers, not geeks? Also the PSE system is far more visual in nature which is better for photographers than the far less intuitive, text heavy emphasis in Bridge.
I meet up with a bunch of pro photographers in my area on a regular basis and the thing that stuck me is that many of them do not have the time or inclination to work out how to use complex or fiddly software. They take photos and want to get prints or images to their clients with the least amount of faffing thru challenging programmes. Not so long ago I could teach someone how to take pictures on slide film to get nicely exposed and excellent quality pics in a very short time. Now the amount of very technical knowledge needed with digital imagery is getting absurd. Don't even mention colour management! And I would say for most pros they want simpler programmes not more complex programmes.
The slide show facility in PSE 4 is also way better than Bridges crappy artifacty proxies. It's like looking at a badly compressed video image with the awful blockiness. How is one meant to judge sharpness from these, oh yes I forgot you can't!

  • Strange behaviour msi 7236 with e7400

    Hello,
Is the msi-7236 supporting the e7XXX Intel c2d family ?
I've just switched from an e6400 to an e7400 and I've noticed some strange behaviours, mainly
the fact that the performances are the same with both processors ( and even a bit reduced with
    the e7400 ! ).
Another big problem is in the bios CPU configuration section: instead of 6 options + C1E hidden features
there is only 2 + the C1E hidden features. Consequence is simple: impossible to setup Intel speedstep or
    the other common options.
Additionally there is also a problem when displaying the frequency at the boot-time ( it displays 346xx MHz !)
and in cpuz, the coefficient displayed is 6 ( instead of 8 I guess for this entry level cd2 model)
As the latest msi 7236 bios is now 2 years old (v3.7), I guess this is the motherboard which is
    responsible for this weird behaviour.
So anyone can help me with theses questions ?

945P Neo3, bios is version 3.7, to be accurate, internal nomenclature is 'MS 7236 revision 2.2'.
With ChristalCPUID I've succeed into putting the coefficient @10.5 so now the performances of the e7400 are as I was expecting, but the bios is still initializing the CPU with the lowest coeff.
Advanced features (64 bits instructions, SSE4 ,speedstep etc) are still not recognized.
I've also noticed that the e7400 is not listed on the 'officially supported CPU list' motherboard webpage.
How can it work partially without system failure ?
Would it be possible that 45nm are supported by this (old) MotherBoard even if it's not clearly specified by MSI ?

  • Ati card, msi board, kingston ram, blank screen at reboot.

i see an awful lot of listings in this forum for the problem of screen remaining blank after reboot.
i also see the psu being blamed and yet it has almost never solved the issue for people.
there is a problem and there is no solution right?
all my components are fine, they are up to 'spec' yet they dont work, why?
i am fed up with opening my pc to tweak it, reset cmos, unplug drives, check power supply. at this rate i am going to fry something. you cant keep doing these things without f'ing something up, its messing with probabilities. a half dozen times? fine. dozens? youre screwed.
there is something going on with the mb. i see others claim all boards with that chipset have issues. so what? it is still an MSI issue since i have an MSI board.
i set everything up according to instructions and i am screwed. MSI lied to me and to you.
the board does not run as it claims. i can not run a chip at its normal speed with a graphics card it should. again why? nothing is oc'd, all temps are norma, even with noting but mb, vid card and ram, its screwed.
go ahead and blame my temps, blame my psu, blame ati but at the end i have an MSI board that does not perform as sold.
i also see a lot of mention of previos bios versions working better. again seems like MSI is screwing around with us. i have so many spare parts from trying to get this board to run well that i can build another pc. it will NOT be MSI.

Same thread in the bios section already so this one is closed.

  • RoHS (lead free) in MSI boards

Does anybody know for sure, if new MSI boards are being manufactured using standard SnPb solder, or only with the lead free one?
Since MSI claims that their motherboards use Military Grade III components (i.e. highly reliable), they should use the SnPb solder as the most reliable solution too.
(Military devices have an exception from the RoHS directive)
I just bought the ZH77A-G43 board, so I wonder if it lasts at least for 5-10 years.

The conventional Sn60/Pb40 and Sn63/Pb37 solders are not used by any hardware manufacturer for a long time ago.
It's not only about the WEEE/RoHS directives.
It's more about melting points and oxidation.
But don't waste your time with all of these.
In our local "museum" we have this mainboard: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/815-Pro.html
It's 12 years old, it doesn't understand the "Military Class" concept, but it's still working just fine !!!
