MSI CD Burner

I run on Win 2k.
Windows recognizes MSI CD-Burner as a regular CD-Rom instead of a CD burner.
What shall I do?
I tried installing new drivers from the net through update driver button.
The driver files on this site doesn't work either because it runs on Dos mode only.
How can I fix this problem?
The burner currently functions only as a Cd-Rom not a Writer.

  • MSI 8404A Burn problems

Hello happy people of the MSI forum,
I bought a Dual DVDRW/R (the 8404A) recently for my PC. It is able to read and burn CDs, and read DVDs. HOWEVER, everytime i try to burn a DVD (using DVDRW discs, on the slowest speed availible, 1 speed i believe) it appears to work.
If i then try to open or play the files on the burnt DVD all i get is the folder not responding and my PC sits there not responding.
If any further details are required please say, this is confusing me somewhat.
(I have taken it back to the shop i bought it from, and when they checked it, it worked. I have the feeling i'm missing a driver or piece of firmware)

I've been able to figure out that i need to upgrade my firmware from 2.17 which seems to have DVD burning issues.
I have downloaded the 260.bin version of the firmware, however when i boot into real dos and try to launch the upgrade, it tells me it cannot open the 260.bin (this is inside the MSI upgrade firmware process)
Anyhelp on fixing the .bin or getting a different one?

  • MSI P55A-GD65 sound low

    Hi all,
My sound is very low. I use the mainboard MSI P55A-GD65 and here are some screens from my settings.
PS: I have the new Realtek HD Audio driver.

    HI
I might have a work around. read on..>
I just built one of these mobos. Being I am new to W7 and this mobo. I installed the drivers on the disc with mobo, mostly to see where w7 puts the files and where add and delete programs and such things are. But the disc installed r2.49 I think it is. It sounds pretty bad. Weak more a high and  amp sound but with no base at all. Rock my normal settings for all my abit mobos and xp pro using realtek hd had more base or richness. FX do not seem to work right with the sound on this mobo. I think it is drivers and not the mobo. I used msi lu4 to check and see what it might do. It said I needed bios 1.4 I did not even know it is a 1.4 from the mobo page it shows the latest as 1.3. My mobo has 1.3 bios out of the box. I am not going to change it. My system seems to run fine.
But I had already downloaded all drivers and bios from msi and burned to disc before I started my build. I upgraded my sound drivers from what I down loaded from msi and my mobos page. I deleted old drivers rebooted and installed what I got from the msi site, they are r2.50 drivers. My sound is better. But still not right. It is like it is stuck in bathroom or hall FX or something. But I think I found a work around and my sound is more normal, and my games sound more normal.
** I hate it but, drivers can be confusing. I am using r2.50- r250. This is what it shows from control panel.. I wish I could look in any place on my computer and all drivers are named the same exact. Like now, It whould be nice to look for sound drivers and they are listed as r250 and nothing else. All of the other listings or names make it confusing. I know It is a windows thing, something.. Ha ha..>
But from the zip I downloaded from msi. I did not unzip it. Double click on the sound zip. It comes to where you can click to unzip it.. Do not do that- do not unzip it- or yet anyway.. Double click on the zip again. It will show you the files in the zip, to read them etc, before you unzip it. The read me says r2.50 so. When ready to unzip and install the drivers, after you have deleted other sound drivers and have reboot. Unzip the sound zip, put it where you can find it.
To install. Double click the setup application file. It is normally the largest setup file in the folder. If you have On/ show all hidden file and extensions, it may show as setup.exe or something like that. I normally have show hidden files off. Mine shows as [setup application ] and is a 69kb size file, if I remember right..>
** I am using a 100w/ 50w per channel- 3way, shelf stereo and shows as 2 speaker set up. I use a mini into my mobo back io sound using the green connection. The mini is rca on the other end and rca from it to rca into my stereo. I set my stereo to aux in, it is my amp etc. And I can change the stereo to radio or use its cd player or cassettes. But I normally use it for pc sound. It is pretty easy to set up etc. I might try my logitech z5300e speakers on here but they are thx speakers. I am not sure they will sound right..
You can turn on off [ virtual surround ]. I have it on..>
** On the sounds fx page. I have environments turned off. I would normally use living room settings. I turned off loudness eq. It seems to give it a amp sound but with no base. I used the eq preset powerful as my base settings to start from. Like in the photos. I would normally use rock setting and for all other players and for video playback what ever. I always set them to rock eq settings. Not this time tho..
    Set eq preset to powerful..>
** Using eq setting powerful as my starting point, I upped all the sliders a little. but mostly the mid sliders or off to the left which would be base end. The mid sliders give it more wide sound and base ties it all in. I might up these settings a lil more. You could experiment some too. Save your profiles. Maybe have some mp3's playing or a video where you can hear changes as you make them. But if you play with the settings. Give it more base or richness all sounds pretty good then. All my music and games sound a lot better now. And You may need to change some settings in your players, to dial in your sound. But that is normal with any new build.. But I use jetaudio with added sound pack etc. I use jet just to play back my mp3's etc. Tho it can be a main system player. It only plays pls playlist files now. I use gom as my main player and divx net player to watch movies online. I always set defaults and eq settings to rock etc. And jet its eq to rock setting. It has maybe the best music playback on the planet. And can make crap speakers sound better. And has its own added dsp controls to add wide or extra base what ever. I do tweak those settings a lil. It all sounds pretty nice now.. Just I have my realtek hd control panel defaults set up different than I normally would.
My new slider settings using powerful as my starting point..>
Seems to help me a lot.. Make sure you have at least r2.50 drivers. That is what I am using. I do not know if it is any more new. But that does not mean they are any better or better than the r2.50 I am using now, so..
I have noticed the connector on my msi mobo sound. The green out is not as tight a fit as on all my abit mobos. When first installed. I heard a lil feed back from my speakers. I thought I had volume controls set wrong- to high etc. I checked the connection. just moved it a lil bit. All the feed back went away. Some folks say they can hear cracking and popping sometimes what ever. It could just be a bad connection. Not tight. As said, this connection was more tight on my abit mobos. But does not mean the msi stuff is not high quality or anything like that. It is just something I noticed and corrected the feed back over my speakers..
I hope this helps ya some. I hope for better driver for us both, on these p55a-gd65 mobos. I think it is driver related and they suck.. And is not the first time reading about poor drivers.
1 more thing I remember about my hd realtek abit mobo sound and using xp pro. It was a setting in the control panel, not in plain view. Im not using my fatality now, but it was a button for stereo on/off if I remember right. If that was not set to stereo ON [default it was off- I think], It would always have a odd sound to it, a lot like we are having now. It is no stereo setting in my w7 realtek hd control panel. The only thing showing stereo is my speaker set up being 2 speakers. But I can not find an actual setting for stereo, like is in my hd control center using xp.. I do not know if it means anything. But generally the control panels are the same, other than no setting for stereo.. And everything seems washed out or something. A bathroom fx maybe..
    Happy Holidays to all..

  • When will MSI put out firmware that recognizes media properly?

i just got a replacement drive from MSI.
It is a CR52-A2 and I just updated the firmware to 180D.
The drive will not recognize  my CD-R's at their proper speed.
The 52x media it insists is 32x.
    Same with the 48x media.
I put an LG 52x drive in the same machine and it recognized the media at the correct speeds, so this a FIRMWARE PROBLEM with the CDRW.
I had the same problem with the old MSI drive, but I hoped that a year later
they would be able to figure this out.
I will never by an MSI CDRW again.

    Which hardware?
My computer? or the MSI CDRW?
The 8348 that I used to have only recognized one blank as being 48x times
and that was the blank that came with the drive.
All others, because of serious deficiencies in the firmware, it recognized as being much slower.
Same thing with my MSI 52x burner.
During the several months I waited for my replacement MSI CDRW,
I bought an LG 52x burner.
It recognizes the correct speed of media, including numerous brands of 48x 52x and all speed media.
It will burn blank media at the correct speed including up to 52x.
So since my computer with Nero software can correctly burn 52x CD's with my LG burner, It must be the MSI drive that is the problem.
BTW, look at the latest firmware revision
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=410&kind=5
    Release new F/W version 180D
    1. Improve high-speed CD-R/RW medium compatibility
WHAT DO YOU SUPPOSE THIS MEANS?????
It means that they know that the previous firmware didn't recognize media properly.
    And guess what???
    IT STILL DOESN"T!!!!
    BTW,
looking back at my original post from 05.09.2002 01:36
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=3402&sid=
    32x is a definite improvement.
my MS-8348B only wrote at 16x.
The same disks in the current drive write at 32x in the MSI drive.
IN the LG drive at their rated speed.

  • CR52-A2 Slow Burning!

    Hi all
I've recently bought a CR52-A2 cdr drive for my computer. I have a P4 1500 Mhz, 256 Mb RAM. My problem is that it burns only at 16x!!!
I've tried updating the software (nero, clonecd, cdrwin...) and all programs say it can only burn at 16x, and the Nero Burning Test reveals a max speed of 16x also. The only problem I think it might be is the DMA mode activation... could that be it?? I cannot activate DMA Mode in the IDE configuration, it just isn't available. How can I get it to work?
    Thanks

    Can you try this?
Run the most recent version of Nero.
Make sure that it does not have a blank in the drive.
Create anything at all to burn, with any file larger or small, it doesn't matter.
Go to Write CD and click on the Burn Tab
    and look at what the
Write Speed is for the drive with no disk in the drive.
Picture is from my Acer 48x burner
With my original MSI 48x burner this would show 48x,
with the CR52-A2 replacement drive, this would show 52x
If Nero shows 52x, then your drive speed is being correctly recognized by Nero.
Now put a piece of blank 52x Media in the drive.
If the number changes, your drive's firmware is not recognizing the media
    correctly.
My MSI CR48-A (MS-8348A) before I upgraded the firmware,
would switch to 16x no matter what media I put in the drive.
The ONLY exception was the 48x CDRW that came with drive.
After the upgrade, it believed everything was 32x.
The replacement CR52-A2  only recognizes disks at 32x.
Nero is already to write the disk at 52x, but I put in media,
and the speed drops to 32x.
The drive came with F/W version 160 I think and I flashed it to 180D but
it did not make a difference.
    So,
    once again,
if the drive speed changes when you insert a disk your firmware has a problem.
You need to find a different brand of disks.
I have yet to find any source of disks that will burn at full speed on MSI drives.

  • MSI GT683R Turbo mode???

Hi I just got a msi gt 683r all the drivers are installed and all the lights of the buttons are working but the turbo doesnt seem to make any difference in frames or performance in any game,i checked through fraps but got no fps increase in any game, the benchmark that came with the notebook however shows only a difference of 18 points with the trubo mode on and no frames difference. Is there a problem with my notebook???

check CPU Freq. [when its underload] with CPU-Z
Well i tried MSI afterburner along with intel turbo boost technology,i cud not find the frequency in cpu-z,however i noticed that in msi after burner while playing the game (bf3) it gave me a clock of (shader clock 1550) and (core clock 770) when i press the turbo it goes to 1627 and 813 respectively so i guess it is overclocking however the cpu remains constant at 2.60GHz so after these results i think everything is fine....I was expecting to get a drastic change while overclockingby TDE. I assume that the TDE pushes the vga card to its maximum limit, while without TDE enabled the game uses as much resource it wants to use...am I right?
I guess there is nothing to worry about??

I have been constantly atleast once a week been suffering from these blank white screens while using my PC not necessarily playing games. It even gets into this screen while browsing some sites. I have to forcefully restart the system using the restart button everytime this happens.

  • Msi n460gtx hawk voltages???

hello! i need some help with my msi n460gtx hawk. i overclocked this vga and for unknown reasons my voltages to the core/memory/aux stays the same as before at the default clocks(780/1560/1800). now i'm running at 900/1800/2100 mhz, everything stable(msi kombustor burn-in and a lot of games) and those voltage values: +70mv core/+50mv memory/+20mv auxiliar. idle voltage is 0,875v and load is 1,012v same at default clocks and the overclocking. i guess it must show me some increase in voltage, since i pushed forward those values in afterburner,but...everything looks unchanged! i saw others users having some increase in core voltage, when they overclock and tweaking voltages, but is not my case! i don't know what is happening. really,at the voltages i applied it should stay at 0,890-0.900v idle and 1,050v or above in loading... but my hawk looks like i never touched the voltage sliders! i checked those values with gpu-z and aida 64 extreme edition and both show me the same results. i don't have stability issues for the moment, but i guess it will comes some day if my vga don't work with some extra power applied at those frequencys... i have msi afterburner 2.1 installed. i just tried with afterburner 2.0 and the results are the same... i tried 1.6 and i cannot unlock voltage with it... i use an amd phenom II X4 955 clocked at 3,6ghz,mobo gigabyte 890fxa-ud5 and 4 gb ram ddr3 1333mhz dual ch. please someone tell me if is something wrong with my card or i missed something when i overclocked it? thank you very much for your advices!

Quote from:  by Unwinder developer of Afterburner to a similar Question in Afterburner support forum
That's supposed to be that way, you WILL NOT be able to monitor voltage changes with any software tool reading voltages via NVIDIA driver.
Hawk uses additional voltage controller chip which is adding programmable voltage offset to output voltage of reference NVIDIA voltage control circuit.
None of tools you've mentioned support that additional chip and just show you expected target voltage (which doesn't match real value in case of adding an offset via that additional chip).
Furthermore, that additional chip itself also doesn't support voltage readings, it doesn't even know which voltage is on its' input, it is rather simple IC which just trying to modify the input value by specified offset.
That is why there is no (and there will not be in future, I've seen rumors that I'm working on getting voltage monitoring working on Hawks and I say that's not true) voltage monitoring for Hawks when alternate voltage controller circuit is in use.
The best thing that can be done to see some form of expected voltage is approximating the output by displaying summ of NVIDIA reference voltage with additional offset, but that's by far not the best solution because both components (reference circuit and additional offset circuit) add its own inaccuracy.

  • Msi gtx 970 4G low fps

    Hello,
    Been struggling with this for about a week now. I took the offer on the Far Cry 4. I upgraded my card from a GTX 660ti single card. I have played FC 3 on the old card with no difficulties. I have loaded the newest drivers and upgraded my BIOS. I have Bench marked the card  on 3DMark and Unigene. I am getting very low readings and not even reaching 30 fps. When I play Far Cry 4 I barely get 12 fps. I am not sure if I have done something incorrectly here via the installation or I have a faulty card. My setup is as follows;
    i7 - 3770k @3.50 GHz 4 core
    16 GB of RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
    BIOS American Megatrends Inc 2014
Any insight here would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Dave,
I have the same card as you this is what ive found to be my best setttings. There by no means a fix just helps.
1 uninstall the driver suite using DDU in safe mode .
    2 download drivers 344.11.
3 install ONLY 344.11 not the package install what you need later down the line.
4 go in the bios and see if you can enable x.m.p in your ram  also when your there check pci is on next gen 3 .
5 back in windows go to nvidia control panel and set ( this is the best one for  me ) change down from the native resolution to one lower that works for you . eg i use a Sony bravia native is 1080p 1920x1080 iv'e changed to 1080p 1600x900
6 go to manager 3d settings
max  pre rendered frames  use 3d
multi display single display use performance mode
    power management prefer maximum performance
    vertical sync use 3d application
virtual reality pre rendered frames  1
msi after burner overclock  your gpu
    core voltage  +20
    power limit  max
    clock core  +200
    memory clock +250
    fan speed auto
In game  set  all  graphic settings to  max (for some strange reason you don't see any fps improvement if you set them to low )
turn v sync on  in all games or cap fps
use fraps software  to monitor your fps
    my games
Bf4 multi player  in use bf4 settings editor to cap my fps at 60  . have micro stuttering but is  is 95% 60 fps every where
cod blop2 frame in game caped at 45  very  little problem
    crysis   totally unplayable
    far cry 3  working ok
    just cause 2 good
batman arkham just started playing seams OK
    Hope it works for you

  • Msi gtx 970 Fans Randomly Turning On When Idling???

So basically I have had my msi gtx 970 for a couple weeks and the fans seem to behave as normal? Now once when I was idling I noticed the fans spin up and immediately spin down straight away. So basically now every 30 seconds the fans will spin up and spin straight back down which is weird. The temps are fine and I have checked this using MSi Afterburner. The fans I'm pretty sure are meant to stay off under 65 which it is so why are the fans spinning up. I don't seem to notice it noise wise but I don't know what it is happening. When I check the Fan % in Msi After Burner it doesn't log the fan ramping up but the 'fan tachometer, RPM' section shows it going up and back down, I will link a picture of this. I will link you the youtube video which I highly reccomend watching for a better idea of what's happening. I show you it spin up once and back down then a waiting period and then it doing it again.

Is this the problem? I don't know. But it does not seem to be set correctly IMO.
As you can see below the fans with the OEM bios are never actually set to 0 rpm. When they are off they are actually being told to spin at 1% power at 23 rpm.
    I have changed mine.
The fans no longer randomly spin with the new drivers. And I have not had any more problems with one fan not spinning up ( although its too early to declare victory on that problem ).
My fans now start up at 50c and even when overclocked to 1503MHZ I have not gone over 65c at 68% fan speed.
Went ahead and copied your settings and everything seems to be working as it should  now. Thanks
    **EDIT**
Just tested it by getting gpu up to 50c and it seems to work. After it drops below 50 it takes a bit for the red fan to spin back down (stayed around 44% for a good 3-5 mins). After the red fan dropped to 0% the black fan slowly dropped down to 29% and that's where it is sitting right now. I think this is per design though since I remember my gpu doing this even on .16. The cooldown process or something I guess.
And at the end of this post black fan is back down to 0%. Good call on the problem looks like it's fixed .

  • K Boost on MSI Afterburner

    hi guys,
So, as the title says, is there any equivalent as K Boost that comes with EVGA Precision with MSI After Burner??
Well to explain i always used MSI Afterburner with all of my VGA but when i bought a EVGA VGA i tried EVGA precision and i don't like it very much and switched again to MSI Afterburner and the i realize that it has not the K-Boost option to keep my VGA always Overclocked and that pissed me off because crysis 2 don't get up to the boost speed so i switched again to EVGA precision but i don't really like it, so now i read on a forum that MSI Afterburner now will come with RivaTuner RTSS 6.0 and i watn that, so anyone could help me with this to move again to MSI Afterburner
    Thanks!

The lower advertised boost clock is just the minimal boost gpu will achieve under load. As the gpu can boost more if possible it will clock the highest stable possible in current power and thermal situation. 1228Mhz seems to be the (very cool) boost clock it can run in your system so be happy with it.

  • VIA Raid 0: Red screen of Death - fatal error during boot sequence

I have been using two Maxtor 120GB SATA drives in a RAID 0 array on my Athlon 64 MSI MB.  I have occasionally had messages saying "Hard disk error. Can't find drive 0".  I've assumed that this has been a driver issue because if I power down, wait a while I can reboot and continue without issue (other than chkdsk running during boot up).  However after the last such error, when I next tried to reboot I got an error message as the RAID was initialising.  The error message was in a red box on a black screen and stated that there was a fatal error and that the raid relationship and all HHD would be destroyed if I continued.  Naturally I switched off at this point, but on rebooting got exactly the same message.  Eventually, as I have backups, I continued past this point and sure enough the RAID had gone.  So I rebuilt the raid array and everything seems to be OK.
However, I'd forgotten that my MSI DVD burner was incapacitated due to a failed firmware update so had temporaril;y replace it with a DVD rom drive to get access to my backups.  BUT the drive won't read all my backup discs, in particular it won't read the Drive C backups .
Has anyone else had this RAID erro.  Is it a driver error or is it a dsik failing (even though they were new at Christmas).
I am using a Superflower power supply which has 22A on the 12V rail
    1GB PC3200 ram by A-Data (CAS 2.5)
    Elderly HP 9100 CDRW
    MSI DR-8 DVD RW
    Ethernet card
    Radeon 9600 128MB
    AMD64 3000 processor
    Freeflow

Raids do not really help benchmarks unless you considure hard drive benchmarks. Most games and benchmark proggies load everything they need prior to running. So unless you have a low memory condition that forces the game or benchmark to use the swap file the only place that you would typically see any gain in speed is during the loading of the game or benchmark. That is hard to quantify other than through experience.
Where a raid shines is in file tranfer situations. When you create and save large files such as movies, Reading or copying large files, defragging, or any other massive file effort. Overall the gains can be very small compaired to the rest of what you do with your system. However that is not to belittle what a Raid does. It does give a finer sheen to the overall computers operations and will make sluggish file transfers seem much more bearable overall.
