MSI chirps still a problem!!!
One year later I still have the cricket like sounds coming from my MSI K7N2-l computer with a AMD 2100 chip. I used to get real mad at this thing and swear I would never buy another MSI board but now that I look back at one year of never having any other problems and using a computer that never crashes, I now feel very lucky to have bought this MSI board. My older Gateway with a AMD 1000 crashes 5 times a day and is finally being replaced by another AMD 2000 this week which I am having built as a bare bones kit by someone else. Knowing the constant never ending problems We've had with that computer, I now have more respect for this MSI board. The chirping will continue forever I suppose and I will never know what it means but who cares??? It is a minor inconvenience compared to having nothing but trouble like so many others have with their computers. One thing I have to mention is that I never defrag my computer and my wife is always doing that to the Gateway and she is always cutting CD's on Rhapsody and I will not allow any games or music on my computer. That I believe, is one reason why I am getting super performance from my computer. I do simple spreadsheets and lots of letters and mostly web surfing but never download anything from the internet.
do you use the 4pin jpw1 connector ?
it provides extra power to the cpu but it has been known to cause problems for some people.
noise from the motherboard.
several people have reported that the noise disappears with some bios and comes with some bios.

Hi, I have the MSI P67A-G45 (B3) motherboard and I'm still having problems with it (as from day one).
1) I still seem to have some problems with stability with the USB. I updated the drivers for the Renesas USB to the latest (2.1.39.0) from the station-drivers website,
I was thinking of grabbing the firmware update as well. But I wasn't sure if I should. The page also shows firmware updates for uPD720200 & uPD720200a, and I'm not sure which one is in my motherboard. Should I update? If so, which one is in my MB, uPD720200 or uPD720200a?
2) I'm also having trouble updating the Intel ME Driver and the Intel INF Update (although I'm googled that the INF update doesn't really matter).
3) I can't seem to get the firewire port working with my WD Home 2TB external HDD (it works through USB though).
4) I have an old internal flash card (SDHC/MS/MMC/etc.) reader from another desktop that I wanted to add to my MSI one. Is it possible to do so? Where would I plug it in?
5) Is there anything else I need to update: software or firmware? I've generally updated the stuff listed in the Live Update (except for the stuff I never installed).

I have a Core i5-2500k Sandybridge processor. Is there a point to me updating the BIOS & Management Engine to the latest? The support page for my MB says don't bother unless I have an Ivybridge processor?

I'm on my very first build and I'm running into problems. When I power up, all the fans spin up properly and the D-Link LED's go through the usual settings but it gets stuck on the combination that the manual translates into "Initializing Floppy Drive Controller - This will initializing Floppy Drive and controller." The D-Link LED's just hang there and I've left it alone for a couple minutes and it still wouldn't budge. On the screen, sometimes I can see the POST message and other times I see nothing at all on the screen from the various times I've restarted the computer. Any idea why it's hanging on this certain combination and not booting me to the BIOS setup screens? These are my system specs...thanks:

Hi!
First, the problem is I made this computer for a friend and when I boot the computer it always freeze at startup. I hear the normal bip when you start the computer then I see the first screen where it says to hit del to enter SETUP but it freeze there. I can't even go into BIOS. I have 2x512 MB in dual channel and when I remove one I can usually be able to go into the bios, then once there I check if everything is there by default ( I already reset cmos ) and it looks good then I reboot and it freeze again. I really don't know what to do...
But I will tell you the whole story. First I get the computer and at first boot I get no video signal. I see that I forgot to put the spacer between MoBo and the case. Then I fix that, comp boot I go into bios. I made another error by setting the FSB speed at 400 mhz because I read that it was going at 400 (I forgot that it was 200 x 2) so I reboot and I get nothing. I reset the cmos by pressing the button then i can get into bios.
From there I changed the boot order and I make it so MSI doesn't show his logo when you boot but you get the POST instead. I exit and save then I start getting that problem... Since then I am not able to go into BIOS unless I play with the memory module. Another thing is when I can't get into BIOS I watch the 4 LEDs on the USB thing you add to the MoBo (definition here http://www.msicomputer.com/support/sup_tshoot.asp#1_3 scroll down a bit). When I can't get into BIOS I get a combination (1 and 3 red) saying "testing base and Extended Memory, Testing base memory from 240k to 640K and extended memory above 1MB using various patterns" and when I changed the memory and I get into the bios (2 red) I get " Initializing Floppy Drive Controller, This will initialize Floppy Drive and controller". I got that from the book that came with the board.

I will add that I tested the ram on another computer and it works fine. Also, when I only have 1 module of ram installed he start to detect the ide drive and sata HD but when It get to the floppy it fail. From there I can go in the bios but when I restart he won't even start detecting stuff he will only freeze after he wrote the memory testing line and then I can't do nothing... or I can hit continue and it even got started with the windows xp install but it crashed, it didn't take long. Reboot and crash at verifying DMI pool data or something like that after I hit continue again after detect floppy fail.
I tried resetting the cmos then reboot and it said that my config was in overcloaking mode and to reset it on the bios... But there was nothing to change. Also tried to continue there but it stop at Verifying DMI Pool Data.
The bios installed by default is v 1.3, which is the only version there's not on the msi website... strange
Anyway I pretty much said all I could, hope someone could help but I have a feeling that the MoBo as problem...

hmm......try takin out all of thec computer parts out of the computer case and this time only reseat the following devices: case, motherboard, cpu, ram, and videocard.
also try replacing the floppy cable and see if the computer will be able to detect the floppy this time. good luck

Welcome to TSF:
two items for consideration
A) what is your power supply and specs / this is by FAR the most underated overlooked component that plays such a vital role / the generics PSU just plain cant cut the mustard / they rely on cheap price to lure sales not performance / it doesnt take much of a fluctuation in power to send the newer systems baulking.
B) download and run memtest86.com on your memory modules / sounds like you may have a trouble maker there. Test them one at a time first / then as a pair
please post back with your findings

Hi,
An Antec is a great power supply, but frankly, don't think a 350 of anything is big enough to handle what you have. Even an Antec, you probably would need a minimum of a 450 to 480 with a very strong amperage rating. Antec and Enermax is where good power supplies are made if the wattage is what you need. That is the first place I would look after the memory thing is checked.

So... I made the test with the ram with this computer and the ram seems to have no problem at all.
So I guess I should try with a better power supply? But even a 350W with only the motherboard, cpu/fan, ram and video card would still not be enough to run it? Because I still have problem while running only that... Before I go out and buy a good power supply I would like to make sure it could be the source of the problem.
BTW, thank you all for the help so far, I hope we can find the problem :(

Hi,
If you have a Best Buy nearby, go find a good power supply and if it is not the problem, take it back or return it. That way, it would not be an expensive venture that might not solve the problem. Just be careful how you deal with the packaging so you can return it if it does not help. That sounds like the best solution at this time.

If I start the computer I can usually go all the way and start windows installation but it will stop working right after I hit enter to actually start windows installation. If I reset it will always hang at the beginning and unable to even get into the BIOS...
If I put the ram in dual channel setting it won't even start on first startup. But if it's on single channel it will at least let me go to the bios and such (but never recognized the floppy). Dual channel take more juice to run?
With this in mind is it possible that the mobo and/or cpu still be the cause of the problem?
Anyway I think I will try to get a power supply of at least 450W to test it. Just for testing purpose, can I get any power supply even if it's not antec or enermax as long as it has high voltage? I can test it and if it's working I can always return it and go buy a real power supply from antec or enermax where there is one.

I dont think it is your power supply, the power supply you have should handle what you have got no problem, the problem will be your memory...... are the 2 memory sticks you have identical, ie: same manufacturer, same speed, same chips on the board..... to run in dual channel mode you need both sticks to be exactly identical otherwise you will have problems.
What brand is the memory, if it is a cheap brand then you may have compatibilty problems.
Have you run memtest86 when both sticks are inserted but not in dual channel mode?

Before you go out and get another power supply, you need to make sure you have everything hooked up correctly.
Try flipping the floppy cable over and see if the BIOS recognizes it. That is a common mistake that all of us make from time to time. The red stripe (pin 1) goes toward the power plug on that one and it is opposite as a rule from the other ribbon cables, because the normal power plug on the hard drives have the power plug on the opposite side.
Second, tell us exactly what drives you have and how you have them hooked up...here is an example: Maxtor 30 gig IDE, set as master, on the end of the ribbon cable, and connected to IDE #1.
Third, the memory thing does seem to be an issue. Is the memory that you have listed on the QVL list in the motherboard manual?
For now, for testing purposes, just leave one stick of Ram in the board, and do follow the instructions in the manual about where that single stick should be. As an example, some boards require that when you use a single stick, that it is in Dimm2, Dimm3, or even Dimm4 instead of Dimm 1. That feature is new to some who don't regularly build, so please check that out before you go too far.
Let us know these things and we will try to get right back to you.

It will only go in the way I put it. Other thing is the power supply is an ATX with 20 pin. My manual says it should work but it also says that I could use a 24 pin SSI power supply but never use those. Again I am sure the power supply is in correctly cause I couldn't plug it any other way anyway.

Maxtor 160 gig connected on sata 1 and there doesn't seem to ba master/slave option. Is it because it's SATA? It also seems to be detected as IDE THIRD Master on the first page.

Manual says it should be in a green slot first which is dimm 1 and 3. I put it in dimm 1 ans it should be fine. The setup like it is now, is in the combination list in the manual.

I've only run test with the ram installed separately...
I also bought my ram as dual channel so I got a kit from Kingston KVR. So they should be identical to each other. Kingston is in the list of supported memory on MSI webpage of the motherboard...

One thing I notice is when I boot the ram is showed to go at 201 mhz instead of 200. Not sure if it says something...

but first:
go into your bios and relaxe the timings on your ram, maybe 3-4-4-8
pump the voltage up on the ram a notch,to maybe 2.7 or 2.8

If I put Timing mode in manual instead of auto I can change a bunch of thing. I have no idea what you mean by 3-4-4-8... There is something in that called CAS# latency (Tcl) which is by default at 2.5 but could change it to 2.0 or 3.0. Is that the voltage?

I guess I am to a point to check the cpu on another socket 939 MoBo to see if it's the cpu or the MoBo the problem. With everything we tried I start to doubt it could be anything else. -
I recently bought a P6N SLI and new memory since my current board is getting old
When I got everything assembled and turned it on, all fans and lights started, but there were no beeps and no video
I made sure all power connectors were not loose and tried it with minimum components out of my case, still same problem
tried old memory in case new memory was faulty, no luck
I'm sure all old components are working (using them right now)
sent board in for RMA in case I got a bad board, new one did same thing
since the board didnt come with a D-Bracket, I threw one together (4 LEDs on the red pins, ground on USB) all 4 lit up "System PowerON The D-LED will hang here if the processor is damaged or not installed properly"I am attaching a link to MSI's CPU support page..you can also get there by going to the top of the forum page, to the right of the MSI banner are all the links you need..handy. I would think, that any P4 series or any Core 2 Series CPU would be supported from the initial bios release. The "D" series are a bit out of the mainstream, but are supported once bios is updated. If you have a decent computer repair store, they should be able to pop in a P4 or C2D CPU to get it into bios and flash it. Hey, here's a thought...the Core 2 Duo chips are relatively inexpensive now..you can get a Core 2 Duo E4500 for about $125 US that will run circles around your D805...? Good luck.

MSI 7900GTO NVIDIA SENTINEL problems
Ive borrowed a 7900GTO and worked great for about 2 weeks and bang outta the blue started displaying "Nvidia Sentinel insufficient power" warnings and then cripples card to less than a 6800gt would perform.
Ive messaged MSI via there webnotes thing and as of yet got 0 response, on bench marking with 3dmark03 i get 1000 points less than my old P4 6800gt rig got im pretty sure voltages are stable but need a way to test under load.
Reading other forums by other manufacturers they say its a bios problem on there cards and released updates, there such a bios for this card?

Just recieved my RMA'd BFG 7900GT OC, so ive just tested exact same setup 580w hiper with my new card.
resulted in 6000 more marks in 3dmark03 (as it should be) and no sentinel bollx. reckon this GTO cards a dud tbh.
arnt these cards GTX's with poor memory so underclocked and called GTO instead, and BF2 maxed has proven to be too much for this bad memory? or something is "tripped/switch/activated" as a precaution and aint reseting?

ive read thousand of posts on various sentinel warning and even small generators powering there cards dont get rid of the problem.
still need advice as this is my mates card the MSI GTO, webnotes on the msi site still no reply neither been a week
oh is there no bioses for this card? as the update util finds 0 and website has 0? just wondering if re-flash card it may RESET something thats causing this.

Hi, I still have problems reinstalling Final Cut Pro even though I followed these steps.
Reason why I have to reinstall is because I have repaired my Macbook Pro hard drive at a Mac Authorized Repair.
Short history of repair and my Final Cut Pro installation:
1. Macbook Pro stopped working, sendt it for repair. Had the Final Cut Pro installed,
2. Desided to try a MiniMac and recovered my backup with Time Machine, got the Final Cut Pro working.
3. Got my Macbook Pro back from repair, did backup on this one as well. But this time only the files not the Applications.
4. Removed the files as mentioned in HT5149. Didn´t find "com.apple.motionapp.plist" to remove though, but the others I found.
5. When I try to install Final Cut Pro from App Store, it downloads the application as planned. But after download it won´t show in the Application folder nor in the downloads folder, nor will it start an installation prosess. If I pause the installation in App Store, I can see the Final Cut Pro icon in my Dock. (But, as mentioned, after installation it won´t show neither here or in the Applications folder).
Any suggestions on what I should try now?
Thanks for any reply, I´m in deep water here...Sounds like there is a file you're not getting. Never do a removal manually. It's so time consuming and a pain. There's a very easy and fast way to do this, safely, properly.
Get the free "Final Cut Remover" app from Digital Rebellion (dot com), use this to remove FCP X.
Reboot the Mac.
Download from scratch.
If you're not seeing FCP X in your app folder, run Disk Utility to Repair all drives.
If that doesn't help, try running Disk Warrior from Altsoft to repair the directories on all drives. -
I have apple iPhone 4S upgraded to iOS 6.0.1 and everything was working fine suddenly my Wifi was not connecting and found the wifi on/off button is greyed out and to enable it I tried all resets but still my problem have not solved, still wifi is off
Same here.... No fix. Replacing is the option apparently and if you're out of warranty, you're SOL. That was as per the "Genius" at Apple.

It worked for me and my "user" site (don't know how to say my site) and still having problems with my wife's. Was it purchased from an official Apple Store, not a reseller? Only Apple Stores sell official factory unlocked phones. The others sell hacked to unlock phones, and the unlocking is unstable.
Try these steps, as needed:
1. Reset phone - press both home and on/off buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
3. Replace SIM card (and reset network settings again)
4. Restore Phone in iTunes using a backup
5. Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup -

I'm frustrated, I am doing everything you recommend, I use only two channels, have plenty of memory in my hard disk, and external hard drive, no effects, and still having problems with Garage band. Giving messages as you ave too many live channels, the disk is slow prepare...can you help?

When opening any page associated with Google (main search page, gmail, google maps, etc) the font is so tiny it is unreadable. Any other website is fine and this only happens with Mozilla. I just downloaded 3.6.12 and it's still a problem.

I am still having problems with my music videos freezing (all purchased on iTunes) since the update. The first day of the update, no problems...played 6 hours of music videos and no freezing. Today...every single video froze!!! So frustrating! I rebooted, restarted, powered down and no help. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

As for question #2, you call tell how iTunes is sorting songs by the up or down arrow next to a header name.
Even the original order that the songs were entered or date added or last played can be sorted.
Much easier with a mouse or touch pad. -
I am trying to register my Appliances and when I try to click on "Save" or "Submit" I am unable on my MacBook pro. I have tried different browsers yet still same problem. Can anyone shed some light on this please.
Thanks for that 'sberman' - because my iPhone is backed-up to my work computer (only at this stage) I have had to call our IT Department in Adleaide. (4 times this morning). The last guy managed to get the phone into 'DFU Mode' - no more recovery mode screen - (kind of 'asleep' perhaps) from my understanding of same. I am awaiting a call again from IT so they can get my computer to actually recognise my iPhone on the C Drive. This also happened to one of my colleagues in Newman (WA). She got so frustrated with the whole process that she bought another phone the next time she was in 'civilisation.' She hasn't had any problems since. (Cross fingers).
