MSI CR52-A2 speed limitation

At DAO-RAW and DAO/96 this drive tops at 16x. Since at all other modes tops at 52x there is clearly a speed limitation. I've contacted MSI and they told they are trying to solve the problem. In the meantime I found out that Optorite makes burners for the MSI. they are identical. Some people have used optorites firmware and they work just fine. Has anyone here used a optorite's firmware? And if yes, at what speed can u write at DAO-RAW (clonecd)?
Thanks in advance

do u mind if I ask where did u get that info from?
Anyway, I don't know if they release a firmware that fixes that problem. I can only assume how stupid are people at MSI releasing a product which has this problem in the "most wanted" write mode all over the world. Unless they did that on purpose.
And of course I am not excluding myself from being stupid because I "didn't do my homework" before I buy this cd recorder.I should have known better.
And boy that msi support. I am in contact with them for over a month about this "DAO-RAW" problem and they keep doing stupid questions to me. These people over there really need some computer education. We are talking about THE most f*cking amateurs all over the world.

  • 2009 Macbook issue: download speed limitation

    Hi
Mi wife got a late 2009 white macbook that's driving me crazy. Despite we got a 7Mbit ADSL connection and all others macs at home (we got 2 more 2008 macbooks and a 2008 macbook pro) with the very same OS version (10.6.4) and network settings are working properly and downloading at full speed, her one looks to have some kind of speed limitation in download to around 1.5 Mbps.
The ping and upload speeds are the very same of other computers, and apparently randomly the download speed also on that computer gets back to around 7 Mbps...
I just spent the afternoon doing tests and I got nowhere but maybe I found a pattern...
    First what I excluded:
-doesn't depend on how it's hooked to the net, same behavior by ethernet or wifi in both cases the other service was off
-any other mac using the same connection is working properly, did side by side tests
-ping is always the same on both computers used for test
-it is not a DNS issue
-deleted and created a new position in Network panel
    -did several restarts, no solution
-doesn't depend on a specific app being used (but maybe apps can matter, see below)
-none of possible fixes I found online did work
-probably it isn't related to OS version or updates, this issue has likely been there since a lot of time, and over more os updates (not really sure of this, we had unrelated netwok issues and changed provider for that reason in last year, we cot a stable and uniform environment just recently)
    Now what I noticed:
-As soon as the computer is started and I open a single browser (be it Safari, Chrome or Firefox doesn't change) speedtest.net test is ok, 7Mbps download.
-work and navigate with it, it's ok, download speed remains 7Mbps
-As soon another internet using application is opened (Mail, another browser) the connection speed drops to 1.5 Mbps (this is ALWAYS the limit, no relevant fluctuation in this)
-If I close any of above apps and remain with a single browser, running tests initially report still the 1.5 limit, but shortly after (one or two minutes) the speed gets back to 7Mbps
My wife needs to work with Mail, Skype, and at least two browsers open, so this limit is giving her great troubles

This doesn't really help narrow down the problem
    {quote}
doh, you are right... sorry... the possible fixes I had found around are the ones reported right before...
Create a new user account on the problem computer and see if the slow speeds and strange behaviour persists in it.
    I did, it does...
    - created a new user and logged in
    - opened Safari, speedtest returns 7Mbit/s in download
    - opened Firefox, after a little speed drops to 1.4
    - some successive test starts slow (1.4) then sometimes speeds up, but most remain at 1.4
    - start chrome too, same behaviour
    - close Safari and Firefox, wait a little (1 or 2 minutes) do the test with Chrome, back to 7Mbit/s
Then go through stuff like this http://www.gballard.net/macrant/osx_troubleshooting.html.
I went through it and did most of what's suggested there (it's a little complex because when I am not working my wife is usually using her macbook to study and needs to use it all the time)...
    - unused disk space is 95,6 GB
    - booted in single user mode and did a fsck -fy
    - repaired permissions
Nothing changed, both the behavior takes place in new user account, and in main one, where any internet using application (Mail, Skype...) opened together causes the download slow down...

  • What is sync speed limited by?

Assuming my line is all ok, what is sync speed limited by?
The reason i ask is im told my exchange and line is rated for 2 meg (which i was syncing at around 2.5), on sppedtest was getting 2 meg download...so all is looking well...but then randomly one saturday (about 2 weeks ago) i changed over a filter and disconnected the extension wiring, reset the home hub and synced at 3.9 meg, with a nice SNR of 5.9db. Obviously i was well impressed as my speed went up!
Why was this sync different? As im yet to get anywhere near that again?

It's essentially governed by the characteristics of the line. Even if the line is OK, it'll still have properties that could limit the possible speed to an extent. eg lines all attenuate the signal, even good lines.
There are other factors, "hard" caps for example can be imposed by the hardware, possibly due to the service you're buying. An "up to 8Mbps" service will never go faster than that, even if the line is capable.

Not really relevant to your question, but...while your line may well be "rated for 2 meg" the exchange will be capable of more than that. If you get anything less, it's due to one of the reasons above.

On the face of it, it sounds as though either the filter or the extension wiring is causing some noise/interference on the line, which was slowing things down.
If this behaviour is consistent and repeatable, it should be fairly easy to find and eliminate the cause, which may give a very worthwhile improvement to your speed.

  • I need help with MSI CR52-A2 52x24x52x CDRW Drive

    Hi,
I am running Windows XP Home Edition.  My MSI CR52-A2 52x24x52x CDRW Drive will not work.  When I restart my computer the light on it flashes red, green, red, green, red, green, etc...  When XP is running, if I click on the drive under "My Computer" it opens up the drive but no files are found.  If I try to add new hardware, I'm told that the drive is working properly.  When I try to burn a CD with Windows Media Player I'm told no CD Burner is found on my system.  Please help!  Does this have to do with the BIOS?

    Welcome to the forum superaverage.
    1) Before posting any problems related to your optical drive, please post full system specs AND PSU rails (look at my signature).
    2) Tell us how do you have your drive setup (Master, Slave, in primary channel or secondary channel).
    Edyros!
The recommended setup for ANY CD-R/W or DVD-R/W is to set them in the secondary channel as secondary master (assuming that your primary master is your HDD).
If you're using nero as your burning program, try downloading the latest ASPI drivers for windows XP.
Try flashing your drive's firmware to support more media and to fix minor bugs.
ALWAYS use an 80-conductor IDE cable for ANY drive.

  • MSI CR52-M failure

    I bought an MSI CR52-M cd-writer.
After installing MSI CR52-M i installed nero burning rom 5 wich was bundeld with the cd-writer .
After restarting my computer i launched nero and saw that it did not reconize the MSI CR52-M as a recorder.
I have tried multiple other burning programs but none seem to see the MSI CR52-M as a writer they just see it as a cd-rom drive. like nero does.
It seems to function perfectly as a cd-rom but not as a cd-writer.
In the contol panel under system it says that it is a cd-rom drive. Is this normal ? I use windows me. In the manual it says that windows me will automaticly detect and install the correct driver and that there is no need to install a driver.
I saw the firmware update on the msi site but therefore you need to be able the restart in dos witch isnt possible in windows me. and would that help ?
Is there something i can do to resolve this problem ?

Try the registry checker over at http://www.ahead.de , and also get the latest nero update while your there.
If there is another drive on the IDE cable woth the writer try the write on it's own.

  • Update maps when roads and speed limits change

Is there any way to update the maps frequently to get the latest changes to speed cameras, speed limits, road changes etc? Or do you have to reload the map every now and then? I had a TomTom before and every time I connected it to the computer there was several updates installed. I have a N97 btw.
    Former owner of E90, N97 x2, E72, N8 and current owner of E7.

The best way to update your maps regularly is to delete all maps and then redownload the ones you need using Nokia Map Loader. Maps could be updated up to 4 times a year.

The same problem. May be firmware fault. I think, you can exchange drive to some other model (SONY, for example), because 4x media speed support officially allowed, so you can exchange it, if 4x CDRW media support are important for you. May be MSI fix it in future versions of firmware? If so, you can wait some while. CR52-M excellent drive, but media support is very important thing too.

  • MSI CR52-A2 Firmware upgraded ( MR!!! and better media support )

Here is a solution for many people's problems with slow burning CR52-A2
    Thanks to clarkkent57
    I found this -
    http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=15157&highlight=msi
which suggests the CR52-A2 is the same drive as the optorite CW5205.
    http://www.optorite.com/firmware.htm  is the firmware page.
I just finished flashing my drive with the following.
    CW5205(52x24x52) 190E017_cw5205.zip 2003.9.2
My New Optorite CW5205 has Mt. Rainer support.
It also recognizes all brands of media at the correct speed.
For the very first time, in more than a year of owning MSI 48x or 52x CDRW,
I was able to burn a CD at more than 32x.
It burned a CD at 52x without any problems.
Personally I don't recommend that anyone update firmware unless absolutely necessary.
Updating Firmware with a different companies firmware's is generally a BIG no no.
It worked for me, and has worked for other people, but you take a risk of making your hardware into a paperweight.
OPTORITE managed to updated their drives FOUR MONTHS AGO!
Why hasn't MSI updated their firmware?
    BTW,
Optorite also has an even new version  210e017.zip dated 2003.12.26
190E worked for me so I didn't bother trying the newer version.

Old thread but thought those with the drive might be interested.
I just flashed 210E017 and worked for me as well. Seems quicker in all operations.
    Sweeet!

  • MSI R5770 @ core speed of 1031mhz & mem speed of 5648mhz

Just got a new toy to play with MSI R5770 What I really like the most out of this card is the DX11 capability, 40nm GPU Chip (runs really cool even at high clocks), Overclockability and most of all "Performance over the Price". A video card which is not that too expensive but has a big headroom for performance.
After buying the video card. I benched it and overclocked it right away, hehehe. No mercy for the VC and pushing it to the limits. From a stock core speed of 850mhz and memory speed of 4800mhz. I was able to overclock it to  1031mhz core speed and memory to 5648mhz This was all on air and no extra fans or whatsoever.
Below was my system configuration for the short quick test

  • Is Wi Fi speed limited by old iMac and old Airport Express?

I got my sister an Apple TV for Christmas. Download times for movies or TV rentals is really slow.
She has Time Warner Road Runner Cable modem at their standard speed (not upgraded to "Turbo". My question is whether a new Airport Express or Extreme running at 802.11n would either speed up downloads or transfers from her newer MacBook to the Apple TV.
I guess my question is whether the desktop - an old Power PC and it's old Airport Card hinder the performance of either the rental or purchase downloads or connectivity between her MacBook, Apple TV & iPad. When I visit, I also get a pretty weak signal from the den in the back of the house to the family room up front. Could the "n" upgrade improve on any of these limitations? Not sure if the slow main computer is part of the problem.
Sorry I don't have more details on the internet speed or specifics on the system.

I guess my question is whether the desktop - an old Power PC and it's old Airport Card hinder the performance of either the rental or purchase downloads or connectivity between her MacBook, Apple TV & iPad.
Yes, the do. When you have non-"n" wireless clients on an "n" network, there will be bandwidth performance degradation anytime those non-"n" clients are active on the network. Typically, "n" clients only get around 70% of maximum bandwidth when non-"n" clients (computers, printers, Internet-ready TVs, or routers) are connected.
When I visit, I also get a pretty weak signal from the den in the back of the house to the family room up front. Could the "n" upgrade improve on any of these limitations?
Possibly. The newer "n" AirPorts do provide better range than the older models. Regardless, this will would only have minimum improvement over download speed. It should; however, improve streaming speed between the MacBook/iPad and the Apple TV.

  • 6D shutter speed limitation

    Dear all,
I am a new member but in the same time an old Canon owner.
I am thinking of an upgrade and these days I've read and watched some reviews, pro and cons, etc about Canon products and specially the battle between 5D Mk2 vs.6D.
Now, depending of how anyone will use the 6D camera there are some good but also some weak points.
At this moment for me this is the main reason that keeps me insecure in buying the 6D .
I really found this as a joke because my old 350D have 1/4000 max shutter speed and on the other hand 7D and even 60Da,  60D (all these below a full frame camera) have higher value (1/8000 max shutter speed).
Helping me to choose the right product , I just wanted to know if  this is a truly hardware shutter limitation or there will be a firmare update in the future in order to unlock the higher value .
In my humble opinion after so many years of research and development , you simply can't downgrade a product in order to fit in the market unless there are no reliable technical explanations .
It will be great if we all new potential buyers will receive a positive answer from a Canon Product manager for example because if you do some ggl search you'll find this a commonly discussed subject about the 6D.
    Thank you,

... you cannot compare the 6d to aps-c because the larger full-frame shutter has to move a larger distance, that's also the reason why the cheaper 60d and so on have 1/250s x-sync and even the 5d3 only has 1/200s (1dx 1/250s, though that is an embarrassment because the competition is better and the original 1d managed 1/500 x-sync and 1/16000 shutter).
Though concerning the 6d I guess the spec limitations are motivated by marketing and keeping the 5d3 on top, thus at least a higher x-sync might very well be enabled by firmware if Canon would want to.

  • MSI Afterburner Fan speed?

i have a MSI Radeon HD 5970 g.c. and i recently adjusted fan speed to cool off to about 35 degrees C when pc starts.
to do this i raised fan speed to about 60%.
normally, the fan comes on and while progressively cooling my g.c. it cycles down to a lower fan speed.
just recently though, the fan has stopped cycling down after startup or during gameplay that causes lots of heat, cycling up to account for the heat.
i have MSI afterburner v2.0.0 with latest graphics drivers and what not(im pretty sure, as of feb. 4,2011)
is this a common problem or is there something simple i can do to fix?

Try downloading Afterburner 2.1.0 Beta 7 here and see if that changes anything.
The one you have is older and known to have issues.
    Edit:
Here's a quote with from the changes they made:
    Quote
Fan control settings are now being forcibly reapplied after changing the clocks via unofficial overclocking path to bypass bug in AMD driver causin the fan control settings to be reset to defaults after programming PowerPlay table
So that might be the problem you have.
    Good luck

  • MSI 7900GT memory speed?

Is the MSI 7900GT using the nVidia reference spec's. I'd like to confirm the memory speed because when I check the memory speeds on MSI's website, it says
    • 450MHz core clock speed
    • 660MHz 256MB GDDR3 memory
    See this link. http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=NX7900GT-T2D256E&class=vga
However, the nVidia 7900GT reference board is suppose to be 1.32GHZ memory speed. Why is the MSI version of the 7900GT slower memory speed? Or am I reading this wrong. Or does the MSI website have a typo mistake on their website. Please reply to this because if this video card has slower memory than the reference design, then I should purchase a different brand name.
