MSI CX61 BIOS/brightness problem

My CX61-0NF laptop came with bios version E16GBIMS.406 and on the MSI site I saw that the latest version was E16GBIMS.902, so I went ahead and flashed the bios with the latest version. Everything was working fine before the update so I know it was pretty stupid of me to update even if I didn't have any problems. After the update, I thought everything was working good but turns out the brightness adjustment(FN+up/down) only works when inside the BIOS environment and stops working when the OS(windows 8) starts loading, adjusting via windows settings also doesn't work. I've already done a clean install on a clean hard drive so I know its not a driver/software problem. I even tried an Ubuntu Live CD I had but still no go.
I managed to find an older BIOS version(older that the one it had originally), E16GBIMS.400, flashing to that version restored the the brightness adjustment but it killed the nVidia GT 645M gpu(not detected by driver, gpu-z reports core/mem as 0mhz).
So now I'm back to the 902 with no brightness adjustment.
Anyone ever encountered something like this?
I've been trying to find where I can download my original bios version but hours with google got me nowhere.

  • MSI CX61 0NF | Bluetooth Problem | SCM Related

Hi. I bought this laptop recently, used good. I am very satisfied except for the issue I'm having. I have reinstalled everything from scratch, downloaded all the driver it needs. I had WiFi glitch with the old driver on the download section of the MSI site, but with the driver from Intel, it works now properly. This laptop is running Windows 8.1 Enterprise 6.3.9600 Build 9600 (updates automatically).
    BIOS Version/Date      American Megatrends Inc. E16GBIMS.406, 10/10/2012
    SMBIOS Version         2.7
    Embedded Controller Version   255.255
The bluetooth (Intel Centrino Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 + High Speed Adapter
with BT_3.1.1311_e164 Driver) won't turn ON when the SCM 10.013.06287 is installed (10.212.11060 has .Net Framework problem). It keeps it turned OFF for split second. Without SCM install, it works but the ECO Tech (Fn-F5)m webcam (Fn-F6) and laptop monitor switch won't work.
I have seen solution like EC Reset (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=112416.0) but it didn't work, reflashing EC Firmware and BIOS are something I need to know if that's the problem...
    Any solution to this?

Which WLAN adapter do you have?
Try to install the SCM version 10.013.03016:

    If you have WLAN adapter, Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 135 and Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230, try to install the driver version 3.1.1309_8164:

  • Msi p45 bios OC problem msi7512 1.6

    Hi,
Try to overclock my old pc in order to get a little bit extra out of it. From the moment I change the FSB just a very little (like one step up) and I push f10 to save, the pc crashes. when booting, no settings have been stored and he just boots in normal mode.
I have managed to overclock with the dual core overclock software of Msi that came with the motherboard without crashes.
Does anyone know why it keeps crashing when in bios? , or does someone knows some software to nicely overclock my board? Im not looking for super overclock, just up to 3.2 Gigz.
    Thanks in advance,
    My build
msi p45 platinum (7512 v1.6), updated to latest bios.
CPU: q9400, running standaard 2.6 mhz. - scynthe Ninja cooler
    Memory:2x 2gig  mushkin- 5-5-5-15. xps-8500 (1067mhz)
    GPU: Saphire 6870.

That is probably one of the best boards that MSI ever made.
To unleash the overclocking monster in that board, you have to flash to the v1.7 beta BIOS releases. Jack used up to 1.7b4 and I used the 1.7b10 to great effect.
You can read the thread here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=117741.0  reply #328 contains the beta BIOS A7512IMS.17A.rar
The beta thread will also provide you with a lot of useful information.
OC Memory related issues are the most common problem with these boards. A
Once you have the beta BIOS, you may find that you can set the OC jumper on the board so that the board boots at 400. At that frequency you ensure that your mem is set to run at 800, i.e. always ensure your mem ratio is set to 1:1. From there you start to OC further if you see the need. Forget the OC software.
This used to be my 24/7 OC with EIST and C-State Enabled.
    FSB 450
With my Q9550 that gave me 3825MHz. You may have to adjust your CPU multi or you may want to run your CPU at max multi and rather reduce your FSB speed. You need to test which works best for you.
    DRAM ratio 1:1
    CPU V 1.3325
    DRAM V 1.956
    MCH V 1.352
    VTT FSB V 1.35
The rest on Auto. This may or may not work for you, but its a starting point and you may just find that you could achieve similar results with lower voltages. Test, test and more test. But I stress again, with BIOS 1.6 this board would not run past a FSB of 420. With the beta I had it stable up to 500.
Here is a thread that may be useful as it contains the steps another user went through to OC this board  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=140858.0
Would a moderator please move this thread to the overclock part of the forum.

  • MSI MSI DKA790GX Bios update problem

Recently set up a MSI MSI DKA790GX system with a new X4 940. Thing is it appears the bios is 1.2 which seems pretty old at this point. I've been trying to update to the latest bios (1.6 ?) but I can't. Live Update tells me there is a check-sum error. I assume the issue is with the 1.6 bios. I tried using the HQ USB Flashing Tool method and I got the same error. SO I got to assume that something is wrong with the bios file.
Has anyone else tried to update this board with the latest bios? Any luck.
This is annoying as I want to update the bios as I'm several revisions back and I want my new processor to be FULLY recognized.
    TIA

Is it possible to unlock the bios for this laptop, either to enable FSB or Ram overclocking and/or timings adjustment? Is CPU overclocking possible at all?

    FSB no

Don't know, the only chance eventually will be by increasing CPU Multuiplier,

Also the platform on this NB is not intended for OC

Hello. Recently it was necessary to disconnect some functions for the processor, but bios is blocked on many functions. Any lite-version. You couldn't send me full bios? MSI CX61 0ND(WIN7 64 bit laptop). On a site I didn't find bios necessary to me. Thanks in advance!

  • MSI CX61 issue - blank screen, amber power button. Help appreciated.

    Good evening,
I have an issue with my MSI CX61. If anyone can help I'll be very grateful.
The notebook is unmodified it has all the original hardware straight from the box.
The issue is that the MSI, when turned on, seems to access the hard drive for a second before the blue led that indicates hard drive access stops blinking. The MSI doesn't even reach the logo. It is completely unusable, there is nothing on screen, at present I cannot access bios.
The battery led to show the notebook is charging starts off blue and then turns orange.
The power button is persistently Amber.
    What I have attempted:
I have attempted to run the computer directly off the battery, battery taken out, and the problem persists.
I have connected my laptop, via HDMI cable, to a TV while turning the notebook on; the TV stays blank but appears to receive a signal
The harddrive is working while attached to another laptop, it can access all my data.
If this is important the last thing I did was install steam. The problem started when my computer cut out. No warning, it still had battery also.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
    Jharris

Ok hi, it seems like you might have the windows black screen error and its because of faulty windows updates, it usually occurs on windows 8 systems but might occur on others too. What i suggest is to set it back in time before you installed steam and now you can do this by pressing f8 or f9 or shift f8 or shift f9 or f10 or f11 when starting your laptop.
Try the different keys just spam click it really while restarting or booting cold your laptop and test all the keys im 100% sure one of them should work or maybe its another key but u should come to windows recovery options and from there u choose reset. Try it and tell me if it worked thanks!

  • MSI G33M-FI 7357 Problems...

    Hi.
I recently bought this board... In the reviews I read a lot of interesting including OC to 475 FSB....
But I have a lot of pbms.
    With combination:
    g33m-fi bios 1.3
    ddr2 kingmax 1066 2*2gb kit
    CPU C2D e6400
    HDD SATA WD SCORPIO WD800BEVS-08RS
I can't get post. Screen became stripped and stuck. MB setting to 1066 mem. I think without pulling voltages....
Also when I tried ddr800 module it boot ok but I haven't all memory dividers in settings.
Very poor OC with 200 and 266 CPUs... I'm dissapointed. Looks like test's was specially paid to get more customers for bad MB....
Could you provide me good bios with normal functionality such like TRD (Performance Level) manual setup + memory strap and divider setup?
Can I flash G33 platinum board bios in my MB?
It's recently updated not like for g33m....

In the reviews I read a lot of interesting including OC to 475 FSB....
Well, this is a budget board which is not really a good choice for overclocking.  Please provide links to those reviews, because did not find any that talk about that kind of clock speed.

Can you provide a link to the product side for these modules and/or the exact model number?
    Quote
MB setting to 1066 mem. I think without pulling voltages....
Well, if those modules need more than 1.8V+/-0.1V, to be able to handle DDR2-1066, they are not real DDR2-1066 modules, but factory overclocked DDR2-800 modules.  And of course, the BIOS will not automatically raise the voltage above Industry Standard.
In addition to that:  The G33 Chipset does not natively support DDR2-1066 modules, but DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 only (check the official Intel Specifications).
    Quote
Looks like test's was specially paid to get more customers for bad MB....
You have strange criteria for calling a mainboard good or bad.  Considering the fact that overclocking means operating a component beyond its native specifications, overclocking results are not really a valid starting point for calling a mainboard good or bad.  I would understand your opinion, if this was a high end mainboard, but the G33M-FI does most certainly not belong into that class.

    I'm dissapointed.
475 MHz FSB Clock Speed with FSB-200- and FSB-266-MHz processors is something lots of people  don't even reach with high end mainbaords on a regular basis.  So, maybe, the problem is not really your budget board, but rather wrong expectations?
    Quote
It's recently updated not like for g33m....
BIOS Updates are usually released in reaction and as a fix to BIOS related problems reported by users or found during lab tests.  As this mainboard's purpose is not really overclocking and most people won't use it for that, nobody has probably ever reported any OC problems that need to be addressed by a BIOS Update.  In that light, your observation may be correct in a strict sense, but does not really make sense when it is meant as a critical remark.
I am moving this topic to the OC section.

Hoping to eliminate my windows 7 installation problem mentioned in https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=141925, I would like to request an AHCI/IDE and SATA controller (are they the same???) mod for MSI EX610 (latest BIOS Version is v.3.09), like the one that had been previously done for EX600:

AHCI/IDE is not an issue in this, Windows7 supports both.
The shutdown must have some other reason.
Vista was working beautifully on this machine. It has to be some driver /BIOS issue. Can however someone send me the modified BIOS, just to make sure. I would be very thankful.
Also, might be I need to preload some drivers for Windows7 to be able to finish smoothly? If so - were I can get the chipset drivers for Win7/Vista?
I still assume that as the original poster disappeared after he got the modified BIOS, his problem was solved with that.
Would be very thankful for any help.

Well, i´m pretty sure that it is the mother board, because, i already changed all what´s possible to change: processor, RAM, hd, power supply, processor.
Din: I don´t know what´s "corecenter". I already upgraded BIOS (to v1.2 that supuestly fix my problem), and put thermal paste (grease? in spanish "pasta disipadora") between CPU cooler and CPU. And i do change the processor (i put a p4 1,8GHz), with other FAN processor (CPU cooler), and the same temperature.
    Danny:Those details you ask me:

The problem: From one day to another, it wasn´t load XP. It resets itself after a few seconds (about 5 secs). On the BIOS PC Health section, i actived the CPU Temperature beep on "too much degrees" (i don´t remember the exact name, but that´s the idea). And that´s how i realize that the temperature is the problem. I think it is how the motherboard inform the temperature, and it is a nominal temperature, not real. If it´s real, i already had a burnt processor.
Anything else that can help to find a solution for me?
    Very thanks.
    Claudio
