  • Help, need drivers and EC update for MSI GT 740 / 1727 Gaming notebook.

I've searched high and low and have not been able to find drivers for the gt 740 / 1727 laptop.  I needed to rebuild and no longer have my driver disk.  I'm installing windows 7 x64. I was able to find and update the bios on the MSI site, but no EC update( mines from 2009)
I have not been able to install the Invidia gts 250m drivers as well despite trying multiple versions from the nvidia site.

--Quick Guide for flashing BIOS, provided by MSI--
    1. Create a MS-DOS boot diskette, then copy the the .exe and the bios file to the floppy disk. Both of these files can be found in the package you downloaded.
    2. Press "Delete" and go to BIOS setup while computer bootup.
Check BIOS advanced features and see if BIOS flash write control is enabled
(This option must be enabled. If you can not find this setting, it means the BIOS can be
    flashed.)
    3. Boot from MS-DOS boot diskette and get a:\> prompt.
    4. Type "", then press ENTER
    5. The flash program will then ask "Do you want to save BIOS?", please press "N" for no. The when you see Press 'Y' to program or 'N' to Exit, please press "Y" to continue.
    6. After flashing complete, remove floppy and reset the system .
    7. Press DELETE or F1 when prompted at first reboot after flashing.
    8. Load BIOS optimized defaults, then save settings and exits.
    Drivers & Needed Files:
(Note: All these drivers are for Windows XP.)
Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.40
(Please use at your own risk, these are LEAKED drivers. Password for the .zip file is "ocworkbench rules". Also, you will need to rename the WinXP_2K folder in IDE to either WinXP or Win2K else the installer doesn't pick it up.) Thanks for the link Wonkanoby!
*NEW* Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 5.03
More leaked drivers? Seems some parts of the drivers are older and some are newer.
    1. Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Web Install) -or- Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Full Install)
    2. Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Web Install) -or- Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Full Install)
    3. Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.24
    4. AMD Athlon 64 Processor Driver Version 1.1.0.14
    5. Nvidia Video Card Driver Version 56.72 -or- Omega Nvidia Video Card Driver Version v1.5303
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard Nvidia drivers.)
    5. ATI Video Card Driver Version 4.7 -or- Omega ATI Video Card Driver Version 2.5.51
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard ATI drivers.)
    6. Onboard Sound Driver (Realtek AC'97 Audio Codec) Version A3.61
It is HIGHLY reccomended that you install the drivers/needed files in the order listed above. Please note that there are two #5's because you either install one or the other depending on your video card, do not install both of them.
You will come across a problem here though. You can't install the chipset drivers without installing the Windows service pack and DirectX first, but the Windows service pack and DirectX installs need the internet to download files and you won't have working internet until you install the chipset drivers. Here's what I did to get around this. Instead of downloading the web install versions of Windows service pack and DirectX, download the full version and and put them along with all the other drivers on a backup hard drive or burn them to a CD, this way you will have all the drivers you need when it's time to install them and none of them will require the internet to download files.
Another note when installing drivers. Apparently the Nvidia chipset drivers also come with drivers for the onboard sound, but people seem to agree that the Realtek onboard sound drivers are better. When you are installing the Nvidia chipset drivers, just be sure to uncheck the box for sound drivers when it asks you which drivers you would like to install. Now you can safely install the Realtek drivers without any chance of conflicting sound drivers. Thanks for the tip Wonkanoby!

The installer still reccomends to install it beforehand for full USB 2.0 functionality... I would have put what you said in there but I wanted to keep it as simple as possible.
oh.  IIRC the installer just says USB 2.0 will be fully functional after SP1 is installed.  So after you install SP1 you go into device manager and u click update driver and it will auto search and update the driver.
Simplicity-wise, i guess its pretty much equal.  It might take less preparation to just copy DX9 full onto a CD and install that first, then nforce driver, then right away you have yoru internet connection.
but i dunno.. i guess i will try it your way this time when my RMA"d board comes.
i will be fomratting and doing a fresh install later on today and will let you know if i come across any problems

  • Drivers for MSI Radeon R7 260 1GB

I just bought this the MSI Radeon R7 260 1GB graphics card.
    1. I tried to install drivers from the MSI CD, but nothing happened. So I checked the contents of the CD, only drivers for Win 7 and 8 are supplied! (what happened to VISTA and XP users??)
    2. I tried to get drivers / catalyst controller from the MSI web site, but there are no drivers. (The only thing on offer is a firmware update utility)
    3. I then tried to get drivers from AMD web site, they had drivers for XP 32bit. Whilst this installed the Catalyst Controller, on reboot, it only show a black screen. I had to do a shutdown (via power button). I had to reboot in 'last known known good setting', but then there was a message about no AMD drivers installed. I can't open up Catalyst Controller.  I am only getting basic generic drivers and the window display is terrible.
    4. I then went back to MSI web site,  I tried to install Radeon R7 260X drivers / apps. But that did not work either.
(My previous card was a XFX Radeon R7 240).
Can MSI tell me how to fix this? Or is there no support for Windows XP? Should I return the graphics card?

hello there, have you returned the card yet? if you still need help, would you please provide which model of R7 260 you are using?

  • MSI GAMING 970: Network drivers not found

    Good day,
I have encountered an issue, made more confusing as i was playing a MMO when it occurred. MSI GAMING 970
    Network drivers are missing:
"Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver"
so I try to reinstall them. then I get the error message :
"The realtek network controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug The Cable"
The case has not been opened, the computer was on and running a game at the time of the fault.
    Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I did give all relevant information as the issue is with the integrated network interface.
Device manager shows nothing, drivers won't re-install because it can't see the device. Drivers are from CD. I can get (very) limited access to the internet with a wireless card but it's intermittently at best.
    Read the post.
What CPU? What power supply? What memory?
Without proper information we are going to spend many posts trying to figure out what the problem is. Instead of arguing it, just provide the information from the >>Posting Guide<< and we can more easily and better diagnose the problem.

  • [Radeon] MSI ATI Based Video Drivers???

I have MSI RX9800 Pro-TD128 Video Card and I haven't found any new MSI driver for this video card since 2004 year  Why is that - will MSI make any new drivers for the good old RADEON 9xxx series card or not? I see that they have made new drivers but for the X8XX series and not one driver for the older models    why is that??? And one other question - can I use a newer driver for X850PE for my video card (I think - that I can't use it but maybe I'm wrong)?

    Yes that's hard to follow
Quote from: bassmadrigal on 18-July-05, 13:10:22
Plus it doesn't help that ATI releases monthly driver updates (not sure if NVidia does). Makes it hard for MSI to keep up!
And it's crazy too    monthly waiting for a new driver lol
Nvidia at least wait two months or something else.
And yes Glenn thanks for the clarification, MSI and other manufactures have another goals instead of producing drivers constantly.
    kind regards.

  • MSI GT70 2OD Nvidia Drivers

Is there a reason why MSI GT70 2OD owners are unable to upgrade to the latest Nvidia Drivers for their 780M?
Other brands with the 780M seem to be able to upgrade (Alienware, Clevo etc), but the drivers won't work with the MSI Laptop.
Will we only be able to get drivers from MSI for this laptop, or in the future will we be able to install drivers from Nvidia?

Quote from: Svet on 04-July-13, 18:49:08
nvidia should add support for MSI's as well with next updates.
Svet is 100% accurate with this.
When the GT70's originally came out with the GTX6XX cards in them, they didn't have support from NVidia for a few driver releases. I expect that within the next few driver releases, support will be added.
Most likely, it should be possible to make the new drivers work if you did some INF editing though.....

  • What is Best MSI Drivers or Nvidia Drivers?

I've always used the drivers from Nvidia's website for my Nvidia graphics cards.
A couple weeks ago I got two MSI N460GTX Hawk GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI cards to replace my GeForce 8800 GTX's.
The 8800 GTX cards actually had Nvidia labels on them.  They were not re-branded by anyone.  So, I always went to the Nvidia website for driver updates.
I see on the MSI website, that they provide a driver for my MSI GeForce GTX 460.
My question is, what drivers are better to use, MSI's or Nvidia's?

Quote from: Bas on 10-October-10, 23:44:19
MSI drivers can have added stuff, but the basic driver is the same.
What added stuff might there be?
Is there something somewhere I can read about this added stuff and if it's been added to the drivers for my cards on the MSI website?
I might want the stuff, if i knew what it was.  Then again, I might not.

  • MSI 648 MAX-F Drivers

I just reinstalled my comp and found out that in a fit of cleaning madness I've thrown out the motherboard driver cd's... I just need the onboard network drivers so I can run the liveupdate, but I can't seem to find them. I've looked on both the MSi and the SiS web pages (SiS648) so I must be missing something. The only remotly usefull driver I've found is the drivers found here:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=470&kind=1
But when I try to run them they tell me that it's for a IDE LAN card, and therefore they aren't of any use to me :(
So I could use a bit of help, really would like to get my comp back up and running

That's the only driver for your mobo's onboard LAN, do you have any additional PCI LAN card in the system?

If you want SSE3 support and you do not overclock, Bios 1.4 is the only one officially available (1.41beta is not official).
Try to upgrade to 1.4 and see it for yourself, do the upgrade with floppy in DOS so that you can save your old Bios.
I would rather wait till mid June when a less troublesome new bios is suppose to be availabe for NEO4 MBs.
