Msi drivers

this may help alot of you who install msi drivers for msi graphics cards..
once you have installed these drivers you get extra tabs which allow you use DOT if your card is 5200 upwards also it allows you to change the 2D AND 3D MHZ of the card ..HOWEVER if you try to uninstall these drivers you will still have the 2 msi tabs and the only way to completly eradicate these tabs is to wipe your drive and re-install your os and install NVIDIA DRIVERS.. the problem is that msi drivers leave behind a DLL which is damned elusive..now its obvious that someone out there in msi land knows about this issue and has removed the dll safley(not the 2 tabs in question do any harm) and really should divulge the way to do it to us in general

(yes, I've read that string...)  I'm sure I'll figure it out...no worries.
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and running driver cleaner 3 in safe mode?
or you can go into the windows services menu and "disable all non-MS services upon startup" that way nothing non-XP will be running in the background to disrupt your install/uninstall.
Ok that's about as good an explanation as it gets, it's really pretty simple
The most overlooked step in the procedure is often going to the Control Panel and removing the drivers from there via the "Add Remove Software" applet.

  • Alternative to MSI drivers with overclock settings too! (UPDATED)

    Hello all,
Well, this has been posted a lot and I just wanted it here plain as day so we don't have to keep posting with this same answer.
Many times, due to poor configuration. or any number of reasons the MSI drivers overclocking can be a bit on the buggy side, Coolbits is one of the best basic alternatives, and what you should be using anyway for overclocking and setting your card's options, however, in some cases the MSI drivers may be the only thing that works for your sytem, so this may not be for you, the only way to tell is to try it and see.
Of course there are other utilities like Riva Tuner and nVtweak, that can take settings to another level of tweakdom, but for simplicity purposes Coolbits is the basics.
    Driver Information
Download the latest Drivers from the nVidia Website. Again, you may have to search the internet for a previous version that works better for your configuration. you can go to http://driverheaven.net where they have a whole archive full of previous versions.
Also, you can go directly to nVidia's FTP site and get all the past versions here ftp://download1.nvidia.com/windows
While you are at Driverheaven, download and install the utility called Driver Cleaner, or go directly to the site dedicated to the utility http://www.drivercleaner.net
Read and follow the instructions that come with this utility PLEASE.
QI have MSI drivers installed but the Tabs are still present in Display Properties, how do I remove them?
A MSI's clock tabs are controlled by msicpl.dll and will not removed, you will manually have to eradicate the file yourself. It should be in the windows directory but if you cannot find it just do a search.
Keep in mind that XP's System Restore can also complicate things, while I won't recommend disabling it, it's something to think about.

With the intoduction of MSI's DOT Overclocking DOT Explained utility, some of the guesswork is taken out of the art of overclocking your card, however, don't assume that it is safe. Overclocking in ANY case can damage hardware if not done properly. One must take proper measures in cooling, and become educated in the dynamics of overclocking in order to get the best results. Just remember that heat shortens the life of any component, overclocking simply accelerates it. Liken it to smoking, one will most likely have a shorter lifespan, or have health problems. Some may live a normal lifespan, but the former is usually the case.

Now finally to enable the simple bare bones overclocking abilities of the drivers using Coolbits...
Download the attached file and extract the .reg file to your desired location. Then, just doubleclick on the .reg file, this will enable the extra options including the Core and RAM settings for your card.

  • MSI Drivers and Utilities DVD won't work

Hello, I've just purchased the parts to construct an entirely new computer, and I've chosen MSI Z77A-G41 motherboard.  I put everything together, and I loaded Win XP on, and my plan is to upgrade to Win 8 during their special offer.  I needed to go into Setup and change the SATA mode from AHCI to IDE, so that I could install XP. Once I had XP up and running, I inserted the MSI Drivers and Utilities DVD to load all of the drivers.  However, when I put the disc in, it auto-runs, the driver/utility screen is shown 'blacked out' and I immediately receive a Windows error message: "DVD Setup Application" error.  I went in through Windows Explorer to the programs on the DVD, and found DVD setup. By trying to run this from within Explorer, it takes me to the same error as when I auto-run.
The only thing I can think of is that I need to change something else in Setup, to run Win XP because it's so old?  I'm pretty sure that there's nothing wrong with the new DVD burner, because I've used it to install XP, and also to extract and install Service Pack 2 and 3 (which I downloaded on another computer and transferred on a CD).  If I knew exactly what needed to be installed from the MSI DVD, I could try doing it from within Windows Explorer.  But, I'd still like to figure out what the Setup Application error message is telling me.
Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated.
    Thanks!

A further note before I head off to bed.  I was able to install Win XP service packs 2 and 3 using my new burner, and I've activated with Microsoft and downloaded and installed 117 updates. I have now used this same DVD burner that won't recognize or work with the MSI driver/utilities DVD, to install all of the drivers for my video card---that DVD auto-ran just fine.  So, after doing some searches on Google about the "DVD Setup Application" error, not a lot of help but most people say that if another DVD will spin up and load things OK---it must be the fault of the DVD that won't load.  In other words, I don't think that there's a problem with anything in the Setup on the motherboard.
So, if anyone has any further ideas, please let me know.  Otherwise, I'm going to contact MSI tomorrow and see about a replacement DVD. Thanks.

  • MSI drivers installed?

How do I find out if I have any MSI drivers installed on my PC? I remember installing the card and installing Nvidia's drivers but I'm not sure if I installed any of MSI's before that.
Is there any specific files from MSI to search for on my PC? If I do find those files, is it ok to just delete them?
    Thanks,
    TaiBo

If you want to find out what drivers are installed on your PC, you can notice it by looking your video card´s Windows name. If it´s MSI MS-StarForce... instead of nVIDIA Geforce..., then you are using MSI drivers.
Also, if you installed MSI drivers, you should have 2 pages, one for overclocking and the other to check AGP and video card specific related information, but you cannot change anything on this last page.

  • Msi drivers for gtx 280oc (177.42)

hello, what's the difference between msi 177.42 and nvidia 177.41? the reason i ask is these drivers are the only fully stable (including age of conan) drivers i can find. i tried both the latest signed drivers which seem to work better on some games (marginal frame rate increase which isnt needed) but don't work on other games at all, or have shocking problems. i havn't tried any of the older drivers from the msi site, or the 177?? from vista update. the nvidia forum and games forums all report similar problems to mine on newer drivers i just wondered what the difference was with the slight number change and non signed msi drivers.
    many thanks.

over @ guru3d there's several newer drivers available some certifyed some betas  , i'm using  180.10 rite now and for me it works great iq is up and so are frame rates

  • VIA Drievrs or MSI Drivers

    Hi ,
if u have ever gone to the VIA ARENA web site, uwill find that teh dirvers listed there are more recent than the MSI Drivers listed with the respective motherboards. I just wonder if one should go for the VIA Drivers or stick with the older MSI Drivers.

Most here go for the VIA drivers, as they are more recent then the MSI ones....
MSI is allway's a bit behind on drivers

  • GF3 Ti200 8851 and XP - unloading MSI Drivers..

Does anyone have instructions for unloading the MSI manufacturer drivers and to replace them with a nvidia reference set of drivers?
I've tried loading the 30.82 detonator drivers and the say they've loaded but still am missing things such as openGL, FSAA, d3d menus.
I suspect that my MSI drivers aren't unloading since under my display properties no matter what I do the MSI clock ans MSI utils tabs still show up.
    Help !

Well it's your time, money and 'puter, but don't expect your troubles to vanish, with a other videocard.
Sb Live is a known troublemaker, so better solve it or you end up with more new hardware then only a videobord (meaning new mobo), look overhere please

earlyer you did not mention 8851, sorry about that, but i think all bioses are the same for Gf3Ti200 what ever type you have.
I've had my trouble with MSI, bad support, drivers and so on, but basically there products  are fine, even better then others, so please don't call it a cheap product in the context of bad performing hardware.

  • Windows 7 installer drivers vs MSI drivers - Extreme slow install

Problem:  When I run the Windows 7 Pro installation CD, every screen take a very long time (from 10 minutes to 2 hours) to proceed to the next prompt.
Tried:  First tired installing with  legacy + UEFI and now reinstalling OS with UEFI  which both produce same results.  In fact, the worst part was reformatting the SSD to support a GPT partition.  This is taking hours.
Considering trying:  Gskill thread and vBios upgrade thread
Solution:  After OS is running, I first apply drivers for on board network card, then install MSI Live Update 6 and update all MSI drivers.
Results:  OS boots normal and normal response times on boots.
Question:  There is a "Load Driver" option during the advance option when installing Windows 7 when you select the partition to install Windows.  Before I try process of elimination, any suggestion on which driver could be the culprit?
After I finish this next install, I should have list of the drivers that MSI Live Update says it updates.  I hoping this is a known issue, and I am just failing to find it on the forum.
    Board: MSI Z97-GD65
    Bios: Click Bios Version 2.2

    Vid: EVGA GTX 780 3GB
    PSU: Corsair CX750M 750W (62A +12V single rail)

    SSD: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 250GB SATA 6Gb/s TLC
    SSD: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 250GB SATA 6Gb/s TLC
    HDD: Western Digital 1TB 7200 WD10EFRX SATA 6.0Gb/s
OS: Win 7 Pro 64bit in UEFI mode
    OC: Not yet

    Root Cause established!
    Well mostly...
    First, I did as suggested.
    1.  I bought a USB 3.0 drive and made a bootable image of the Windows 7 install using UEFI.  While there, I read up on Windows Automated Installation Kit and building a custom WIM to install drivers.  We do this type of thing at my company all the time, but it has always been the responsibility of others.
    2.  After taking all night for the OS to install, I methodically install each driver manually and waiting the dreaded long reboot to see which fixed the issue.  Installing the SATA driver made the Starting Windows work faster, but I noticed I was having all kinds of issues with the Western Digital HDD formatting and I still was not impressed with the boot time.  Following the next suggested solution to start with only the SSD.  THEN!!!! The POST, Bios screen, Starting Windows and login were incredibly fast!!!  I was logged in less than 10 seconds.  Now this has been my expectation all along.
    3.  I tested moving the HDD to other SATA ports, but the problem returned.  I will try another cable, but these were the ones provided by MSI that came with the motherboard.  I will need to purchase one as I used all 4 that came with it.
At this point, the HDD is out of the computer.  I plan to search the WD forums to see if anyone else has had this experience.
Thanks you for those that committed on my post.  As a result, I have my system now booting with UEFI instead of legacy mode.  That in and of itself was worth the effort.
Once I find out more about the HDD issue, I will update the forum.  Hope this helps someone else.
    Thanks,
    AphelionElite

  • MSI Drivers 52.14 & 52.70 WHAT THE.......

What is the differance between the two?
How do they compair to Nvidia 52.16? Besides not having whql support?
Any advantage in  non whql MSI drivers, compared to supported whql Nvidia drivers?
    My video card is MSI Geforce4Ti 4200 128Mb 4x

I prefer not to use MSI's drivers or any manufacturers drivers for that matter.
I go to either  nVidia Drivers or  http://www.driverheaven.net for a wider selection of previous drivers, then there are the alternative drivers that can be found here http://www.omegacorner.com/
The only advantage to the MSI drivers is that there may be modifications to support MSI hardware but all they claim is, that they only add the MSI tabs or DOT ability for overclocking etc. For marketing purposes basically.
The only way to tell is to try them yourself and see what works best for you.
MSI's drivers have been known to cause problems on some users configurations.
You will get comparisons from other users telling the pro's and con's of a certain driver, but one needs to take into account the current health and configuration of the reviewers rig in comparison to yours. So you should look to unbiased professional reviews on the Net rather than what a user on a forum might be telling you. You may be able to come to a fair conclusion when multiple users are claiming the same experience but just remember that even two PC's with matching hardware and configuration can only be a reference point as they can and will behave differently.
If your current drivers are working well and you are not having any problems OR unless a specific game requires a certain driver version, then I suggest just leaving it alone and go play. I have found the 41.07 or 41.09 nVidia driver worked well with the card you are using, it won't get much better than that really. The new versions are concentrating on the new hardware currently available.
If you're a benchmark whore, then that's a completely different story

  • Should I use nVidia or MSI Drivers for my new MSI VGA card?

    Hi,
Im just about to replace my old (non-MSI) Geforce 4600 TI, with a MSI FX 5700, and i'd like to know, should I use the MSI drivers on the MSI CD, or should I just use the latest nVidia driver from the nVidia web site?
    thanks for any help

Yes,but the drivers 6X.XX are optimized to the Geforce 6 series.I don´t think I will gain any increase in perfomance if I use the 61.77 driver, for example, instead of the 56.63.And MSI drivers allow DOT,which is safer way of overclocking

  • What is Best MSI Drivers or Nvidia Drivers?

I've always used the drivers from Nvidia's website for my Nvidia graphics cards.
A couple weeks ago I got two MSI N460GTX Hawk GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI cards to replace my GeForce 8800 GTX's.
The 8800 GTX cards actually had Nvidia labels on them.  They were not re-branded by anyone.  So, I always went to the Nvidia website for driver updates.
I see on the MSI website, that they provide a driver for my MSI GeForce GTX 460.
My question is, what drivers are better to use, MSI's or Nvidia's?

Quote from: Bas on 10-October-10, 23:44:19
MSI drivers can have added stuff, but the basic driver is the same.
What added stuff might there be?
Is there something somewhere I can read about this added stuff and if it's been added to the drivers for my cards on the MSI website?
I might want the stuff, if i knew what it was.  Then again, I might not.

After fresh install of windows xp (no sp, sp1 and sp2), I have no problems with nvidia original drivers, but when I try to install msi drivers, sometimes the screen blink once and the screen doesn´t refresh the information, have to do it minimizing the active window.  This problem only happen´s with 2D (normal usage) and when I click on video files, no problem with DOS programs, when running games (no problem with PSU) or videos.

    Hi,
    1) Use Add/remove to delete your current VGA Driver. (do not reboot at this time)
    2) Delete the C:/nvidia folder
    3) Reboot
    4) Run Driver Cleaner (Download Driver Cleaner 3 from driverheaven.com to remove all traces of your nvidia driver - read instructions)
    5) Delete msicpl.dll (you may need to Search your PC for this entry (This is the MSI tabs)
    6) Empty Recycle Bin
    7) Install latest nvida drivers from nvidia.com
